I woke up this morning with this song in my head,... when I drove my 15 year old son to school, ask him to look for the song and crank it up !!!!!.. Good memories back in Crystal Lake Illinois.
I met Jimmy back in 98' I've been in the music business over 35 years and was first and only time I've been star struck. My life hasn't been the same since.
Powerful lyrics, very intense emotion, this band had the best of other bands and it showed! It was a great Era in music that doesn't seem too be in existence anymore.

Paul Rodgers has the best rock voice ever. The Firm was one of the best projects bands of the 80's. I was 12 when I saw Jimmy Page with The Yardbirds in 1966. That moment changed my life and I got into music after that. Page was playing guitar. They were a three piece band with a singer, Keith Relf, who died in 1976 in an accident. Jeff Beck and bassist, Paul Samwell Smith, both quit. The 2nd guitarist, Chris Dreja, took over on bass. The Firm brings back memories of those days.
Kind of feel bad for today's kids. No Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Van Halen... to grow up with. Paul Rodgers and Jimmy Page were a great collaboration. Loved The Firm
@@magic5596 I know this song is THE FIRM !!! They were NOT around in 73 and did not record Seagull like you claim in your post ....I Quote......."They've been around since 1973. Listen to the old stuff. Event the more obscure tracks, like Seagull" So I think you are the one that is mistaken .
Big Log drum sounds are a Roland TR-808 drum machine. A far cry from John Bonham. But it worked for this song. it was Robert chasing the bounds of rock.
Just randomly thought of this song and video, after not hearing or seeing it for a long time and whataya know, thanx to RUclips, just like magic here it is, wow!
I can't explain what this line up does for for me. I love music emotionally and this is song, and this album does it for me. Jimmy Page and Paul Rodgers made a fantast combo along with the other members.
One of the greatest songs of 1986. This got a lot of radio play. D.J.'s just seem to love spinning this one. Of course who wouldn't love to here Paul Rogers singing anyway. From Free, Bad Company, The Firm and beyond...Paul is one of the greatest front men of the 70's, 80's, and 90's. He still sounds incredible live even to this day. Check out the regroup live DVD he did with Bad Company a few years back called "Merchants of Cool" which is unreal good.
The voice of Paul Rodgers puts the flame in this song. I miss all the great songs from yesteryear when the stereo used to be a great thing to turn on. Thanks to RUclips I can go back to those days where the good stuff lives on.
This is last time the Firm was together in 1986 and I thank my lucky stars for being die hard fan for 34 years since 1985 and I can't see a reunion this year or not and I'm not sure what will happen next and I grew up with the songs that they were famous for in the 1980's when they were popular back in the day when I was a kid in the 1980's!🎶🎸🎸🥁🎤📻🌎
I saw The Firm in 84' here in L.A..Incredible show..Paul Rodgers-Jimmy Page-Tony Franklin-Cris Slade...I saw Paul & Jimmy a year earlier at "The Ronnie Lane's Appeal To ARMS Benefit" also here in L.A. What a night!!!!
Remember the days when there were hundreds of popular bands and almost every day brought a great new song on the radio? Today's kids have zero idea what they missed out on but YET still believe that these times are the greatest. Sad....
I really love this song! It's my favorite of the Firm stuff. The feeling Paul puts into this song is just beautiful. The music is nice and mellow too. It's just a nice song all around. I'm sad it doesn't get airplay now, while Radioactive and Satisfaction Guaranteed still do...
Im a big zep fan and I have always been asked. Who is my favorite lead singer. My answers Robert Plant every time but I just had an awakening. Paul is the greatest vocalist of all friggin time. THE FIRM could have ruled the airways if they had stayed together long enough. Saw them at The Boston Garden in the 1980.s I was 4 rows from the stage. F*****ng awesome. WTF, I hate being old now : (
Giving some credit to.. The drummer. Chris Slade. Recorded with: Tom Jones, Manfred Mann's Earth Band, The Firm and of course.. AC/DC.. A very underated drummer.
