You can see its moving in and out way more than its supposed to be so I dont think that will last much longer. That said you break a expensive turbo pretty quick from not babying it correctly (heat up, heat down or engine stalls) or having oil issues. Moving in and out like it does there is the thrust bearing and that will end up as catastrophic failure. That axially play comes from boost or exhaust pressure being higher than the other side, pushing and pulling towards that bearing wearing it out (accelerated by dirty or lack of oil). A copy turbo might have larger differences (balance of pressure) of the comp/exhaust which wears it out quicker, hybrids often do this
So it is infact a poorly crafted turbo? Maybe not bad for a pinch like dudes description says, just to get to the track the next day or whatever. But as far as longevity you probably shouldn't put this turbo on your daily driver and only car, expecting it to last for years to come
@@RandoManFPV So what you pay for is the quality of the product, the materials and the level of tolerances if its a "copy" product (can still be made in the same factory as a higher end product). Take exhaust housings for example, a housing for a diesel can be run with a cheaper cast material because it wont hit as high of EGT´s as a gasoline race turbo does. A cheap turbo might not be balanced as well and the play in the bearings might be out of spec. Then theres a whole next level of cheap when they start making their own cook ups, like T3T4´s you can order several from the same chinese guy on ebay and end up with different measurements on the compressors for example. Ive had friends try this! Oil restrictors might not be included etc that will take the life of the turbo prematurely. I actually think that putting a ebay turbo on a cheap daily is kind of ok as the turbos doesnt get pushed that hard. Its also ok to put a cheap turbo on a car that you know will blow up very soon because you dont know what you are doing, so the turbo will last the engines life time.

Most of these china turbos have too small oilfeed inside the thrustbearing, they dont last that long on higher boost with too little oil in the thrustbearing... There is also big quality diffrences. 1 will shit on you after 15min and another will last years.
I am probably the most unbiased engine guy ever. I love everything. Naturally aspirated or forced induction. Datsun, Chevrolet, Ford, mopar, Ferrari, Toyota, Honda, and and even some Mazda rotaries. I only look at engines from an engineering standpoint. Does the block have good structural rigidity? Does it have a good oiling system? Does it have a decent head that not only flows good numbers but has velocity where it's needed. When you look at the Toyota 2JZ from an engineering standpoint only. It's a phenomenal motor. It has fantastic structural rigidity. It was way overbuilt from the factory. It has a really good oiling system design and drain back. It's head was really good for its time. You can throw a ton of boost at it and it will take a beating. It's really hard to hate anything about that motor.
The only thing I don't like about it is the cast iron block. On a real race car, not a Drifter, weight is the enemy, and everything is aluminum-block now

The thing with chjna stuff is that its hit and miss so you never know. Could be first out of a mold or lucky hit with tolerances but the next one you get can be total trash. If 5-6 people don't send the compressor wheel through the shop roof, doesn't mean its good yet to me. We had it with Sikky for instance, one set of headers fits a car, next set you get is an inch off. Can't work with that, especially with companies like Sikky that have notoriously bad customer service. They'll have a whole story, but that doesn't change the shape of your part. Many companies bank on the fact that lots of performance car people never actually mount or use the components, big percentage is just laying on the shelf, passing hands from one guy to another "its good stuff, driver ABC has it in FD"

