At 0:02 you can see a puff of black smoke come out the back of the engine and also hear a loud pop soon after from the engine. If you have any questions, read the description above or you are welcome to ask!
I have to disagree. There's no deflagration and flame shoot thru the compressor section. And I've seen my share of compressor stalls. The 'pop' seems to indicate a stall, but I think it may have been a bird strike with a minor rollback, so if there was a stall, it was only partial. Have a great story about backing a 727 off the overrun at BGR at dusk, '82 or '83. Best fireworks show, ever, for the spectators, with the stall flames coming out to abeam the wing root, ~25 ft. And we avoided the CNN stringer crew. That was the cherry on the cake. (atr-17k hrs) I could always be wrong. The P&W JT8D was prone to stalls on some series (-15s). This -90, unless it was one of their ER versions, had International Aero V2500s. Maybe they cough differently. ATL, eh? I lived in Fayetteville for 10 years. Guess which airline.
Pilot on takeoff: Hold my beer *hears a loud bang from the engine* YOU KNOW WHAT? GIVE ME BACK MY BEER Edit: Thanks for hearting me, by the way. Good day!
man the people disliked it because they think it didn't show the engine having compressor stall well people go to the pinned comment and maybe they should look carefully
No issue if one engine failure as both engine is on the Tail. Slight compensation needed to travel straight unlike 737 or A320 where engine is far away from centre line. One engine will yaw the aircaft terrible. Main issue of MD90 is the noisy jet engine for seating closer to engine.
James Teagardenj At 0:02 you can see a puff of smoke and hear a loud pop. The plane isn’t stalling but there was a small explosion inside one of the engines. It’s call a compressor stall.
The procedure usually to reduce or even completely close the thrust lever to idle and see if the compressor out of stall condition. If the stall condition is over, the thrust can be increased again. If not, the engine should be shut down to prevent damage to the engine and then going back to the airport for checking.
I don’t get to see any MD 90s flying into LA but I was fortunate to have been employed by McDonnell Douglas when those aircraft were manufactured I worked as a flight rap mechanic on those as well as every series of MD80 MD11& 717 Delta airlines is he only airline operating the MD 90 that I know of nowadays anyways God bless are you aircraft platters and if you read this thank you for your time
Faith Sky Well that's normal for this aircraft I'm just talking about the engine having a compressor stall right after it takes off😂 it's in the description above and if you look at the back of the engines you'll see a puff of smoke and hear a bang.

A bit of smoke but definitely no loud pop

Always liked the MD90 so long and sleek looking engines all the way back wings are clean no engine hanging off.
I agree that it looks more like brake dust. An engine surge is a pretty noisy event with visible flame.
Garcansdad Go to 0:02 and you’ll hear a loud pop.
@@SuperSpotterATL stop teasing us, I'm using over ear phones yet no "loud pop" is heard
@@JustRememberWhoYoureWorkingFor Don’t know what to say man. It’s there and I saw it. Not great on camera maybe but it happened.

DAMN THATS ONE LONG BOY!
That looked more like brake dust when they hit the brakes after rotation. otherwise you would have heard a bang or successive bangs.
Tyler H Listen at around 0:04 you'll hear the bang.
Ahhh there it is! At first it sounded like a person.
Tyler H Its all good bro! Just wish it was on the NO.2 so I could've seen the flames
Captain Cooper exactly!
Brake dust???

Would you mind if I use 10 seconds of this video for a YT video I'm making?
Nice departure, I would not even have noticed it !
theDoubleH63 When I saw it I had to upload it! Not a very common thing to catch.

Stunning capture! May I feature this clip in one of my next episodes? Of course with a link back to your original video. Cheers!
Of course!
Uhhhh so at what point was the stall???
James Teagardenj At 0:02 you can see a puff of smoke and hear a loud pop. The plane isn’t stalling but there was a small explosion inside one of the engines. It’s call a compressor stall.
Did it flied?!
So can the engine be restarted after a compressor stall or is it damaged?
pcsc1097 The engine is working throughout the stall, so when the stall is over, thrust comes back instantly.
This is not bait, at 0:02, a black gas come out from the back of the engine.
That was not compressor stall.
GE2500 PLUS TECH
GE power Generation.
The camera mic must have distorted the pop or something because I could only barely hear it
It's just clickbait
Could you make a video at the fort Lauderdale airport thanks
Maulan Wong Yeah I can definitely do that in the future!
That's a long plane
So when the compressor stalls, how do they get it going again? It appeared to climb with ease
Compressor doesn't necessarily mean the engine shuts off. It can be a short drop in power before the airflow normalizes again.
The procedure usually to reduce or even completely close the thrust lever to idle and see if the compressor out of stall condition. If the stall condition is over, the thrust can be increased again. If not, the engine should be shut down to prevent damage to the engine and then going back to the airport for checking.
We gotta do something to stop this dive
Nice vid:)
What’s a compressor stall
your averagepilot I put it in the description above!

Wow cool
Geminijets 46 It sure was
+Captain Cooper beautiful takeoff!!
Faith Sky I don't think the pilots and passengers next to the engines would think so with this but thanks for watching😂
+Captain Cooper yeah i think so too after seeing it again! it looks like they just pointed the plane almost straight up!

Cool. Are you a mechanic?
stitch16261 I'm a pilot!
Sorry. Did this Delta flight make an emergency landing or continue on?
Nothing to be sorry about mate! No it continued on since it was basically a little hiccup. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Mate!

That plane is so ugly
This is not a compressor stall 🤦🏻♂️ it is clearly brake dust .. my god this extremely exaggerated 🤦🏻♂️