I saw the Firm live in Kansas City back in the 80s. Jimmy Page performed the guitar solo from his Led Zepplin Dazed and Confused. When he finished the crowd was silent and motionless for a second - he hypnotized us all.
Oh my gosh! Been wanting to hear this since it was burned out upon release 40 years or give or take..this one's special.. another one I'll never forget playing in the background of my teenage mind. Ugh I wanna stop singing it!!!!!! Lol
Paul Rodgers is an extreme rarity: a rock vocalist who can perform live just as well as in the studio. The only others I can think of are Ronnie James Dio, Bruce Dickinson and Ann Wilson, and on his best night, Chris Cornell.

NO idea why this record didn't do better. Classic lineup and was just as good if not better than the first Firm record and I loved that record. Why didn't more people buy it is a mystery. Would have loved to hear a third record from them.
Check out all their music. They didn't release much. There's a lot of critics, but I think Rodgers voice complimented Jimmy's sound perfect, and vice versa. Critics also didn't like the fretless bass, said it was too loud and overwhelmed the song. I agree, but LIKED it for that reason. Check out their albums, you wont be disappointed!
I remember this popular song because I know they played this song was terrific though but I remember watching this video once before I'm still amazed at this footage from 1980's I think it's kinda Awesome to say is this the firm will be my favorite group from the 1980's!!
Yes, since he was looking healthy and ever so wonderful again it's a shame we couldn't see more of him in this video, but then, I always want to see and hear more of him :)
Caught them in '85 in the old Boston Garden and they rocked the house ! Paul, Jimmy and Chris Slade STILL rock. For an even better example of Chris' muscular and precise percussion work, check out the live videos on here for AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" from the Thunderstruck tour (1990-91; Castle Donington is my fave). This is a double suggestion I was listening to a friend D78's Playlist and came across The Firm then a family member started shouting that he had told me about them months ago ( I totally wasn't listening sorry) and demanded that I check this one out. So here I am, also awesome. TY both D78 and LR☺
Enough compressed sand and you can make a rock, but it takes work and dedication and nerves of steel. Just because you started out without a firm foundation doesn't mean you can build a tower of love , Love , yes love never fails
I bought Mean Business right when it hit the record stores, just as I had the debut Firm album. They had already been playing All The Kings Horses on FM and MTV for a few weeks, just as they had done Radioactive before the first album. In both cases, the preview singles didn’t really sell me; but I took a chance anyway based on just my admiration for these heroes. You often can’t judge by debut singles. So I put on Mean Business a few times; and something about the murky production of that album - I just couldn’t stay with it; and I haven’t listened to it much in all these years. But I just put on Mean Business today for no particular reason. It played along in the background for a while; and then, buried on side two of the album starts playing a song called Dreaming; I stopped and listened; and I thought “oh yeah, this is the one song I really really love on this album!” - so as I always do, I looked to see who was the songwriter - and lo and behold - IT’S TONY FRANKLIN!!!
I look at a group like The Firm and see four extremely talented musicians, not one of which was 'featured' like so many songs today are labeled. How sad it has to be the notoriety to be a part of the song instead of just being a part of the group! That was the reason for the list of credits on the album jacket.Oh well, guess I show my age by saying something like that.
Amazing how singers and musicians compliment each other. Osborne/iommi, scott/young, etc. These two paired up perfectly. Shame it didn't last, but grateful for what they released.
Jimmy Page proves once again that an understated beautiful tone can make an ordinary arena rock song sound classic after all of these years. Although not possessed with intense speed like Eddie Van Halen or Steve Vai, Page's beautiful guitar tones set the intense mood for Zeppelin and on the many songs for The Firm. Much like Clapton, Page squeezes the juice out of every note that he plays. Just listen to his guitar work on "In the Evening", which is one of my all-time favorites and that will show what I mean.
