Love getting both perspectives on this. My bride knew I was a collector when we met, but had no idea how big my collection was until later. That being said, when we married she made sure that I had a space for my collection in our home together. Then when we moved, she specifically wanted a place that had enough room for my Toy Tomb. So blessed to share life with someone who may not fully understand why I collect, but knows that it brings me joy & keeps me at home with my family.❤
ive been with my wife since we were 13, married at 20, so weve grown up together and she was there before I was a crazy collector. She was fully supportive when I decided to create my channel!
I’m 14 rn and I can tell you I spoke to a girl at 13 and actually still remember her name after moving 2 years ago. I forgot to ask her number but I will find her once again. Is it possible? :/
I’ve known my partner 10 years and we’ve been together 3. She knew about my hobby and was always a bit wary of it. But our second date she came to stay for the weekend and saw how happy it makes me, she’s a gamer nerd so she knows the look. Her thinking is I’m loyal, I put her needs and our home before toys, I can (and will) sell everything if I need to and it’s not drink or drugs. So she feels more secure than any relationship she’s previously had. As long as you find a girl who gets it, this is a great hobby.
My wife supports my hobby. It sure beats my old life of getting into trouble and going out drinking every weekend. Now she loves how I share this hobby with our son.
I had an ex who told me to be "less of a nerd" so I ended up selling a lot of comics, figures and manga I had collected up until that point. We split a few months later but I was convinced her advice was what I needed to move forward with future relationships. However, shortly after I got back in touch with an old school friend who's also a massive nerd, met some of his friends and realised I was far more comfortable being myself and enjoying what I enjoy than trying to be what other people "think" I should be.

I've been married for 20 years, and together with my wife for 23, and Anna's thoughts about you collecting instead of going to a strip club was always my major barometer when dating. My wife and I both love video games and anime, but she's also super into reading fiction/fantasy novels, while I am a comic nut and figure collector (obviously, as I watch this channel). You can have intermingling interests, but it's also great to have a "me" space for time to be on your own or with like minded friends.
Lovely to see both of you together! Thank Anna! Matt, I like that little quip at the end you slipped in that you don’t necessarily need a bunch of duplicates in your relationship, just a good fit.

The most important part of the article is the Limitations section at the end. "However, our samples skew disproportionately toward women of high social status, high level of education (45% had a Master’s degree in the previous survey), and who are predominately White (> 90% in the last survey)." Seeing how they explicitly cross-reference the results of previous surveys, I can only conclude that the sample is based on regular visitors to the site. 45% of the responders having a master's degree suggests that the target audience is, on average, rather mature. Basically, the article reflects the preferences of middle-aged women who frequent dating psychology websites (so are most likely single).
My girlfriend, soon to be fiancé, took me to a locally owned toy store for our 1 year anniversary and bought me some pretty highly sought after Marvel Legends. She’s amazing. Proposing in October!
We were on our second official date (we had hung out a lot that summer already) when I told the woman who is now my wife that I collect SW action figures and I am an avid SW EU reader. My wife doesnt mind my collection at all but she has certain rules which i completely understand. One of them is to make sure i have room. If i run out of room i have to sell or get rid of figures and other items to make room especially since we need space due to her being pregnant with our kids (twins). The other rule is to spend only when everything else is taken care of. All baby clothes, bills, food, baby products and other expenses are top priority, and after that i can spend for my collection. So she absolutely does not mind it at all as long as im responsible and our family is always the priority
She sounds pretty awesome as these things all pretty much go without saying, especially the thing about let's please pay bills first and make sure the kid has clothing and food.
I could absolutely see Nerdy being on max volume at all times after a few drinks. I think confidence (not arrogance!) plays a big factor in attractiveness of hobbies. And of course whether it is a healthy or unhealthy habit. Mrs. Nerdy had great advice - except on the 🍁 and 🍑🍆 - so pay attention and be yourself folks. You’re worth it! 👍🏼
My wife bought me all of my most expensive collectibles. Stuff I normally would feel hesitant to spend that much on. She is not only a toy collector enabler, but she's half the reason why my collecting got as big/serious as it has! Lol!
I didn’t start collecting action figures or reading comics until probably 10 years after I met my wife. Now those are my favorite hobbies. God bless her for putting up with me 😂😅.
I've been married to my wife for 14 years. We've been together for 18 years total. How I got lucky is beyond me. We have nothing in common, but we love and support each other. She accepts my collecting hobby for the same reasons Anna stated: She'd rather I collect toys than spend money going to a strip club, gambling, drinking, or doing drugs (none of those thing I do). She won't admit it, but she is a bit geeky herself. She has "claimed" parts of the collect as her own. She knows the difference between Marvel and DC. She has her own Funko Pop collection. I even did a whole video on her Grogu collection.