what we've done in this past is find a company with loose return policies on ali or ebay. order 4-5 then pick the best one and return the others as "does not work". people say "dont support china parts" yet go an support the companies that go to china for building the parts, materials, and spend 10x times the amount, which is how china steals the design from the companies having them make the parts for cheap. I dont feel bad for garret at all. take a 180$ turbo, then take it to a machine shop and have it atleast vsr balanced for another all for 300$. I've had garrets last not even a year sometimes. its all cheap junk at this point the only diff is the machining and balancing done. also to note garret currently only has a 1year warranty thats very strict, while on ali ebay stuff has 2-5 year warranties if you look around.
The problem is that on the long term, supporting countries that have no worker rights, animal rights, copy rights or ethics will be the downfall of local economies. I don't feel good supporting a country that mandates its citizens to have apps that control their entire life, social credit scores they have to uphold if they so much as want to move house or bury their loved ones.
@@olof103eriksson you are awesome man thanks for the info!
Yo if your friend happens to order multiple of the same exact part from a dealer and gets different measurements on each part he should certainly make a RUclips video about it! Spread awareness of the inconsistent manufacturers of any important or expensive parts. Plus heck it might draw a lot of views haha! Thanks again
@@RandoManFPV Yeah man Ill see if he still have them, I think they did some kind of group buy :D No worries, I deal with a company that makes turbos in china so thats why I am informed on what it is like. The guys I work with make pretty much the same or sometimes better quality as the big brands so not all chinese stuff is the way I describe. The cheap ones def are though, simply because the correct materials would be more expensive than the final product

On a real race car, not a Drifter, weight is the enemy, and everything is aluminum-block now
"it just lives" i love it

The maxspeedingrods gt3582r with the billet wheel is only 231 dollars
The thing with chjna stuff is that its hit and miss so you never know. Could be first out of a mold or lucky hit with tolerances but the next one you get can be total trash.
If 5-6 people don't send the compressor wheel through the shop roof, doesn't mean its good yet to me.
We had it with Sikky for instance, one set of headers fits a car, next set you get is an inch off. Can't work with that, especially with companies like Sikky that have notoriously bad customer service.
They'll have a whole story, but that doesn't change the shape of your part.
Many companies bank on the fact that lots of performance car people never actually mount or use the components, big percentage is just laying on the shelf, passing hands from one guy to another "its good stuff, driver ABC has it in FD"
the turbo costs as much as a tire, for how low our expectations are, the thing is pretty miraculous lol!

DON'T RUN A TURBO WITHOUT A FILTER! I have seen first hand what happened when something gets sucked in there. It also just puts more crap in your engine. Even with a filter you will suck in dirt and such, but the filter stops alot.
When you realize all those big companies lied to you

Yeah man I'm thinking of putting one on my cheap shit box daily once I finish my turbo 86
Does a turbo still work If you don't floor the vehicle
what we've done in this past is find a company with loose return policies on ali or ebay. order 4-5 then pick the best one and return the others as "does not work". people say "dont support china parts" yet go an support the companies that go to china for building the parts, materials, and spend 10x times the amount, which is how china steals the design from the companies having them make the parts for cheap.
Its pretty clear to see how Chjna now plays a big role in the container crisis.
I don't feel good supporting a country that mandates its citizens to have apps that control their entire life, social credit scores they have to uphold if they so much as want to move house or bury their loved ones.
Its a little short sighted to think your money only purchases YOU things, it also never comes back into the domestic economy and will eventually reduce the total value of the domestic economy whilst financing atrocious regimes.
With every turbo you buy.

@@DriftJesus oh hey its the beard guy :D
@@DriftJesus well said! There is a reason china doesn't make replica EFR turbos, because BW makes everything inhouse. I always tell people to buy BW or if they really want a garrett, buy a china turbo and take it to a USA located shop with a balancer and spend the money there for this reason. garrett has materials made in china and then assembled in Mexico, its a loophole garrett uses to have "made in mexico" on the box instead of china since the "made" origin only relates to where the product is finished at and honeywell has cut workers almost every year since 2005. This was why i told people if you're going to get a garrett, might as well just get a china one since its basically the same thing just assembled and balanced better. the policies surely fucked us with the china trade reform back then with "promises of china being a truly democratic peaceful reformed nation." 40 years later china is still china and we got completely screwed.

I run a stock 2jz gte oil filter housing slash cooler on my ge 2jz... they work well plus if you water cool the turbo you really don't need an oil cooler... I've also ran a ebay turbo for about 2 years now from cx racing and its lived longer then 2 stock ge blocks and one built ge block... all the comments of shift play in and out are over rated in and out is fine I've seen brand new turbos go in and out its up and down and side to side that kills turbos
