I went to the high school where Mr. Haney taught and he also lives in my neighborhood, one of the greatest men I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting, always so nice when I see him around or in public and am not shocked at all he ended up doing something like this. He’s always had a huge impact in our community and always will.
You are so very lucky, I grew up in 80s/90s Scotland where racism was ignored by our teachers, we had an extremely small diverse number of pupils who were Muslim, mixed race from South Africa or Hindu. We also had clear sectarianism in our school between Celtic/Rangers or Catholic and Protestants and also homophobia but again nothing was done about it. I’m so glad that Scotland has become much more progressive and accepting of diversity now.
I love that he explicitly took him aside to tell him that if anybody made him feel uncomfortable that he would immediately take care of it. Love it. Bless this man.
I'm in his public speaking class right now and he is such an incredible supportive teacher. He is everyone's go to when they need advice and we are all so lucky to have teachers like him in our school

Everyone is responding with, “we need more teachers like this.” I would encourage you to become invested in the teachers in your life, or your kids life. I am a teacher, and I know MANY amazing teachers DO already exist. There are so many good people in this world already, if only we open our hearts to see them💕

What we really need is better support and funding for teachers like this! So many of them are burnt out, overworked, and underfunded working in crowded environments with very little mental health support for their students and themselves. Local and federal governments need to invest more in schools to ensure we have as many teachers like him!

Crazy to think I went to high school with Haney, Andre De Silva, and Mckeown. I still remember those days in Haney's public speaking class when Andrew would be too nervous to present. Jacob Mckeown would be there to save and encourage him. In a way... I think Mckeown inspired Andrew to be the best he could be. A true hero.
As a Strath Haven Alumni, Mr. Haney was definitely one of the coolest and most awesome teachers I’ve ever had. This is so awesome to watch! You’re the man, Haney!!!!!!
And another thing that’s really cool is I’ve know Andrew DeSilva since we were in Elementary School. I was in 1st Grade when he was in 2nd. He’s a year above me.

STOP!!!!!!! omg i love mr. haney. i’m in his english class right now and he’s truly the sweetest guy. i have intense speaking anxiety and i always shook whenever i spoke, but he always listened closely and praised me about it. everything i did, he was proud of and it made me feel good about myself. i cried once even, when he told me how proud he was about me stepping out of my comfort zone to participate in the discussions during our presentations, and it really made me feel good for the rest of my day. this guy truly is one of the best people in my life. he’s entertaining, comforting, and just overall a great guy who continues to inspire and play throw footballs in the halls. i’m definitely gonna take another one of his courses just to have him teach me again
I love these segments. But most of all, I love how Kelley lets them talk and tell their stories without trying to take over and how she gets everyone involved emotionally and conversationally!
What an amazing story. What an amazing teacher and students. I had a Teacher that had a BIG impact on me. She was my gd 6 teacher Mrs J Westmorland. From Bishop Townsend public school in London Ontario Canada. I WISH I could find her. To tell her just how much she helped me. She would prob be in her 70s-80s now. But I was going through a very HARD HARD time at home and unfortunately was removed from my home and put into children's grouphome/school but was able to still goto my reg school. She got me this Teddybear which I named snukums lol I had that bear for YEARS until my house flooded as an adult. Anyway her kindness and compassion during that time was the biggest impact ANYONE has EVER had on me in my life.
My dad is one of such teachers. I'm crazy proud he is my dad! And I appreciate such teachers. Many impacted my life positively too. Mr. Ogologo Mrs. Etukenye Mrs. Chude etc
I think it's also nice when celebrities have to experience something with us normals. Like they meet fans all the time but they don't spend 10 solid minutes with them, even though these guest may not necessarily be fans of the celebs. So it's nice to see them interested in the story and these people's lives.

My Junior High / High School was a small town catholic school… but any “racism or bullying “ was not tolerated… I’ll never forget the day my biology teacher turned the class to me saying “you can teach us more in a day than I could in a year from this textbook” the subject was Cancer and I had cancer when I was younger.. so the class became a Question and Answers period…and afterwards I had some classmates approach me and say they didn’t know I went through cancer and apologized for not taking to me about questions they had.. because of that day me and my classmates were a lot more open to discuss things with each-other.
It really is a “small, small world”. Best of luck getting that song out of your head. Lol. Thanks to both men for their service and bravery. Thanks to all that helped and I believe still helping to get people out of there in a such an unplanned & poorly handled evacuation.

Our school district is just outstanding. Kevin is great but I gotta say 95% of our teachers are also great. They care about our kids. They are in our community. We live among each other. When kids graduate from Strathaven they end up still living here raising their families here and a lot of them become teachers and work in the schools. It is a community and every sense of the word. I’ve lived here nearly 50 years. Generations of us live here. Not bad for a place just a few minutes It’s outside of Philadelphia.
Religion should not divide us. God, Allah, Hindu gods, Viking gods look over us all if we believe that they do. But we are all human beings. It’s the fundamentalists of specific religions (not true followers) such as westboro, the IRA and extremist Protestants in Ni, Isis etc That give their religion a bad name. This teacher has proved that he is a true Christian by showing nonjudgmental, non bias and no prejudice over the religion of his students. Thank you sir for being such an awesome human being and Christian xx
Being Asian/Japanese American my siblings and I never had a teacher even close to this. My 7th grade history teacher belittled the Japanese race. It was hurtful and humiliating. Could have definitely used a teacher like this. 🥺