I'm more of a comic book guy but my wife is totally understanding about it and encourages me! I'm truly blessed to have her! Also your wife is awesome! Have her on more often!
Great video. I have a question when will you have the Haslab Star Wars vintage collection Razor crest because I don’t want to pay 500-100 dollars to pay for a 350 ship
I got pretty lucky, my wife was a nerd before me too, though I never would have guessed it right away, she seemed too cool. Turns out she read a lot of The Walking Dead, I was an X-Men guy. She collected Beanie babies, and now funko and Squishmallows, I collect action figures. We're both big into gaming, we love MMORPGs, but we have our differences there too. It's great because we're in to the same types of things while not having been into the exact same thing. We get to enjoy things together while having our own distinct tastes too. I'll admit though, she kind of hates my action figures, but mostly because she thinks displays should be less is more, and I think more is more. :D
My wife encourages and loves me having hobbies like collecting. She doesn’t like me going overboard on some lines, but overall she’s very accepting of it.
I know that I am absolutely lucky having married the woman that I did. Not only does she encourage my video game hobby, but she's nurtured my figure collection like you wouldn't believe! She's added several figures, bought me statues, and she even got me 2 glass encased display shelves. Whenever she has her friends come over for the first time, she has them go down into The Den and look around because she thinks it's the coolest thing ever! 😊 Before I got married, I had a roommate. Which means that if I wanted privacy, we had to go to my room... which had my entire collection on display! So it was impossible to hide it from my dates. Although they never looked down on me for it. I actually had one get all excited and exclaim, "It's like a museum in here!"
all the way up until I was in my 30s, my mom would always attempt to shame me, she would say, you will never find a wife if you keep collecting toys because no woman would want a husband who collects toys. Contrary to what she said, I have never had issues finding relationship. I have been very lucky so far, I am very upfront with my collecting hobby, my attitude is, this is part of what I do, if you don't like it, there is the door. And so far, no problem, I don't have a wife, but that's not because I don't have a relationship, if that I am not into marriage that's all
and what's really funny is that most of the women I'm friends with are more hardcore into cosplay than I am. and one thing I have noticed is that yeah, women are usually like "meh" when you tell them you collect figures, but for some reason they become a bit more interested if you also do toy photography.
My wife of soon 25 years first meet at a Vampire the masquerade LARP (Live Action Roll Play). We used to play D&D with our friends (she still begs me to run a game but I have no interest in running one). She got us matching jedi robes for SW3. She has read some of my comics but very few. And calls my action figure collection "My Little Friends. So I have to say I am one of the lucky ones with my catch.
I date another collector, neither of us are girls but I have many many friends who are girls and are also all collectors. Girls collect dolls, plushies, statues, funkos, etc and some even collect action figures. Me and my bf both collect figures and I collect dolls. We both read comics. We love scifi. Date a fellow nerd and you’ll never know a more fulfilling love haha Edit: my own mother collects dolls! My grandmother did! Also your wife is soooo pretty I love her!!
I told my wife immediately when we started dating that I collect Transformers at that time. Turns out, she had a crush on Prime even before she met me. She still does.
I've been with my girlfriend for 8 years oddly enough she thought my collecting was cool. My girl says the same thing Big Nerdy rather have me buying figures then going out or anything else. Plus it makes me happy. If anyone judges you for what makes you happy then maybe not the one for you.
My doesn't mind my action figures / toys, but doesn't care about it. As long as I pay the bills. But when I was in my 20s and single, I didn't have a lot of $$$ for collecting toys / figures a reality... and lived in small apartments. But I did have a couple boxes of Toybiz Marvel figures, but put them in closet when I was dating in my 20s. After marriage, she didn't care.
I was the odd one out in a triangle. She looked at my 12" G.I.Joes meticulously displayed in a curio and called them toys. It didn't last long. She went back to her old man. I was lucky.
Well, my late wife married me when I owned a Mom and Pop Comic Book Store. And she collected Barbies, and didn't mind that I collected Action Figures after my son aged out of them.
People, don't hide *you* . Energy attracts energy. If she finds you a turn off cause of what you love, move on to someone who embraces it. That simple.
Women look down on you for collecting until they find out you have something that's worth money and then they want you to sell it and spend the money on them. I had girls ask me why I collect comics and action figures, I tell them it's an investment. But never sell anything.
