Hello… I am a 70 year old widow who has never even used a Weedwhacker before. But I am so proud of myself because after watching your video I was able to restring the spool and it works absolutely beautifully. Thanks.😊
Lmaoooo!!! Seriously. Been sitting here just staring at it for at least an hour. The key here was that hole in the bottom...which you never see in the pre-spooled assembly. This makes my life so much easier. THANK YOU!
People like you, who take their time to make how-to videos for those of us that are mechanically impaired, ROCK. I see you have a couple hundred comments, but I'd bet you've informed thousands of others like me. Not only did I learn how to change the string spool, I also found out you could simply refill the empty ones! No, I did not know that. You probably think that's crazy but I'm not the only one. Anyway, your video couldn't have been any more clear (even for me) or explained any better. Thanks so much for your super informative instructions. ROCK ON!
2:34 THIS is where I kept messing up. I watched your video like 4 times, each time overlooking the initial reverse and having to unwind my incorrect job. I finally got it though thanks to you. You're so sick for making this tutorial, I learned a valuable skill by watching, so thank you.
I bought my Ryobi electric weed whacker at LEAST 10 years ago. Ive never had a problem with it. The string feed works like a champ. I was a bit dubious buying electric but admittedly at least for a weed whacker around the home it really is the way to go.
For the last 18 months I've not let the lawn crew edge or use a weed eater in my back yard. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG I didn't like the fact that they just kept cutting the edge of the lawn further and further from the rock lining the flower beds and leaving bare ground. And the grass was trimmed or scalped several feet around trees, etc. It was a constant battle with them so I told them to just mow and no trimming. I have Zoysia grass so it grows pretty slow. Obviously after a while it could use some trimming. I'm in my 80's so I can't do much of it myself. Finally I decided that if I could find a lightweight battery powered trimmer I might be able to do some light trimming. I decided to buy the LST201 20V trimmer. And it works great for my needs. I have back yard with about 150' of flower beds and several trees to be trimmed. I can lightly trim the whole yard with a single charge! The grass I trimmed was only a few inches high but the trimmer was more powerful than I expected.
I have a box of spools that is lost somewhere in my 10x15 storage unit. I probably won't find them until I move to a new area. This video saved me so much time and money. Thank you my friend!!!
They say it's the operator and not the tool. I bought this Ryobi and just love it! And then the spool ran out, I re-did the bobbin and then it stopped "working". I had an old Sears Home brand and after watching this, for years I have been doing this completely wrong. Thank you for the instruction! Be nice if manuals wrote out what do instead of putting pictures.
Thank you so much! I am a lady that does all my lawn care myself and this was very helpful and will save me so much oney instead of buyng the ready made spools.
I didn't realize the weed whacker line is automatically cut when it is stopped. I was moving from weed to weed in my driveway and stopping the machine when I moved on to each new weed. Apparently the string was cut at each weed! I couldn't figure out why the string was running out so fast. Your comment at the end about how the string gets cut really helped. Thanks so much!
Thank you so much for your help. I hadn't realized how bad I was at spooling. All your tips and tricks worked great, and I now have a whole 5-pack that I'm comfortable reloading now.
cant beleive this video helped so much, do yourself a favor skip to 2:10 when he is done showing you how to hang the spool on a nail (no one does) or better yet skipp to 5:30 and just watch the recap which has all you need in the last few seconds of the video.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video! I was getting so frustrated only finding what look like a double spool for a 40 v, when I'm sitting here with a single spool!. It seems like it would be so freaking simple, made it that much more frustrating. I appreciate the clear and concise directions and the visual to go along with it you did a good job
Thank you so much I was in the middle of a job. As I own my own lawn care business, my Weedwhacker ran out of coil, and I had no clue how to recoil it, so I searched this video up and help me out a lot. Thank you so much.
Thank you for this! I was having a hell of time getting mine to work. Reading the comments that others have shared my frustrations (including it spitting out spool at a ridiculous rate) is really heartening.
Thank you so much. I was putting the string in through the rectangular space not the hole and I didn’t realize that the little holes were just to store it; that it stays free while running it.
Thank you so much !!! This works for the HART weed eater as well .They use the same spool .This is saving people money .Thank you for your video .May God bless you always .
Thanks you for sharing and teaching us all how to do this. Fantastic teaching and instructions / steps in the process, that are easy to follow. Appreciate it and you! Just as a totally kind note, and you’re prob. Already aware, maybe see if you can kick down the audio a little so it doesn’t get a bit distorted etc.
