Smh. I don’t know how anybody could have the opinion in this original comment unless they are someone who does not have the ability to think more than one step ahead. Based on this premise, I would never call the police if I thought a woman was getting her skull beat in. if I see men committing a home invasion, I won’t call the police there either. Because I always could be wrong. Maybe the men were just playing around when they acted like they kick in the door, and they were just delivering guns that the homeowner had actually bought from them. Or maybe they held something else it look like a gun. I mean, how can any adult literally have this type of thought process. I’m not even trying to be nasty, I really don’t get it.

I am pro police and i agree. A thorough and open investigation to the facts should be done by an independent police organization.
You should look into a case from San Jose, Ca around 2007. A Cop walked into a wrong home, discovering a Vietnamese woman prepping food in her kitchen. She challenged his presence in her home, again, while at the counter cutting vegetables with a plastic knife. Officer Blue unloaded on her fearing for his life and San Jose PD basically told the husband you need to drop your lawsuit against us before well pay. As soon as they settled the husband and two grade school daughters left the Bay. Unfortunately, the deputy was legitimately responding to a domestic violence call and was duty-bound to investigate the situation. In the course of this investigation he was presented with the subject of the investigation who was holding a weapon. If the Airman hadn’t been standing in front of him with a gun the there’s a nearly 100% chance that this would have been a non-event. The Airman made a really poor choice and here we are.

Former cop huh...he said that the young man KNEW that the police was out there. We don't know that to be true. Can't help themselves, they're gonna defend each other even if it's slightly.
28+years n law enforcement myself and I have concluded that based off of my personal experiences that we must always assume any statements made from law enforcement to be a lie designed to confuse the truth until proven otherwise via credible evidence.....period. Remember, with law enforcement, it's us (police) against them (citizens/you). No thought necessary when it comes to pulling the trigger once the officer saw the color of his skin (Black) and the gun (pointed in a safe direction DOES NOT MATTER IF MINORITY) it was in his mind a good shoot. If Roger Fortson was white, trust me when I say that caution and care would have been the order of the day. In the end, by changing nothing, nothing changes. The capt is an idiots/plant on here making excuses for the police officer are a disgrace to policing. They have no clue to current policies and procedures, and both are from the past. Remember, even though you spent 30 yrs in law enforcement you only have 2 yrs experience responding to situations similar to this. Remember folks, a capt. is a pen pusher and nowhere near the front lines/street only showing up after the fact to judge actions he can't do.
Second Truth: So the point to yell drop your gun after you shoot is a police tactic used to confuse the truth. In a shooting, there will probably be witnesses and police are trained to yell verbal commands after a shooting because law enforcement knows that witnesses are notoriously bad and just plain not reliable at best. Law enforcement takes advantage of this known truth to bolster their false narrative. Law enforcement knows that half of the witnesses will say "I heard the officer say drop the gun before, and half will say I heard the officer say it afterward". A 50/50 chance is a win in the eyes of law enforcement and the courts. Remember, law enforcement contends that citizens are stupid especially Black People, rich or poor.
As my mother repeatedly said during her PD career, it's a legalized gang. That system is corrupted as it gets.
A biased comment and i think purely based on race, not actual facts. From what the public has been shown i think the officer was probably not justified, but would want to view all the evidence before forming an opinion. As a former officer i stood for the rights of all regardless of race.
Same happened to Ryan Whitaker (white male) few years ago in Phoenix. Answered door with weapon in hand, thinking it was pranksters, immediately shot dead by bad cops. They shouldn't play the race angle because bad cops victimize people of all races.
There was literally no officer safety issue except the one he created by the scary, unqualified officer. He saw a black man holding a weapon in a non-threatening manner and killed him. 2A does not apply to any black person when you police with racism and biases.
There was no disturbance in the victim's apartment; that's the first clue. The deputy hid his presence and voice initially. He then gave commands, from cover, after he shot the victim 6 tines. This captain is a clown and likely helped other officers commit the same reprehensible acts of violence. He wouldn't give this same critic if it was him or someone he actually cared about.
The officer left the leasing office while a phone call was being made and trusted a random woman in the parking lot who did not even know what floor the apartment was on. She told him it was on the 4th floor. The officer went to the 3rd floor. How did the officer know it was on the 3rd floor?? It was a set up!!
It's simple, Captain. It could've been anybody at the door claiming to be law enforcement. You just can't be too careful, these days. You see, there's TWO sides. Try looking at it from the dead man's side.