Ive dated some of the most beautiful women throughout college, they never cared that i collected figures. Specially when you explain the connection you have to it all. Its ljke a museum
I don't think having similar hobbies is a good idea. I've been happily married for 23+ yrs and I like playing music, action figures, and comics. My wife enjoys baking, haunted houses and ghost hunting. It should be a thing you like so you can have space to be you. 😁👍
It's extremely rare that you will find a woman that collects action figures...I've seen one looking for the Walgreens Exclusive Fantastic 4 Thing, but truthfully most women think it's childish and a waste of time, unless they are deep into nerd culture, but then again those are usually younger girls that are into anime. I'm an aspiring Concept Artist for games and film who wants to pivot into designing for collectibles, and I dated someone who thought it was childish..she was Bipolar anyway so that didn't work out. It is hard to tell someone you want to date that you are a collector, but I've seen the rare few who have an entire family that don't mind...Cincy Nerd is the first that comes to mind.
Lot of great comments about other couples. Maybe another video? I'm woman who loves Transformers and I figured by age 28 1/2 that I will never find anyone. I collect toys especially but love cartoons and other "geek" stuff. I meet my husband at age 29 and got married one year later. He so won me over. He plays Pathfinder and online games. We enjoy board games together and enjoy many other similar things. Been married 20 years
Its all about your personality and looks... if you meet someone and they are into you then just get to know them. Your hobbies aren't your life, so its not something you need to bring up immediately. After a few dates and they get to know you then bring it up. After someone has started to like you they probably wont ghost you because they dont like your hobby
Hilarious video. In conclusion you're Big Nerdy but Mrs Nerdy is definitely Boss Nerdy.Btw I got back into collecting after meeting my partner. She's totally not into it but was happy for me.
Part of the problem with the studies like this though is the sample pool. WHAT women were responding right? So you wind up with a very narrow pool of people in general for most of these kinda things. I mean I am still single but there are reasons behind that (heavy life burdens placed upon me that ate up my time). But yeah, most polls are borderline useless as a data analysis tool. It would be different if the place went in to say 100 unique locations, got a large data set, and then presented findings after requiring every person in there to participate. Instead you just get a lot of like minded people that want voice their opinion and they tend to be the unhappy people. So the list doesn't surprise me in any way.
I stopped collecting once I got to college during Y2K where I met my wife. I’ve only recently started again during the pandemic. So basically I’m motivated by world impacting events.
I actually find it a bit surprising that toy collecting is still considered an unattractive hobby given the popularity of comic book movies and given how many women have gotten into cosplay.
I was so worried my dates would hate my toys I sold all of them. Now I'm married to someone who also collects and we have a whole basement full! Could not be happier! Definitely find someone who "gets" you!
I got my wife into magic and my oldest gives me a reason to keep buying it she is fine with my collecting even though I have to many but is very supportive in everything I do but hey I have two babies born on May 4th so they are my Irish twins so we run a big nerd house and love every minute of it along with all the board games we play and yes we even do family cos plays jedis and Jedi younglings lol great stuff love this video
My wife and I have been together for 20 years now. She's fine with me collecting action figures AND will go with me to a strip club. Lately, she's been trying to enable me to get my collectibles when I'm hemming and hawing about not spending money. Also, this past weekend, we went to our first lifestyle party in about 3 years. Our plan to to hit a strip clib if it ended up being a bust. We are very happy and secure in our relationship. Congrats to everyone else here who is as well. 😃
I personally know at least 2 to 5 times as many women that cosplay than men who cosplay. So u don't think that's a male/female thing. Either you are into it or not, but even before i got into (my gf dragged me to my first con), i always thought people into cosplay were interesting. I just wore super hero t shirts or Star wars T-shirts to my first several cons.
Fun video! Makes me wonder what the data says about what hobbies men generally find unattractive in women. For me, watching tons of reality TV would be up there. 😁

She sounds pretty awesome as these things all pretty much go without saying, especially the thing about let's please pay bills first and make sure the kid has clothing and food.
Great video. Loved it. Love watching your channel. Keep up the great work. Both of you!🤘🤘🤘 NERD LOVE!!!!!
I'm a cosplay pottery enthusiast . Nothing beats or compares to pottery! 😂❤ Except the lottery 💯
My wife bought me all of my most expensive collectibles. Stuff I normally would feel hesitant to spend that much on. She is not only a toy collector enabler, but she's half the reason why my collecting got as big/serious as it has! Lol!