Thank you! I just removed old spool and replaced with a new one. Your video was exactly what I needed. Sometimes you get a DIY video where it turns out the guy is teaching their 8 year old kid while the viewers groan, yell and scream no no no LOL.
My dad gave me the electric weed whacker and it only had one piece of line in it and it keeps falling out. Glad I know how to respoil it when I find more line for it!
Great help. My bulk roll unwinds from the center. Still important to run a long stick through the middle so it can spin off. Otherwise the 1/4 turns stack up and make a mess.
Thanks for the review - I was dreading having to locate the manual in my disorganized binders (plural) of equipment manuals. I have to say that you spared me time and frustration.
Lol! I have a file cabinet folder with all my "manuals" and it's a pain to find something too! But don't worry too much, the Ryobi manuals are terrible and don't give any information!
Thanks for the video!! I was Looking at something that I know was simple but didn’t know if I was doing it right. You saved me a good amount of time!!!
Thank you! I thought the whole spool would come off not just the white cover! If I didn't watch this I would have eventually pulled off the whole spool and probably would end up buying a new one :)
Let's replace the term divit with notch.. I am curious how many people encounter their wheat trimmer line what they call welding on itself so it stops feeding. Any advice or tricks to help prevent the line from interweaving itself and becoming what they referred to as welded?
Spool keeps unwinding? I made a video about the probable solution: ruclips.net/video/339wJE8b4dA/видео.html 2:34 I think a critical error is often made during the 1st step of the process: the new cord/line/string first enters the empty spool in the little 'notch' or 'hole' of the empty spool, and then the cord is wrapped in the OPPOSITE DIRECTION from that inserted line, so back on itself. You insert the line into the spool a couple of inches and then wrap the cord BACKWARDS to the direction it's inserted in the spool. For example, if the new line, when inserted into that hole runs in a 'clockwise' direction, wrap the cord going 'counter clockwise', so reverse the direction of the cord. This is what holds the line in place and keeps the spool from unravelling. When inserting the cord, it should only be able to insert into the hole in one direction, so wrap the entire new spool backwards across that first insertion, the opposite way.
heyit'sjosh.... You are right about inserting it on the spool, I wrapped that flucker around that bitch like stripper wraps her legs around that pole...but due to unfortunate circumstances .... suddenly it got disrespectful and decided to UNRAVEL ...and down went my motivation like saggy titties on a tweaker....
Thank you so much those little details really help I managed to get it wound and in the weed wacker but I knew there was something wrong. Now I'm off to fix my mistake again thank you
I knew as soon as my string ran out that I could find out how to rewind it on youtube. Thanks man!!! Sadly the only string I have on hand is from an old gas powered trimmer and way too big for the spool. Off to the hardware store tomorrow, but shut down for today. 😂
Great video! I've been buying the pre-spooled packs, unaware that u can just replace the line. Someone gave me new lines and I didn't know what to do with it. xD Thanks!
Thank you for the demo. It was the "snap" part that was messing me up. I had the string completely inside the spool, so I had to pull it out and thread it again. Then I put it back in...but when I started it back up, the string kept flowing out. UGH. I watched your video and noticed how you snapped the spool back into place. VOILA!
Thank you 🙏🏻 .. I have been doing it wrong .. I thought I understood , but I kept loosing my line so quick .. the notch start very important.. thank you so much .. ‼️🙏🏻🎁
Just out of curiosity how far are you pushing the line into the notch even after this video I am still having some serious trouble with line coming out really fast and making a not so normal noise while weed eating. I am starting to think mine is broke🤬
Excellent video! It's almost Mother's Day & I've tried before searching how to restring this for my Mom. I thought the line she got might have been too thick (.095 I believe), even tho it said it should fit- But I've never strung a wacker before so I'll try again now that I know how. Thanks!
Thank you! But I think you should use max 0.065" for the line diameter rather than the 0.095. The 40V Ryobi weed whacker only uses 0.080" so the 0.095" is probably for a big ol' gas machine.
Hello… I am a 70 year old widow who has never even used a Weedwhacker before. But I am so proud of myself because after watching your video I was able to restring the spool and it works absolutely beautifully. Thanks.😊
This has been my favourite comment I’ve ever received! Thank you so much, and I’m glad the video helped you! I wish you all the best!!
Isn't it funny how a video about replacing weed whacker line can get hundreds of thank-you comments? Adding mine to the pile 😊
Thank you so much! I’m a single mom and haven’t been able to figure this out for MONTHS. I got it! And finally got the yard done right! 💪🏻
So empowering isn't it! 😁
Me too! Haha! 🎉
Thanks, man. I’ve been trying to figure this thing out longer than I’d like to talk about.
Same here…
Yep. Not proud of how long this took me.
Lmaoooo!!! Seriously. Been sitting here just staring at it for at least an hour. The key here was that hole in the bottom...which you never see in the pre-spooled assembly. This makes my life so much easier. THANK YOU!
My pleasure! I'm happy it helped!

