Thanks. I use the Samba addon to make the config folder accessible. Then it's just copy/paste. You can also use the IDE addon. That is really nice because it lets you access the folders (like samba) but also gives you a editor for your config files, AND even gives you a command line (which hopefully you don't have to use much). The downside of the IDE addon is if you're just on an RPI it can be a little slow. I guess it's a bit of a cpu resource hog. Hope that helps!
@@DrZzs thanks for the quick reply. I have only figured out how to access my yaml files using the API access. I have the Samba installed, but do I also need to download it to my computer? I'm running Win10 The last time I messed this up it took me about 4 days to get back in and start over. I now have a back up Raspberry Pi, haha.
Once you have Samba add-on running on the pi you should be able to access your files from Win10. There might be something you need to do in windows to see shared folders on the network. Typical windows junk, sometimes it shows up, sometimes it doesn't. You don't need to install anything on Win10 to see the samba folders. Hope that helps!
use the picture cards. I did a video about using Sweethome 3d to make a floor plan to use with Lovelace. Somethings have probably changed in the picture elements card since then. ruclips.net/video/ObfRzMIEJPg/видео.html ruclips.net/video/HBXIOj5ndo4/видео.html
This is a great video. Just started with HA and your channel is really helpful :) Although the video was really explanatory, I still have 2 questions I hope you would be able to answer: 1. Is there a way to stop the more info window opening, when I click on the small map in Home section? 2. Do you also have a problem that the small map keeps multiplying after you open any of the other panels?
Thanks. The small map re-appearing is happening to everyone right now unfortunately. I expect there will be some update hopefully soon that will fix that. For now if you refresh your HA page it will go back to having only one mini map. There is an option, I believe in the floorplan.yaml at the top to turn off the more info window. I think you have to uncomment the line that says "hide_app_toolbar". Make sure the spacing stays lined up. Save the floorplan.yaml after you change it then run the Config checker in HA to make sure it checks out before you restart. If the config checker fails you probably need to adjust the spaces in front of that line you uncommented. I hope that's the option. I can't exactly remember. Let me know if it works or not.
Thank you for your replay! It worked but unfortunately that was not what is was looking for. I was trying to understand if there is a way to make the boolean window not open what I click on the small map in the overview screen. Now that I think, I am not sure if it is possible, as it happens for all the objects when you click on them.
I'm pretty sure I did something to make that big menu not pop up. I'll have to mess with my setup and see if I can remember what I did. There's a way (I think...)
I am sorry, but you still don't understand what I mean ;). I am thinking about the small map in the overview tab, not the custom panel. When I click on it there, turns on the light, but at the same time it opens html "ha-more-info-dialog" which annoys me. I was wondering if I could get that not to show up ;)
Could I ask you to clear up something for me? When you say add to customize.yaml or config.yaml, do you mean configuration.yaml or is it a new file called config.yaml?
I followed the video pretty well. And have the Floorplan icon in Hassio with a floorplan. But when I check config I get this error? Any suggestions? Configuration invalid Component not found: binary_sensor.floorplan
I went kinda fast over the part about adding the Binary sensor. There are some lines you need to put either in your config.yaml or in your binary_sensors.yaml if you use one. I’m on my phone or id put them here again. They should be in the description. If you have that part right let me know but that’s my first guess based on that error message
DrZzs, did you succeed to create a sag text with Inkscape that shows the value from an sensor and do you know how to allow the floor plan on a iPad or a phone?
I haven't gone back to try the text again. If you're looking for help with that part try the HA-Floorplan post in the HA forums. community.home-assistant.io/t/floorplan-for-home-assistant/17394 I access the floorplan on my phone through the HA app. If you want to go straight to the floorplan, you can bookmark (your.ha.ip:8123/floorplan) Hope that helps!
Firstly, great videos. Love the way your stuff is presented. Can you help? I have the ‘Zones’ box appear in my frontend (alongside all of my existing component boxes) but it doesn’t display a floorplan - it just says ‘Zones’. Opening it shows a toggle which, when turning on, only remains on for around a second before turning itself off. I tested config as stated in your video and it showed it was ok. On reviewing developer info in the sidebar I can see it says “Unable to find binary_sensor/turn_on”. I have to say, I was confused about this section of your video. You say “If you already have binary sensors, add this...”. I didn’t have any binary sensors already - do I still add the binary sensor section? I’m presuming also that mqtt (in my case, Mosquitto) is installed and active. Correct? Any suggestions on my issue?
