Its the new norm in all sports by all the card companies, the only difference is one detail in the background, usually the color but otherwise its identical.
When everything is special, nothing is. I see it in MTG Magic the Gathering. Wizards has printed so much shiny cardboard lately that most of it is worthless. But they just keep coming up with new treatments. That comes with a company that answers to investors (Hasbro). Regardless of the health of the game in the long run, it’s about the cash now.
Hey, I'm new to collecting too. Do some research before you buy boxs. This is great content though. So you kinda benefit from this looking back.. Welcome to the world.
Leaf seems to make some pretty interesting hockey product but the unlicensed aspect really turns me off, for my PC i only buy singles and when i feel like opening packs to try and build the current set i tend to only stick with UD flagship
Nailed it. Definitely dirty pool. It reminds me of the Beatles sheets that were sold in the 60’s. Someone bought the sheets from a room the spent the night in and cut them up and sold them. They made thousands of little squares from them and sold em for a crazy profit
I'd be disappointed paying $200 for this. Some of this manufactured value crap cards are junk. This is the exact reason i just go for regular rookie cards and some special card.
I looked into getting back into sports cards, but then I found out Panini has (or had) the exclusive rights to the NBA, and every single card design was over the top and ugly. It ain't like it used to be.
Wow. That mystical thing was aj eye opener about rhia limited stuff. I've asked myself a lot of the questions that you raise about accuracy and such of these limited cards. It's part of the reason I've been limited into diving I to modern collecting.
Loved the video, sorry you had to discover this at a cost....Leaf IMO isn't the best product to spend money on. They do a lot of things that show the quality of the products not being licensed NHL products. For example using a players picture from a different team than the jersey in a jersey card. I bought a Vincent Damphousse card that was Jersey/Signed but his picture was the Canadians colours and the jersey was San Jose... My advice would be go with the licensed products and decide what you want to collect, the sets (less money) or inserts (more money). IMO the Cup by Upper Deck is top of the line and in my experience the quality is good....which it should be costing so much
Also unfortunately a lot of inserts across the board have the same picture with slightly totally random differences...(Gold 1 of 1, red 1 of 5, green 1 of 25, purple 1 of 50) all the same card with very not important differences. So if you're spending the money for a quality product and hit a 1 of 1 or low numbered card it adds value
I question leafs authenticity a bit. I recently bought a patch ocho card. For my PC, but the alfredsson patch on it, is blue and so are the others I can find.. When in his career did alfie ever wear blue.. it states they are all game worn though.. it’s also /5, but there is virtually the exact same cards /25 too.. I love the card. But just seems off to me lol
I feel like Topps is doing more or less the same with Soccer cards. Market is way too flooded with more or less the same cards. It happens ever so often, that I see exactly the same player picture, just in a different set. Same with relic cards. A lot of times it not even match worn anymore. Most likely the players just wear it while signing the autograph sheets...then its player worn.
I'm going to tell you why all these companies started coming out with all the limited cards is because when the collecting business went crazy in the lat 80s and early 90s the companies needed a way to make some of that $$$$ because they only made money on the original purchase. How do you make more money on original.purchases, make limited cards and make chase cards and all collectors buy buy buy trying for those cards.....
Read up on the checklists before spending that much money on a product. These companies make way too many 1/1's as it is already and it's been out of hand for years. Too many parallels of parallels. Welcome to the junk wax 2.0 era.
I've long thought a lot of these Jersey cards seemed WAY to clean and thought they were like practice jerseys. Or even worse, overstock of official jerseys the team had for that player, but maybe he never even wore it. But technically it's still his jersey type thing. Card company practices pushes me away long ago and I never went back.

You share people have card stock and glitter, I have cash and shiny metals who is gaining ground. I might be incorrect? Lance.

Wait till you buy upper deck. They are the reason I no longer buy boxes. I do agree with you 💯

Was it maybe an all star jersey he wore?

Boo hoo. I think you need some cheese with that whine.
Boy are you if for a LOT of disappointments
Lol yikes. 1/1 parallels. Unfortunately they all do it. I just stick with what I like. 90s basketball. At least back then the numbers meant something.

Whats just missing on the back of the card is "This relic isnt from any specific game, but the player walked past it on his way to warm up" :D
