His passing didn't feel real at first. He has such an impact on our childhood that I began to think, "guys like him gotta be here at least 100 years." As a kid I never thought a cartoon would impact my adult life as it does. I'm grateful that his wife and two kids got to mourn in silence, I'll say a prayer for them. Thank you, grandpa Akira Toriyama.

My first games I have memories of playing were Tekken, MK and Budokai way back on ps2 when I was like 3 or 4.
Playing Dragonball games, watching DragonBall, all that filled my childhood. Hell I was so into the series that not only did I watch the original Z and Kai, I had the dvd sets for Z bought, all the movies, GT's dvds etc, and I've watched through everything dragonball so many times over the years its crazy.
And even besides watching Dragonball, most of my favorite series wouldnt exist without the influence of DB. Its one of the few series that as a kid in the early 2000s, you weren't a nerd for watching. Back then anime was "weird and cringe", but ask anyone in your school and they've all watched dragonball, it was truly a ubiquitous series, and so important to everyone that even world leaders are commenting on the passing of Akira Toriyama, its crazy

Got to see Goku turn super saiyan when it first aired on Toonami. For the longest time we had the VHSs my Dad used to record the Frieza saga because he worked at frito lay and would miss the episodes some days because of overtime. DBZ budokai was my first DBZ game also than the legacy of goku games. DBZ will always have a special place in my heart man.

I remember back in the late 90s like only me and a couple other kids at my school even watched dragon ball z. Then as we went through school we saw more people. Saw kids in costumes for Halloween. Then the games. It was such a warm feeling every time i saw more people who found joy in Dragon Ball. Fast forwarding to now it's mind blowing how many people he reached. I always knew Toriyama and his work was special but back in the day it felt like everyone else was missing out. Now i just smile knowing tons of people were impacted in similar ways as me and my friends. Dragon Ball really molded us in ways Toriyama probably didn't intend but i just hope the Lord above just gives that man the pen for a day. Even he might be shocked ❤️

Awesome video man. And the games were a huge part for me too growing up. Kind of a long story but I figured I’d share too. My mom (rest in piece, she recently passed away) worked at a movie rental place when I was in elementary school and the owner was like family to us. And as I got a little older he would always get new games to put out for rent and let me try them out to see if they were good for him to carry more for the store, and he also knew how big I was into dragon ball cause there were summers or days off school I’d go to the video store with mom and sit in the office watching vhs of the series and movies. Well he ended up getting 2 copies of budikai in and told me one was mine to keep just for always helping out around the store and trying games out for him and that was my very first dragon ball game. And as the series grew him or mom would get me the follow ups and I loved it. I wish I still had my original copies cause they meant so much to me. But thank you to both you lotus and of course to toriyama I hope he rests in piece. I truly believe that man is the reason most of us got into anime here in the states and he will be missed. To anyone who reads this thank you 🙏🏻 ❤️ would love to read any stories you guys have too.

Man, there's a lot of emotions around this one. I think that quote from Toriyama to Nozawa really hits it on the head. We all need "to take care of Goku." DragonBall meant so much to all of us, and it sounds like it meant a lot to Toriyama as well. I hope he and his family knew just how well loved his creations were by so many millions of people. It might have been a goofy story about a magic space alien monkey man, but that story meant something. Toriyama's art and his words and the messages of his character mattered so much to so many little kids and adults in the world.
He was an inspiration and a literal legend. Legends never really die, they just get to be passed down to the next generation. Now, its up to all of us to take care of Goku.

He transformed the landscape of manga and anime, leaving an indelible mark on fans and creators worldwide. His artistry ventured beyond the pages, breathing life into characters that became icons of courage, friendship, and perseverance. As we reflect on his legacy, let us remember the worlds he crafted - a universe of endless possibilities where hope prevails, and heroes rise. In every stoke of his pen lay a testament to his genius, a legacy that will continue to inspire and entertain generations to come. Rest in peace, Akira Toriyama. His story, like the eternal dragon Shenron, has granted countless wishes and dreams, making our world a little brighter with the magic of his creation." - Dove The Winged Warrior 🕊

This is crazy. I’m very saddened at the fact that DBZ was a huge part of my life growing up even though I wasn’t watching it like that until years later, I was more of a Naruto fan, But Dragon Ball in general is the whole grandfather of all the animes out there. Without DBZ, we wouldn’t have One Piece, Naruto, Final Fantasy, and more. Toriyama impacted many lifes with his hard work. the games, music, art, merchandise, and many more things. We all wouldn’t have been able to see all of this if it wasn’t for him. RIP Toriyama, thank you for inspiring me and others to stay strong and push forward.

Akira toriyama has touched so many people it's insane to achieve this amount of influence. You see people working out to dragon ball music and crowding movie theaters when super was active. All of my close friends love dragon ball, we all connect on it deeply and have random debates all the time. He has inspired so many people and media. His impact will be remembered for ages and I'm thankful for his work. Rip Akira toriyama
Wow this video made me smile so much and I normally don't react much when watching stuff. All that to say I related a lot to this. Dragon Ball was one of the first anime I watched and it even got me into art. I don't draw much anymore but I used to draw dbz characters then Naruto along with other random stuff. Dragon ball Budokai was the first dragon ball game I played and I can say I loved every second I spent on that game back then. I would spend endless hours on each dragon ball budokai game on PS2 (except infinite world). I may now even go back and read the entire manga. If anyone spent the time to read me rambling about myself thank you.

I was playing dragon quest monsters the Dark Prince when I heard the news of his death. DQM, the dark prince, is now my all-time favorite DQM game. I also downloaded the PS5 version of fighterz last night and played a couple of rounds. I've watched almost everything in Dragon Ball except the original series. I had been holding off on watching it for a special occasion, I guess now is as good a time than ever

Great video man. You really painted the picture well of how this franchise was integral to your life. Loved the story about you winning at bingo and that's how you got your copy of Budokai 2. Almost every man under the age of 40 has these stories, and memories with Dragonball during our childhood. I struggle to think of a person more singularly impactful in the world of media, truly the top of the pile along with Disney and that's about it. This quiet humble man shaped the world in impossible ways exclusively for the better.

    He’ll never really die.
    Not really.
Thank you for sharing bro, it’s nice to hear the familial fandom connection that we all share.

Me and my boy was on Fortnite when he told me and I hadn’t been on social. I legit had to take a moment and no celeb death has ever made me feel anything. I didn’t cry my eyes out but it def made me feel a way. Having a stranger have that kinda impact on your life is wild and amazing. Thank you.