This weed whacker is gods payback for the sins of man. Thank you soooooo much
If you say so...
You couldn't have said that any better dude !
Thanks man this is my first weed eater I've ever used my father passed away before he could teach me so thanks for helping me
Sorry about your Dad...
Same. My dad just passed away too and I'm teaching myself how to use this Ryobi One + out of the 4 weedeaters laying around in his shop.

Thank you, Josh. I am a widow who hates lawn work (my husband loved it), but am stuck doing it. Thanks for making this easy to follow!
You are so welcome!

Some of us don’t have anyone to show us and this worked perfectly! Thank you so much

So is the better method just to always keep it on while you're cutting and start/stop as little as possible?
Thank you so much for your help. I hadn't realized how bad I was at spooling. All your tips and tricks worked great, and I now have a whole 5-pack that I'm comfortable reloading now.
Please make videos for a living. Straight forward, specific. You are the bomb!!!!!!!!!

Thank you. I’ve been struggling with this all summer and finally looked it up. So freaking happy people like you do this for people like me! Thanks!!
Every time when I forget how to open the top of the string area, I come back to this video. Thank you!
My pleasure! Glad it helps!
Hey Josh! Thank you so much! I ran out of string this evening and every single summer I forget how to re- string my whip r snip!! Great video😊 xoxo D
Thank you so much. I was putting the string in through the rectangular space not the hole and I didn’t realize that the little holes were just to store it; that it stays free while running it.
Just received an old weed whacker with no instructions, this video helped, thanks
Thank you so much !!! This works for the HART weed eater as well .They use the same spool .This is saving people money .Thank you for your video .May God bless you always .
Watch a few before yours and you were the only one to mention to UNHOOK the line from the cleats prior to installation. Thank you!

Thank you sir , as a rookie home owner and taking care of a lawn for the first time. You came through big with this one!
Glad to help!
I come back to this video every few months for help. You are appreciated, sir!
Thank you for the nice comment! I also appreciate it!
Thank you! I just removed old spool and replaced with a new one. Your video was exactly what I needed. Sometimes you get a DIY video where it turns out the guy is teaching their 8 year old kid while the viewers groan, yell and scream no no no LOL.
Thanks! I'm sure dad in heaven is proud of me!

I bought this green spool yesterday before seeing this video because it’s way cheaper than buying those 3 spools. Good video thanks.
You are literally the reason RUclips exists! Thanks for the vid, bro!!!
Thank you for the nice comment!
@@heyitsjosh love your work!!!
It didn't take long at all, after watching this. Thanks a lot, bought store brand strings and was able to make it work.
Thanks, I had to take over lawn care and this was more helpful than asking Mr. Know-it-all.
First and only tutorial I needed to watch. Perfect explanation. Thank you sir.
Exactly what I needed to see! Thanks for taking the time to present this video.
Glad it was helpful!
My dad gave me the electric weed whacker and it only had one piece of line in it and it keeps falling out. Glad I know how to respoil it when I find more line for it!
You made me look like a pro this summer! Salute to you thanks!!
Glad it helped! Thank you!
After watching this video along with the one you posted on Faucet's I am now a devoted subscriber
Thank you so much for the nice comment! I appreciate that.
Well done on the video - showing the close ups and each critical step - appreciate it
My pleasure! Thanks for the nice comment!
Great help. My bulk roll unwinds from the center. Still important to run a long stick through the middle so it can spin off. Otherwise the 1/4 turns stack up and make a mess.
Dude, this is so easy I’m embarrassed for myself. Thanks a million times!!
Glad it helped!
Man, dude, I looked and looked on how to string and advance the string, basically just how to weed wack out. OMG, THANK YOU... YOU DA MAN 😊.
Thank you, glad it helped!
Thank you! I've watched others, yours has been the best by far. Appreciate the detail.
Thank you for the nice comment!
Why the string keeps coming out I rewire correct any time I or every a few seconds I looked or stops seeing long string?
Thank You 🙏🏾 After watching your video I was able to restring my Ryobi weed wacker.
Thanks for the video!! I was Looking at something that I know was simple but didn’t know if I was doing it right. You saved me a good amount of time!!!

