When you see it making Quattros and 4wd 911's look ordinary, you know it was something special. It's all well and good having an engine that makes 6-700 bhp, but if you can't get the traction to put it all on the slippery floor, it's a waste of time.
@@thesushifiend He mentions it' as an Xtrac Gartrac and Zackspeed car at 0:55 and also very briefly as an Escort at 1:17. Murray Walker was always very particular in mentioning the cars engineering pedigree in his commentaries. Such was the ubiquitous sight of the MK3 Escort on British roads in the early 80s - to the untrained eye the very modest appearance of Schanches weapon - shod on its 13 inch tyres and very subtly pumped up wheelarches and rear spoiler - it just looked like a stickered up Xr3 compared to the Hugely winged and modified Porsche's and Quattros it left in its wake. As it was the most popular selling car in Britain at the time and Ford really didn't need any extra publicity - especially on the BBC and also because the car was solely derived from Schanches own ideas, to call the car just a 'Ford Escort' in the commentary would have been doing it and Schanche a bit of an injustice.
@@TheUltimate65 Was just a little joke based on the fact that they had a song with the same name as your comment and there was some Scandinavian commonality with the subject of the video, but I guess I shouldn't have bothered as it seems to have gone waaaaay over your head.
Schanches Xtrac Gartrac Zackspeed Escort is one of the most sensational motorsport cars ever created. Fantastic 👍👍
It was so ahead of its time
