- They said a woman couldn’t run a barbecue joint…but that was before they tried Helen Turner’s sandwiches. Turner has owned and operated Helen’s Bar-B-Que in Brownsville, Tennesee by herself since 1996, and amassed a loyal following due to her smoky cooking and secret sauce recipe. This woman is amazing. How you run an entire restaurant, both front and back of the house by yourself seems impossible, but she does it. Pretty incredible, and the food looks top notch.
Tristan Smith not just a restaurant but a smoked bbq restaurant! It’s one thing to wake up and just throw some chicken breast onto a pan. It’s another to wake up at 2 in the morning to start making food. Mad respect!
My question is why. Sure you have to pay them, but how much less stress on you and maybe even put out twice the amount food.

Although I live in England (London to be more precise), you'll be surprised at just how hard it is to find decent 'que. So if I am able to scrape some money together, and if someone is able to pick me up at the airport, would love to visit places like Mr. Rodney, and Mrs. Helen, for gas money ...

Helen needs some exhaust fans to help with all that smoke in the pit back there. All that smoke can't be good for her health and we NEED her to LIVE
I was thinking the same. They have louvered power vents or even exhaust fans. I didn't see anything. I would love to visit and support her someday. Video was rec. so I'm late seeing this
I agree so I can live next to her shop
The smoke makes her stronger
The fans might mess with the temperature on the smoker. Too much air flow causes the coals from the wood to burn hotter. She'd have to find a way to adjust her cooking technique to offset the fans. I know it sounds right to bring in those fans but that might not be a good idea as it could mess with her overall flavor that the customers come to love.
Go vegan.

Being a Texas fella..I'm primarily about brisket and an offset. However -- much respect to this lady for what she achieves everyday. I'd definitely buy from her if I was in the area. (I can't knock anyone who uses real wood logs!)

twb7691 In Tampa, about $8-$10. depending on where you go... there is a small small BBQ place in the hood and they are the best but it's in a very small shack. they sell them at $7.

I've seen like 4 videos about Helen and her amazing bbq joint. What an amazing work ethic, great love of her community, and the food looks amazing. This might be a weird thing to say but I feel like giving this great lady a hug. I live in Colorado and I'm thinking about taking a roadtrip out east solely to eat. I want her to have a great long life so I worry about the insane smokyness of her cooking area, I want her to be healthy so she really needs to add a few more fans to vent that building out.

I’m from and live in Pittsburgh so good barbecue is hard to come by, anytime I travel south 1st thing I look for is a good BBQ joint. The best is the ones that have picnic tables to eat at. Just absolutely amazing...
I need to stop by one day and buy some of her fine barbeque. When food is cooked with such love and dedication it has to be amazing.
Her burger has so much meat! Here in Sydney I only get about a 1/4 of that size and it's $8! but still good. You guys over in the US are so lucky!
