Don Freeman here. played keyboards on their last album “ The Longest Road”. The song was called “ If And Any Day” with Dash on lead and Mike Sembello ( writer ) on guitar & backing vocals, Nathan Watts on bass and Raymond Pounds on drums Don Freeman keyboards. Was great working with Jimmy, Dash, Louie Shelton producing, Joe Bogan engineer extraordinaire. Recorded at Dawnbreaker Studios San Fernando CA
So nice to see you here. This music was my childhood. I played my Seals and Crofts vinyls over and over. Even as a child, I loved how their music made me feel.
Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for all of the beautiful music. I saw them in Dothan, AL in 1976. Was in the hospital and received permission from my doctor to go to the concert to return to the hospital as soon as the concert ended. Almost had to sign the promise in blood. I loved this group and the beautiful music and sang the entire time! Am so blessed that I was able to attend one of their concert! ❤️❤️❤️
I have always loved their music. It gives me peace, we don't hear music like this anymore. I have many favorite songs they sang. But Hummingbird is one of the favorites of all. Whenever I see a Hummingbird, that song pops right into my mind. And I start to hum it! They were a great team, great harmonies together. Sorry to hear Seals is gone, but I'm sure he is at peace. Bless Crofts, I hope he's still singing his songs.
Seals and Crofts were a dazzling duo! My favourite song of theirs is “Summer Breeze” (1972). Unfortunately, I never saw them in concert. Finally, rest in peace, Mr. Seals. 🙏
I still love their music to this day! Play their music on a daily basis. I saw them in my hometown in 1975 or 1976. I was in the hospital and begged my doctor practically on my knees for him to let me leave the hospital just for the concert! Thought I was going to have to sign a promissory certificate in blood to go and would have done it to go! It was at the Dothan Civic Center in Dothan, AL. Can’t believe I got to see them in Dothan and feel so blessed to have been able to see and hear them in person. I was hoarse for a couple of days because I sang the entire concert. It was my very first concert and I will never forget it as long as I live. I’m 64 now and a fan until my last breath. This music is my jam! In person, they sounded just as wonderful as my album sounded!
My dad used to play their records a lot when I was a kid growing up in the late 70s and 80s. I never fully appreciated them till I was quite a bit older, but I never forget hearing Diamond Girl and We May Never Pass this Way Again. I reconnected with their music in the late 2000s. Love their music. 👍🏻🎸
I saw them at the Paramount Theater in Portland Oregon around 1976. My favorite songs are: We May Never Pass This Way Again, Summer Breeze, I'll Play For You, and The King of Nothing. On an early album, they performed a song called Standing On The Mountaintop, which was a fun, upbeat rock song. ✌️😎🎶🎸
Seals and Crofts was the first concert I ever went to. in Corvallis, Oregon. Before they signed with WB, my dad drove them to a couple of gigs in the Willamette valley in Oregon.
Thank you, JIM SEALS for doing your part to help tame mankind with your gift and talent. Your music was part background soundtrack to my once young life. May the "source of your being" bless your legacy and surviving family. In the meantime, I'll keep the music playing
I didn't know it for 4 years, but I lived next door to Dot. When her husband Henry passed away I would check on her time to time, that's when I saw the autographed album and asked her about it. She said that was her twin brother Dash, I thought that was kinda cool, I love the song Diamond Girl. what a sweet lady, I still text her till this day to say hello.
Great video! Their Year of Sunday LP remains my favorite, since my High School days in 1972. Every song is a gem. Saw them perform live at an outdoor concert at Indiana University , Bloomington, in 1973.
I head "Your the love' on a Delta Air Flight ✈️ from Las Vegas back to Dallas Texas..I couldn't find it anywhere...but a guy from KNEWS Zoo Radio got me a copy from the studio...as he knew the guys and get a copy for me.... I like the basic idea of the Baha'i faith --- that the various religions of man are like the fingers on God's hands. I also like the idea of the Hummingbird being holy because it is the only bird that can fly backward. But, beyond that, I'm still agnostic and not really interested in investigating further. If they are (were) rabidly anti-abortion, then good for them but count me out. But I do love many of Seals & Croft's songs ---- especially Hummingbird, and certainly many others like Get Closer and Summer Breeze. These guys were fabulous musicians and had wonderful vocal abilities, not to mention their brilliant songwriting. I really appreciate this video explaining their respective professional journeys, beginning way back in the 1950's. I wish I had seen them live, but the Soundstage video here on RUclips helps to make up for that. They were one of the best things in the '70's music scene.
