The Necrons are a mysterious xenos species of humanoid, robotic skeletal warriors that have lain dormant in their stasis-tombs for more than 60 million Terran years, though they have begun to awaken at last. They are the soulless creations and former servants of the ancient C'tan, the terrible Star Gods of Aeldari myth.
The Necrons are ancient beyond reckoning, predating even the birth of the Aeldari. At long last, however, they are beginning to awaken from their Tomb Worlds, for the galaxy is ripe for conquest and the restoration of the Necron Empire since the disappearance of the Old Ones more than 60 million standard years ago.
The Necrons are a completely robotic humanoid species whose technological prowess is probably unmatched by any of the other intelligent species of the galaxy.

Lore and new fluff goes into a LOT of detail about the horror of the Necron existence.
Necron Biotransferrence was performed without modification of mentality to the mechanical form, meaning they are brains of people of flesh and blood with flesh and blood needs and instincts in a metallic body. As such, they feel themselves needing to breathe when they don't have lungs, need to eat but can't, probably have more carnal needs too, without being able to fulfill those either. Source: Severed, by Nate Crowley
Necrons can perform amazing feats in battle by overclocking their systems, but at great cost. As an example, Obyron killed an entire squad of Severed (mindless Necrons) one by one in melee before the first one hit the ground. The cost? Memories. In this case, the name of his father and the memory of the taste of food. Source: Severed, by Nate Crowley
Warriors, the most mindless of the Necron troops, were created out of children, elderly and infirm. They suffer the greatest existential dread of all, existing in a state of being sufficiently aware to realize their own condition and torment but not enough so to do something about it. Sort of like in "I have no mouth and I must scream". Source: Either the Codex or Severed by Nate Crowley, but I think the latter (can't recall exactly which one).
Obyron is a Lychguard with an Overlord body, because he was an extremely decorated soldier. Zahndrekh's sanity is hinted at being self inflicted, as a coping mechanism to deal with PTSD from the biotransferrence. Source: Severed by Nate Crowley.
Necrons all suffer from extreme PTSD from the Biotransferrence, but their methods of coping vary greatly, as well as their intended sollutions for the problem. While the vast majority seek a return to flesh, others (especially crypteks) look for them to transcend into a form closer to the C'Tan instead, as beings of light. The debate is divisive, but the vast majority belong to the former camp. Source: Severed by Nate Crowley and The Infinite and the Divine by Robert Rath
Necrons are extremely obsessive over their time of flesh and culture, as it is the only thing that keeps most of them sane in the existential dread of their existence. As a direct result, memories and artifacts of such time are extremely precious and guarded carefully to the point of hoarding. While true artistic sense is lost for the most part in the Biotransferrence, evocations of ancient times are performed to the very minute details, as Necrons have time to spare. For example, it is not unusual for a Necron theatrical piece to take several decades, as each detail of the events is reproduced accurately. Source: The Infinite and the Divine by Robert Rath
Necrons dread the Severed, as they are truly soulless machines, beyond saving for there is nothing left to save. As beings, they are literally erased from reality, into oblivion, empty bodies marching under command of AI. Their sight was enough to make Zahndrekh go into a catatonic state and sob uncontrollably for 3 days. Source: Severed by Nate Crowley.
A more sympathetic light was brought on the dreadful existence of the Necrontyr before the War in Heaven, making the overall stirred hate towards the Old Ones much of an act of desperation. Trazyn recalls in a memory how they used to pray to their gods to keep the cancers at bay for another year. Source: The Infinite and the Divine, by Roberth Rath
The reason the Necrons cannot revert the Biotransferrence is because they don't understand the process. This is both because it was performed under heavy C'tan intervention, as well as because the memories of that time appear to be oddly hazy for, apparently, everyone. The only one with intact memories would probably be the Silent King himself. Source: Severed by Nate Crowley and The Infinite and the Divine by Robert Rath
In at least some cases, the form granted to the Necron has been done as a punishment, to mock a predicament or a trait. In the case of Trazyn, his transferrence was done as an old man, so his body was created to mock this feature, hence his position looking crooked and decrepit. Orikan's snake-like appearance was created to mock his personality, as, supposedly, he was always a snake, even if by character. This sort of punishment was, apparently, reserved for those who fought back against the process. Source: The Infinite and the Divine, by Robert Rath
Flayed Ones aren't just infected with the virus that makes them mutate and hunger for flesh. They exist as a cult of the dead Llandu'gor the Flayer. Theories suggest that the Flayer curse IS Llandu'gor, or, at the very least his remains, if barely aware. While not so much existential dread, it is closer to cosmic horror as, among other things, Flayed ones appear to be able to link and perfectly copy the minds of the victims they flay, and use them to lure their loved ones. Source: Psychic Awakening: Gone Dark
Destroyers are not just a random corruption caused by the long sleep, but an actual curse. Necrons call them "The tainted ones". They seek to exterminate all life and then themselves, and their disease is contagious. When used in battle, the destroyers and all they came in contact with is thoroughly destroyed afterwards, including the troops. Source: Codex: Necrons 9th Edition and The Infinite and the Divine, by Robert Rath.
It is not uncommon for the Crypteks, who, as scientists, are less bound to their fleshy forms and pasts, to extensively modify themselves in order to expand their capabilities, to the point they no longer look remotely "human". Other practices include using empty bodies of people still in hibernation to expand processing power. Source: The Infinite and the Divine, by Robert Rath
For a Necron, the mind, located in the core and existing as software, is the only important part, while bodies themselves are spares. Not all Necrons, however, are able to freely bodyjump. As a result, the experience of the destruction of the body, while not technically lethal as long as the mind is recovered, can be deeply traumatic and cause damage to the personality engrams of the Necron, making them die inside little by little with each death. Nowhere is this more clear than the Warriors, who have died countless times, yet cannot even exteriorise their suffering as they slowly decay into true mindlessness, their trapped true selves lost into oblivion. Source: Severed by Nate Crowley and The Infinite and the Divine by Robert Rath

