Omg I just unlocked a memory of holding pencils getting banned in the debates in my speech and debate league bc someone either tried to stab someone else or threw it at a judge. I don't fully remember.
OH ALSO they had improv and poetry recitation in speech and debate and we always joked that those were the "and" categories. It's the first time I did improv but I never did it in competition. Also it used to be called forensics but it kept getting confused with the police science so they dropped it. We used to abbriviate it as 4N6 it was cringe. Also most of the people in my speech & debate club in the speech part were also doing the school plays and theater stuff - and a lot of us turned out gay.

This is the best representation of speech and debate 🤣. But my school was small, so it was a lot lower pressure.
Mine was huge and I waw terrible but my team celebrated me anyway, I got a participation award and they cheered so loud it was hilarious