Sorry for the confusion. If you don't have a binary_sensor section then add these lines to your configuration. yaml binary_sensor: - platform: mqtt state_topic: dummy/floorplan/sensor name: Floorplan
do you not have MQTT? You don't need it for that binary sensor. As I understand, it is just a placeholder so the Floorplan can show on the Overview page. But in general MQTT is a very good way for IoT devices to communicate. If you don't use it now, you will probably want to eventually. When you decide you want it this shows how to install/setup. It's pretty straight forward: ruclips.net/video/c2IUIUnxjUY/видео.html
DrZzs - I have MQTT installed (running Hassbian and I installed via ‘sudo hassbian-config install mosquitto’. Not sure whether I need to add anything under config.yaml but put in simply ‘mqtt:’ I have put info in to config.yaml (as you advised in your last reply) (which is same yaml as what was in the video anyway if I recall correctly) and it still doesn’t show the floorplan - only the blank component box titled ‘Zones’. I’m getting ‘unable to find service binary_sensor/turn_on’ in the Developer info box. Any clues?
I looked in the "issues" section of the HA-floorplan github and you aren't the only one having this problem. Looks like it might be a browser issue. This is the post that looked most helpful: github.com/pkozul/ha-floorplan/issues/33 Try using different browser. Let me know if that helps.
I don’t know exactly why but if have that happen too. I’ve just gone back to Inkscape and redone the icons. Sometimes it still hasn’t work. I’m suspicious that the icon is being broken into small pieces and when we assign the entity id to it we’re only getting some small part of it instead of the whole thing. I don’t have a better answer than that right now. Try the ha-Floorplan topic in the HA forum.
Thanks for the feedback. The problem was the icones replaced by the same ones and of nothing everything worked. I do not know why this is solved. Thank you
Thanks again for the great videos! I've managed to get floorplan up and running, however, I can see the plan on Chrome or Safari via a MacBook, but on my iPhone it never loads the layout (only the group name), also the panel on the side stays blank, it never loads. I've noted a couple of forums mention this, any idea how to get the panel to show up on a mobile? The same happens with the HASS.IO, TasmoAdmin, InfluxDB panels. Been driving me crazy :-)
I just checked mine and the same happens to me. I guess I never tried using those pages on my phone before. I can see the hassio page, but the others I can't. I'm not sure where the problem is. It's likely something over my head dealing with website/browser gobblygook. Does it change if you're at home or away when you use the phone? It could be you need to open ports for each of those functions. Floorplan doesn't use a port (that I recall) so that's probably not the issue there, but Tasmoadmin, nodeRed, etc do. Maybe they aren't rendering for different reasons. Sorry I'm not more help :/ Maybe ask in the HA Discord.
I've tried opening the ports for TasmoAdmin etc, but that does not seem to work, even on my local network. With the ports open I can access the interfaces directly through my phone browser, so that's at least a work around. What did work for Floorplan however, was adding the following to frontend.yaml: (the "javascript_version: latest" part) extra_html_url: - /local/custom_ui/state-card-floorplan.html javascript_version: latest Or like you always say, to you configuration.yaml (under "frontend:")... Either way works fine... Now shows up on iPhone under the group as well as the side panel, locally connected to WiFi or over mobile network. This also fixed the hassio panel, which didn't work before either...
At this point, I use Lovelace. HA Floorplan had a few bugs that were hard to resolve. Lovelace is much easier to use. It takes a bit more yaml writing but it's the one I prefer now for sure. Hope that helps!
DrZzs onemore question how long have you run home assistant ? .. i heard raspberry pi 3b SD card will die after two years run 24/7... or maybe they mean run rasbian?
I've run HA for about a year now. But I've had my 3d printer on an rpi3 for 3 years and it hasn't failed yet. I guess it's a good idea to make a back-up occasionally.
whoa. That's weird. I can't say I know what to do about that. Try double checking that you have all the files in the right places. And double check the binary_sensor entry. Then try the HA forum page: community.home-assistant.io/t/floorplan-for-home-assistant/17394/ Sorry I'm not more help with that.
