The beauty of a drum is that the crap is expelled at least once an hour, as opposed to any other filter where the rubbish is sitting in the filters for who knows how long until they're cleaned therefore has to be better for water parameters, namely tds and phosphates which I'm sure a lot of people don't test for, but are mportant water parameter in my opinion. I hear people slate drums, saying to many parts to go wrong, I think that is just sour grapes, my synergy has been running faultlessly since Sept 2017, and still on original screen, a quick jet wash or paint on white vinegar every 3 months or so is all that's needed. Have fun with your drum Steve, best thing I done to the pond, that and ashp, YOU WILL SUCCUMB and get one.
Many thanks for making this video. As you say, they are an eye watering amount of money to buy, and I want to get the right one for my new build. I need to pay Queni a visit soon
Hi Steve glad your pleased with the drum and it's doing what it should, very informative video you make it sound so easy when you no what your doing and not making jigsaws Dave and I still laughing today ,so grateful of your help yesterday ,relax and enjoy x
Just come across your videos and having watched this drum video I can back up all that you have said. I also have a QK22 drum and been running 4yrs now and it’s been faultless and the best money I have ever spent. Great video well done
I finally got time to watch this anticipated review of your drum unit, I really appreciated it Steve as it was an interesting and informative review, it would make my life easier over the two pressure filters I have that don't take out the finer particles, so at 75microns and seeing your beautiful clear pond this is a solution for me ,thanks for this video mate .
Hi Steve, sorry I missed your video, I still don't get any notifications of new videos from RUclips. Great info on the drum mate, should help a lot of people. Take care, Terry.
I've wanted a drum for a year or 2. The cost has been the only reason that has put me off. Having said that, as you suggested the DIY filter system I put together does work for me, but with a caveat. The first stage comprises a vortex that has Japanese matting to catch some of the fines as well as the larger particles. Unfortunately, this requires cleaning at least once if not twice a week with a pressure washer. Although it only takes 5 minutes, the problem is that the muck and gunge has already been building up for a few days. In that time bad bacteria grows and in all probability gets into the pond and has the potential to infect the fish. So for me at least, its not about making my life easier (which I would like anyway :O) I would like one to help to keep the fish healthy. Great video by the way. Keep em coming!!
Hi Steve, aka Slippers, thanks for doing this video, I'm sold, doing three different shift patterns I'm struggling with cleaning my multi bay filter more than twice a week in the summer, I've added a tempest to my wall skimmer and got rid of the small compact filter which I believe was harboring nasties, as I was stripping that three times a year, what a pain, I think this type of filter is what I need, I have been of for a while lol recovering from an op on my arm, I've added a water system to the filter house at last and being of, back soon oh nooooo, I've had time to clean the multi bay more and improving my system, so as I've told everyone on this earth, even those that are not into koi, I'm gonna get one soon lol, now do the three censor prongs look after thereselves once water level is achieved if that makes sense. Cheers Steve great video.
Thanks Steve showing us your filter made up your happy with the filter am more old school have knockey 8 Bay Japanese brushes Japanese matting alfgrog filter keeps my 6500 gallon pond gin clear but I don't mind clearing filter out but people want easy life good luck mate 👍
Nice and Neat, works a treat....You're poet and didn't know it! Steve a comprehensive overview of the drum, very well explained, sit back and enjoy your pond, your drum will do almost the rest. Haven't looked back getting mine, best investment for a koi pond. 🍺
It is a good rdf. So it should be because of its price. With your background knowledge ie electrician why didn't you build one like wright's?. You would have build a good one. I am going to have go soon.
Great vlog Steve. The drum is a cracking piece of kit, but a bit out of my budget lol. It would be a waste of money in my small pond anyway. Great review and hope it lasts you. Thanks for sharing 👍🐟
I know you said you had made up your mind on placing the UV light on the "dirty" side of the filter, but ,,, I'd urge you to reconsider. A UV should absolutely and positively be placed behind all other filtration near the output of the filter. The issue is one of the ability of the light rays to penetrate the water to intercept microbes and not get absorbed in suspended dirt. UV effectiveness is easily affected in that way and that is why you have to periodically wipe off the glass housing and keep water as clear as possible. Good luck.
Totally totally understand what you are saying and absolutely agree with you however burning my screen for the sake of correct positioning won't be happening. Stay safe
Very informative steve. Everything is looking good. I am going to go for a drum when I build my pond. How much did your fibreglass cost from matt mate??
Cheers Mark. Every fibre glass job is costed on its own merits. Forgive me but I won't be divulging the fibreglass costs. Matt is the guy to speak to. Cheers mate
@@CATANDEYEKOI no problem Steve was just looking for a rough guide as I'm hoping to build a 4500-5000 gallon pond myself but I won't try doing the fibreglass. I'll try to find matts number. Cheers mate.
Hi i have been watching with interest your new filter review and now i have purchased a qk drum and i have been looking at the control panel and i cant see an obvious way to fix to wall can i ask you how you did yours looking forward to the new season thanks for all the videos
Cat&👀 I would love to fit a Drop-in Draco Origin into My Manor 4 Bay 30.000, but £1500 😅 . So filter floss for me for the moment Lol. Also yr QK 15 must clean alot being 75 micron but seen it being automated saves all that manual hard work, which I'm sudject to😂? Also I use 200 micron filter socks also in my KK 5000 and clean twice too 3 times a day but I don't waste water away as I use for my "🍓 & 🥕" . 👍
I wouldn't know, it's well made but putting out a £3000 drum in all weathers? I would make every effort to create a cover. Protect your investment mate. Stay safe
Had it have been stainless steel then I would consider it but in some respects I see it as an eyesore, so personal choice I might add, i want to hide mine. Cheers

Great to see it's doing the job for you Steve. Yes agree, the maintenance is dramatically reduced with a drum which is very welcome.
Cheers Ken, stay safe over there mate.

Wow Paul, thank you very much. Stay safe
Watching your vid again, did I miss you explaining about where you placed the UV and how you change the bulb? Thanks.
I created a bracket for the UV and suspended it vertically in the dirty side of the filter from above. No holes bored into the main body.
I know you said you had made up your mind on placing the UV light on the "dirty" side of the filter, but ,,, I'd urge you to reconsider. Did you notice a big reduction in fines in your pond compared to when you had the EazyPod?
I have but the upflow helps out a great deal. Cheers.
You can get the same unit direct from manufacturer for £1270! I have ordered mine!!
Well done mate, glad you made a saving. Cheers
What manufacturer did you use and was it a similar model? Seems strange that it less than half price? Thanks
“I wanted to make my life easier.” Builds a koi pond in the first place then rebuilds it.

@@CATANDEYEKOI yes can understand that I suppose as the stainless steel momotaro bakki showers do look the dogs but as you said personal choice.