Great vid - interesting insights 👍
Just as an FYI: My wife and I could be more different from each other but those differences are what help us navigate our way. Tks for the video. :-)
I didn’t start collecting action figures or reading comics until probably 10 years after I met my wife. Now those are my favorite hobbies. God bless her for putting up with me 😂😅.
My wife and I are both collectors, so it was a match made in heaven.
My ex loved that I collect action figures. When I expressed that I might sell my collection, she was genuinely concerned.
Great topic and probably one of the best dating advice videos I’ve seen. Great job!!
And you lucked out with your wife.
Great Video with Mrs. Nerdy. Not many RUclipsrs would do a video with their wife. Loved the video.
Awesome video as always, it was nice to see Mrs Nerdy. Love you both! Your # 1 fan in the the Philippines. NWO for life!
Before I got married, I had a roommate. Which means that if I wanted privacy, we had to go to my room... which had my entire collection on display! So it was impossible to hide it from my dates. Although they never looked down on me for it. I actually had one get all excited and exclaim, "It's like a museum in here!"
More videos with her opinions. Love it
I like this! It is a nice break from real life. Thanks
all the way up until I was in my 30s, my mom would always attempt to shame me, she would say, you will never find a wife if you keep collecting toys because no woman would want a husband who collects toys.
Contrary to what she said, I have never had issues finding relationship. I have been very lucky so far, I am very upfront with my collecting hobby, my attitude is, this is part of what I do, if you don't like it, there is the door. And so far, no problem, I don't have a wife, but that's not because I don't have a relationship, if that I am not into marriage that's all
what size are the obi wan and luke figures from behind ?
and what's really funny is that most of the women I'm friends with are more hardcore into cosplay than I am. and one thing I have noticed is that yeah, women are usually like "meh" when you tell them you collect figures, but for some reason they become a bit more interested if you also do toy photography.
Date a fellow nerd and you’ll never know a more fulfilling love haha
Edit: my own mother collects dolls!
Im so happy I don't have a girlfriend, I can collect in peace,
Great advice great video 👏👏👏👏👏
More Anna please. She adds so much to your dynamic.
After marriage, she didn't care.
bills first... and then figures... And then left with petrol money for 2 weeks before payday
😂
It's always awesome to see Mrs. Nerdy. Such a nice lady.
Thank you for making this.
I've been collecting since before I met my wife. In fact, she bought me my first Millennium Falcon (POTF2)
I don't think having similar hobbies is a good idea. I've been happily married for 23+ yrs and I like playing music, action figures, and comics. My wife enjoys baking, haunted houses and ghost hunting. It should be a thing you like so you can have space to be you. 😁👍
11:51 love it!! More Anna and Matt vids! 🤙🏽
Wife and I both collect, just different things, some line up though. I support her interests and for the most part she supports mine.
Before I met my wife I always kept my collection on the DL until after we sealed the deal. I never hid my general neediness though.
I think I told my wife pretty early in our relationship. She thought it was cute.
Been married 20 years
I would tell her that I collect action figures as a hobby maybe after the 2 or 3 date, but that just depends on the situation.
You two are super fun 🤩
I collect comics and I make comics. Guess that explains why I'm women repellent!
I actually find it a bit surprising that toy collecting is still considered an unattractive hobby given the popularity of comic book movies and given how many women have gotten into cosplay.
Well my toys are my living room decoration. And my toys have seen stuff that happens with dates in my living room.
I was so worried my dates would hate my toys I sold all of them. Now I'm married to someone who also collects and we have a whole basement full! Could not be happier! Definitely find someone who "gets" you!
I want to know what rocks they looked under to find that many women that hate cosplay and anime.
What a different but entertaining video 😂
I changed my entire life for my wife, then she left after a decade. Moral of the story, be very, very careful what you'd give up for a spouse.
Cool video. My wife and I collect figures, comics, and the same films. We have been together for 23 years. I guess I found the unicorn. Lol
I have an crazy action figure collection......and I NEVER had problems with women.......
The collecting hasn't necessarily helped but it certainly hasn't hurt any of my chances.
Your wife is awesome! Thanks for the fun vid. I'd agree that if you can't share everything that you love with them they are not the one.
I'd prefer more videos with you both, you're so cute together! ☺
Great video.
I believe toy collecting does limit a man's options in women, but we chose this path, so we'll have to deal with it in a positive way.
My wife admires my figure collection because of the joy and happiness it brings me and supports it 💯💯
This was a fun one, Mrs. Nerdy is adorable
Haha love this vid! My girl don’t like my toys but admires my dedication to it
Fun video! Makes me wonder what the data says about what hobbies men generally find unattractive in women. For me, watching tons of reality TV would be up there. 😁