Pff, you're making it extremely hard for me. I'm using OpenHAB with HabPanel but seems like Home Assistant is gaining a lot of traction. People like you and Bruh make it so easy to understand. The only thing holding me back is a good way to have a customisable app and an alternative to the OpenHAB rule engine. Is there a way to somehow customise the view in Home Assistant like BasicUI in OpenHAB? Is there a way to have virtual buttons to control scenes?
haha! Give in to the HA side! I need to get more familiar with OpenHab to comment specifically on Home Assistant's comparable features. I think the easiest customizable interface for HA is HA-Dashboard. But there are other that I haven't tried yet. I'm going to make a phone-screen-sized dashboard with just the buttons I want to see on my phone. There are ways to customize the stock UI also. It's certainly not Drag and Drop, but it's doable. I don't know what the rule engine is in OpenHAB. My guess is something like Automations, or Scripts would be the HA equivalent. I'm working on a video for NodeRed with HA for next week. That's probably the best solution for creating automations. As for virtual buttons, Input_boolean is probably what you'd use in HA. It's a button that you can assign as a trigger for pretty much any action, including activating a scene. If you have the means for another rpi it's probably worth getting Home Assistant and starting to tinker with it yourself. If you don't like it, you don't loose anything. Good luck!
I started out with OpenHAB on an rpi but switched to an intel NUC so I do have a spare rpi. After a quick glance automation is indeed HA alternative to OpenHAB's rule engine. I tried Node-RED on OpenHAB but gave up after 5 minutes. :p I just burned Hass.io to an SD card and it's booting up on the rpi as we speak. I also have a NEEO remote which works really great with OpenHAB, it was a kickstarter campaign. www.neeo.com I have a spare one, let's try to make that one talk some MQTT in HA.

Great videos. can you help me understand how to put the files into my main HA config folder?
@@DrZzs Got it, thanks.
Thanks for the tutorial!
you're welcome
could you do an updated version of this with lovelace ? or is it just not worth it and maybe i should just use the picture card ?
use the picture cards. I did a video about using Sweethome 3d to make a floor plan to use with Lovelace. Somethings have probably changed in the picture elements card since then. ruclips.net/video/ObfRzMIEJPg/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/HBXIOj5ndo4/видео.html
Great video! Thanks!
This is a great video. Just started with HA and your channel is really helpful :) Although the video was really explanatory, I still have 2 questions I hope you would be able to answer:
I was wondering if I could get that not to show up ;)
I know what you're trying to get rid of, and I thought I had a way to do it but I can't remember now what I did...
Still looking for the solution.
Could I ask you to clear up something for me? When you say add to customize.yaml or config.yaml, do you mean configuration.yaml or is it a new file called config.yaml?
And again another awesome video. Installing everything you said in my hass.io systemm as I'm writting this. Greetings again from Chile. :D
sweet!
Good luck!
Make something Awesome!
I followed the video pretty well. And have the Floorplan icon in Hassio with a floorplan. But when I check config I get this error?
Any suggestions?
Configuration invalid
Component not found: binary_sensor.floorplan
I went kinda fast over the part about adding the Binary sensor. There are some lines you need to put either in your config.yaml or in your binary_sensors.yaml if you use one.
I’m on my phone or id put them here again. They should be in the description.
If you have that part right let me know but that’s my first guess based on that error message
Here’s what you’re probably missing:
binary_sensor:
- platform: mqtt
state_topic: dummy/floorplan/sensor
name: Floorplan
DrZzs, did you succeed to create a sag text with Inkscape that shows the value from an sensor and do you know how to allow the floor plan on a iPad or a phone?
I haven't gone back to try the text again. If you're looking for help with that part try the HA-Floorplan post in the HA forums.
community.home-assistant.io/t/floorplan-for-home-assistant/17394
I access the floorplan on my phone through the HA app. If you want to go straight to the floorplan, you can bookmark (your.ha.ip:8123/floorplan)
Hope that helps!
Hey guys! In celebration of reaching 10,000 subscribers, Dr. Zzs has opened a Facebook Group! Come check it out! facebook.com/groups/1969622823351838/
thanks for taking the Time
of course!
my pleasure! This was a fun one. I learned a lot too.
Great video !
thanks!
Can i create my own entity??? Because when i download my hassio there is not much entity...i dont know why..
Check out the newest video I just uploaded "Home Assistant 101". I talk some about how entities get added to HA.
Hope that helps.
@@DrZzs Alright i will look into it thanks :D
Now, with lastest version of HA, I can use Lovelace floorplan?
Yeah. I use picture-elements inside LovelaceUI
in css the "fill" property mention as uknown . why is that?
I'm not sure. I haven't used this solution in a while.
If you don't have a binary_sensor section then add these lines to your configuration. yaml
binary_sensor:
- platform: mqtt
state_topic: dummy/floorplan/sensor
name: Floorplan
DrZzs - And MQTT has to be installed and running?
do you not have MQTT?
