- When LSU came from behind to beat Auburn 7-6 in 1988, Tiger fans cheered so hard that it registered on a seismograph. Check out this week's Chick-Fil-A SEC Tailgate live from Baton Rouge, LA on at 2pm ET on CSTV.
Damn most comments are from 6+ years ago kinda lonely here😐
Lol
GEAUX TIGERS!
Something like that happened at Auburn when Chris Davis returned the field goal 109 yards in the Iron Bowl.
Yes, now that you mentioned it!!!!
This game was, without a doubt, one of the most legendary games in college football history.
You have to take into consideration that Baton Rouge is on the Mississippi River Delta.... ergo underneath it and most of Southern Louisiana is pretty much nothing but mud, silt, and clay. Needless to say, seismic energy doesn't transfer well through the ground down here compared to elsewhere.
you’re kidding right?
That makes this event even more impressive. They produced so much noise and energy it was able to feasibly be transferred through silt, clay, and mud.
I was there for the game and seeing this again still gives me chills. Yes we went wild! What an amazing moment in Tiger stadium!!!
why were you in the bathroom with only 1 minute left!
I was a junior at Auburn and it was my first and only trip to LSU to date. I was in the bathroom when LSU scored and I truly thought the stadium was going to collapse!
My mother works in the geology building, and she came home from work that Monday and told us about it. Everytime we walked down that building afterwards, we'd jump up and down in the hall next to where it was located and tried to make it move. :D My first LSU football memory!
theres no fan like a louisiana fan
GO LSU/SAINTS!!
Love it! I was at that game and will never forget it!
that game shook the earth to its core
I wish Mythbusters wasn't real, so people wouldn't depend on that horrible team of so called "experts." No shit that it's false. But honestly, LSU is a research university, so them making one mistake, doesn't mean they aren't educated. Just means you fall for stupid shit. Lul
@cubanice7892 keep digging yourself a hole. the Pac 10 always has the best QB's...Masoli couldn't pass worth a lick. he wasn't the best. Jacksonville St put up 49 POINTS ON OLE MISS. Masoli doesn't play defense.
oh..and as i recall, Gary Crowton came to LSU and won a MNC in 2007. in 2006, Oregon got rid of him and picked up Chip Kelly. just stop talking. and Oregon's defense was one of the tops in the nation last year. with every single stat proving my point. like i said...keep digging a hole.
@cubanice7892 so your point is that some SEC teams are so terrible, not even a great player like Masoli can get them wins? that 1 win in the SEC was 1 win more than they had against Jacksonville St! Masoli is kicked off Oregon, and then Oregon goes to an NC. and what happened in that game? Oregon plays a terrible game and Auburn needs a fluke play to win? yeah. stick to chewing tobacco and domestic violence. because making relevant points isn't your strong suit.
@apm54 and i could name some Pac 10 teams that would beat all those teams. Standord, Oregon, USC, the list goes on. enjoy your run as the mythical best conference. the only reason you were up there is because of money. now the Pac 12 makes FAR more than the SEC...and you'll see just how dependent SEC success was on the money they pulled into networks.
look on the bright side. CBS will still think you're the best conference...as long as you're making them millions.
@RobinPillage yes...they did see an SEC defense and they trashed it. SEC defenses haven't seen Pac 10 offenses yet. had they played against the best offensive conference in the nation, the SEC wouldn't be seen as good defense anymore.
also...any sportscaster with half a brain will tell you the Pac 10 is the deepest conference in America this year. SEC? ranked 3rd by Sagarin. which is exactly where they should be.
I'd love for Oregon to prove this week in and week out...but we're not in the SEC
Hey "therealmryeah", funny you should mention Texas Tech, because Ole Miss destroyed them in the cotton bowl last year. LSU crushed Georgia Tech, Florida dominated Oklahoma. Its funny how even now there are still haters when the SEC shows why they are the best by putting 8+ teams in bowl games, and usually only losing 1 or 2 of those games. We dont have to go out of conference because we are the best. Ask the Big 10/12/ACC if the SEC is overrated.
hmmm, the SEC is in decline. interesting when you look at the top 12 recruiting classes from last year, 6 are from the SEC (Florida, LSU, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, S. Carolina). Nebraska has steadily declined since tom osborne retired and aren't a threat to be a legitimate contender. While the big 12 north sucks the big 12 south is as good as anyone..so good ohio state would probably finish 4th or 5th in that division.
yeah, the same alabama team that hasn't been relevant since the 50's, right? I guess you honestly believe that utah was a better team than alabama, that if they played ten times utah would win more games than alabama. I agree with you that paul johnson is a good coach, but then you say arkansas is irrelevent even though they hired a coach with just as good resume as johnson. Oh, i guess they won't win because the SEC sucks. how did you get alabama's record since the 50's so wrong?
