I love Dopethrone a lot as well, but this is rad, I love this.
The six tracks work together nicely. People need to take in the piece as a whole to really appreciate it. I love the album.
I love it too. I'll always support the Wizard. I just miss the early power trio days. That desperate, melancholic sound. The new stuff sounds more slick and gimmicky.

Whatever the hell people say, that song is AWESOME! Good old groovy sabbath sound with much heavier tones and everything. I'm really happy with the sound that band is trying to get. I'm very hyped to listen the whole album!

Electric Wizard are sludge/doom metal pioneers and yet they can still do a retro stoner doom album that's wayyyy heavier than anybody else. Truly the heaviest fucking band in the universe \m/

I've noticed that with slow songs it takes longer for me to like them. I guess since it takes longer to take it all in and less is given to you at one time.

Well, yes and no. In this case, it is more a question of the right amp, the right pickup, the right tuning and the correct pedal. Than it is about what exact guitar it is. And yet the guitar and bass are important as well.

Nice fresh tunes from the mighty Electric Wizard. I love how these guys are always evolving and experimenting with tones. Witchcult Today will always stand tall but I'm liking the new stuff.

No it is not, I have just listened to it again after reading your comment. This here sounds more like a very plain and generic doom band , it is just mediocre and boring at its best. Can't compare to witchcult today or some other albums.

@@Bullheadrecords Fun fact, the instruments on the Dopethrone are tuned less than a semitone lower than this. That's the difference the choice of guitar tone makes.

All I can say is that this is a real grower and getting better with every listen.
Even at their most average, EW still beats the shit out of the 95% of the stoner/doom/hardrock (revival) scene today in terms of heaviness and good songwriting.
Also I do not see any point in comparing a band's new material to older releases; each recording by any artist/band should be looked upon as an entity of its own.

I mean Funeralopolips is the best guitar I have ever heard in my life, but the stuff I find myself stuck in, the most omnipotent earworms I have ever heard is from "current era" but all over the place. One week it's We Live the next it's Torquemada 71, Dunwich or Saturine, the next week it's Black Mass... THE Gold Standard of Doom. Everyone else is competing for 2nd place.

I love this. It's not a simple homage to past bands from eras earlier without it's own thing. It's distinct but familiar all at the same time. Pretty coolio.
Uncle Acid is the band that can come even close to these heshers.
To make really legit blues, it helps to be down, and a little bit bad. Well done.

No doubt that if EW had released a track which was in the same style as the rest of their work, there would be an equal amount of people complaining that they never do anything new and are just recycling all the old stuff.

This is the same style as the rest of their work. Unfortunately, this style, the wizard's style, needs to be punchier and more menacing to make sense.

The bass is there it's just a production pov decision. No amount of bass playing wizardry can make a bass sound Wizard-fat if the production isn't there to make it fat.
Judging by these comments it seems like EW fans want Dopethrone soundalikes recorded on a toaster.
Bands like Electric Wizard can never win with people nit-picking every release they do. I quite liked Black Masses myself. Time To Die not so much, but I like this one a lot having heard the whole thing now. I'm just glad they are here and keep on rolling.

I love this song. I don't get why it's so bad to some people. The lyrics are badass, the retro sound is cool as fuck and the riffs are heavy and bluesy. The video is also a really cool Sabbath tribute

The internet and culture in general is ruled by snotty 19 year olds. Metal and hard rock has turned into either pop music or band kids playing as much jazz under animal noises as possible and thinking they are Frank Zappa or Yngie Malmsteen or however you spell it. They are all hooknose nerds who couldn't groove to a bass line if a chick was blowing their dingle dangler.

I have to be honest, I've never been a fan of Electric Wizard but this great! Love the 70's style. I know everyone will butcher me for saying this but it's nice to finally have some clean and understandable vocals for once. Now i'm curious about the rest of the album.

Mr. Meatballs lyrics are still super dark, tbh this is the same style theyve always had, dopethrone was their heaviest and everything else has kinda been like this track.

It’s impressive this song runs 7mins and it’s a complete throwback for me, growing up on sabbath/ozzy, iron maiden, Judas Priest. This was refreshing, it’s sublime my friends. Well done ❤😊

Can't wait for the next album. I like that they're at least trying to evolve and develop a sound beyond their earlier stuff. Though I would like them to go back a little to the heavier tone of their earlier work, while still keeping the more experimental edge of their recent output. Ya'll are the kings of doom metal regardless.