In the lore the necrons that turned into the flayed ones killed a ctan known as the flayed king and before it died it cursed those specific necrons to have that flayer virus during the war in heaven.
The accolade was "The Flayer" but yeah. It was the Maynarkh Dynasty
The player virus is also contagious to other uninfected necrons within their area. Twice dead king; Ruin goes into the flayed ones a little, and the progression of the flayer virus and its symptoms in the more intelligent necrons
@@fiaa01 True. It infects via contact with the living metal skin of a necron, and has actually been transmitted to non-Necrons before. A few Admech techpriests got infected with the flayer virus while experimenting with living metal, and began to mutilate themselves and worship Llandu'gor.
Personally, I'd be interested to know specifically what Llandu'gor's "domain" was. The Nightbringer's is death, the deceiver's is lies, Void dragon is tech, but we know pretty much nothing about Llandu'gor other than its nickname "the flayer." Sure you could argue that the domain was skinning enemies, but considering how broad the other C'tans' domains are, that seems a bit too specific. Hopefully we get some answers in some form eventually.

*HYPE!* Destroyer cults and the Flayed Ones are arguably my two favorite units in 40k lore. They're just so horrific. Destroyers are psychological horror, Flayed Ones physical / body horror.
I'd add flayed ones to the psychological horror.. because they are insane, and their attempt to wear and consume flesh may be a form of misguided attempt to return to said flesh as much as a result of their curse.
Destroyers have their body horror too when you think about it. All necrons don't want their form altered any further, but destroyers willingly do so to kill better. In a race of ROBOTS, they manage to be the equivalent of the admech awith how far they are willing to discard their old body.

World Engines are typically deployed in fleets according to one Phaeron. If the Necrons fully awoke, they would sweep over the galaxy effortlessly.
Since the Beast Orks employed semi-regular use of attack planetoids, and those are just incomplete, nerfed versions of the Krork that the Necrons fought for millions of years straight, it would be surprising if the Necrons didn't have massed World Engines and stuff even larger.
Orks would just keep coming back. The nids would give them a run for their money. The only way the Necrons win is destroy all planets and bio matter. Literally create a void.
@@Ashtor1337 The necron can cut the tyranids off from their hive mind warp field. Without the hive mind telling them what to do, the nids become worthless. Every last tomb world can send out the signal that cuts nids off from the hive mind. It is why nid fleets avoid tomb worlds.

