    That was entertaining!
    Sorry about your sleeping bag. Safely back and story to tell 😁
    I’m thinking of may be getting Helm 1 (have Helm compact 3 for family camping) and I’m amazed it’s stood up so well to such strong winds.

      @MarkOutdoors_  5 дней назад +1

      @@Deadushka99 it made a good wild camping video with that weather and the disaster didn’t it. It just goes to show what can happen when you leave the inner open and the wind opens the outer door. They are a great tent for the value. It stood so well and I recommend it for winter tent indeed as the strength difference between the helm 2 I had and the once is really big. Thanks for watching

    That was some brutal wind! Really impressed that the Helm hung on for that long, as they do have quite flat sides. So so gutting to have lost your new sleeping bag! 😣 Good decision to bail though. Takes a strong strong tent to stand up to a wind offensive like that. James.

      I was impressed too with it. Up to 50mph winds it was solid. Then the 65 and 75mph gusts hit. Yeah guttering in a way but a lesson learned on my half. I searched the valley for a full day but couldn’t find it at all. Thanks for watching buddy 😊

    After a tent go flattened in a storm went the hilleberg route for peace of mind and reckoned it would save money in the long run as wouldn't have to replace/repair damaged tents again, the latest being a Soulo BL.
    With regard to the wind shooting in the door, had an akto ripped out of the ground when a gust shot in the door during a storm, no damage other than a slighly bent pole, even after dragging me along the ground , hanging onto a guyline till the gust died. My sleeping bag was still in the tent when it came back down to ground.
    Survival bag came in handy as shoved the tent with the sleeping bag still inside into it and did a runner..

    • @MarkOutdoors_
      @MarkOutdoors_  9 месяцев назад

      I had a Hilleberg soulo BL but I found it was only good for extreme weather which I kept out off. This was a one off. This is the only damage and loss in all my many years of camping. I was sheltered but gusts came round when they weren’t predicted. The tent performed well and weather it was a Hilleberg or any other brand the same would have happened with a gust like that and the inside door been open. Thanks for the advice and thanks for watching 😊

    Hi.....brutal conditions but good to see the tents in action!
    Interested in your conclusions about the tent pegs as ut seems they were the determining factor for the soulo rather than the tent itself?
    Did the 9 inch Eastons hold in the ground etc??
    Any thoughts would be appreciated mate.
    All the best and Happy New Year!!

      Hi mate. The soulo had the Y pegs in it and a few extras on the wind blown side. The ground was soft so it was just pulling them through and out. I use 9 inch eastons on all my guy lines and sweat by them. They go deep enough to hit better ground and never pull out when they are on a slight angle. None of mine came out on then9 inch just a short tent peg did. I wouldn’t use anything else unless it’s summer with no wind. My tent pegs vary from Alpkit Y pegs to terranova pegs with the lip at the top and they are all good. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching 😊

    Get your self some delter pegs , peace of mind if the wind picks up

    • @MarkOutdoors_
      @MarkOutdoors_  9 месяцев назад

      My 9” stakes didn’t come out of the guy lines. It was just one side of the tent base with a stand peg. I have used the deltas and didn’t like them as they used to slip on soft ground and of it was too hard of ground them were hard to get in. The stakes just go deep and can be brayed in. Deltas are a great peg though. Thanks for watching 😊

      Yeah a failure on my side which has never neem heard of before. A lesson learned and a mod to the tent door so I have a piece of cord I can put around the peg too. I got it at £279 on the sale but the sales off now. They are £350 now. The weight to comfort temperature is sort of unbeatable. They are better then ran by a mile for it hence why I bought it. I recommend it. Thanks for watching 😊

      @@craigy1872 I have Just checked and I purchased mine November the 10th when they had a sale on. I would just keep an eye on the site as you save £70 in the sale. In my opinion it’s worth getting the 800 over the 600 as it’s only £29 difference and 150g for a comfort rating of 17 rather than 11.

    That’s a shame about you bag them winds seemed brutal. I was out with mark when his helm 2 poles bent we made a bit of an error pitching at red tarn and the wind direction was really unpredictable and we were getting hit by gusts from the opposite side to which the wind was supposed to be blowing. My abisko lite 2 was bending in quite a bit from the gusts hitting it side on but it was holding up. I’ve went and ordered a second set of poles to double pole it just incase haha

    • @MarkOutdoors_
      @MarkOutdoors_  10 месяцев назад +1

      The winds were mad. I couldn’t imagine what the winds were like on the top. He came to mine and was telling me how bad it was. I couldn’t believe how bent his poles were when he dropped them off at mine as I used - couple of his straight sections to fix mine. I always find up the lakes in places like that the wind comes in and then lifts up causing a spiral of wind. At least you all survived with just a few poles bent. Thanks for watching 😊
