I was about to go down that rabbit hole of spending hours and hours on testing (had already tested each display port and switched cables, was about to play with drivers... ) But your video saved me... THANK YOU! Everything came up just fine after following your steps.

    Ty for taking the time to post this. Asus VG248QE monitor, GTX 1080 (and also a 1060), same exact issue, and this "fixes" it... at least until the monitor goes to sleep again (which i disabled in Control Panel now that i know better). i had to look further into this, and believe i've "pinned" down the issue. Evidently this is due to the No. 20 DP pin, which delivers +3.3V power. The current DisplayPort standards state that this pin must NOT have a wire connected to it, so it no longer serves a function unless your use case is with old equipment. So what happened to all the cables that were manufactured before the standard was changed? Burned in a fire, right? Ha! They're still for sale, my friends, and you very likely have at least one. Mine came with the damned graphics card. That unexpected voltage confuses the monitor's firmware, and removing the power cord resets the firmware. if your DP cable has the 3.3V power, it WILL bug the monitor's firmware every time Windows attempts to turn off your monitor. Change that setting to NEVER, and/or find a cable that conforms to the most recent VESA DisplayPort standard. Janky damned DP cables are everywhere.

    • @lolfreddy
      @lolfreddy  6 лет назад +2

      Awesome research! So when buying a new DP cable make sure it is a recently manufactured one and that it is also VESA standard certified/compliant! Thanks for that awesome research, Jason!!

      You sound like a legend Jason. Thanks for taking the time to iterrate this for everyone. Crazy that the market is flooded with poorly made cables !

    • @j_ro
      @j_ro 6 лет назад +1

      thing is the offending cables may actually be very well-made, and quality brands... but made prior to the change in VESA standards. you can easily check your cables using a multi-meter set to ohms. the number 20 pin (which should do nothing) is nearest to the slanted corner.

Thank you so much. Same monitor with a 2060 that was built in 2019.

      @@honeyluv3069 A user suggested pin 20 of the DP must not be connected, as its been deprecated. Windows sends a 'shut off the monitor signal' probably because update, user settings, or something stupid idk. This pin confuses the monitors firmware and a full monitor reboot restarts it. You probably could buy a new cable that conforms with the current standard, or disable windows telling your monitor to go to sleep. Let me know if anything fruits.

      to be clear - this is not a Windows issue. This is a power saving 'feature' of the Asus monitor. When it goes into a deep power saving mode, Asus disables their DisplayPort. You could likely encounter the same issue if you connected this Asus monitor to a Mac using DisplayPort.

    Worked for me, thank you! I tried literally every single thing I could find, and had just about gave up hope. One night, about 2 months ago, it was working, and then it went to sleep it just stopped. I had thought maybe it was the cable, and just switched over to HDMI, well with my new GPU I've only got 1 HDMI slot, and needed it for my older Monitor, so I tried looking into why the display port quit working. Thanks for your video! Any explanation why this method works?

    • @stickmaker10111
      @stickmaker10111 4 года назад +1

      I believe it is the monitor's fault. The GPU is powered down completely and windows is fully reset in any attempt I've seen (first instinct is to force shut off your pc via power button and let it turn back on). So somehow the monitor becomes unaware of the presence of the display port. Most likely monitor kernel code that is copied over from monitor to monitor due to chip vendor restrictions on display port. It seems to be happening cross vendor, even though hardware device hardware changes. It could also be windows 10, but I highly doubt it due to full reset cycles being enough. Finally, it could be a hardware fault due to timings and getting stuck in a loop. For future reference, a full restart of your monitor may be all you need. Please update me if this happens to you again and at first try restarting your monitor like you did without the computer turning off, then do it with computer turned off, then do it with the computer PSU turned off.

    Omg, lol, I Seriously spent atleast 4-5 hours trying to find out why my displayport wouldn't work.
    I read stuff on forums, i watched youtube videos, i changed the settings on my monitor, i change the settings on the nvidia software, i downloaded the latest update on nvidia, i restarted my computer and monitor many times, i read the manual for the graphic card, i read the manual for the monitor.
    And the displayport still wouldn't work and i started to get really annoyed.
    It turned out that the fault was that i hadn't pushed the displayport connector all the way into the computer.
    The monitor didn't get the signals because i had connected the cable too loosely.
    Now it works. =)
