A lot of commenters seem perplexed as to what he's saying. Partly it's because I think he's not sure how to tie it all together himself. On the one hand, he's taking a historical view and saying, today's western civilization is an heir to Christian civilization, and concepts like progress and the end of the world are somehow descended from Christian teleology and eschatology, and that was a paradigm shift from pagan antiquity, which believed more in eternal cycles. Then on the other hand, he's trying to deal with the various apocalypses of technological modernity, real, possible, and imagined, everything from Hiroshima and the Holocaust to death by AI or by climate change. And while he has some worry about these existential risks, he's also worried that in order to deal with them, there will be a totalitarian world government, and he proposes that this too has its counterpart in Christian eschatology, possibly the Antichrist. But then he also brings up this quite obscure biblical term "Katechon", which is something that holds back the Antichrist until the true end arrives. It is apparently a role that both Catholic and Orthodox churches have assigned to themselves. It also appears in the thought of Carl Schmitt, a Nazi-era political philosopher whose ideas have some currency in today's post-conservative intellectual right-wing. I don't know the role it plays in Schmitt's thought, but he lives through Germany's mid-20th-century apocalypse - in which Germany first embraced the fascist cult of Hitler, and was then devastated along with most of Europe in a new world war - so I assume he was falling back on the older categories of religious thought, in order to understand what had happened to his civilization. So part 2 may reveal the punchline, that this odd attempt to apply biblical categories to the nightmares of 21st-century technical civilization, is another chapter in the Trump-era right-wing's search for a philosophical alternative to liberalism and socialism.
At the age of 18, my eloquent biology instructor, who I thought was brilliant, told us that except for accidents, we would never die. I’m in my 8th decade of life. Should I ask for a tuition refund?
Apart from God, who we have forgotten and few seek, (What is the chief end of man?), we destroy our selves. Read Revelation 6. Then, it gets really bad when God’s wrath is revealed. Repent and cry out to God for mercy. He has made a way for us to know His and find peace. The way is Jesus.
The world has ended over and over again for billions of people, for as long as humanity has lived on earth. There are fragments of ancient and fallen civilizations all over the world. Welcome to eternity. 😊
Wrong. It does have a predictive element. Three examples are Christ’s first and second comings and the Jews return to their homeland before Christ’s return.
@@alm4737 And only the wealthy and influential Jews were exiled, as is always the case with a conquering army. The poor were left behind. See for example the fact that synagogues have been built in every century in Palestine for the past 2000 years.
I'm on minute 28. I don't know why people are describing this as incomprehensible. I'm an atheist and it's entirely coherent. But, I suppose it won't make sense if you take modernity at face value, even if you are a "conservative" modernist.
It's tied together in the last two minutes. Calling Daniel rather than Herodotus the first historian is a fascinating turn. It throws everything said up until then into relief.
He is a prophet speaking to those guided by the Holy Spirit, as Revelation 1:1 declares it is for the servants of God, the 144,000 are a select few who can be likened to spiritual Supermen.
Regarding not retreating from the polity for reasons of "personal sanctification", Thiel is also right from a biblical perspective. Christians are to "work hard for the good of the city in which we've been sent into exile," not retreat from the polity to court the eschaton.
Rod Dreher did not write "The Benedict Option" about people dropping out. It was about people forming Christian communities in a post-Christian age, a parallel polis, but they remain in the world, not in a monastery. But yes, we preserve Christianity through drawing together. - - I'm actually disappointed that you, Peter, have misunderstood Rod Dreher, who is a fine Christian thinker. I believe he would be a good guest for this show.
40:30 It is hitting the accelerator toward the day of the Lord. The return of Christ maranatha. Your little party here will be over. Are you upset that this may usher in the return of Jesus and justice and peace? Are you loving this world more than you are loving His return?
My critique of Peter Thiel is similar to my critique of Jordan Peterson. Both have a kind of sociological understanding of things, Thiel from a technological basis, Peterson from a psychological basis. However, neither really seems to have anything resembling a metaphysical understanding of reality. That, I suppose, is just a result of our truncated education today. This leads them to have oftentimes truthful but superficial analyses.
16:32 nothing bad comes from G-d because everything is moving His system of government toward the ultimate good: closeness/relative unification with G-d. The manifestation of evil is man’s selfishness. Because man is the only creature that can know himself by himself he gets confused and believes himself to be comparable to G-d, so to speak. So in his selfishness, he disobeys G-d’s commandments and creates what is evil in actuality. Thus man has free choice. And it is because he has free choice that he can merit to one day become close to G-d, in the future world, that is through his choices he must overcome his selfishness and become a being that is capable of becoming close with the Ultimate Unity.
And justice is not just punishing bad its also rewarding good. Everything is measure for measure and this is perfect justice but it can only be administered by G-d who knows absolutely everything….and whatever penalty you receive is generally meant to lead you back to the good so even in what seems harsh is for the good.
Credit to Rod Dhreher who popularized the 'Benedict Option' but the OG of the concept was Alasdair MacIntyre. See his 1981 book, After Virtue..."We are waiting, not for a Godot, but for another-doubtless very different-St. Benedict "
There is a real discrepancy between human’s consciousness, spirituality, morality and cognitive, scientific activity, creativity. We are living on the doorstep of the new dark, medieval ages where total control over humans becomes more important than growth, productivity and invention. Generally the humanity have to overcome the gap between low level of consciousness and high level of rational mind, between wisdom and knowledge, life and will to power...
The driver of all of the existential risks except the “totalitarian world government” one is the externalization of the cost. Can humans not externalize the cost of their actions and factor it into the new solutions? It’s not profitable if the profit is measured in money and power to obtain more money. Only non-human anti-human totalitarian can restrain humans from terminating themselves by externalization of the cost

