"This tank is almost fully stocked now" Next week on MD Fish tanks, the 16FT aquarium gets delivered! 😁 Phenomenal, beautiful piece of work on this MD. Congrats 👏
I was thinking more like, he buys a house, rips out the insides, waterproofs the whole thing, and uses that as an aquarium, of course planting every square inch in the most beautiful and amazing way. You can see the fish as you walk or drive by simply by looking through the windows. No garden front or back. Just a house turned into a massive fish tank with some truly stunning hardscape and plants. Poor Kate would have to put on diving gear to scrape down the windows.

I don't understand why people would complain about putting a lot of plants in at the start. It's far better to go hard on the plants early on and go extremely slow on adding fish than the other way around. It's perfectly fine to save up for the fish afterwards if you are low on budget.

Well I understand. One pot costs between €4 -8 in my local fish shop. There is a solution though, propagate your own aquarium plants in tubs with soil and some led lights. Like on the excellent RUclips channel Aquarium plant lab. It takes some time and patience but it produces a lot of healthy plants without breaking the bank.

The biggest mistake most people do when starting off a planted aquarium is NOT planting heavily to start! It helps with balancing and getting everything dialed in right away asap. It's the best thing someone can do to when starting off! The people that complain about it are delulu lmao
@@sableknight8061 I totally agree. I work in a pet store. I don't know how many times I've said "Buy more live plants" last month 😅 So many people buy fish, just one or maybe two plants, get a lot of issues and try to buy different types of things to put in the aquarium to get rid of all their problem. But all those things are often some kind of liquid in a bottle that they don't really need. Or they want to buy a pleco. And there I go saying that they should buy something completely different, but the customers do come back again and again and again, so I guess they like what I'm doing.
This has been by far one of the coolest aquariums I've seen you set up. With the addition of the angels it just makes the amazon biotope feeling. Truly amazing!
That’s a thing of beauty. I’d have a couch right in front to watch all the time. You were right about the angels being stunning in the environment. Looks great!
Hey MD, I use the FX6/FX4 filters on aquariums and a very easy mess free way to disconnect them from the hoses is to leave the power on shut the intake hose valve off then fully disconnect the hose. Once that is done then let it bubble for a few seconds then close the outlet valve but DO NOT disconnect this hose until you unplug the power supply. If you follow these steps there will be enough of an air pocket in the top of the canister to allow the lid to be removed mess free. Thanks for another great video you aquarium looks great
To your point about stock, I've experienced the same thing. People love to see tons of colors and activity in tanks. That's what makes your builds stand out. Purist keepers might flinch a bit, but the fish and plants are healthy, and people love the tanks overall - and that's what's most important!
I absolutely agree, plants are so beneficial so I always heavily plant when starting a new aquarium. I know from personal experience my heavily planted 29 gal never had an issue consuming any ammonia and nitrite at lightening speed (unlike my 10 gal with a few slow growing plants). When the plants settled in my 29 I never had an issue with ammonia/nitrite spiking. It makes life so much easier, also the plants are beautiful and watching them grow brings me so much joy (the fish feel safer too so everyone wins!)
Close the inlet and run the FX6 for 5 sec and then unplug and close off the out quickly and you drain some out of the main holding to make cleaning a bit easier, instead of the little drain at the bottom which can be delicate.
That Java fern is going to go berserk. I had some in a c02 tank on top of drift wood like that before and it took over half my tank on accident. The problem is that you cant just trim it like a stem plant or other easy plants to propagate when it turns into a bush like that. You have to find the longer leaves manually and clip those
This is probably my favorite tank that you have ever done. I've dreamed of doing a large planted tank with loads of tiny fish. I love enjoying the hobby vicariously through you! Looking forward to watching this tank mature with you.
absolutely gorgeous! loved all those nice beauty shots at the end, I’d def love a standalone video with some pretty shots and music as a companion to this tank. great work!
Interesting community tank with a complete jungle in it, normally I would say too much plant, but tank is huge and the size balanced out the plant ammount to okay level as it seems. Nice job. ❤
You have taught me so much. Way more than anyone else on You Tube. Just got back into the hobby after 15 years. So much has changed. THANKS AGAIN!! OH!! Really cool tank! (the best) CHEERS!
That is an amazing fish tank. I love what you are doing in your studio. Thanks to you I restarted my own small 38l tank. And I’m happy with it like never before. Thank you!
Love watching plecos feeding on the front of the tanks, we call them out gremlins. I think their underside is more interesting than looking at them from the top
This tank looks amazing! Such good use of all that volume, and so much more captivating than chucking some big arowana or something like that in there!
The angels look super amazing in that tank!!! I have been waiting for this day! The tank is looking super awesome. You are an amazing artist. Thank you!
That size tank is my dream!! I love the variety and quantity of fish in there. Watching your videos made me get back into the hobby a year or so ago, I love the idea of a tank that can look after itself. One of my all-time favourite fish is the Black Ghost Knife Fish, I would love to see you do something for one of those.
Looks incredible. I'm massively jealous. You should get a few freshwater crabs. I just got one with bright red claws. Its fun watching him scuttle around.
