The E39 M5 is so special. Really great to see another video on it. My uncle had an E39 M5 that he seems to have really loved. He said it was "mind blowing at the time how fast it was" and sounded great, too. He said it was fun to drive all the time, not just in perfect conditions. Of course he ended up selling it and replacing it with a 997 Carrera, which is a damn good car that he still owns, but he says he still misses it. Now, my wife has a 2021 330i with the M Sport package, and out of all the modern BMWs I have been in, it's one of the best. It's a lot of fun to throw around and is surprisingly quick. It even has a decent exhaust sound thanks to a dual-mode exhaust system. Sometimes the steering and brakes seem a bit too touchy and numb, but it's something I've gotten used to after a couple months with the car. I had a 2002 M5 as a daily between 2013 and 2016. It was a wonderful car, LeMans Blue over Caramel extended leather. I sold it for two reasons, I was tired of the expensive repairs trying to keep it perfect as a 15k mile per year daily, and I wanted something more nimble. I replaced it with a 2013 Mini S with every hot part on it available from the Mini catalog. The new turbo 4 though just wasn't as fun as the NA engines so I settled on an e36 M3 and can't be happier. The least expensive of the set to maintain, nimble, sounds amazing, and quick. The M5 was a dream to own, I'm glad I had the opportunity, it just had the drive a fast car slow problem. It wasn't fun at legal speeds. It was the car that proved to me that driving a slow car fast is way more fun.
This is the best / last true 5 series with outstanding quality put from factory. I was working for the brand when they switched to the e60 and then the f10. E39&E38 was when BMW was at top of their game. Hard to top that. Alpina b10 3.3 is a good alternative to M5 if you want special E39 with more responsive steering. But that works only for die hard BMW fans. Used AR Gulia Ti is now in same price range and a better car in every way.
My God what a beautiful car!! I own a 520i touring automatic. Not very vast in any way, but I LOVE the style, driving experience, the rear air suspension, the 6 inline and I could go on with the list endlessly! But there's a but. RUST... yep. I'm dealing with a lot of rust. Car is 21 years old and mechanically it is 100%. It has only 290K kilometres. But body wise with the rust it is a nightmare. So I hope I can keep up with the rust so I can enjoy my e39 touring for another decade.