His comment about the OLD TESTAMENT is very revealing. The Old Testament was in real ways replaced by the NEW TESTAMENT. Which if you read your Bible is a NEW COVENANT. It is the narrow path that Thiel is looking for. Psychologically. Spiritually etc. Now I am going to see what I can glean from Wikipedia about him. He seems to be a deeply conflicted person.
The OT was never replaced. The NT in fact is meant to conceal it. The only good things in the NT are what it stole from the OT, which was the only Scripture Jesus knew! Paul wrote most of the NT and he was a raving nutcase, and he was certainly not Jewish.
The last time we didn't trust what God said, sin and death entered the world. Jesus said He is returning soon to judge humanity. Maybe we should trust Him this time and accept His gift of pardon for our sins before it's too late. We will all live forever; it's just a matter of where.
They never mention the permanent hypothesis of Darwin ... which will always remain a hypothesis and NEVER gain the respectability of being called a theory if real scientific knowledge is applied! Darwinism is the enemy of God's greatest achievement ... (which is followed by various tweaks of 'The Anything But God' variations) ...
According to Christians' own beliefs the plan of salvation doesn't work. What if you go to heaven and then you rebel against god? Or if something else happens to alienate you from god? By contrast the plan of damnation looks more plausible because it's not obvious why that wouldn't work.
Humans have talked about end times since the start of time. Jesus(Christianity) or any of the multitude of religions that predates yours by millenias, including mine that talks about ragnarok, yet we are still here. So ease up, live your life to the best of your abilities, what ever is on the other side, you will find out soon enough.
All our knowlege brings us near to our ignorance, All our ignorance brings us nearer to death, But nearness to death, no nearer to God. Where the the Life we have lost in living? Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge? Where is the knowledge we have lost in information?
Our world's current "Church at Laodicea" is the last stage of Christianity as conveyed to the apostle John by Jesus Christ in The Book of the Revelation. It is simply no match for the ever-strengthening power of Evil in the world. The restraining power of the Holy Spirit is diminishing and will eventually be taken away, introducing the final seven years of Tribulation.

