Let's take a moment and aprecciate this man Mike Acosta. This video is from 2004... almost 15 years later, he's still answering questions! I just bough my second MV8800,( in part thanks to your videos ). I've used from MPCs to software. And for midi and hands on control/inspiration, this thing still kills it. Thanks Mike!
I would like to get a sequencer for all my external gear. What about the mv8000 Can it send CC, via the sliders, or automation? More than one midi out?
I love messing around with the swing patterns. for some reason when I hook up an external sound module to the 8800 I can't get the swing pattern to perform to the sounds of the external module. Can you achieve this in the 8800?
+Akhenaton Mashariki Anything sequenced inside the MVs sequencer will respond properly to any swing settings. You probably don't have your external settings setup properly on the MV or your module isn't setup properly to receive the midi information from the MV.
This video pretty much shows you what you need to do on the MV, you'll have to configure your module properly so you'll probably need to read the manual for your module.
Thank you! appreciated. I figured it out..i'm starting to use the mix and master now. this machine is a beast! my philosophy that the MV was brought to you by engineers and musicians all over the world :-) It's so many ways to do one thinglol
So how do you use a keyboard controller to control the softsynth but be sequenced in the MV. Was he just playing the pads on the MV? I know this can be done as he had that set-up at the 2007 Winter NAMM.
I've got it so far, but I can't put a second track with an extrernal sequenser, cause when I change the sound the first sound changes with it. Is there a way to avoid this? Thanks
Thats not an issue on the MV, thats a setting on your module or whatever your using, you have to make sure you external gear is multi-timbral and set it up properly to respond on 16 independent channels. Check your manual.
Hi Mike, Is it possible to set the audio track record source to input so I can control an external synth from a midi track on the MV and record it to an audio track? also can I select individual tracks to bounce to an audio track while listening to other tracks I don't want to bounce. Sorry, I can't find these answers elsewhere. Cheers, Duncan
Yes you can record real-time linear audio tracks on the MV from external synths that are being triggered via a MIDI track from the MV. You can't audition tracks while only bouncing certain ones to an audio track. The audio tracks can only see the analog / digital inputs or the resample function which means any tracks playing will get resampled to an audio track unless you mute certain or solo certain tracks.
mike, I just got a used MV a month, so quick ?. Since I want portability & flexibility, I assume I can sample the 909 and laptop loops as AUDIO PHRASES. I assume I can then. 1] change the tempo w/o needing the synths 2] chop the synth audio phrases -> synth patch if I really want to get sick with it. I assume I can then MIDI sequence the new synth patch on a new MIDI track. This MIDI track can then be resampled into an audio track w/ FX let me know if I am wrong, I am still learning this beast DOKbrown
+El Morto Beats Hip Hop Beats Yes sir you can, press the edit button and then use the SMT (Sample Mix Table) it allows you to stack up to 4 samples on 1 pad and have individual velocities, pitch settings and even cross velocity switching for more keyboard / piano type sounds.

Thank you sir!
Thanks mike for this video just got my mv-8000 about two weeks ago and this really help me a lot
I record all synths using the audio tracks provided. How do you?
Very nice as usual. Great instructor.
does this work for macbooks as well?
These videos help so much

can the roland mv 8000 be used with fl studio 12? and use the mv as a controller but still have your samples from your mv?

Thank you, very much! Is there an in depth video for midi on 8800? I understand your post to a degree. I don't understand midi to the fullest extent.

Mv and E-mu synthesizer
is their a way to edit midi data?
Yes in the piano roll edit screen.

make sure your Midi connections are correct

mike,

just got a used MV a month, so quick ?. Since I want portability &
flexibility, I assume I can sample the 909 and laptop loops as AUDIO

1]
change the tempo w/o needing the synths
2]
chop the synth audio phrases -> synth patch if I really want to
get sick with it.

assume I can then MIDI sequence the new synth patch on a new MIDI
track.
This
MIDI track can then be resampled into an audio track w/ FX
let
me know if I am wrong, I am still learning this beast
DOKbrown
+L Brown yes sir to all that. Have fun.
did you learn?
can you layer the pads? like, put 4 diferent snares on top of each other on one pad?
+El Morto Beats Hip Hop Beats Yes sir you can, press the edit button and then use the SMT (Sample Mix Table) it allows you to stack up to 4 samples on 1 pad and have individual velocities, pitch settings and even cross velocity switching for more keyboard / piano type sounds.
im getting