A hummingbird is holy because it can fly backwards? I never understood when Jim Seals would bring up that bit of trivia before playing the song. When I mentioned it to a friend, they said ,"Yeah, because religion takes mankind backwards".
Is one of the Seals you mentioned the singer/ composer of the marvellous ( country,) song:" everything that glitters isn't gold" ? A ndI also temember a song called:" Ooops" (?)
S&C have been my favorite pop music duo since I was about 16. I've loved many of their songs, e.g. See My Life, Robin, Purple Hand, Today, Irish Linen, Funny Little Man, Boy Down the Road, Nine Houses, Windflowers, Passing Thing, Freaks Fret, Kite Dreams ...
One of my favorite guilty pleasures is the soundtrack to a 1977 coming-of-age movie called "One on One" starring Robby Benson. As I recall, the music was written by Charles Fox and Paul Williams, but performed by Seals and Crofts. The movie hasn't aged well, but the soundtrack is still a favorite. Excellent vocals
often played at my place almost every night = diamond girl and so many others = super cool great musical abilities made them interesting and vocal harmonies sweet as sunshine .
My top four favourites of the mid1970, is seals and crofts, cat steven's peace train, Simon and Garfunkel, and Bob Marley. They where pure they where magic. 🎶🎶🎶👍😇
Part of my heart and memory forever! We may never pass this way again is my senior class song and will be part of me for time and eternity! God speed jim seals ! Love you
Thanks ! I love seals and crofts… Every song on the Diamond Girl album is a gem … And they spent so many different styles from jazz to folk to pop.. I would say that standing on a mountain top is my favorite.
At a concert Dash needed a capo. I fished out mine and threw it up onstage to him! That was fun! East of The Ginger Trees. So many, hard to say which is a favorite.
Saw them in San Antonio when I was 14. July 4th, 1972. Independence Day Concert put on by the radio station KEXL. Only my 2nd concert. I was broke so me, my brother Travis, and Eloy all jumped the fence so we could get in. My friend Eloy saw his cousins there. They needed rolling papers. We needed weed. That worked out well. Freddie King and Navasota played too. Great times.
Some great obscure S&C tunes include the progressive rock (no joke it even begins in 13/8) song Say from the Summer Breeze album, Stars from The longest Road which features Chick Corea on piano and Stanley Clark on bass, It’s Gonna Come Down (On You) from Diamond Girl, Yellow Dirt from Summer Breeze, and the oft sampled for hiphop tracks (most famously by Busta Rhymes in Put Your Hand Where My Eye Can See) Sweet Green Fields from Get Closer.
Dash said they weren't dropped from Warner Bros. but it was Seals and Crofts themselves who decided not to renew their contract after being burnt out from so many years of touring. Knowing that, Warner Bros. put no money into promoting their last album, which was in some ways their best.
"You're the love of my life" is my fav. by the duo. I was born in 54 so kinda grew up with them. I've since have past on there music to the kiddos and grand kiddos,
First concert I ever went to. Fantastic! Of course I was 17 and it was the first concert I ever saw. Started late on account of Minnesota winter weather. Halenbeck Hall, Saint Cloud college campuses. Jim Gordon( storied carrier with a sad ending, possibly most notably co-wrote Layla)on drums and he had to set up his own drums.
Gabriel Go On Home ❤. I wore out this album and rebought it. I only wore out 3 albums in my life of around 1000. I was in 12th grade when they played Hummingbird on Carson. I did see them in concert.
I was introduced to the Baha’i Faith through their song, Hummingbird, when I was 16 yrs old. I later became a Baha’i after a Seals & Crofts concert when I was 19, in ‘76. I wrote this from China, where I live & remain involved in the Baha’i community.
I attended a S&C concert at Carolina Stadium (Columbia, SC) in 1976. I was in my late teens & already a fan, but that concert genuinely changed my life. They sounded even better live than in the studio ( a rarity & tribute to their talent & work ethic). After the concert, they invited anyone interested in learning about the Baha’i Faith across the street to a conference room they’d reserved. I became a Baha’i that evening, & my life was completely transformed.
The Baha'i faith's acceptance of all religions is in direct conflict with Jesus who teaches that He alone is: The way, the truth and the life and nobody comes to the Father but through Him.
Down Home I think was their best album. Jim Seals was able to make 3 sounds at the same time, an amazing thing he learned from his grandfather. It is on one of their albums, and I saw them in 1971 and he did it in person when I saw them in CT,
What does that mean? He could make 3 different sounds at the same time? With his voice? With his mouth? Does it mean he could sing in 3 part harmony by himself somehow? Or he could play guitar, sing and tap his foot? Thanks.