Thiel begins with conjecturing beyond the opening quote from the book of Matthew; then what follows is opinion - from plausible to incoherent - and on to the delusional and bizarre. Like Musk, a specialist, he has an opinion on anything and everything.
allowing yourself to have an opinion on anything and everything and believing everything under the sun is amenable to the human mind's natural ability to discern things is how you become wildly successful. it's no coincidence you see this tendency in so many pioneering people.

Still an interesting take, specially given he's got a very good track record of having a finger in the pulse of the zeitgeist and can see general trends earlier than most. He does not have to be perfect to be worth hearing, and listener's discretions and own critical considerations are obviously a given.

The interview is incoherent _to you_ because _you_ don't understand it. If you've been to a challenging school, you are familiar with the experience of not being able to keep up with a lecture. _The limitation is often with you, not the content or presentation of the lecture_ . If you took a graduate hard science in university, then this was definitely a familiar experience. Humility means recognising that there are many other people more intelligent than us, and that we may not be intelligent enough to recognise our own limitations in every context, and as a result, more intelligent people's conversations simply won't be comprehensible to us. The result is frustration or outrage, a knee-jerk emotional response. Instead of wailing like a child and accusing the speaker, we could take a few hours to write notes on what we remember from the talk, then write down what we don't understand, what we think we understood , and think harder to bridge the gap between ourselves and others whom we don't understand. Or not. 😅 We could just only watch the pabulum we easily digest and never extend ourselves beyond that! Netflix and vegetate!
Those are fools that don't know the real adversary are the hive mind cultists of materialist and spiritual communism. That's why Satan is referred to as legion
What a fascinating conversation. Of course an Evangelical theology would see all of the wrath of God poured out through Jesus at the cross. The Judgement at the end of ages is the Jewish Day of the Lord, where every wrong is righted and everything that is crooked is made straight. As the Psalmist often repeats, the poor long for the Judgement. It also marks the end of the old creation recreated as a new Heaven and Earth in the recreation that begins at Jesus' resurrection. That which tends to death has to have an end or a restoration.
Christians and Jews both believe there will still be wrath in the end times. 1. Wars and Rumors of Wars Jesus acknowledges that conflicts will occur, saying: “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.” (Matthew 24:6) He assures his followers that these events are part of a larger plan and not a reason for fear. 2. Nation Rising Against Nation He describes tumultuous times: “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.” (Matthew 24:7-8) The imagery of “birth pains” suggests these are signs leading to something new, not hopeless chaos. 3. Do Not Be Afraid “When you hear of wars and uprisings, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away.” (Luke 21:9) He emphasizes trust in God’s sovereignty, encouraging his followers to remain faithful. 4. Be Prepared and Watchful Jesus advises vigilance rather than fear: “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.” (Matthew 24:42) His teaching focuses on readiness and staying faithful, not being overwhelmed by fear of the unknown. 5. Peace in Him Jesus reminds his followers of his ultimate victory over the world: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
The deeper dissonance in the "Benedictine option" is the question-begging presupposition that the divide lies between getting "involved" by battling the evil on the front lines, as it were, and cloistering oneself away simply to "sanctify" one's own soul. The question-begging presupposition is that one knows what "sanctify" means, and in its blithe attribution to a cloistered existence. By what spiritual metric is the "Benedictine metric" taken automatically to convey sanctity? What IS sanctity? What is righteousness? What is holiness? Does it all simply mean not "sinning"? By that measure a mushroom or a mugwort are perfectly holy, righteous and sanctified inasmuch as they never do anything sinful. Yet Christ said, "For their sakes I sanctify myself...." How was Christ's self-sanctification worked out? By what kind of life? How did His righteousness and holiness manifest? By doing nothing? Or even just by doing nothing bad?
You gents are missing what most do, it's not man, nor the Antichrist doing most of the damage - it comes from the heavens. Not going to stop that. Recommend you read Isaiah 24 🙏😉🙏
And they take in two of each kind, so in addition to Peter Thiel, they also take in Elon Musk. So that they may be fruitful and multiply after the flood.
Humans have talked about end times since we crawled down from the tree's and is the very basic of religious cults. Yet we are still.here, So when ever someone starts talking about "end times" I just tune out and move on..
Evolution has enabled humans to do science and technology. It has also helped us survive by being greedy and selfish, which is leading to destruction of nature. No need for religion to understand the state of the world.
If you understood anything about reality you would know that we don't understand it at all. Chasing that perfect understanding is akin to seeking God. Believing absolutely in theories is literal dogma. Religion is a natural part of human existence just like your greed and selfishness. It never leaves just evolves
The toughest job in the world would be to interrogate Thiel. This is a voluntary interview on a subject he is apparently interested in, but I am on minute 20 and, if not for Robinson's intervention, I could barely comprehend what Thiel is talking about. I hope this is received as a compliment - he might be utterly capable inother areas, as, apart from the obsecure reference to some academic, his speech and rethoric is barely college level.
I was about to comment above that "I quit after 9 minutes," but I read your comment and find you too generous, gracious. Robinson has asked Dr. Thomas Sowell countless questions and ALWAYS received a concise, logical, and supported answer. I'll skip part 2.