Great stuff. That 8 foot is very cool. Maybe a tip for catching out fish. I have a couple of different sizes kitchen cutting boards and use a cutting board to divide the aquarium. Make sure the fish are at the front and catch em out with a net.
This is my dream tank. I'll never be able to put one this big in my house. This turned out so good. Looking forward to updates. Need to do a video of just music and this tank. ❤
Yes, cory's really like to dig. I've added my bandits about a month ago and they shift some sand around for sure. Btw, they've left some eggs in the quarantine tank! Counted four babies in total! They are growing up so fast!
Those angels look so amazing in there, I'll be curious to see how much bigger they'll get with that amount of space, and if they possibly pair off with all the territories they can claim in there. Wouldn't that be awesome!
what a showpiece MD, really highlights how good an aquarium can look with plants most people can grow without Co2 (obviously that helps 😆). this freshwater tank definitely showcases well against home marine setups.
I've been in the hobby for 7 to eight years, I have developed 4 aquariums, and each one is different. When I do research on a fish or plant, I'll watch and read multiple videos and articles. I'll believe the info that is the same from different sources.
I'd never be able to drag my ass away from it I swear it's just a master piece , how therapeutic it is just looking at it . Your defo a fishtank king wear your crown with pride lol 🎉
Beautiful MD! You should do a video on water parameters for planted tanks. It's not very clear in the aquarium world, and I think a video from the master would help!
Keeping that monte carlo trimmed tight is gonna be a beast of a job because of how deep it is. And a beast to clean up the trimmings too. Ahhh 8ft tank problems😂😂😂😂
i know what ur saying about the stocking option being mismatchy and a lot but thats how i like it too 😂 always something to look at, makes it fun to stay in front of the tank and check every little thing out for a long time
Very impressive 😀 great to see the knowledge you have gained over the years has stood you in good stead for setting up the 8 foot aquarium. What a thing of beauty. I also noticed some Michael Jordan vibes in the thumbnail :)
Congrats MD👍 Did a great job in this aquarium👌👌. It looks Fantastic. You are the real inspiration for me and you are the reason i have five tank in my home..
It would be incredibly cool to see one of your three foot tanks planted up and stocked with multiple types of glass fish. Just a bunch of see through fish in different shapes and sizes.
Loved following this build. Outstanding tank that'll grab anybody. One thing I'm keen on knowing though. Are you not worried that the cichlids will eat your shrimps? Keep up the tremendous work!
Your tank looks amazing it's some of the best planting you could do! You will have a hard time to keep everyone from breeding but it would be great to see when they do!!!
Wow! That is something else! It has a sort of saltwater reef vibe, except with freshwater plants and fish. I like that you even have a few killifish at the top. What species are they? They look a bit like really nice Ceylon Killis, and if that's the case, when the male gets his breeding colours in, he'll be a real beauty. An absolute showstopper! The plants, as always, absolutely make the wole thing. I agree that plants are an important part of a freshwater ecosystem. If you have plenty, and if they are the right species of plant, they will keep the water chemistry perfect. For me, really the only maintenance I have in a well planted tank is trimming. I have no use for any extras, and I've flooded the local market, so most of my trimmings end up in the dustbin. It's sad, but what else can you do? I have an FX 6 on my turtle tank. My turtle is much larger than Timmy. He's a softshell, and he loves to dig. digging is his purpose in life. He digs holes so that we don't have to. It makes it impossible to keep plants in his tank. A tank for a turtle his size gets dirty fast. He's a sloppy eater. It does mean that I'm scraping the aquarium a lot, especially under his basking light. Even with all the mess he makes, the FX 6 keeps the water crystal clear. I do have to do frequent water changes because ammonia isn't any better for him than it is for fish, but charcoal in the filter keeps the stink down a bit, plus Fluval make a filter pad for the FX series which also work to keep ammonia down. The FX 6 is the best cannister (best filter even) that I've ever had. Water changes are a snap with it, since you can drain it off from that plug which you pointed out. You can also refill the tank with it if you want, but it seems to me to be just as easy to do it the old-fashioned way, and it doesn't stir up the substrate quite as much, since if you use the filter to refill, it will have a distance to drop. I refill my hillstream loach breeding tank using the filter, and don't worry because that's mostly good sized round rock with only a few plants on the side which are protected by the rocks. The Hs loaches don't mind the water rushing in because they evolved to be in fast flows. I have a spray bar in that tank, and I run the filter at full open to create a strong current for them. I designed in two slack water areas for them and that's were a lot of the breeding sparring takes place. It's kind of fun to watch the males chase each other around in tight little circles as they case each other's tails until one has had enough and swims off. The FX 6 in that tank only gets cleaned twice a year, whereas the one in the turtle tank gets cleaned every other month. The ammonia removing pads have to be changed out every time in the turtle tank, but not nearly as often in the hs loach tank. It's an fantastic tank you've put together, and an absolute show stopper. It has been fascinating seeing it come together step by step, from getting it into the shop and up on it's stand, and all the steps in between until where it is now. It has to be your Magnum Opus to date.
Magnet scrapes of that size can actually break glass, if used in smaller tanks than intended. Also for some reason it makes most fish run, but Angels always stick close to the magnet (I keep Rio Manacapuru variety). Almost nipped a fin few times. 😅 Those angelfish look great, MD! Same the tank overall!