Yeah, michigan kicked florida's ass that year. the difference is they played for their coach, arkansas was flat. that happens. If you honestly believe GT can outrecruit LSU you should be in a straightjacket. Johnson will do a good job at GT but how many guys will want to go to a middle of the road ACC school that has 45,000 fans a game and is 75%male or go to a school like georgia, auburn, alabama, LSU, florida, etc. that seat 85-95,000 fans and has beautiful women everywhere?
As far as recruiting, yes bama is a consistent top recruiting school but don't sell utah short. they get a lot of non-qualifiers who can't get into other schools..especially JUCO players. this is how marshall built their good teams back in the 90's. kids who go to utah are either mormons or non-qualifiers who big name schools would like to have but their admissions won't accept them. But you are correct, alabama still has much more talent and would beat them at least 8 out of 10 times.
dude, arkansas coach houston nutt was on his way out and his players knew this and they had a very lackluster effort and missouri capitalized. i guess you think mizzou would have blown LSU out too. Arkansas is a program back on the rise and will win at least seven games this year and will contend in the west by 2010. LSU did have a month to prepare for GT but the same could be said for GT..they also had a month to prepare for LSU. Johnson can never get the talent that LSU has..period.
You either shoot from the hip or don't do research. Bama was 96-21-8 in the 60's. that equates to a .774 winning %. they were 103-16-1 in the 70's which equates to a .858 winning %. they were 85-33-2 in the 80's which equates to a
.708 winning %. they were 94-31-1 in the 90's which equates to a .746 winning %. they slid to 65-48 in the 90's which equates to a .575 winning %. they have been to more bowls than any other school and won 12 National Championships. you lose as usual.
I saw GT play FSU, Miami, UNC, Georgia, and LSU last year so i know what the hell im talking about. I live down here in the south bro, you know where we don't get snow every damn day. i agree the sec doesn't have but one of the top 5 coaches but the SEC has 6 of the top 20. the rest of the SEC isn't garbage. thats what they said last year and the SEC went 6-2 in bowls in a very down year. last year SC and ARK finished 6th and 7th in the SEC in recruiting but 12th and 15th nationally. unreal
you must not watch GT that much. its not a typical flexbone offense. like i said, dwyer is the fullback in the offense and he weighs about 205lbs with 4.4 speed. he doesn't block much, he carries out the fake. he is not a typical option fullback. I can say with total confidence the SEC is year in and out the best football conference and it isn't even debatable. you are in denial.
the triple option johnson runs doesn't use a blocking fullback. they used dwyer to run the dive play..he rarely blocked. it's not the same old school triple option...kind of a hybrid triple option/zone read option. ask florida state and miami if georgia tech had nobody to run their offense well. they had a combined 1,000 yards rushing vs those teams. Frankly, you must be from the upper midwest because typically those fans can't accept the fact the big 10 is NOT the best conference.
if you use that excuse you have to say alabama played a letdown game vs utah. they were a win away from playing for the NC so a letdown was probable. And please, spare me the triple option crap. GT had 12 games to perfect it and they were on a roll going into the chick-fil-A bowl. the triple option is just as hard (or harder) to defend if executed properly. Why don't you give LSU and the SEC credit. 3 straight NC's is pretty damn good.
also 80k fans jumping up and down won't cause an earthquake unless they're all jumping in unison, striking the ground at the same time. If that were the case, there'd be physical damage at the stadium from the event. i dont see that being mentioned in the story. this is utterly absurd.
then again many people believe in ghosts, angels, spirits, etc. it figures.
im talking about alabama. i don't get how anyone who follows college football could have been more wrong. as for arkansas, they had some strong teams in the past. i'll have to check your top 50 wins by decade claim because since your unbelievably inaccurate alabama statement i have to do research before i give you any credit.
@cubanice7892 seeing as the Pac 10 and SEC have zero bowl ties, they don't play. Auburn beat Oregon on a fluke play. that's about it. if you want to go into which teams are in the Pac 12 now, how about Utah's thrashing of the Alabama in 2008?
@TorquayNutters hmmm, jeolousy comes to mind. Wanna prove me wrong? She works in the geochem lab of Howel Russel building, first floor, down the hall near the elevators...you can ask her yourself! think before you speak, next time.
This isn't impressive at all. I work at a campus seismograph station and it registers when a truck drives by on the interstate. Put one of these in the right place and you could get a reading at a tee-ball game.
@FuriousGeorge1985 yeah, wering white coats does not make one a scientist. :)
they're ok at getting kids interested in science though... really, if anything, it's a kids show.
some of us never grew up, though. :)
NAh it has i promise you that. Its just that they're not running that program anymore. they were conducting a study back then. The 07 last second win over Auburn prob beat that scale. =]
Nebraska is no better than arkansas and probably worse. The big 12 is a very good conference, second only to the SEC while the Big 3 is somewhere around 5th.
