And another one bites the dust, love your attention to the details, the pedal stop, didn’t know about it.
Great video…
Thanks Gregg!! I’m always glad when the videos help others!!
Popularity contest told me about you content and he was right your videos are motortrend level informative. Keep up the great work
Thanks!!! I appreciate the words!! Uncle Bon is a good man! Wished I lived closer to him!!
Last week I used naval jelly, then used aluminum window screen and about 100$ worth of JB Weld and salvaged some partially not connected flooring. Then I applied the Red Gaurd waterproof membrane and lastly the black bed liner pudding-like stuff application. It worked like a charm. About 200$ in total. I then used half inch thick felt flooring underlayment and then the carpet squares with the rubberized backing. Underneath the car doesn't look so magnificent, but you can spill a drink on the floor and not a drop is exiting the car. I have some old lady-bug floor mats that add a touch of artsy fun to the floor. All this was done on my '69 Yukon Yellow bug. I call her 'CAR' = Same color and year as on the Cover of Abbey Road album. She got tired of the Beatles kicking her to the curb that she decided to move into Bug Garden with the other 7 classics I have scattered throughout the yard as ornamentation.
Dry ice is a fantastic trick for getting the tarboards off! Thanks for the tips👍
Thank you!! Yes dry ice does work great!
Nice job 👍 looks good lucky floors were in good shape. Have a great weekend..
Thanks Eugene!! I feel very lucky! Hopefully the dead end is easy to fix
Great job on the videos and sound! awesome job
Thank you Charles, I appreciate you chiming in!! thanks for being here.
Nice vid...I have more tar board pain in my future. Glad this went pretty smooth for you brother.
Thanks!! Hope you’ve been well! Doing the sound deadener this week!
Pan's look great for being original! thanks for the video looking forward to seeing the next one. O you got paint on the tunnel 😂😂😂😂
Thanks very much Douglas, I truly appreciate it. This coming week I will be doing the sound deadener, and heating it up and molding it.
Dang tunnel got paint on it 😂
Can't believe those original pans are so nice for a car that sat in the junkyard!
Right?!?! I was shocked also!!
"I already used some before, and I'm sloppy...." Yet another reason I really like your channel. Keep up the good work!!
Thanks very much!!!
Nice work, look forward to seeing the sound deadening video. Hopefully I'll be at that stage soon.
Thank you!! That’s this coming weeks video!!
Another EXCELLENT video! your consistency rutting out quality videos amazes me brother!
Thank you so much! I truly appreciate the kind words!!
Opening up the tunnel for access to the clutch cable is actually a smart thing to do for the average VW owner. Anyone who has fiddled with installing the pedal assembly wishes they had a way to grab that cable from the other side of the tunnel. It wouldn't make sense for a show car or a 100% resto, but the rest of us can use it. Nice video, btw.
Thank you Dave!! I must admit it would make it easier, the clutch cable can cause some aggravation!
Good job. Looking very nice. I did have to pause the video so I could watch the paint dry since you didn't show that part. LOL
Oh man!! 😂😂😂😂 Thanks my friend!! I so appreciate you being here!!
nice job. man you got real lucky on the driver side. i used that same sound deadener on night owl. it works great.
Thanks!!! I was quite surprised the tar board lifted right out!! 😁
I wish my tarboards came off that easy…took hours of chipping away at them. 😖. Now to do a partial pan replacement (battery area) some wire wheel action, then paint. The sound deadening will go in later during reassembly. Great Video!
The temperature really changes how hard or easy it is to remove tar board.
There is a sweetspot where they come off easy....I forget if that's cold weather, I think it could be, this dry ice Was a great idea, I used a fire extinguisher, more messy!
Also the metal primer flows on and sticks better when it's heated up.
I was honestly surprised they came right off like they did. Battery area is a common spot. Not a bad fix honestly
@@johncollins5552 I typically warm my paint, but….that time I didn’t. But you’re definitely right!!!
Those floor pans are going to have protection for many years to come. It was in great condition especially for a east coast car. You're the 🤴
Honestly, I’m quite surprised the condition there in living in the rust belt. Always thanks for the kind words brother. I appreciate that. This weeks video will be sound deadening. Should be up in a couple of days.
Another great and helpful video! Thanks!
@@CaptPeon thank you very much. I truly appreciate that.
Cool video…that’s awesome that your pans were solid in good shape
Thank you!! I was quite surprised they were that solid.
You do good work! Almost makes me want to get a rusty old bug that needs restoring. I said “almost” 😁.
Haha! Thank you! Try and get a clean one!! Rust is annoying!!! lol
Great 👍🏻 How to Video 📸 😊 Thanks 😀
Thanks very much Leonard!!
Ohh answered my question my bad 78 super nettle convertable thanks you
I come here to learn but find myself looking forward to your cutaway photos. I don’t know where you find them but it’s hilarious!! Glad you did this because this is my next step that I need to do. Great detail and I’m glad you showed the primer!
Haha! I’m glad you like them. I try to keep things amusing but informative!
Nice work Slade, tar boards are sometimes a pain in the … but luckily for you they came out very easy. I didn’t had that problem with the early oval, because the tar boards came later.
