Everybody has a soundtrack to their life. A song that rockets you to a certain time or place. I was buying cookies from a merchant at our local scarecrow festival yesterday. A musician nearby start singing an acoustic version of this song and I was suddenly in high school again. I had just bought this CD and put it into my portable CD player connected to my car radio by a cassette adapter. Then, I headed off to deliver flowers for my mom's flower shop. This song hit like a ton of bricks the moment it came on. It seemed like everyone around me was so put-together. They were doing well in school, knew their college direction, knew what they wanted to do when they grew up. I didn't have any of that figured out. I repeated the song over and over again as the addresses for my deliveries grew harder to read. I can still picture the neighborhood that I was driving around in. Now, both of my parents are gone. I still feel lost. I wish I could go back to that time and enjoy those moments that are gone forever.

I want to get away from here and start over. Away from everything I've ever known and my problems. It hurts, it really does. I'm trying to hold on but it's hard. Allow me to say this - PAIN is what the world does to you - SUFFERING is what you do to yourself - PAIN in life is inevitable but SUFFERING is not - do NOT focus on how hard life is but learn to embrace the lessons that life offers - a happy person is not someone in a certain set of circumstances but rather a person with a certain set of attitudes - now tomorrow when you wake up go out & kick life's ass.
When this song came out, I was young, happy, strong - I had a vibrant family, a huge social life, and a love life that just wouldn't quit. For me, at the time, the song had no meaning. It went by almost unnoticed, especially since I'm more of a metal fan. I never would've thought that some 30-odd years later - I would be totally alone with no one left but my mother. My friends are gone. I've been single now for 21 years. There are few things worse than being alone and disabled, a life where your future will comprise of nothing but pain, poverty, and loneliness. A phone that never rings. A doorbell that never dings. Knowing that you will die alone and 4 generations of family photos will end up in the trash. The only people left to talk to are those that will listen to you only if you pay them - in a country that considers disabled people "useless eaters." In a country whose health care system is already broken beyond repair, but whose mental health care is practically non-existent because of that idiot "machismo" - there's no depression, you just have a touch of the blues! This song has far more meaning to me toward the end of my life than it ever did at the beginning
And prayers ... heh. Everyone wants to send prayers. Prayers do nothing. Prayers assume the existence of some higher power to hear them. I figure that if there is a higher power (I don't believe in nonsense gods like Yahweh) ... but if there is some kind of higher power, it either wants me miserable, can't do anything to change it, or doesn't care. So I have three choices - a malicious and sadistic higher power, an incompetent and powerless higher power, or an apathetic and sociopathic higher power. Well... no thanks. Besides, it's a lot easier to accept one's sorrows knowing there isn't an intelligence behind their existence, to know some sicko god isn't destroying your life for the sheer glee of it, to know that there is no one to blame, no one to shake my fist at, no one to beg and plead with always asking, "Why? Why? What did I do?" Things don't always happen for a "reason" ... however everything has a cause. Those are two very different things ... because I don't believe everything happens for a reason, but things can just happen.
I read all you wrote. You're crying out loud. I hear you. You're not here by accident. I don't have the same story as you but I sure have felt lonely a lot in my life. Like no one understood or could relate. I know you said you don't believe in nonsense gods like Yahweh. I've certainly had my struggles with believing. But I'm slowly learning of Jesus and His love. It's not easy, it is a journey, and I still have some heartbreaking, difficult things to navigate. But there is hope. And this isn't all there is. I encourage you to seek out some strong, mature Christians to love you. They're out there. I hope this helps you in some way.

There are thousands if not millions of disinfranchised folk that know your thoughts and feel lost in the void. Do yourself a favour and seek out help and connections. you need meaning in your life and something to ignite a passion weather that's something internal or external. I believe in you even if you don't believe in yourself. I love you and I know in a few steps you can change your perspective. Forget about everyone and their perceptions about you and take the reigns. Nothing in life is easy whilst it strapped in your maddening thoughts. Release yourself and positive things will enlighten you. like I said seek out a group who feel like you and between yous you can work out a path forward. You don't have to change the world you just have to change your mindset and start living. When you do which you will others will benefit in turn helping you cathartically. I believe in you. Open that lock in your mind and fight my friend. You are a lot stronger than you think because if you weren't you'd not have stuck around. Two from cancer, two from dementia, one from liver cirrhosis, one being shoot by police and one just when plum crazy from all he lost in so short a time. This song haunted me for years. It was playing on the radio when I had to help my mum leave my father and family home after an incident that changed my childhood forever. I finally played it today and didn't cry like used to be the case. It certainly was a magnum opus of its time. I still remember the plea at the end of the Official Video when the lead singer implores the public to reach out if they've seen or know those young people who were still listed as Missing. I remember that the band copped flack at the time for allegedly not receiving the permission of the lost young people's relatives to use their pictures, or something of the like. What a beautiful and yet melancholic and even tragic anthem from the early 1990s. Peace and love to all.