@eKriZZLe alabama sucked that yr anyway....Just like every yr! SEC is the best damn conference in the country says what the 5 BCS titles in a ROW!!!!
One year later, there was an earthquake in San Francisco during baseball. By the way, do you believe the cheering was the reason of the earthquake?
make all the earthquakes you want..any stadium could do that. still haven't ever gotten louder than Autzen or Husky Stadium.
don't forget the great ohio state had a super last minute win over the naval academy at home. the big 10 is pathetic.
Not believing this so much; I don't think it was your football game, but more like a cajun fart after some bad boudin.
@eKriZZLe All time head to head matches... The SEC leads the Pac-10 62-39-5 (.608) Just saying. Have a good day.
@eKriZZLe LSU is 5-0 vs the Pac10 since 2003. They'll be 6-0 after 09/03/11
@rodriguez8752 My guess is that they probably do get readings pretty often.. they just dont publicize them
what are you talking about 7-15 vs the PAC 10? the overall record is SEC 63-38-4! what's this 7-15 crap?
...??..what year was that?..the last touch down of the florida game was Jacob hester..
THATS HOW WE DO IT BABY
@docplux The absense of evidence is not the vidence of absense. ;)
@chrismeg34 your just jealous because your team isn't badass.
Sec is the best Why does texas am have to join. War Eagle
well they should get another one just for this reason lol
Back then it was an LSU game today it's Garth Brooks???
No doubt LSU has had more than one since the stadium is now over 102, 000
@hearthasexpired hmmmmmmm bull shit comes to mind
no one never did that not even nfl fans not even bills fan did not do it
Big 10 vs the SEC:
Illinois 2-6-0
Indiana 26-21-1
Iowa 5-3
Michigan 20-5-1
MSU 5-7-1
Minnesota 5-3-0
Northwestern 2-5-1
OSU 7-11-2
Penn St 16-16-0
Purdue 4-6-0
Wisconsin 4-8-1
Total 96-90-7
That includes the 30-48-4 vs the 2 weakest teams in the SEC history, Kentucky and Vanderbilt.
Tellgryn ur math is a little off
my mistake, it was auburn, not florida.
biils will never and never will
amen, physics 101
parents were at that game.
yeah, me too. i followed johnson at georgia southern with adrian peterson and then his navy days. And please, don't use the word insane because if you think the SEC is historically a 5th or 6th best conference, you should be committed. name the four or five conferences historically better.
THIS IS NOT FOOTBALL !!
1961 Alabama. 27 points allowed all season. Best defense in college football history. I would put that team against ANY team, especially the 1990s Nebraska teams. The only team that I think would be able to win would be 2009 Florida, or 2001 Miami. And I know that the 2009 season has barely started, but when one of the best defenses in the nation returns ALL of the starters, then something amazing is GUARANTEED to happen.
no one said mythbusters are 'experts', they're just nerds who have a good dose of common sense with testing things, and being funny while doing it.
by the way, johnson is just biding his time because he will eventually coach in the SEC at either auburn or south carolina. the best coaches eventually make their way to the SEC (like stoops will go to florida when urban meyer leaves for notre dame).
It was like a gigantic jack hammer made out of 80,000+ fans jumping and screaming at the same time causing the ground to shake...
yummy LSU girls...
@darrenmuse It's about a 5 minute walk, say 1/4-1/3 mile away. Not next door. It was actually a boring game (6-0 at that point) and that drive was the only good LSU moment. There was a lot of pent up emotions by that point in the game.
...or could it be that their sensor was so close to the stadium that it registered as seismic activity???
SEC SEC SEC
@chrismeg34 Haha, you just said University of Washington was loud....ahahahahahahahaha. Pac 10 schools dont get loud. Period. Oregon barely gets to 100db.
is that all you can come back with? Because then you shoul stay off youtube until you find something else, cause im really not offended
disheartening: Cause (someone) to lose determination or confidence.
Why do you say that? Chick-fil-a has a jam-up chicken sandwich.
what did it register on the Richter scale?
@Gamezero05 Auburn beat 7 top 20 teams this year
So it's not an urban legend LOL!
LSU WILL WHIP GT ANY YEAR..LOL
@Zoroasterrrr wtf
thats intense!
Oh the irony.
FOREVER LSU!
hell yeah.
@dancequeenclaire Looks like nobody in an LSU fan
PwnforceFrank I am a LSU fan
Go Tulane! we'll beat LSU next year!
You didnt
Nah keep dreaming though fool🤣🤡
You have no idea what it's like not being American and reading these comments, it's very entertaining to say the least :D
Good video, by the way!
Regards from the United Kingdom.
well, i would thk that when Demetrius Byrd caught that touchdown pass at the end of the LSU vs FL game would set off and even bigger earthquake lol