@rondodson5736 But the citizen also has the right to not answer the door and not speak to police. If the police decide to enter by physical force, that would be a highly questionable move if their own investigation comes up with basically nothing.

This tactic has been used many times to carry out home invasions , in fact I would be surprised if the officer didn't know that. If you get a knock at your door and can't see who it is , you grab your gun...The deputy should have stood in front of the door so he could be seen.

@@Meh71016 Let's go ahead and out the lies you've been spamming over and over about your accusation that the deputy was at the "wrong floor".
As the deputy approached building #1 at ground level, you can see that there are four floors, and the roof overhangs the top floor.
The deputy entered the elevator, pushed the button for the 4th floor, and the 4th floor button illuminated, indicating that the command had been accepted.
When the elevator reached the 4th floor, the 4th floor button illumination went out, indicating that the elevator had reached the 4th floor.
When the deputy walked along the 4th floor exterior walkway, the overhanging roof atop the 4th floor was clearly visible.
And once the deputy reached apartment 1401, the very same apartment the Reporting Party had directed the deputy to, the unit number 1401 was clearly visible in the body cam video.
Apartment 1401 is on the 4th floor. Apartment 1401 isn't on the third floor. The apartment directly beneath 1401 is 1301. Beneath 1301 is 1201. And beneath 1201 is 1101. The first digit of the apartment number indicates which building it's in (building 1 in this case), the second digit indicates the floor (the 4th floor in this case), and the last two digits indicate the apartment sequence on that floor (01 in this case).
The deputy was on the correct floor, at the correct apartment. Ben Crump lied about EVERYTHING, but because you're blinded by your racism and bigotry, you fell for it, and then you came here to flap your lips and spread those lies.
@@DortonFarb you clearly haven't watched the bodycam footage, why don't you want to watch that?
Don't you dare blame this kid
How many times have we seen on the news of a robbery or home invasion of some knocking on a door saying they’re the police only to be robbed or attacked by that person or persons.
Not too often because if you saw video of it, the robbers would have probably seen the camera too and realized that wasn't a great choice of house. There was that one in Seattle though.
Either the 2nd amend says everyone can run around with a gun or it doesn't. If it does, like some like to say, then you should expect to see a gun and the mere sight of one should not be a death sentence.
Answering the door when you know its the cops, with a gun in your hand, isnt quite exactly cold blooded murder. They both made a bad choice. But answering the door with a gun in your hand was the worst one
Policy issue. If the suspect has a gun on a hand and it’s not pointed or in the process of being pointed, the policy needs to be established whether it’s justified to shoot.
So how many folks from the city have had armed robbers knock on door and claim to be police? I know of 4. It happens.
Lots of questions on both sides:
- if the young man could have seen the officer through peep, would he have had gun in hand?
- how did officer know that gun was real… our local officers just took a random in who had a BB gun in public. Shoot first ask questions later?
- why shoot without giving an order when the gun is pointed down, hand not raised, and finger not on trigger
- why answer door at all if unsure if it’s really the police and you can’t see them through peep (ie the police are moving out of line of sight from peep hole) to verify?
This was such a preventable tragedy.
The officer played knock & hide. That's why the Airmen got his gun. Who knocks then hides? Over & over?
Outright Murder !!! by the Gestapo !!!
Never open the door with a gun in your hand especially when the police knock on your door.
The police should of tell him to put the gun down first not after he shot him.. Airman had gun pointed down and the other hand up.
How about never open the door? Four words, should be easy to remember.
Cops backing cops when this was wrong address, firearm not pointed at him, and instantly opened fire at an innocent person.
Guy came to the door with a gun cause he was wondering why someone was banging on his door. He was on a phone call at the time and he or the person on the phone knew/heard the police where the ones there
I don't get it please show me videos, articles, etc where this keeps happening to other groups? I just saw a video today where a white man was shooting at the police with 2 guns and was not killed. The gun was legal. Why do they always assume a black man with a gun is a threat????
This police captain ignores fact that the shooter moved to the side to prevent being seen through the peephole.
That guy is awful. There was no danger
If you watched the video of an Indian guy who called his neighbor that there was a burglar in his house. The nice neighbor tries to help by calling the police. Police came over with no announcement and shot the guy as he was coming out of a fence with his gun. This story reminds me of that video. So sad
Separation is the only solution.