when you think about it,the Necron gauss weapons are rather mericull weapons due to a sucessfull hit dismanteling the target in a heartbeat of time and doing so down to the atom you will never bleed out slowly from a gauss weapon (assuming its a lethal hit and not a dismembering hit ofcourse)

so I saw the map for all the necron territories and that got me thinking about all the other faction maps and how they overlap, mainly around the damocles gulf because I'm running a tabletop campaign set there. Today I have discovered that the Tau empire is not only imbedded with Sautek tomb worlds, but also surrounded on all sides. They got orks to the west, ultra marines to the south, hive fleets on the east, and more necrons to the north. They are FUCKED unless they manage to like, reverse engineer necrodermis or something
To this day, I still miss the original Scarabs. They were like 3x the size of the ones now, with only one per base instead of swarms. They would climb on top of vehicles and for every one of them that was on a vehicle, it's armor value would be reduced by 2. They also used to have the rule that all Necrons had where they would put off a disruption field that would increase the roll needed to hit depending on the number of them with range of the attacker. it made them really hard to hit and when you did finally hit them, their armor was better than a space marines and their toughness was through the roof. Scarabs were so much better back then.
Hey! I'm a huge Necron fan, I collect necrons since 2014 and I love this episode! And (if you don't mind) there's trivia you might mist!
1- another reason why necrons hasn't take the galaxy yet is because their overlords are too busy fighting each other for power, if they all united their forces probably has some chance to conquer it.
2 - The flayer virus its actually a curse! From the c'tan Llandu'gor, the flayer (duh) Who was annihilated during the silent King betrayal. Everybody infected has a terrible appetite for flesh, but they are robots! so they all gonna have this hunger for meat forever. They have their own tomb world call Drazak (basically where everyone exiles them)
3 - there are so many other dynasties, obiously with less lore, like the Thokt who, like the Mephrit, has blue energy in their weapons instead of green and the Kayra and the Rytak dynasties, who hated each other so both hired deathmarks to kill the opposite Royal court, both succsessfully did it and now there are leaderless dynasties
4 - the inferior race that hate Imotekh the most are the orks, because despite being the best strategist in the galaxy, he doesn't have a solid Victory againts them, they defy all logic so all strategy are mostly useless and they just keep coming and coming
(I'm not a english speaker, sorry if there are some errors i did my best!)
When they started talking about the electric arc gun, I immediately thought of the arc weapon in star wars rebels used against the mandalorians.
Shy does a fantastic job with the editing, got some good chuckles from the pictures alone.
Thanks a lot, guys.
I used to not care about 40k stuff, and now I've binged most of your vids about it, and I'm pondering what kinda Necron inspired character I can come up with for D&D.
"Stop talking about Firefly! That was 20 years ago! I want to be Cayde-6 now- OH WAIT."
This hurt. Right in my feels. I miss my boy.
Guess who came back around for a visit. Lol wasn't there best dlc but wasn't in the top 3 of the worst of em soo...
Huh only not got around to watching this one and yet again someone on the podcast team snuck in a few Destiny nods, always nice to see.
I need this rn, I got to level 20 on the Guantlet and need some air
The true hero of this podcast is the "Sister That We Don't See"...
Maybe she's a sister of silence

25:30 considering how big Nietzsche was for nihilism giving a name of his work to star destroyers makes sense
He actually thought nihilism would be bad for humanity.
I heard the favorite dance at parties is to " Hit the Cron "
Uploaded on my Birthday! What a great episode. The Necrons were actually the first Codex I ever got back in 6th, so that’s a pretty funny coincidence. I’m sorry I’m not able to support you guys on Patreon, even though I really want to. Moneys just a tad tight at the moment.
Happy Birthday
I'm pissed that the Heavy Construct is no longer sold on Forge World, but those things were amazing.
Do you think Bricky knows of the Ghoul Stars and how something there made a Tyranid Hive Fleet insane? Kind of unique since the Tyranids are inmune to Chaos and used to The Warp.
Did you come from majorkills video?
I wouldn't say they are used to the warp as they don't use the warp for space travel and their psyker ability comes from the hive mind not the warp
Necron tomb worlds have a technology that can cut off nids from the hive mind. EVERY tomb world can do this and it is why the nids avoid tomb worlds.
This podcast is absolutely awesome. Keep up the good work.
The Nercons are what Arthur C. Clark once said technology advances to a point where magic and tech can't tell the difference between the two
The tesla carbines had some fun in 8th edition- shoot with a triarch stalker to get the sweet rerolls of one, MWBD from a Lord and a stratagem to get extra hits on 4+
It was pretty nuts
I always thought that the Flayed Ones had an error in their biotransferance that left them feeling freezing at all times, and that they thought they'd lost their skin and, in fear of freezing to death, they rip the flesh off of their victims to coat themselves in to stave off the eternal cold in their bodies.
I like the longer episodes. My job has me driving all day and this makes it so much easier
You should've talked about how the Flayer Curse came to be.
It's the result of a C'tan, Llandu'gor, the Flayer, being killed during the Necron revolt against them. Not broken into shards. Actually destroyed completely, and it cursed its killers (mainly the Maynarkh Dynasty) with it's dying breath.
To quote: _"To those who have turned their faces away. To those who are faithless and wretched in their jealousies. To those who have denied us. To those who have denied me. I will wreak vengeance. I will wrench your souls and break your bones. I will cast hunger through your accursed existence. Down the eons, you will not forget. I will grant you this gift from love turned aside and make you like me, break you in my image as you have broken me. I shall cast the fear of myself into you and all of your kind. I am Llandu’gor. I am the hunger. I am the flayer, and from this moment, you shall be too."_
Well, maybe it'll come up if there's an episode about the various C'tans.
Had to give a big thumbs up for the Red Letter Media reference to Lightning Fast VCR repair
Taking the million worlds at face value, the imperium must have a human population in the quadrillions or even septillions
Sounds like warhammer alright
It's in the trillions but exactly what is anybodys guess
The editing in these videos always makes me laugh, but this episode's editing was just perfection. Well done, and thank you!
Zandric tries to seduce a sister and I can just imagine her using a heavy flamer on him and he is just annoyed.
It's got to end in some pepe le pew type stuff for him.
He has that mildy angry look on his face while placing his hands on his hips like a grumpy teen. Also all of his clothes are on the floor
It's the equivalent of a girl at the bar throwing her drink in your face LMAO
Zandric:"Aw that's kinda mean. Burning a lovely Necron leader like me. I may be old but I'm great in the sheets."
“Playing hard to get, I see”