I believe that everything is slowing down cause we have everything in place for the end times all the nations of the world are in the valley of Jehoshaphat For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever shall believe in him shall not perish but have everlasting life
Very interesting. But you guys did not mention the earth poles shift or space weather impacts which can also be cataclysmic and bring on the last apocalypse.
People want to understand the dark sayings of old, but they do not comprehend what they are saying or the matters about which they make confident assertions
None of this can be explained or understood fully apart from an understanding of the struggle of good vs evil. Mankind is not good - we are fallen, sinful creatures resisting the kingdom of God. Until we repent and embrace salvation through Jesus Christ, we cannot succeed in living a just and righteous life that chases evil doers back into the shadows to hide. Everything Jesus, Daniel, and Paul warned in the scriptures is to be fulfilled literally. And we are going to see all this come to fruition within the next decade or two.

I believe the loss of optimism regarding AI is simply a reflection of lack of confidence in humankind in general.
The violence will come from human being because they will not look at the problems through the lenses of love but rather to those of survival.

Thiel is setting his vision for the revival of America 🇺🇸
Because you aren't properly initiated with the subject matter
Physiognomy on point!
Where are they getting Peter’s quotes from? Did he write a new essay?
I’ve heard some Christians say that this man is building the beast system. A.k.a Palentir
Helped the NSA spy on the world.
Those are fools that don't know the real adversary are the hive mind cultists of materialist and spiritual communism. That's why Satan is referred to as legion
Interesting. Who is saying that?
😂
No fear. Who controls the Palantir in the books? White Wizard…or the King…Aragorn
Scoffers shall come, saying "Where is this Messiah"
Lots if people have picked a Century and here we are.
Shouldn't Thiel simply support ethnic nationalism if what he is looking for is to prevent the formation of a totalitarian one world government?
How do you have that? We are so ethnically mixed. Populations have moved all around the world for generations.
Peter Thiel: Apocalypse? In order to proof the Bible is right I do that myself.
1. Wars and Rumors of Wars
Jesus acknowledges that conflicts will occur, saying:
“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.” (Matthew 24:6)
He assures his followers that these events are part of a larger plan and not a reason for fear.
2. Nation Rising Against Nation
He describes tumultuous times:
“Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.” (Matthew 24:7-8)
The imagery of “birth pains” suggests these are signs leading to something new, not hopeless chaos.
3. Do Not Be Afraid
“When you hear of wars and uprisings, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away.” (Luke 21:9)
He emphasizes trust in God’s sovereignty, encouraging his followers to remain faithful.
4. Be Prepared and Watchful Jesus advises vigilance rather than fear:
“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.” (Matthew 24:42)
His teaching focuses on readiness and staying faithful, not being overwhelmed by fear of the unknown.
5. Peace in Him
Jesus reminds his followers of his ultimate victory over the world:
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
This should be interesting.
Fascinating, as always. Thank you Peter and Peter.
He wants to avoid the anti-christ... in other words, he wants to change/modify God's word... These folks are out of their minds...
You gents are missing what most do, it's not man, nor the Antichrist doing most of the damage - it comes from the heavens. Not going to stop that. Recommend you read Isaiah 24 🙏😉🙏
