  • In this episode I go over the vehicle state inspection procedure for Virginia on this 99 Toyota Avalon. See why it fails. While this doesn't apply to all states it is a good reference to put anyone on the right path to a safe vehicle.

    I just moved from NC to SC where there are no state auto inspections.As soon as I bought my SC home, I went to the SC DMV to change my NC plates to SC plates. I no longer have to worry about auto inspections.

    If your battery is damaged try rolling down your electric windows! Drivers and passenger headrest pull out and have point ends on the metal post, that to be used incase you need to break your side windows, but no one tells you that.

    After a car is 25 years or older, Texas doesn’t require any more inspections. Wonder if Virginia is the same?

      Yes. In a way. In Virginia you have to have antique plates or otherwise have it registered as an antique (25 years or older) and then you are not required to inspect.

      @@JunkMissions that’s interesting, being antique I’m sure there some mileage requirements. I get more nervous every year hoping that check engine light doesn’t come on right before inspection.

      I hear ya. Yes there are mileage limitations. I asked a dmv agent once how they enforce it. Literally got no answer. All he said was just try to avoid driving it towards the end of the month when most quotas come due.

    How does window tinting come into play for inspection?

    • @JunkMissions
      @JunkMissions  2 года назад

      Honestly not sure on that one. I've never had anything tinted that wasn't that way from the factory. At one time it had something to do with the tint percentage. Virginia has come off of a lot of its restrictive inspection laws. Tint that comes standard on some new vehicles would have gotten you failed before you got in the door when I was in high school.

      @@JunkMissions When I was in NC, they would charge me $10 extra on the auto inspection for tint. It had to be 35% or above.

      I’m a state inspector, if your front windshield has tint that goes beyond the AS-1 line or if the entire front windshield is tinted, you must have sun-shading permit on your registration card at the time of inspection, if you don’t have that permit on the registration card or if it cannot be provided at the time of inspection, the tint fails, if you have tint on the rear glass and it does not have a cut out for the third brake light, it fails inspection, does not matter what percent tint it is