You had to bring cayde back up to memory huh Brick?😭
45:08 that is up for debate when you take into account how much experience the swarmlord has.
I'm actually going to be running a 750 point game against a friend of mine in the next week or so. I'm running Necrons and he's running Kriegsmen, so we'll see how it goes.
So how did it go?
@@nathangerardhernandez9576 we may never know
I am kinda glad that I only properly started getting into Warhammer about a year ago because I've heard that the Necrons used to be just bad, evil guys back in the day but they are so interesting
I ain’t gonna lie when I first discovered this podcast and channel, i just thought it was like another mediocre warhammer fan channel. I heard of bricky but never watched a lot of his videos. Never heard of DK or Shy. That being said I’ve watched and rewatched all episodes and animations thus far. I’m pretty good well versed in the lore tbh and I think bricky does actually a great job in summarizing events. Bricky and DK are hilarious, they work very well together. I wish we could see more of Shy, she does great editing work. And this has been my new favorite warhammer fan channel and one of new favorite podcasts and I’ll definitely will soon to be a patron. It’s interesting, it’s funny, and I honestly look forward to more episodes. Great job as always guys. Keep killing it.
Hi! Very late but just to clarify, shy only does editing and stuff because she's mute. That's why bricky and dk often relay what she says.
Great episode as always! @Bricky, Mike would be proud of this episode. Except missing the obvious pun about apparel at 3:10 :D
Bricky:Turbonerd that cringes at anime for reasons unknown
D.K:Overreacts at every little thing Bricky says
Shy: Only decent person
Hit and miss.
I do hope them the best but some things cannot be ignored and these are some points. Bricky can be a little lack luster because he is supposed to be the "teacher" in this podcast and makes references to the Warhammer Wiki which... It's not the most accurate source out there. Tho I really hope he doesn't get absolutely EVERYTHING off 40kWiki because at that point it's just being OneMindSyndicate. DK I think should be the "usual dude who doesn't know about 40k so he comes into it blind" yet his reactions are not everytime... normal, sometimes he exaggerates a lot of his reactions which to be fair I can understand why because you can't go "o k" at everything and call it a podcast.
Shy,like Martian Manhunter in the Justice League,is the heart and soul of the team. She does a fantastic job.
I wrote all of this in the name of valid, constructive criticism.
To be fair, anime *is* cringeworthy.
Shy? Decent person? I see you're new here, mah boi
@@flawlesstheory5111 nope. I know she can be a degenerate sometimes. My kinda degen
No.
> Thousand Sons want it for some reason, I dunno
I bet it's the same reason it's all the time with them. At least partially. To destroy Fenris, Fang and Space Wolves. That is ALLWAYS their goal no 1.
The idea of unleashing C'tan on Fenris probably tickes their fancy.