My cousin was 16 when we lost her to human trafficking. 3 years later my brother was stationed in Iraq when he saw her with her pimp. He didn't hesatate to grab her. Her pimp pulled a gun and shot my brother. My brother shot and killed him. My cousin told the officials where the other girls were and helped 23 lady's. They all got home. We are very lucky to have both of them home and safe.
I was in a runnawy situation when i graduated high school. I had 3 options 1. go to college, 2. 2 runaway. 3. take my life. So glad i chose number 1. Now i'm 42 and and living abroad in Japan. Embace life. My grand father was a runnaway from a farm in illiois. He went west. like the Village People. And landed in California. where he challenged UC Bezerkly. they said "study this that and that. and take a test in one year. " seeing how it was the 1930's at the time. he locked himself in a closet under the stairs and hit the books like Bat out of hell. A year later, he took the test and got in to UC Berkeley, Majored in Agruculture, and developed a way to breed dwarfis, out of cows. I'm sure that makes MCDs happy, and Carls Jr and Burger King happy pappies . Some times there are happy endings. you are correct. you do not have to be on drugs to runaway. I'm sure my grandfather wasn't. and I have never touched street drugs. just meds my doctor prescribed me which had nasty side effects, Peace.

I lost my father to brain cancer on sept 24th at the age of 58. It has been a real struggle. I was a deputy sheriff but i put that on the back burner to come back up north to help take care of him b4 he passed. I've been dealing with increasing depression over several years, and only very recently did it get so bad that I scraped all the motivation I could to get help... and it has gotten better. Some days are so good, I forget what that dark time felt like and its enough to bring me to tears just out of relief.
Cue this song coming on the radio yesterday. I'm a Gen-X, I've heard the song a million times... but not really, as it turns out. It spoke to me and I thought, 'Yes! That's it exactly!' After looking at the lyrics by themselves, then learning that he wrote it about his own depression... well, it all clicked.

Two from cancer, two from dementia, one from liver cirrhosis, one being shoot by police and one just when plum crazy from all he lost in so short a time. This song haunted me for years. It was playing on the radio when I had to help my mum leave my father and family home after an incident that changed my childhood forever. I finally played it today and didn't cry like used to be the case. It certainly was a magnum opus of its time. I still remember the plea at the end of the Official Video when the lead singer implores the public to reach out if they've seen or know those young people who were still listed as Missing. I remember that the band copped flack at the time for allegedly not receiving the permission of the lost young people's relatives to use their pictures, or something of the like.
What a beautiful and yet melancholic and even tragic anthem from the early 1990s.

My cousin was 16 when we lost her to human trafficking. 3 years later my brother was stationed in Iraq when he saw her with her pimp. He didn't hesatate to grab her. Her pimp pulled a gun and shot my brother. My brother shot and killed him. My cousin told the officials where the other girls were and helped 23 lady's. They all got home. We are very lucky to have both of them home and safe.

I was in a runnawy situation when i graduated high school. I had 3 options 1. go to college, 2. 2 runaway. 3. take my life. So glad i chose number 1. Now i'm 42 and and living abroad in Japan. Embace life. My grand father was a runnaway from a farm in illiois. He went west. like the Village People. And landed in California. where he challenged UC Bezerkly. they said "study this that and that. and take a test in one year. " seeing how it was the 1930's at the time. he locked himself in a closet under the stairs and hit the books like Bat out of hell. A year later, he took the test and got in to UC Berkeley, Majored in Agruculture, and developed a way to breed dwarfis, out of cows. I'm sure that makes MCDs happy, and Carls Jr and Burger King happy pappies . Some times there are happy endings. you are correct. you do not have to be on drugs to runaway. I'm sure my grandfather wasn't. and I have never touched street drugs. just meds my doctor prescribed me which had nasty side effects, Peace.

I lost my father to brain cancer on sept 24th at the age of 58. It has been a real struggle. I was a deputy sheriff but i put that on the back burner to come back up north to help take care of him b4 he passed. My mother stopped me at the bank were i was going to withdraw my only $500.oo and leave , we accidentally met at the bank ! She convinced me to stay and go somewhere else ! Let me tell you something there are no such things as friends or true Christians , people sure like to point there hipocritical finger at you , and they can be worse sinners then you .
