Just a little FYI... The older guy in the denim vest is John Raitt!!! He played 'Curly' in OKLAHOMA! on Broadway!!!. The producers were originally not going to cast him because they thought he was too tall, but Roger Hammerstein heard him sing and said that he should be Curly. He went on to play the part for 25 years!!! He's also Bonnie Raitt's dad... Unfortunately he passed away in 2005, but I just loved it when I saw him on the show, so I had to see whether the song was on YT. THANKS for uploading it!! :D
I was binge-watching 3rd Rock and seen this scene, I had to find out who that guy was. I found out he was Bonnie raitt's father and he was a singer. But I didn't know the rest of the information that you shared. Just seeing this scene i knew his story was a great one. May he rest in peace.
Excuse me, but Alfred Drake played Curly on Broadway, and Mr. Raitt played the part on tours, or something. Of course, Mr. Raitt played Billy Bigelow in 'Carousel', another opus from "The Big Ampersand".
Mary is attracted to his over-the-top-ness, her polite school teacher persona is just that, a thin veneer. She becomes attracted to him when he makes a particular ass of himself at a wedding, he frees her to be the hooligan that she really is. When they go out to eat at a Japanese grill it's Mary who makes a fool of herself by knocking out the chef with a preternaturally strong toss of a pepper grinder --- Dick brings out the sleeping alien from within her.
No matter how many times I see this scene, I'm awestruck by it, and Jane Curtin is so underrated. I always liked her but didn't fully appreciate her until I saw her on 3rd Rock, and I see the show and her virtually everyday now. It never gets old.
Maybe there would be less anarchy and chaos in this world gone suddenly mad, if there were more programs of such utterly ridiculous comedic talent. By the way, the bloopers are as funny as the show itself.

He was in the Pyjama Game as well….both Broadway and film I think.
Thank you for this info. This is one of my favourite sit-com scenes.
I recognized John Raitt immediately and his voice. Truly enjoy all of 3rd Rock.

One of the greatest comedic scenes in TV history! This is classic! John Raitt is amazing!
What a legend in John Raitt!!❤ and what a great scene.
Although Dick Solomon may be over the top, he does the best he can to fulfill Dr. Albright’s dreams. That’s what love looks like.

I loved that show. When I find it on reruns my search for something to watch ends. Nothing made today compares to this for good well written humor.
I remember the first time I saw this and I still makes me smile.

Yes, John Raitt!!!!
One of the best all time! Can’t watch it just once🤣
What a fantastic cameo appearance probably lost on 1/2 the 3rd Rock viewers at the time

jj mm and SINGING!!! could this be how they met????
Wow remember when America used to be clever and talented and tolerant and ambitious and respectful?
No. It's a completely fictitious moment in time that people like to pretend we can go back to. It's fiction.
Eric Qualen and Travers
Ben Bergin sorry, but I took your lack of a thumbs up as a sign that no one understood the reference! What a shame!
Qualen and Travers
This was a top show and still is John Lithgow is the best!
Fun fact - Rex Linn grew up in Oklahoma
Rex Linn worked with John Lithgow in the movie "Cliffhanger" with Sylvester Stallone.
Rex Linn was born on November 13, 1956 in Spearman, Texas, USA as Rex Maynard Linn.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
In a way, the raven headed lady reminds me of an older Carmen Miranda when she was alive.
O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A, viva la Oklahoma! Yo!
0:01 Uhhhhhhh.......
