I live in rural southern Spain (I am an immigrant, left the UK a couple of years ago) and keeping all this (the computer at least - clean, protected and powered - during the minor if frequent loss of power we get would be very helpful - I am guessing this could be a later Matter device type - but would be interested to learn more!

      Perplexes me that they downgraded from Wi-Fi 5 on the 2018 OG to Wi-Fi 4 on the “new” HomePod. It’s literally the same freaking thing, except worse and the same amount of money. Think about that for a second they literally had the balls to put a 2009 Wi-Fi radio in a $300 speaker.

    Have one OG HomePod and 5 minis throughout the house. Have to struggle with Siri half the time to get them all to play everywhere. Small place and Wi-Fi is great, close to 1 gig download, and have had four different routers installed over the past four months. Siri still as dumb as a rock. Some times she plays everywhere, sometimes she lights up but plays nothing, sometimes you ask her to stop and she she states there's nothing to stop yet she stops the music that's playing, and sometimes there's just a problem with Apple Music, just to name a few. What a mess. Apple tech support is the worst as they basically have told me they don't know what's going on. Not sure it's worth it to spend $299 on a speaker that's basically a revamped version of the one that had poor sales the last time. Apple really needs to get their act together.

      Have tried resetting removing re-adding and about everything else you can imagine. Can only imagine that
      Apple has no clue what’s behind it as their tier 1 tech could not explain what was happening after an hour of being on the phone with him. He also suggested that tier 2 would not know either and that was it for the call. Poorly written software and execution of releases and very poor tech support. Have been in the tech business for over 31 years and have never been so disappointed in a product as the HomePods. Apple is failing miserably.

    • @garanceadrosehn9691
      @garanceadrosehn9691 Год назад

      The 1st gen HomePod cannot be paired with the new 2nd-gen HomePod.
      Main reason is probably that a pair of homepods have to do a lot of computational audio-analysis to get a balanced top-quality audio result. This gets *much* trickier when the two devices have different audio characteristics. The new HomePod has a different number of speakers and a different number of microphones than the original. I expect the audio characteristics of the speakers are also different. The two models are also running different CPU's. I expect all these differences make it extremely difficult for the homepods to generate an ideal result from pairing up. And anyone who is willing to pay this much for home speakers would be *really* upset if they end up with lousy audio as a result.
      This new HomePod can still be a win for people who own just one of the 1st-gen HomePods. You should look for someone else who has just one of the 1st-gen HomePods. One of you could buy the HomePod from the other person (for, say, $150), and then the second person could buy two of the new HomePods by spending $(600-150). I think that would be win for both people.

      Doesn’t really matter because if you put it in the same room in homekit it will play with any HomePod or stereo pairs up to 6 HomePods at a time. It won’t be a stereo pair but it will work fine. I mean it makes sense. You can pair the old ones together, minis or new HomePods but you can’t mis match pairs.

      I had a similar issue when the HomePod first came out. I was able to airplay from my phone but I couldn't use airplay 2 to connect both HomePods together. My wifi is ultra fast but it turns out it was literally a wifi compatibility issue. I had to get a whole new type of router. I dont remember the specific details why but it was something to do with my wifi blocking the feature and there was lots of tech support calls between my wifi provider and apple. Regardless, ive had many other issues with the HomePod since then. I dont think the HomePods are worth it. They are the worst speaker products ive ever used. reliability isn't there, speed is slow even with crazy fast wifi, the HomePods still have issues connecting to my iPhone and occasionally they pause by themselves. The accounts feature is really stupid as it would confuse my mother from my sister. They dont even have a similar voice they're just both female. HomePod cannot tell the difference between anyone. its like a really really cheap product. Feels like they put no thought into any of its features.
