Promos back then weren't scripted...it was more of a bullet points thing. The Rock would have to talk about a certain subject and mention certain things, but The Rock was someone who went out there and gave you everything right on the fly. Coach was always someone that knew if he was interviewing The Rock that he needed to just go with whatever The Rock came up with...it was so genuine, which is why they worked so well. The 2010's brought in scripted promos and you can definitely tell the difference.
I remembered a story on a podcast or an interview where HHH and The Rock had their first live promo together. The Rock was still freshly new to the wrestling business. HHH went off script in their promo while The Rock was still following his script. After it was over, The Rock went straight to Vince or one of the bosses, pissed off, telling them that HHH went off script which they said that as long as they keep the fans engaged to their promos, it doesn’t really matter. From that day forward, The Rock improvised all of his promos. If it wasn’t for HHH, The Rock’s character would not be as funny as he is now