what a showpiece MD, really highlights how good an aquarium can look with plants most people can grow without Co2 (obviously that helps 😆). this freshwater tank definitely showcases well against home marine setups.
Got that AntsCanada thumbnail... Really nice tank MD!
BTW sterbai corys would be beautiful in here
My fav style of community tank. My next will be similar....on a much smaller scale of course. looking forward to it.
I've been in the hobby for 7 to eight years, I have developed 4 aquariums, and each one is different. When I do research on a fish or plant, I'll watch and read multiple videos and articles. I'll believe the info that is the same from different sources.
Absolutely beautiful.😃
Absolutely gorgeous and fascinating to watch!
Thanks MD, I learned so much and owe much of my success with my tanks to you!
Its bloody epic mate ! Best one yet, looking forward to see it grow in and them angels get grown. Keep up the awesome content, got me hooked !
I'd never be able to drag my ass away from it I swear it's just a master piece , how therapeutic it is just looking at it . Your defo a fishtank king wear your crown with pride lol 🎉
The tank is absolutely gorgeous 😍😍
Beautiful MD! You should do a video on water parameters for planted tanks. It's not very clear in the aquarium world, and I think a video from the master would help!
Got my frog! t-shirt today, and I love the little fella!
Lovely video i watched for higher quality on and see this video ❤❤
Keeping that monte carlo trimmed tight is gonna be a beast of a job because of how deep it is. And a beast to clean up the trimmings too. Ahhh 8ft tank problems😂😂😂😂
Absolutely stunning set up mate, well done 👏
i know what ur saying about the stocking option being mismatchy and a lot but thats how i like it too 😂 always something to look at, makes it fun to stay in front of the tank and check every little thing out for a long time
Very impressive 😀 great to see the knowledge you have gained over the years has stood you in good stead for setting up the 8 foot aquarium. What a thing of beauty. I also noticed some Michael Jordan vibes in the thumbnail :)
WOW. What a stunning tank. Congrats
Awesome update, can't wait for Cory's 🙂Going to pop any snails in? The amano's and pleco's did amazing! Such a lovely big tank.
Tank looks amazing fella. If I had the room I would love an 8 footer.
Beautiful scape mate. Thanks for sharing. 😎👊👍🇦🇺

Wow MD this looks phenomenal. Love it ❤❤❤❤❤
Love love love this tank!! So awesome. Gina
It would be incredibly cool to see one of your three foot tanks planted up and stocked with multiple types of glass fish. Just a bunch of see through fish in different shapes and sizes.
Such an amazing tank wow blows me away
This tank is amazing. Thanks for making such s beautiful ecosystem
Love it, looks so beautiful!
The most amazing tank I’ve ever seen… dream tank
Wow, tank looks amazing.
Looks amazing the best tank you have done to date
Oh my goodness you have to put a severum in that aquarium. It would be the PERFECT centerpiece!!!!
Loved following this build. Outstanding tank that'll grab anybody.
One thing I'm keen on knowing though. Are you not worried that the cichlids will eat your shrimps?
Keep up the tremendous work!
Looks fabulous.
"Wary" = on guard, watchful. "Weary" = tired.
Absolutely beautiful ❤
One of the first videos of your's that I watched was the newt setup in the shed, you should definitely consider making another setup for the nostalgia
I like the aquarium just the way it is! beautiful..
Magnet scrapes of that size can actually break glass, if used in smaller tanks than intended. Also for some reason it makes most fish run, but Angels always stick close to the magnet (I keep Rio Manacapuru variety). Almost nipped a fin few times. 😅
Those angelfish look great, MD! Same the tank overall!
Good thing for beginners to know. Magnet scrapers are great but be sure to use the appropriate size. ❤
No spills on your fx6!!!!
Shut the inlet off and wait 5 seconds and shut the outlet off then unplug the cannister.
You wont spill a single drop 🙂👍