I was stationed over on Oahu in Hawaii, when they appeared at'Crater-Fest....a 2 -day rock concert held inside of Diamond Head Crater next to Honolulu New ear's Eve & Day of 1975/76. I don't remember seeing them, but there was a lot of smoke billowing from the volcano those 2 days. BTO & America headline the 2 days. I had to look up who appeared a few years ago. Herby Hancock, Billy Preston, Melissa Manchester , Sly Stone & Cheech & Chong were there.
They made some awesome music that I have always enjoyed. Harmonies were second to nobody and loved all the acoustic. Never knew that their faith was Bahi.
Thanks so much for this. I often wondered what happened to them. I loved Seals and Crofts, still do. Interesting, I didn't know about the connection with England Dan. 👍
"Soft Rock" was a subgenre of Pop Rock that originated in Southern California in the 1970s with simple, melodic songs. It was something that dominated radio at the time. Who fits into "Soft Rock"? Phil Collins, Eagles, Rod Stewart, America, Carpenters, Neil Diamond etc. Well, it might not even be my favorite style (and maybe yours too), but something of that kind of nice and easy listening music was certainly appreciated. "Seals & Crofts" were ubiquitous at one time. One of the most successful attractions of the so-called "Soft Rock" in the 70's, the duo composed by Jim Seals and Dash Crofts met in 1958 playing together with the singer Dean Beard. But he only decided to go it alone as a duo in 1969. Seals played guitar, sax and violin, while Crofts handled drums, mandolin, keyboards and guitar.
I was in 6th grade in 1972. One of the 1st albums I ever bought was Seals & Crofts with summer breeze. I remember a song called "yellow dirt" was on that album. I thought it was kind of cool! Not bad for a 6th grader in Rocky River Ohio!
I appreciate all this info, esp i had no idea about the relationship with England Dan and John Ford Coley (i remember them and what a catchy great name for a band/duo!). I do need to say that the way the video was read made it a bit hard to follow, i dunno what it was, maybe the meter or that some words got "swallowed up," (or was it too fast?) i had to keep skipping back to see wait, what did he say? But thank you for making this, all these years later i totally learned some new things! I had no idea their connection to the Baha'i faith either.
Seals & Croft used to tour San Antonio, TX several times during the 70s and early 80s. I enjoyed their music and even investigated the Bah'hi religion. It is not really new. I liked their first song which had the lines "See my life as it was yesterday, see my life as it was today . . ." Loved that song
I became aware of them because of their song Unborn Child. I fell in love with the message, and find their music pleasant to listen to, unlike nearly all other rock music. I investigated the Baha'i Faith as a result, and found it quite interesting but I remain a lifelong Christian. A friend and I had the opportunity to locate them in town when they came to perform, and I knew they would be visiting with Baha'i believers afterward. We went to meet with those people, and they were expecting the pair to arrive, but we had to leave before that because it got so late. But I will never forget that, nor the fact that their lyrics are wholesome and their music pleasant. It is a shame they suffered for speaking the truth about abortion. Abortion is harmful not only to unborn children, but to their mothers. We deserve better than abortion. We need and deserve legal protection from abortionists.
Well I guess their weird cult hasn't hurt anybody, and they had some nice tunes as a granola pop act in the 70s. Props to them for getting along with their respective families

Nice tune, but has “Bob Seeger” repetition…
Seals and Crofts were a dazzling duo! My favourite song of theirs is “Summer Breeze” (1972). Unfortunately, I never saw them in concert. Finally, rest in peace, Mr. Seals. 🙏
Summer Breeze is the only song that people know them for.
I like it too, but not as much as Hummingbird or Diamond Girl.
It's one of the greatest duos ever. Their sound is never old. "SUMMER BREEZE" and "DIAMOND GIRL" are two of my all time favorites

Their parents had a sense of humor, lol.
Must have been into Morse Code!
Jimmy Seals died. Thank you for the great music, Jimmy. RIP
Fantastic group.Had hits that last We will never pass this way again, was my favourite.
I hadn’t heard. So sad. RIP
Seals and Croft had many beautiful songs. Humming Bird was my favorite, never get tired of hearing it.
Yes, they did. I love "Hummingbird," too. Dash Crofts made it clear he really prefers it when his last name isn't misspelled "Croft."
Great song.
Had the pleasure of playing percussion for them in AtlanticCity the summer of 77 for one week ,great vocal duo!!!

They were the sounds of Summer when I was young.
