@@LiuQingHai Well that's not entirely accurate, when playing fast you need to adjust your mechanics that will allow for fast playing possible. Because the mechanics for playing the licks slow aren't the same as playing the licks fast
Lick #1: when alternate picked is Eric Johnson's bread and butter. Lick #2: 80's rock staple (Maiden, Priest). Lick #4: Gary Moore's go-to. Lick #5: Steve Vai (and Billy Sheehan)-style descending lick. These are killer flavors for anybody's tool box! Thanks for the video and great work! Best from the S.F. Bay! MK
@@mksounds6326 I agree. I’ve used economy picking for ages because that was how I started playing without knowing what it was called. It was just a way for me to be able to play what I used to find difficult. Didn’t even know it had a name until fairly recent years 🤣
Thanks David. In all the years I've been playing guitar I've only ever learnt covers and saw scales and music theory confusing. I didn't even know the importance of the pentatonic scale and the use of it being the skeleton of every mode. I'm now jamming all over the neck and I'm confident and concious of exactly what notes I'm playing, and why they sound the way they do. I'm glad guys like you do this because there's nothing more satisfying than picking up a guitar and saying exactly what you intend to. Thanks.. No more covers for me. Just fun improvs
@@LeftyGuitarBlues I kind of agree, but when you are low - mid level guitar there will be a turning point where you realise you can start doing or at least trying to do those things. After it becomes part of your routine you're on the right path
@@cameronmason4452 I know, I'm actually at that point now, as I could already do all the licks shown in the video I just wouldn't consider them "easy". I feel like what is considered easy now is way different then what was considered easy 10-15 years ago.
Love the tone you use on these tutorials. Would you be able to find the time to maybe give some idea of how to create a tone like this using amp & cab fx modellers..?
Not sure what you’re using, but a pretty decent starting point would be find an amp that you like. Start with the amp slightly broken up. Add an overdrive at medium gain and add reverb and delay. Play with it until you like it. That’s where I would start anyway. 🤣
For that tapping lick, I'm working on walking up and down through all the different pentatonic positions. Even combining different fragments for modal changes. Just one simple pattern can blow your mind on the guitar.
The thing I find frustrating is how many RUclips lick "lessons" focus only on the fret hand movements and ignore the picking patterns. Without explanation of the picking movements, they're pretty useless. Nice job.
David, when you say "Easy"...in what context do you mean? Are you teaching at professional guitar player level here? Thanks for the videos and the great content you put out. Namaste x
been following your channel for years now. learned a lot. this lesson is great too. just a request. if you can make video on Descending sixteenth note blues licks. specially when you want to close down a phrase. for instance john mayor, matues asato do these steps a lot. but it would be great to learn the process. so that we dont have to depend on licks.
Lol. Easy? It took me half a year to get sweep picking down when I first started doing it. And I can still only play very specific patterns. But it’s good exercise.
Here I am again - your lessons are addicting and by the way thanks for introducing that guitar. I am on the market for another one. Anyway, I should be writing my essay but here I am ? Last video for a while - comment on ya L8r. See u soon my friend...
I mean you could tap that final lick....or you could just use three finger pull offs. I don’t usually use tapping unless I physically can’t do it all with my left hand. But to each his own...

these are the hardest easy licks I've ever tried to learn
Lmao

lol okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one
Keep practicing as slow as you need to in order to play it correctly. The speed will come later, don't give up.

Eric Johnson uses economy picking when hitting odd notes rather than alternate picking 😊
@@Migler1 For me the economy picking is easier than the alternate picking. And I grew up playing thrash metal in the Bay Area.

I swear lick 2 and 4 are both in randy rhoads guitar solo on "Mr Crowley" 🤯
@@Migler1 Best for going to the next string either descending or ascending. Eric Johnson knows.
I've said it before, your right hand technique is a thing to behold! Love your teaching.
Great teaching and playing, and KILLER tone.
Beautiful licks as always. Thanks for this. The tapping will be a challenge. Never done this before.
Congrats my friend! Awesome skills you have there. I'm a begginer and I know it will take me some time to be able to play these licks
Thank you David, you are an awesome teacher man.
This is my first time watching your vids..
I like your phrasing before the fast licks.. so tasty
Very helpful...
Thanks so much I was in a guitar funk rutt and this has helped break it by giving me something new to practice
Excellent ideas! I needed these licks to “freshen up” my playing. I really appreciate it. 🔥🙏🤘👍
That intro was fire! and I am a metal guy, no idea what genre that is but I am in!
I love everything about it
Awesome!! Tks, I'm begginer and I was looking for licks.

Thank you so much!
Very lovely guitar.
Great lesson, man! Thanks.
Very cool. Thanks. I'm going to have to spend some time to try to get these happening!
Really nice stuff as always David
'easy' and one of the exercises features sweep picking.
How long do you play guitar?
Not long enough for sweep picking and tapping licks to be considered "easy".

good beginner who can pull this stuff off.
which backing track is that?
what s the pedal used for those sustains and sound?

What's your guitar name
I just looked at the first lick. My pick keeps getting trapped. What is the picking pattern?
After watching on a computer screen, instead of my phone, I think I got it. Up, up, down, up, up, down. It is economy picking. Right?
Hope that I could have one of your guitar so that I can be a great guitarist.. I just doing your lesson on my old acoustic guitar😅😅😅
you just need any electric guitar and some overdrive, reverb or echo to sound good
Im a complete begginer, but I was able to learn this just because it had a word "easy" in the title. Now Im almost a guitar god.
Great, Thank you ... Backing Track download link Please?
Thank you!

How did I miss this channel for years???!!! Sub'd IMMEDIATELY! 👍
Hi David, I love that guitar sound and I suppose it comes from the Axe FX3. Could you please tell me which patch you use ?
Patches dont mean a damn thing..Learn how to play. Hendrix and Stevie ray never had any computer nonsense.. you dont need it.

Good. More licks of repetition. Like de N°2. Thanks.
Any advice on how I can get this sound in my DAW?
I also would like to know
im stuck on the first one
