I have an MP3 500. It rides exactly like my motorcycle, but it is FAR more stable at freeway speeds, it rides like a much larger bike. . Passing trucks, wiggly pavement... no problem. Rode it from Salem, Oregon to Santa Barbara, California along the coastal road. Very comfortable, maneuverable, fast and got 70 MPG. Highly recommend it.
Steve Miller I have a 500cc mp3. .In the UK it's possible to ride without taking a motorcycle exam. .plus I have a leg injury which makes manoeuvring a heavy two wheeler practicality impossible but the mp3. ..lock the tilt and no problem
my brother has a spyder, he has been a biker for 35 years before getting hit by a car and almost losing his leg. They aren't the same as a bike, almost feels like a cross between a 4 wheeler and a snowmobile. But he still gets to get out and ride. Glad to see they are working on the tilting bike.
For everyone whining about trikes, they are designed to keep bikers on bikes when physical ailments take over. Personally, I think this design is a missing link for a lot of riders that have had to give up their bikes. In another interview, the designer explained his desire to still have the proper motorcycle riding feel, while adding a bit more contact patch, with an extra tire, to make cornering faster, and lesson the danger of gravel on a bend. He also worked with veterans because there are A LOT of riders with leg & back injuries that just can't hold up a large bike anymore. Getting these folks back on a bike was the inspiration for the hydraulic version that stands itself up at lower speeds & stops. Unlike traditional trike conversions that change the whole riding/handling experience, this set up retains the steering and feel of a bike.
+LoganPicks A third wheel does not increase the contact patch. it merely redistributes it. The size of the contact patch is dependent on the weight and air pressure. You can change the shape of the contact patch but the size does not change.
+Coleman Adamson I don't follow. A "contact patch" is the patch of tire making contact with the road at a given moment. If you take 2, normal sized motorcycle tires and then add another the same size, yes you are increasing the amount of contact patch as far as I understand it. Anyhow, it wasn't my words. It was what the designer has to say in a different interview.
LoganPicks Your conception of contact patch behavior is only true in a non-pneumatic tire. The more tires, the more the weight is distributed among them. Each tire has less workload, less weight to bear. Therefore the contact patch for each tire becomes smaller. Tires are not flat, they are round. The more inflated, the higher the pressure, the smaller the contact patch. Adding more tires will add to the size of the contact patch ONLY if you decrease the air pressure in them...and then only to a point beyond which the tire will fold up under itself and you lose contact in the center of the patch. Related: if you put wide tires on a car you change the shape of the patch but not the size. The shape becomes wider side to side but shorter front to back. This aids starting and stopping but makes cornering less stable and makes it harder to steer in a straight line. Taller thinner tires lengthen the contact patch front to back and shorten it side to side thus making straight line rolling and cornering more stable but this takes away from stopping and starting. abilities.
+Coleman Adamson Again, just what the designer said in an interview, not my words however, if you must argue an old post, you are only partially right. Yes, adding another tire spreads the weight, lessening the contact patch on each tire, but it's not a direct correlation. Weight & pressure adjustments on a tire only changed the contact patch by a percentage. While you are correct thinking that the contact patch on the other two tires will decrease, when adding the third tire, the decrease won't be equal to the area gained by the extra tire. If one really wants to get picky, this all changes again with sidewall flex, compound composite of the tire, downforce, temperature... but that's really overkill. Basically, I'll be sticking to my 2 wheels, but trikes can be a great option for those with physical limitations. This leaning design is the closest a trike has come to a two wheeled bikes feel and road behaviour.
The Can-Am Spyder is a roadster. BRP doesn't market it as a motorcycle. I'm laughing at all the 3 wheel haters getting their panties in a bunch. Kudos to those who ride, you're out there doing it on 2 wheels or 3.
For those bashing trikes being for those who are afraid. I know a gentlemen who is one tough bastard, served 30+ years but had a stroke. The doctors said he'd be lucky to live. He owns a few businesses, walks with no help, talks fine, but can't ride regular any longer. So, he rides a trike. Not out of fear and not for being weak.
+VengefulTick Hell yes their tough. I have seen it up close and personal. It is not easy to go through life when the body no longer does what you tell it to. It takes guts, fortitude and perseverance to push through and continue to be active and continue on with things like riding. What does it take to be an internet punk and sit on a keyboard in mommies basement and wrongfully denigrate others?