Greatly admired "Unborn Child." It's a great pro-life song. It came out when I was expecting the fourth of my six children.
I didn't know it for 4 years, but I lived next door to Dot. When her husband Henry passed away I would check on her time to time, that's when I saw the autographed album and asked her about it. At a family reunion, the first time in 34 years I was with 5 siblings, standing around fire pit singing S&C in 6 part harmonies. ❤️
I'd like to hear that.. 6prt..
For a musical twosome that sounded so highly spiritual, they sure knew how have a lot a soul to build in the songs.
I ❤️ seals & Crofts!! Summer Breeze is my favorite 😍
Thank you for this video. They were one of my favorites in the 70s and 80s, producing some really great music.
Their music is so inspirational with beautiful harmony's I never tire listening to their music, live on Seal's and Croft.
Graduation for me in 76' was to We May Never Pass This Way Again!!! So very appropriate for Graduation days!!!
I graduated in 75 and We May Never Pass This Way was my class graduation song also. Graduated from Fairhaven High School in MA.
I also graduated in 76. This song was sang at my graduation!
Great video! Their Year of Sunday LP remains my favorite, since my High School days in 1972. Every song is a gem. Saw them perform live at an outdoor concert at Indiana University , Bloomington, in 1973.

I remember driving around in my '63 Chevy listening to the brand new Greatest Hits 8 Track in my car over and over!
Still have the '63 Chevy?
@@geneobrien8907 Sadly no... sigh.
Diamond Girl was written for Seal's wife Ruby.
Dude had nice taste in women I say that much. To my surprise she was a very pretty woman of color.

I would have never guessed that Seals was in the orbit of rockabilly superstars like Eddie Cochran and Brenda Lee.
Their catalog has so many different influences. I can’t think of any group that ranges from straight country to progressive rock on single album.
Great duo and they were huge in the 70's
They were the number one group for a while.
Thank you for sharing! Growing up with their music and tried copying them jama with friends! Thanks again

Summer Breeze my favorite!
There is magic in so many of their songs! Try Cause You love, Ridin thumb and year of Sunday
They made some awesome music that I have always enjoyed. Harmonies were second to nobody and loved all the acoustic. Never knew that their faith was Bahi.
RIP Mr. Seals and thank you for the fantastic music.
Thanks so much for this. I often wondered what happened to them. I loved Seals and Crofts, still do. Interesting, I didn't know about the connection with England Dan. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Well done for putting this video of the their
history together
Good guys, great music, and the Baha'i Faith. Perfect.
Absolutely love Hummingbird. The beginning is a bit slow/weird, but after the intro, it is absolutely amazing.
It really is!
Had no idea they had a Glen Campbell connection.
@Wil Font Yeah, the Wrecking Crew!!! What a time.
Loved Seals and Croft ❤. Impossible for me to pick a favorites❣️
I have a humming bird wall quilt!! One day I will pick up an instrument and I'll play for you!!
Love them to this day.
❤❤❤
🎉🎉🎉
Forever, "SEALS & CROFTS!"
First Love Never Dies!
Their Greatest Hits Album...
they struck me as crunchy granola hippies with no identity.
Well done thanks bro!
I saw them in Philadelphia P.A in 1973 at the spectrum, it was a good show considering I was at the time into harder music.
thx for the trip down memory lane
RIP Jimmy Seals
Seals & Croft used to tour San Antonio, TX several times during the 70s and early 80s. I enjoyed their music and even investigated the Bah'hi religion. It is not really new. I liked their first song which had the lines "See my life as it was yesterday, see my life as it was today . . ." Loved that song
my 1st concert in 1976,,i was 11 yrs old
I enjoyed Seals and Crofts back in the day. ☺️
Classic
Two months since the death of Jim Seals and not a word out of Dash Crofts. No statement. Nothing. Strange.
Maybe he was busy grieving.
Occasionally their song "Get Closer" is portrayed as a love song. More accurately it is a "fallen-out-of-love" song. Great song, but rather sad.
Interesting they were of the Bahai faith. Cross lived in my homeland Australia! Didn't know that either.
MY FAVORITE SONG IS ... MY FAIR SHARE... FROM THE MOVIE ONE ON ONE
The only thing weird about it is the name Baha'i. It rhymes with Hawaii, so it's not even that weird.
@@NediSafa It's not weird at all if you speak Farsi. In any case, I said it didn't hurt anyone.
@@classiclife7204 A lot of ex-Baha'is would disagree.
Was I tripping or did The one on The Right looks like Paul McCarthy..
