After a Year of Sunday Lawn Care - Was it worth it?

  • After using Sunday for a year, we're actually getting somewhere with the lawn! The start of the growing season showed us how prepared the lawn was to get underway. There were no detectable bare patches that usually come out of an icy cold winter. I swapped out a new play-set which left a few bare spots that filled right in with Fescue Rescue seeds. We were among the first households that needed to mow the lawn, with grass nearly 6" long in some areas. The clovers and dandelion were much reduced this year thanks to the grass growing as aggressively as the weeds.
    This year, I was able to perform the soil test correctly and see how the results affected my lawn care plan. This gave me a truly customized lawn plan that helps correct the deficiencies in the soil.
    I also tried out Sunday's selection of plants and garden tools while I was at it. So far it seems as though they are expanding their offerings and trying to cover more of your lawn needs every year. The shipping does get a little confusing as they split the plant order into individual shipments which then makes it a little hard to track afterward. But after ordering nearly 21 plants, only one showed up in desperate need of sun and water. On the plus side, it survived and blooming just fine now!

    Thank you so much for this informative video!! I just discovered Sunday lawn/garden products. I just picked up the kickstart today. My lawn is very good and many neighbors say what do you use. But, this product seems to be simple to follow and can be tailored to what is best for your yard. I had no idea they recommend plants for your specific area. Thank you again. Anything that can help me as a single female senior who enjoys working in my yard, but at this point I need to work smarter and not harder.

    Hey Jon, thanks for the updated video! I was curious to know how your lawn turned out since you’ve been a year into it. I started my subscription in June and received the boxes late so I waited until A few weeks ago to start the process. I’ve tilled my yard and put the seed down. Almost 3 weeks into it and have seen improvement already especially in my front yard with two bags of seed and first nutrition pouch (need to apply 6 more pouches before winter). Excited to see my lawn in spring and might have to put more seed down in spring and hopefully the new seed will outgrow the weeds because I’m still dealing with extra weed and the Dandelion weed killer concentrate didn’t do much for me. I can definitely share some before and after pictures if you’re interested. I’ll most likely continue with my subscription next year depending how my lawn looks next spring.

      We got roasted this summer, I’d say 1/2 my lawn is brown with the green bits in areas that get some shade throughout the day. Maybe 2” of rain in the past 2 months. I’m terrible at keeping up with watering so that’s most of the problem. The weeds have mostly all keeled over and what’s left is dry slightly green grass. I’m really wondering if it will come back now that we’re under the constant 90F weather these days. Last year, the comeback was phenomenal, but it wasn’t nearly as burnt as this year. My neighbors are just as brown. On a windy day, we get a heck of a lot of dust in the air. I’m in Eastern PA. We’ll see as September rolls in!

    Hi Jon, I've just switched to the Sunday products as I'm 66 years old and the other products are too heavy for me to carry around. Praying it works for me. I still may use some yardmastery products, but only as a supplement.

    • @Jon_Chan
      @Jon_Chan  Год назад +1

      I hear yardmastery is very effective. Our main draw to Sunday was due to its lesser toxicity around pets and children. And as you mentioned it is much easier to apply. When I put on my first pouch I was toying with the idea that you should be able to inject it into an irrigation system 😅 I know I know I’m getting too lazy…I’ll get back to work.

    Great video! After two years of thinking and talking about getting this I just received my first shipment. I’m excited for my results. My question to you is, what do you mean by doing your soil test correctly? TIA

    • @Jon_Chan
      @Jon_Chan  Год назад +1

      Haha thanks sorry it wasn’t well explained here unless you’ve seen the first two videos. I did not realize the shipment came with a little baggie that has a barcode and your email printed on the bag. Instead I used an unmarked bag that I put inside the shipping box. Apparently they won’t try to correlate the return name and address to your account so my soil sample probably got tossed out. I found the little marked baggie weeks later in the folds of one of the booklets I didn’t page through all the way. So for round two (this year) I knew to look for a little baggie that had my email address and a little barcode printed on it. I then filled that with 3 samples of soil from different sections of the lawn and sent that in. That’s how I was able to get my results this year!

    The grass under the trampoline grew more as the grass naturally struggles to survive it shoots up grass blades to capture more sun. The weeds that prefer sun just die or don't grow in as the soil temp remains lower in the shade. The grass will eventually die as it becomes exhausted trying to survive in the shade. *2 decades professional lawn care experience

    Hi Jon. We just moved into our house in October, so we have nonidea how green the grass gets in the summer. The flippers added a new septic tank and added a bunch of fresh grass seed to the backyard. Now that the grass has started to grow, it is very patchy. Would you suggest I throw down a bunch of topsoil and new grass seed to the locations, or should I just give Sunday a shot and see what happens?

    • @Jon_Chan
      @Jon_Chan  Год назад +1

      I found soil, seed and water to be better for patches. I lightly rake the seed into the soil too. First time I just tossed seeds on top and hardly any actually grew. Raking it in really helped a ton and covered the patch well. For the seeds I watered almost every day to get them going and once they were established, Sunday pouches really helped them outcompete the weeds.

    • @matthewwilliams9590
      @matthewwilliams9590 Год назад

      @Jon Chan Thank you for that advice. Yesterday, I gave our grass the first mowing of the year. I now see how much work I have to do to make this look good. I came across lots of patches and discovered how bumpy and unlevel our lawn is. There were leaves from fall, small branches, and stone from our driveway. This was also the first time mowing it since we bought the house. Not to mention that there are no flowers anywhere.

    how did the dandelion doom treat the weeds/crabgrass/clover you had? Did your seed last year get applied in the Summer? Did the bare spots grow for you? Not sure why the seed doesnt come in the winter / fall shipment?

    • @Jon_Chan
      @Jon_Chan  Год назад

      Dandelion doom mostly only treated the dandelions. I learned clovers are actually good to have around so I’ve left them be. They are nice when we get a dry spell as they keep the grass from drying out. I put seed down in spring and raked it into the bare spots. Spots are all filled in now

    We used this product for the 2022 season and gave it a good faith effort. I liked the fact that it was applied with water, but found the whole process of us applying the product with the hose to be cumbersome on our property and not worth it for the outcome.
    I was trying to decide what we should do for this season and we got home from spring break and a SUNDAY box was at our house. I didn't realize we signed up for AUTO RENEW for this product. I detest auto renew products. It always feels like you are getting "taken". There was never an email stating, "Hi, it's time for us to send you your supplies for 2023 season. You have until xyz date to cancel or we are shipping to you." Something like that kinds of heads up communication would go a long way in customer perception of your company, Sunday.
    I called today and was told they would not take the product back for a return and they could not give me my money back except for the product that hasn't shipped yet. I asked if the Sunday Rep would please check to see if there was a way to make it a full refund. I was told the rep would ask and call me back in 30 minutes. I am still waiting for the call back hours later.
    WHETHER you LIKE this product or company or not BEWARE of the AUTO RENEW. It's like the drive thru...you know what they say about that.