I have the 2016 MP3 500. Different from the other two shown, it CAN fall over unless you engage the lock switch. This can only be done at very low RPM and under 10 MPH. Mainly it's only used to park it and at lights if you don't feel like balancing the bike. As a side note, the 2021 MP3 500 Sport now has reverse!@
For the vast number of riders that don't like or want Harleys, you should have mentioned that "TMW can now convert Honda Gold Wing GL1800s and related models including the Gold Wing Valkyrie and F6B".
Quit judging people. If someone wants to ride a 3 wheeler, it is their life. Different isn't ugly or bad or stupid, it is just not what you want to do, it is different. I just wonder how you miss a rock in the middle of your lane in a corner especially if the rock is slightly inside the center of the lane on a right hand, reduced radius turn....
Absolutely fantastic!!! These could be very nice for beginners. Hey, I might even get one when I'm too old to ride two up? Hmmm, just when you think you have seen everything, something like this comes along??? Keep those knees to the breeze!!!!
Now let’s make a tilting 4 wheel ride. These tricks are great if you have a handicap they allow you to ride and be safe with all the fun of a bike. I think they are great. Next we will have electric drive or a roof or maybe even air-conditioning why not satisfy all the people that want to experience the freedom of leaning into a corner.
Such elitists here, I'm all for anybody on 2 or 3. Some can't or don't want to ride 2 so 3 is a better option for them. It doesn't make them weak or sissies, just makes them not you. We as a community need to be or accepting of anybody who is willing to swing there leg over a death trap whether it has 2 or 3 wheels.
So with the tilting trikes, you initiate a lean with a little countersteering the same as a conventional bike but the spyder, you turn the bars in the direction you want to go?
I still want to see these guys compare these reverse trike options with some traditional trikes like Harley Tri-Glide or Freewheeler or even a Goldwing trike. Would love to hear their comparisons as to handling.
Rear wheel trikes are a totally different ride. Unless the front end has been raked out several degrees the upper body strength to man handle them around a corner is very high. I would give up riding a motorcycle if it had to be a rear three wheeler anything.
Is this boke meant for physically challenge person ? Any idea where one keep crutches ? Is that sturdy and have nice shock absorber for person who have spin problem ???
Change is always coming, that's a reality and these machines are also better placed for future hybrid models, with Spyder in the lead on that ,as the prototype was made years ago 660 and electric, just a 1330 version needed.
Hi there, well to you people that downgrade 3 wheels. If you ever get hurt in your back and you lose your balance at the same time, the 3 wheel is the way to go if you want to ride again!!
Some people act as if they will ban 2 wheeled bikes because 3 wheeled bike exist. Just more toys to play with. road, no road, snow, water all are better then a cage
Both the Harley conversion because of price, and the MP3 because come guys it's a scooter don't do it for me. The Can Am with the bigger engine and overall feature set is the ticket IMHO
Would nice if they made a affordable universal reverse trike kit model to fit any Motorcycle or scooter Not just HD. Can’t ride on two anymore. I have a RYKER but I have a Sportster, and a Hondamatic, front end storage like the Can Am.
I'd get the Motor Works for my 2015 FLHP Road King Police-but not at hat stupid high price. It's not like it is as complicated to manufacture and assemle as a small car and yet it's priced like one. No thanks, not at that price. A good engineer can make a successful design and a cost effective one too!
I'll just throw on my 20 year old $1,200 Velorex Model 562 Side car and be just as comfortable and safe. With the additional capability of being able to carry another passenger or a huge amount of items and clothing. It comes with a rear luggage rack so I can have an additional passenger and additional storage.

At what point is 3 wheel bikes going to be priced the same as regular bikes. Riding a bike is a hobby, not a necessity, unlike my youth when all I had was a bike I could afford.

Nothing wrong riding a trike! I road a Ural for years, I also have a Busa in the garage it's fun to ride something different!
100% agree. I have 6 bikes from a 50cc scooter to a can-am spyder. Everyone makes me smile when I go riding

Can-Am is in the perfect position to develop a leaning trike. I have an MP3 as well as a sport tourer and sport bike. It was 75 degrees in Dallas today and I was out boring holes in traffic. So far, so good...

You lost me at "if somebody drops it". HONESTLY!!!! If you can drop thing, WOW!

i have to wonder how hard could it be to adapt the harley's system to another bike.

so do you guys just watch top gear episodes and copy them episode for episode?