Loved it. So simple, concised, and illustrated. Thank you so much.
Thanks, was helping my mom when I needed to figure this out. Great video, very helpful
Thank you so much I have been threading wrong for years didn't see the hole on the core thank you. I didn't know about the other features.😢
I'm glad it helped!
You have no idea how much I appreciate this.
Thank you. Weed eating for my husband and it had no wire!
Thank you man, the weedwacker is ready to go once more!
Thanks! First time for repooling my first weed wacker and it was easy peasy!
Thanks, I was doing lawn work this morning and this tutorial helped!
So glad I found thus. Been doing it wrong and backwards
Thank you !
I am so tired of asking my neighbour or husband to change the line for me 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Clear explanation and informative how- to video. Thank you‼️💯👍
Failed this morning and then found your video. Much appreciated. Thank you!
Thankyou
Failed miserably last two attempts
This time thanks to you for your help I can now go get them weeds

Good man! Haha just struggled with this yesterday, and this was the step I was missing.
This comment was the best help. Thanks!

I still can’t get it so that my spool doesn’t unravel?
Mine is older now and I couldn't remember how to refill it so thank you very much!!
Thank you. You taught me how to reinstall new line.
Dude thank you. It’s been a struggle to figure this out.
I received mine used as a gift with no instructions. Thanks bunches!!
Thank you. Mine got wrapped around the motor shaft and I had to disassemble everything before I found this video.
My pleasure! I’m glad it helped!
I was wondering what the extra notches are for. Thanks for showing it. They are used only for storage.
that was alot easier than I thought it was going to be. thank you.
Thank you so much those little details really help I managed to get it wound and in the weed wacker but I knew there was something wrong. Now I'm off to fix my mistake again thank you
I'm glad it helped!
Thanks so much my mom and I could not get auto feed spool at Home Depot today so needed to manually spool. This helped!
My pleasure!
Thanks so much for the very informative & very clearly explained video on how to rewind the string on the empty spool! More power to you Josh!!!
I knew as soon as my string ran out that I could find out how to rewind it on youtube. Thanks man!!! Sadly the only string I have on hand is from an old gas powered trimmer and way too big for the spool. Off to the hardware store tomorrow, but shut down for today. 😂
Glad it helped!
Thanks so much I didn't know about the cord going the bottom first. What a patient saver!! lol
Excellent directions!! Got mine back up n running. Thank u sir!!!
Glad it worked out for you!
Great video! I've been buying the pre-spooled packs, unaware that u can just replace the line. Someone gave me new lines and I didn't know what to do with it. xD Thanks!
4:21 Thanks!
My brother bought me one of these yesterday and I didn't know how to keep the wire from coming out.
VOILA!
Well needed to revisit your video to relearn. Thanks again man. You are awesome
Thanks for the nice comment! Glad it helped!
Thank you...
This has been pissing me off for like a week
Ryobi's instruction book is virtually useless. Thanks for this video.
Excellent, thorough illustration, commentary and recap!
I am starting to think mine is broke🤬
woot !!! got mine workin now !!! different model but I followed your instructions with same logic ~~
Glad it helped!
Incredibly helpful tutorial thank you!
Thanks man. This helped more than you know
Awesome vid! I've been looking for this. Thank you! (5/30/23)
Thank you, very simple. Greetings from Germany
My dad and I thank you for ur knowledge 🙏
Thanks again buddy. Had to refresh my brain from last year 🤦
Oh my goodness! What a Grrreat video!
Excellent video - you made it easy! Thank you!!!!🎉
You are so welcome!
My bad. I started using my 40V Ryobi this past weekend, and the string is 0.095". However, my 18V Ryobi uses 0.065".
Seriously didn’t know these had spools I have been wrapping around the head part that stays and very carefully putting the top back on.
Awesome, thanks! This is the best video that I've seen on the subject.