Have seen that with the dry ice and worked very well. Can’t wait until next week.
Thanks my friend!! I’m actually surprised mine came up was easy as they did!!
Good job..
Thank you Randy!!
Looking great Bud. Floor pan is in really good shape. My tunnel is also notched from a previous owner. Thank you for sharing the update on your progress, and tips on money saving. Ive seen people throw floor pans in, then use roof tar to smear over the patches to keep out the weather. Why throw away money if you don’t need too. Budget Builds can be just as nice as a full restoration project, my opinion. Sending the best for you and Heather. Have a great day. Looking forward to next update
Thank you my friend! The super beetle that I did, my last project. It only had some holes of course in the battery tray. So I replace that rear section. I don’t believe in ripping the body off, unless you have to. I have some rot at the backend, That I dread doing. But I guess it could be worse. Lol I hope that you’re having a wonderful day, and the upcoming weekend goes very well for you.
@@SladesVWBeetle Yku will have it looking awesome in the end. One day at a time. Have a great day!!
Great job 👍👍
Thank you Mike!! It’s coming along slowly!’
Excellent achievement really.
Going to try the dry ice method! Been looking for tips for weeks now, thank you
Love your videos. Keep it up man!
Thank you!!
Another great video Slades. I think this is missing on mine as when you pull the floor mat up all you can see is the floor pans. And they have to be replaced as they as rusted thru in some spots.
Definitely watch my next video then. I’ll be doing sound deadener instead of the tar board. Cheap and easy.! It’ll kill the sound down! Make sure to get that rust fixed up my friend
@@SladesVWBeetle Good to know I definitely will. I’m glad I’ve got some more time to work on it. Now if only it wasn’t so cold 🥶 burr lol.
@@blakewaddell451 it truly is cold now. I have to get kerosene for the garage. Although it really doesn’t matter because when I’m filming, I have to turn the heat off. The torpedo heater is too loud. I’m not going to win either way lol
Great video!!! I really enjoy watching and seeing everything you do to Chaos. The paint on the tunnel will protect the tunnel for years to come. :)
Thank you so much my friend. I just got done soundproofing the floors and redoing them. That will be this weeks video. It’s starting to get cold now, so it won’t be as fun to be in the garage. 😁
@@SladesVWBeetle I hope you have some form of heating to help keep the chill off of you while it is cold.
@@rustysuperbeetle3064 I have a torpedo heater, unfortunately I can’t run it while filming. It’s too loud.
Hey brother that is looking very nice. I wish I did not have to replace my heater channel…but I was not as lucky as you… lol… I also have my ORM sound deadening board, and honestly they look good, makes me wonder if I should remove them or not. But yes… I am going to remove them to also paint rust treat the floor and paint them.
Oh man, I’m sorry to hear that. Heater channels are not as fun to do! But take your time and it’ll come out as good as Sunny!!
👍😊
Thank you sir!!
Sometimes they open that up to reweld the clutch tube bracket that comes loose.
👍
✌🏻🍺🍺
Knowing what you do now, would you still rustoleum or would you rust bullet? Really appreciate all your videos, you are a great help! (I'm starting on a '74 SB.)
Great vid! You present a great level of detail for the diyer. Could i ask what gloves you use and where you got them? They seem pretty durable. Thanks!
Thank you!! I really enjoy doing films and helping others. I’ll look at the name when I get back in the garage and post them here for you! I can’t remember, but they’re somewhat durable.
Like your videos, a lot of content to help others. I was most fortunate in getting a 66 Beetle with no rust here in Australia, so I’ve still got the original floor coverings, rubber moulded front and rear. Could you recommend the best place to fit a 1kg fire extinguisher in a beetle?
Thank you!!! Honestly I like to mount them in the back seating area on the door pillar…Pillar B!
You recommend patch work on minor damage
Patch work can be done, as long as its done safely!
Slade, I reviewed this video again and have a question about removal of the tar boards on the tunnel: if you are installing carpet and due to the thickness of the carpet, do you remove the tar boards and do you also put the aluminum sound deadener tape on the tunnel? I am removing the 50 year old tar boards from my 74 SB Convertible and am getting close to the taping portion for sound deadening. Thanks!
Those floor pans are in amazing shape. I love the process of wire wheeling and painting. Did the same thing on my Comet. Not as fun underneath lol.
Question.... The tunnel has sound proof??? Are you removing that also ?
Honestly I was quite surprised at the condition of them. I have mostly some rott at the back of the car I’m not thrilled about. But I guess it could be worse. Yes that soundproofing I will leave that on the tunnel. It’s very solid. I’m soundproofing the floor pans and the rest of the insides of the doors.
I love your damn Comet!!
Great videos! Question though: before the priming, why didn’t you repair the obvious hole in the floor, seen under your wrist at the 20:40 mark?
I removed my interior today and found the original black soundproofing wet behind the driverseat and under the rearseat on the left side. Also I noticed several drainholes (drilled by previous owners?) . Where does the water coming from do you think?
Can I bolt down the pans say with 6mm bolts instead of welding??
Where did you had holes (rust damage) in this car?
25 minutes?
