It has Afro beat and traditional Korean sound. Even their clothes, the costumes are from an African designer and they also wear traditional korean clothes. The dance also it’s a mixture of African danse with the gwara but also some traditional Korean dance. It’s a song about celebrating culture.
To this day, no kpop act has come close to how BIG this song is. When it was released, a lot of people hated it but it’s so culturally rich and fun and such an anthem song. It was made to be performed.

The rabbit in the moon is related to a myth that is known in various Asian cultures. There is a good explanation video by DKDKTV I think. The “talking talking” sounds like Tokki Tokki which is Korean for rabbit.

The bunny on the moon is likely a “congratulations, you played yourselves” message to their haters/critics. According to explanation videos, there’s a Korean saying stating that when people talk bad about you, you live longer, and the bunny on the moon has to do with Asian legends about immortality. Basically it’s them saying “Looks like we’ll be immortal, since you won’t shut up about us”. They might be singing “talking, talking” or “tokki, tokki” which is Korean for rabbit and it works either way. It’s pretty brilliant imo. There are several “diss” tracks where they thank haters for helping them succeed, like Ddaeng and some of their Cyphers.
This is a remix, I would have liked you to see the original version. I don't know if they are prioritizing BTS collaborations. Anyway, we have more recommendations from just BTS like "Run BTS concert in Busan" the songs Tomorrow, UGH from the rapline, Ddaeng, Dis-ease, Outro Tear, Mic drop in concert and We Are Bulletproof Pt2 concert muster...
Their performance of this for Melon Music Award 2018 was EXCEPTIONAL
I like the original better, not sure that Nicki really adds much to it...the MV itself is loaded with references both specific to a lot of hate BTS received hence some of the CGI choices, wardrobe, etc but also tons of cultural references like the rabbit in the moon and traditional folk music elements. The beat is from South Africa, called gqom (I think the whistle is also inspired from Africa) blended with Korean traditional elements. BTS were also getting a lot of (unfounded) hate about becoming "westernized", whatever that means...so they just went full out with wardrobe, dance and traditional folk elements, etc...this was also the year that haters were petitioning to the Blue House (SK 'white' house) to have them disbanded, etc....all really over the top hate...hence 'You can't stop me loving myself' is a journey for them to get to that place mentally of just ignoring the haters and doing them. DKDKTV has a great explain video that shows the genius of the lyrics and cultural references that will just go over our nonKorean heads. Highly recommended reacting to it.

@@cassandradenise3037 they are so completely different from each other. Halsey is barely in it really, just basically as a backup singer and it's more on the poppier side than is my go to but it's not a bad song...but if you ask me about On with Sia as a comparison, I absolutely prefer the original with that one as well. Nicki Minaj is infinitely a better feature in Idol than Sia was in On.
@@cassandradenise3037 idk from what I heard most army's don't really care for the collabs with sia and nicki minaj. Most do love the collabs with halsey tho. But we just really love halsey bc she's such a good friend to them and she really adds to the songs.
@@cassandradenise3037 I think it also has to do with features that don't have a BTS only version that came out first. For instance the only version of Boy With Luv that exists is the one with Halsey. But songs like Make It Right, Idol, ON, Butter have BTS only versions that came out before these versions that have features. I even see people saying Jungkook's Standing Next To You without Usher is better even if they still like the version with Usher.

wish you could watch explanation for this MV and song so you could understand the references mentioned in the song better and why the Mv is made this way
So many hate on this Nicki collab but the Barbz made this go #1 on billboard, which became BTS’s first #1. Army may be the top in terms of streaming, but Barbz are the top in terms of sales and buying power compared to any global fandom. The minute this collab came out, the song went straight to #1 the following week. Billboard later took Nicki out from the credit on billboard because Army made it an issue as the original version had more streams… the very next week, the song fell off the top 5. Nicki and BTS have shown love to each other but the fandoms really do make everything toxic. I know this as an Army and a Barb. The Barbz even held multiple mass buying parties for this record only for Army (the toxic ones) to ruin everything. Barbz will still support because BTS is not at fault and we know every fandom has bad apples.

Hola, me agrada ver su reacción, pero podrian reaccionar, a BTS es EN VIVO, a mi no me gusta el kpop, pero hace ya algunos años, tuve la fortuna de conocer a BTS al principio me negaba por los prejuicios, soy MEXICANA y tengo 3 hermanos y escuchamos rap, ( C KAN, DARHIUS, ALEMAN, CANCERBERO etc, y musica tradicional Banda, Norteña etc), me di la oportunidad y la RAP LINE me capturo, tienen un estilo de verdad grandioso, JHOPE tiene una forma de interpretar única con esa voz tan peculiar y estilo espectacular dicen mis hermanos que es difícil su forma de rapear y que es muy unica, y RM realmente es un moustro, SUGA crea los mejores beats y sus lirycs me gustan. la VOCAL LINE son grandes interpretes JIN su voz es tan melodiosa que se mezclas con la musica, V tiene una voz de seda, JIMMIN su voz angelical Y JUNGKOOK es magnífico, y por dios su coreografías son espectaculares, pero ellos se disfrutan más en vivo.

I suggest you watch some of BTS’s lives. They are one of the rare artists where they are better live. May I suggest born singer live where they were on the spinning stage? It’s a rendition of j-Cole’s born sinner. There’s no choreo in that one, but the passion just oozes off the screen.
Also, on top of the other comments, this video is also theorized to be a mockery of other mvs from other idols that are over the top for no reason. Bts did it even bigger here but with lots of reason

You really need to react to Daeng explanation, by a Korean dkdktv it gives so much content about Korean references, you can’t really appreciate the rapline without really understanding the lyrics. Your reaction are great however still westernised, to appreciate them you really have to understand their lyrics, Dkdktv, do explanations of their songs, from a Korean point of you..