There is no I in A I.
There is non in A.S. either, artificial stupidity. Cause non of us is as dumb as all of us.
And in the final days it will be like until the days of Noah and everyone will become Amish and start making timber frame boats
And they take in two of each kind, so in addition to Peter Thiel, they also take in Elon Musk. So that they may be fruitful and multiply after the flood.
I sure hope not
Haven’t heard too many honest things he has done.
Read Oswald Spengler's "The Decline of the West."
What wrong with being greedy, selfish and the destruction of nature apart from religious presuppositions?
"And Alexander wept, for there were no more worlds left to conquer." That one's not from the Bible, by the way.
Our brains are wired to scan for danger, so this topic will always be common. But what if things get better and better instead?
Great conversation (thank you). When does part 2 drop?
wow Thiel aged, gone is the buffed bro look from years ago.
The toughest job in the world would be to interrogate Thiel.
This is a voluntary interview on a subject he is apparently interested in, but I am on minute 20 and, if not for Robinson's intervention, I could barely comprehend what Thiel is talking about.
I hope this is received as a compliment - he might be utterly capable inother areas, as, apart from the obsecure reference to some academic, his speech and rethoric is barely college level.
>his speech and rhetoric is barely college level
>I could barely comprehend what Thiel is talking about
Interesting conversation but yeah, every answer was “I don’t know” “who’s to say” lol
I was about to comment above that "I quit after 9 minutes," but I read your comment and find you too generous, gracious. Robinson has asked Dr. Thomas Sowell countless questions and ALWAYS received a concise, logical, and supported answer. I'll skip part 2.
He's inarticulate and barely coherent
I don't think you are less than college level.
When Ernst Blofeld episode?

I believe that everything is slowing down cause we have everything in place for the end times all the nations of the world are in the valley of Jehoshaphat
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever shall believe in him shall not perish but have everlasting life

Facebook didn’t invented social networks, that’s nuts
Him and Bill Gates!!! Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm??? God directs all of Mankiond's fortune!!! Good and Not Good!!!
Very interesting. But you guys did not mention the earth poles shift or space weather impacts which can also be cataclysmic and bring on the last apocalypse.
Adam Smith did not live in the 19th century. He died in 1790; The 18th Century.
People want to understand the dark sayings of old, but they do not comprehend what they are saying or the matters about which they make confident assertions
Sounds like he is talking about the USAP Classification system
When is Hoover gonna address the NHI/alien revelations coming out?
The most idiotic conversation on this planet all you need for the ticket price is a bunch of idiot cash
Where is part 2?
Life span is related to wealth. In America the concentration of wealth is killing people.
Re: Computer ADVANCEMENT. Watch the videos being dumped by NVIDIA.
Why won't "smart people" discuss the Article V Convention?
Where is part 2
I love the series you have going with Peter - most of the conversation just seems too abstract though
The ordinary is abstraction. This is the real
Use AI to explain it to you on your level and have a dialogue with the transcript.
A wonderful by-passing of minds.

Good episode
Armageddon (Har Megido) is simply a place of battle (a bit west of Haifa, Israel), not the end of the world.
For those with eyes to see find Ammon Hillman and rid yourselves of these apocalypse religions and understand your true potential
excited!
