I'M SO HAPPY to hear that this will be a heavily planted tank with a lot of small fish!! Not kidding, this is the best news in a long time, because a tank like that is something I dream of as well and I get so bored by all people immediately getting those standard huge fish. Many times it feels like people get them just to brag about being able to have big fish, and bragging is always boring.

You guys make planting an aquarium look so easy. I'm struggling with Fluval aquasoil creating very cloudy water, plants refusing to set in stand and having to re-stick them like 500x, did I mention brown cloudy water that aquaclear isn't touching? You guys just wham bam done lol. It looks crystal clear right after and everything haha. I have given up on crystal clear because my wood leeks tannins and well, screw it it's more natural and Bettas like it, plus it softens the water. That's not a battle I'm gonna fight right now. Hoping the cloudiness from the soil settles naturally after attempting to plant.
Rinsing the sand 900000 times until the water mostly ran clear (over 2 hours of rinsing to get here) and well, I'm convinced this is my last time doing sand. It was my first, but also my last xD Maybe extremely course sand.
THis channel is like "wow that looks so relaxing!" but the reality is setting up your first aquarium in 15 years raises your blood pressure, requires you to play at chemist, and costs way more than anticipated. I'm $500 deep and don't even have a fish yet roflol. For a 10 gallon.
Not hating at all, I love the channel, but man. You just make it look easy xD

    • @scrubjay93
      @scrubjay93 6 месяцев назад

Doing things the first time is always hard - you don't know which mistakes might matter! It will get much easier as you go along. Wishing you best of luck! I had a South American fish tank that I deliberately ADDED tannins to. Well, actually a heated indoor stock tank pond... If you want to remove the tannins, a bag of activated charcoal in the filter should do the trick. You can buy it loose and put it into a fine mesh bag or buy it already in a bag ready to drop into the filter.

I’ve been subscribed and enjoying your content and growth for years. It was the nano tanks that got my attention and it is still my favourite part of the hobby thanks to you.
This new tank reminds me of my old 225 gallon six foot tank that I had kitted up like a South American river. It had over a hundred cardinal tetras and was glorious. Had it going for years and then I converted it to an African cichlid tank which was awesome as well.
Now I have nano and a couple of 20 gallon tanks that I tend. It is such a great hobby. And thanks for the breakdown. For such a beautiful build it’s worth it. Like you said, it’s like having a bike or fixing up an old car. Money well spent as it’s great for our mental health.
Take care and hi from Canada!

I couldn’t understand why anybody would have an 8ft aquarium and fill it full of small fish the ND aquatics 1200 litre aquarium I used to have l kept very large SA American cichlids but the way you explained it makes total sense to me and I love the exitement you must be feeling that’s what’s great about this hobby there is something for everybody best of look with the set up

I always admire your work and when it comes to hobbies rather than doing it for subscribers you are doing it for you which should satisfy your quest for a long time. Do it MD we are waiting for that tank to come live.

I love the idea of schools of small fish. If you haven't decided yet, I used to have bloodfin tetras in tinfoil, green, and albino and they schooled separately. It was lovely with only six of each in a 29 gallon tank. I can only imagine what your 'indoor lake' is going to look like!
Thank you for sharing all the steps to creating your dream tank!

Looking forward to this! Also this is your channel and we have watched you grow just as your tanks have. Please do what you want with the builds and stay true to yourself. We love the channel because of what you have done, with Matt of course. Not what others tell you to do. Thank you for bringing us with you!

LOVE this! This is honest and sooo helpful. You’ve been so great through the years. I’ve watched your past material and to see the transformation and your experience come to life is indeed happiness.
You and Matt are fish gurus and I learn so much from you guys all the time. 💪🏾 I’m on my fourth tank now and it’s YOUR FAULT! 😁
I think people love what you do bc you truly love what you do. Art is sure about loving what you do.
And it’s all for yourself at first hand. The rest will follow for sure. Passion! Passion is the word!
I can’t wait to see what this turns out to be.
I’m in little Sweden and the world of aquascaping isn’t as big here so to have you guys to lean on is really great!

Looking good! I look forward to updates with interest. I'm with you on having lots of nano fish in a large tank. If you get a nice school of tetras, you can just start to approach what you'd see in an 8' cross section of a South American river. I'd take a school of 100 cardinals over a monster fish any day. Also, that school of cardinals will still show up nicely from across the room. It can be hypnotic to watch a large shoal behave almost like it's one larger fish.
The backlight at the aquarium shop brought to mind what I'm up to right now. Run a youtube search on DIY aquarium backlights and you can do a nice one with some Amazon LED strip lights and a light diffusing background fairly inexpensively. I just did one on my 4' 75g for around $25 and it looks pretty amazing.
Keep up the great content. This channel is better than about 90% of regular TV out there. Plus, your only agenda is out in the open and plainly stated, and it's to get more people into this wonderful hobby!

Looks amazing. Please make the fish all from 1 continent. Suggest South America. Tetras, small cichlids, corydoras, nice plecos etc.

Now there is one costly but really exciting project coming on! I can't wait to see what you're going to come up with! And to be honest, if I had the opportunity for an 8ft tank, I would do the same; massively planted with a huge community of small fish, possibly a school of angels as the biggest fish in there, and maybe two or three (breeding) couples of small to medium cichlids. A very big tank does not automatically mean you have to have very big fish. You have the option, but it's not an obligation ~_^

Can’t wait for this. It’s funny as when I got my 5ft rainbow tank I was the same as this. Dropped a bomb in aquarium gardens (not your kind of bomb but still a hefty bomb) and I also used wio canyon sand with wio bumblebee stones for detail. You’ll be impressed with the wio stuff looks great in the tank.
If you do do nano fish have a look a few of the smaller rainbow fish. Red neon blue eyes etc. they are stunning and I’m sure would look incredible in a large shoal in a tank that size 👌
