Parts of a Screen Accurate Darth Vader Costume

- It's Jon, and not only do I love to make movie props and costumes, but I have a lot of fun wearing my screen accurate Darth Vader costume as a member of the 501st Legion's Midwest Garrison. Take a look at the parts of my Vader armor which I built over the course of 18 months. It's starting to show it's age a bit after seven years, and I've decided to begin upgrading now that I've grown a lot as a maker. So this video serves as a baseline for those improvements.

The Vader suit looks awesome! This helps me so much!
Awesome job that costume is great
the German Printing Nerd Thank you!
I want that
You can get one! Just a lot of time to make one or a lot of money to have one made for you. It's awesome to have. I love it!
Well done sir. Extremely well done. Most impressive. Don’t sell yourself short. You’re very talented.
Thank you kindly!
I want to do a Jin-Roh: Wolf Brigade costume eventually. Really cool vader costume.
"Your bright face obscures your darker mask."
1085243 not a problem if your black
Would I still look Intimidating if I was a 6 foot vader?
Of course! You'll still be bigger than most of anyone that you run in to. Just don't stand next to troopers who are taller than you. Vader is always intimidating.
Awesome job that costume is great ! Do you enjoy being a 501st member ?
Absolutely! Finishing this costume and joining has been exceptional events in my life. So many wonderful people and experiences. It's truly fantastic.
JE VERGEET IETS
Okay, tried to translate this and I got "you forget something?!?" Is that correct? If so, what was it? Thanks for checking it out?
Went on Thursday so i just missed you but i talked to some of the other guys at the 501st table about joining as i have almost completed my own ANH Vader costume. Just wanted to know what do you transport your suit in when you go trooping?
Oh man! Glad you stopped by and said hello. That's awesome! Love to see what you're working on. Tweet me @jonweger
Amazing how the look of the costume begins to come together as you add pieces! Very impressive! This was a fun video!
Thank you! It's fun to revisit this project. Can't wait to see the changes that I can make using the larger tool box I've got now; including 3d printing!
Nice where did u get it from
I bought two pieces of the costume the helmet (heavily modified, still far from great) and the shoulder armor. The rest? I made all of it.
a Rubies helmet .... 🤔
Yes, it's a modded Rubies. I also have a Darth Voorhees fiberglass bucket as well that was down for a repaint when I filmed the video.
Hi I had a question I was wondering where did you purchase your shoulder armor? And how much was it if you don't mind me asking?
Goodness, it's been like 13 years since I got it. I honestly don't remember the vendor, but I bought an imperfect pull and it was around $100 then.
@@9142PropsandArmory okay thank you
I'm having difficulty finding the under suit. The striped suit underneath everything, any recommendations?
Are you on the 501stsithlords forum? That would be one of the best places to get some direction and possibly find one.
@@9142PropsandArmory No, I haven't. I'll check it out. Thanks!
Fenix Props and Custom Props are the go to guys for the suit.
Should I revisit the body suit again and get a leather one. I'll be the one to make it. Just have to get a solid sewing machine for the leather. Fenix makes some nice stuff for sure.
9142 Props and Armory I think the bodysuit is important to have, but it doesn’t have to be super accurate. Most of it if covered up anyway. The one you have works fine.
Helmet is terrible I'll give you what I did for my new hope/rouge 1 suit, basically bought a supreme edition rubies costume, got rid of the garbage helmet, replaced it with a efx pcr a new hope helmet, then bought the belt boxes and chest box from portumac studios, the gloves I bought online... I honestly don't remember from where.. then I got some boots on eBay and my suit is complete a full replica suit.. now I know you not doing a new hope, but im just giving y8u some options for good prop makers here..
So for a good empire strikes back helmet get one from anovos then get a chest box a belt boxes on portumac studios and the rest you can get from the supreme edition suit... the rubies one.. hope this helps you friend
You* sorry
Thanks for the suggestions. My suit is 10 years old with nearly everything made by me. I bought the helmet (I have another a Darth Vorhees ESB that I haven't painted yet). Oh yes, and I bought the chest armor. Everything else is done by me. I like the Rubies helmet for trooping as it's considerably lighter than my fiberglass bucket. Thanks for giving helpful suggestions after crapping all over the helmet....that's a rarity on here. Thanks for watching! Jon SL-9142, Midwest Garrison
Ok
But what exactly is a darth Voorhees helmet?
This is far from screen accurate!
Thanks Jeremy. Yes, it is...if you watch the video I do get into that. At the end of the day, that title is more to the heart of the direction of the suit. I made most of everything myself on it going on 10 years ago. Vader is one that you could spend a small fortune putting together. To 99.99% of the population it is just that; an accurate representation of Vader. To a small minority, it is not. Thanks for checking it out man, all the best!
Eh, to each their own. Costuming elitism is alive and well in the Vader community. It's often reserved for many who spend a ton of cash for their costume. I go for the 99.9 % rule on accuracy. To 99.99% of everyone on Earth; it is screen accurate.
@@9142PropsandArmory well screen accuracy isn't subjective. Its only the way it is in the films.
@@jeremydrew1227 why dont you try making one?
@@TisDansk I have. Twice. 12 years of experience under my belt.
