    David Russell truly is a great performer but he is a fantastic pedagogue. His ability to put a student at their ease and communicate exactly what is wanted/needed is almost insurmountable. He does this so well that you don't even realise that it is happening and certainly the student, in front of a masterclass - STRESS - is put in a frame of mind to accept the great wisdom gained from years on the stage and many, many years of patient study. Great show.

    A good teacher talks about his own good experiences, is really interested in his student and her performance and can explain and demonstrate all observations with ease and kindness. That’s David Russel in perfection!

    Just in case anyone is confused by the title of this music it is Gavotte en Rondeau from 1006a. I just mentioned this in case someone tries to locate the music score

    Is this suite originally for violin or lute? Because in David Russell's Bach album it says Lute suite n°4 but I've seen a lot of violinists playing it and calling it violin partita. I'm confused 😅

      Original for violin then transcribed for lute harpsichord

    • @amigosXcorrespondenc
      @amigosXcorrespondenc 4 года назад

      @@axleblaze123 Yeap, I do the research. Bach make transcriptions of his own pieces for other instruments, sometimes I forget that.

      Something to note is that there most likely never was any "Bach lute suites"

      @@robdoubletrouble Wow, that was a nice lecture, thank you very much. About the suites being impissible to play on the lute as are written, well, Castelnuovo-Tedesco's guitar pieces are also impossible to play on the guitar without changes and are also written more in a pianistic style than guitaristic. But yeah, interesting, I haven't found the time yet to read historical books about Bach music or music in general, maybe I should. But I wanna be musician, not musicologist hehe. I do knew because one of my guitar teachers mentioned that some of Bach students tried to write in Bach's style and sell the scores after Bach's death.

    I don't understand why students love to read sheet music above their ability to do so. My friends, start with easy pieces followed by beginner pieces leading to intermediate pieces (this is where I stand) and then final to advanced pieces that lead to professional guitarist. In other words, why rush? Why jump from Mary Had A Little Lamb to Mozart in less than one year? You say?

    Traditional Chinese music is about not being overtly emotional but about being balanced and harmonious emotionally, which is quite the contrast with western music as you might have noticed. This makes western music hard to fathom to Chinese people. And this is still being instilled, albeit not by an emperor but by a communist dictator, in Chinese mentality. "Don't provoke troubles, don't disrupt social harmony, don't stand out" and other vague bs that could get you arrested if you're being seen as a dissident in mainland China or could get you in trouble with local communities.