You don't need it for that binary sensor. As I understand, it is just a placeholder so the Floorplan can show on the Overview page.
But in general MQTT is a very good way for IoT devices to communicate. If you don't use it now, you will probably want to eventually.
When you decide you want it this shows how to install/setup. It's pretty straight forward:
ruclips.net/video/c2IUIUnxjUY/видео.html
DrZzs - I have MQTT installed (running Hassbian and I installed via ‘sudo hassbian-config install mosquitto’. Not sure whether I need to add anything under config.yaml but put in simply ‘mqtt:’
I have put info in to config.yaml (as you advised in your last reply) (which is same yaml as what was in the video anyway if I recall correctly) and it still doesn’t show the floorplan - only the blank component box titled ‘Zones’. I’m getting ‘unable to find service binary_sensor/turn_on’ in the Developer info box. Any clues?
I looked in the "issues" section of the HA-floorplan github and you aren't the only one having this problem. Looks like it might be a browser issue. This is the post that looked most helpful:
github.com/pkozul/ha-floorplan/issues/33
Try using different browser. Let me know if that helps.
Congratulations on the videos has helped me a lot. But I have a problem not all my entities are clickable, do you have any idea why?
I don’t know exactly why but if have that happen too. I’ve just gone back to Inkscape and redone the icons. Sometimes it still hasn’t work.
I’m suspicious that the icon is being broken into small pieces and when we assign the entity id to it we’re only getting some small part of it instead of the whole thing.
I don’t have a better answer than that right now.
Try the ha-Floorplan topic in the HA forum.
Thanks for the feedback. The problem was the icones replaced by the same ones and of nothing everything worked. I do not know why this is solved. Thank you
Well, glad you figured it out! Wish I could tell you exactly why it happened.
It really was weird because it was copies. But the important thing is that it is solved. I really appreciate your help :)
Sorry I'm not more help :/
Maybe ask in the HA Discord.
I've tried opening the ports for TasmoAdmin etc, but that does not seem to work, even on my local network. With the ports open I can access the interfaces directly through my phone browser, so that's at least a work around. What did work for Floorplan however, was adding the following to frontend.yaml: (the "javascript_version: latest" part)
extra_html_url:
- /local/custom_ui/state-card-floorplan.html
javascript_version: latest
Or like you always say, to you configuration.yaml (under "frontend:")... Either way works fine... Now shows up on iPhone under the group as well as the side panel, locally connected to WiFi or over mobile network. This also fixed the hassio panel, which didn't work before either...
oh good. glad you got at least some of it working.
Do you prefer HA Floorplan or Lovelace?
At this point, I use Lovelace. HA Floorplan had a few bugs that were hard to resolve. Lovelace is much easier to use. It takes a bit more yaml writing but it's the one I prefer now for sure.
Hope that helps!
Would be cool as well to start with a google satellite image!
i know it out of subject but ever you use HDD instate of micro SD card for respberry pi ? ( in home assistant)
no, I haven't. But I've connected HDDs to the USB ports for large storage of pictures and videos.
Make a tutorial on how to backup your config to Github... simple and great way to backup and bonus is you can share your files as examples! :D
I really do need to do that.
Do you do it?
I flipped the screen 180 degrees and his head looked better with the mouth above the eyes.
Awesome!
Thanks!
Did you know why my Floorplan didn´t load. I get only a Rainbow Cycle. I use still Version 0.68.0
Rainbow cycle? whoa, what is that?
When HA comes up you see a loading cycle in different colours and i See it in zones Where the floorplan should be
whoa. That's weird.
I can't say I know what to do about that. Try double checking that you have all the files in the right places. And double check the binary_sensor entry.
Then try the HA forum page:
community.home-assistant.io/t/floorplan-for-home-assistant/17394/
Sorry I'm not more help with that.
DrZzs Null Problemo i figured it out. Thanks 👍
awesome
what was the problem? I like to know in case someone else has the same issue.
Greate turial!
Ben, you look different!
Just as bald, not nearly as smart as Ben. :)
Awesome!
Next week's video is about node-red. Might be worth another look.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR NOT JUST BEING A FLOATING HEAD . . wait, nvm, you did it any ways. it bothers me so much
Sorry. For a long time I was very inconsiderate of people with floatingheadophobia. I haven't appeared bodyless at all in my last several videos.
Thank you! Ignore me, I thought I was shouting into the wind, You make great videos and have some great content!
I reacted very quickly and didn't think much when initially typing this. I do want to say that I do think it does bother me at some level and may be a phobia I actually have.
