Great points. Placing the most powerful and important country in the international system into the hands of a cackling idiot would have been disastrous. Stephens gives his opinions about the inner thoughts and motivations of people he doesn't truly know without any hesitation - total hubris.

@@dproulx222Simply refraining from what Biden did would be a start. The “Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act” and the “Inflation Reduction Act” tallied up to over $2 trillion in government spending.
All it takes is identifying Democratic economic instincts, and doing the precise opposite.

For so so many of us, the bias and prejudice lamestream media paraded on every broadcast, drove us to alternative sources for news and information such as podcasts. We got our daily fix from The Free Press, The Daily Wire, DeVory Darkins, JNS TV, Megyn Kelly & Joe Rogan, and the Trump campaign machine took advantage of internet media sources. Very few North Americans tuned into lamestream media, until the election had been called, and only because we wanted to see their commiserations, they did not disappoint.

Niall is correct. Elon in the Executive branch could be more important than Trump’s 2016 judicial appointee list. Coupled with a sweep of S & H, for the first time in a generation we have a chance to significantly bend the 50-100 year debt/gdp curve down. This generation’s smartest and greatest operator doesn’t need $2T; 10% efficiency gains and a deregulation bump to long term growth would preserve our children’s future. So much low hanging fruit for someone who is untouchable. It would dwarf tax cuts, which are a media red herring. Elon can put government spending and efficiency in the zeitgeist. Finally.

    • @-dash
      @-dash 16 дней назад +1

Nah, the appointment of three Justices was Herculean as far as legacy is concerned. Their jurisprudence will likely outlive all of us- the Court is now the analytic counterweight to the Warren Court from the mid-20th Century.
Frankly, if _Dobbs_ and Originalism had cost us the 2024 election, it probably still would’ve been worth it in the long run (i.e. this century).

    • @deseosuho
      @deseosuho 16 дней назад

I think this is largely correct. Trump is no parliamentarian. Nor is he a crafter of careful legislation. He will change the government primarily through the executive branch. And who you hire and who you fire is a huge part of that. Here's to hoping that the federal government is treated like the twitter workforce.

The reason he voted for Harris--despite her mediocrity--is Trump. Many ex-Dems agree with Trump on many issues, but his character is petulant, mercurial and angry. During his first term he was ineffective in many areas ... ask HR--who he fired--if you are confused on this point. Trump loves the prestige more that the job and was no Reagan. Let's hope he does better this time around.

I got the impression he voted for Kamala because she seemed to him the "lesser of two evils" (Not accusing either candidate of actually being evil, just a figure of speech. I have American friends here in the UK who weeks ago voted by post for Trump, even though they intensely dislike him, his coarseness etc because in spite of everything they think about him, they also think that politically he's better for the country than Kamala. Voting for someone doesn't necessarily mean you think they're wonderful.

I'm actually not confident that this is the end of social justice cultural movement.
    2 things to consider:
    1) Social movements tend to have a lot of inertia, and can be persistent even in the face overwhelming adversity. Examples: communism, extreme Islamism. We even have nostalgia for antebellum South ('South will rise again!'). Never underestimate stupidity and stubbornness of people.
    2) It's not at all a given that 2nd Trump term will go well, even if the do everything right. There are many issues looming ahead: huge deficit, S China Sea, Russian aggression, Iran, N Korea, climate issues/natural disaster, etc. Any one of these, if they explode, can test the administration to its limits, and some may be beyond anyone's capability to solve. If such failures lead to a huge setback for US, surely the dejected progressives will again convince themselves that social justice is the solution all these problems.

The 'Shooter Flatch' aspect to the campaign of 2024 is the aspect of this election which stands out to one, looking at it from a European point of view, from 'across the pond'. Dennis Hopper played this character in a 1986 film named 'Hoosiers' about small town America and about Indiana's farming communities, and what sport, education, growing up and 'lessons learned' or showing example on the part of adults or mentors means in those smaller town social and cultural landscapes. Dennis Hopper acts the role of a former high school basketball participant whose young son is playing on the high school team, and 'Shooter' this character is projected into a position of responsibility, which he is incapable of carrying. The reason I think of the character of Shooter and of small town rural landscapes in 2024. Is the scene in which Shooter as the coach talks about 'the picket fence'. There's a way in which we can game this out, to our advantage. And I think of November and December of 2020 in Washington DC and New York city, in the community of journalists who worked and reported for national scale newspaper titles. There were an amazing amount of journalists in late 2020, who were in a hurry to talk about the play's that they ran. There were suddenly these Shooter Flatch types everywhere who were desperate to claim credit. Where are those folks in November 2024? And what are they saying now. Those same media people, who had space afforded to them to write columns in 2020, explaining how clever they were then. That is what set in motion the process whereby one ends up now, from a Democratic party perspective in late '24. Because what people all forgot, in what I've referred to as the 'Shooter Flatch' crowd then, what they over- inflated was their own contributions. What they totally under- estimated was the contribution made by their own candidate, Joesph P. Biden. Because even in 2020, you still needed to be a hell of a candidate to defeat that Trump momentum. Post 2020, there were so many Democratic apparatchik types in a rush to congratulate and back slap one another, the confirmation bias set in then. The notion that 'the candidate' didn't matter so much, as did 'running the picket fence' on the opposition. So in '24 it became all about playbooks, drawing circles and lines on the copybook. In the 1986 film and story, it reached a point at which the small town high school team of basketball players, because they represented their own town and it's people, they just wanted to win or lose the right way. They were done running picket fences, and ultimately, done playing games. It had gotten too real, it had gotten too important. In 2024 in the election in north America, the nonsense and the fluff got brushed to one side. Things became real. And Shooter type characters lost was minor bit of influence they may have believed was in their own grasp. In the future if the decide to do so, they may be ready to shoulder an actual duty if care and of responsibility. I will wait for that.

I disagree with Niall Ferguson regarding Trump’s second term. When you consider that he fought for four years to regain the presidency and when you consider the mandate and the powerhouse team behind who HAS HIS BACK, I think this will be the heralding of the golden age.

Not right, Niall. The Puerto Rico comment was followed by a Biden "deplorable" moment a day after the comedian's comment when Biden, possibly in an effort to hurt Harris, called all Trump supporters "garbage". This is why Trump used the truck.

This election was over in the Spring. This was a result of locked-in belief, not late movement to one side over the other. She clawed some of Biden's losses back, but clearly not enough.

On pollsters, Rasmussen was exactly right and used large sample sizes.
