  • Yeah, it's a good optic. Is it perfect? No. But the Primary Arms Nova SLx is probably the new defacto budget scope, ticking all the right boxes.

My totally novice comparison between my P4Xi and Slx Nova 1-6
-Illumination is brighter on the nova. Stupid bright. Wish it came with the shake awake function though.
-Eyebox is better on the P4Xi
-Glass is a little better on the P4XI
-Mag ring is little tighter on Nova, but not overly tight like Brassfact's sample.
-The nova cost me $224 with their mil discount, that's a crazy good deal and it's an awesome scope. Wish they would make a SFP Plx model with the fiberwire reticle.

Came here to say this. Did research on a lot of "entry level" LPVOs to try out the concept on my GPR. Bought this optic based on this review.
After multiple "active" range trips, I'm very happy with it. The 1x performance and the weight were the absolute deal makers, and the reticle is perfect for what I ask it to do.

That reticle in the Burris RT-6 would be king of the budget scopes. The the only thing I really hate about my RT-6 is that reticle and cloudy Michigan day noticeable illumination. Should get a PST but it's heavy and I'm too lazy to bulk up in the gym.

    • @lazybrute
      @lazybrute Год назад

@@wildtex9710 I should expand on my dislike. While shooting during the day the reticle isn't bold enough for my liking along with the illumination not being day light bright. What I would like is either a bright dot or really thick posts like the German #3 variant in the Trijicon TR24 or Leupold's Hog reticle. They're so thick that they work without needing to be illuminated. Also, if done well enough, the top of the 6'oclock post can be used for up close shooting. So, if I could redesign the RT6 reticle, I'd ditch the horse shoe and add 3 thick posts but leave the BDC because that is nice. However, my dislike of the reticle has not lead me to sell it or trade it off because in all reality is still is a very good and usable optic.

Without experience with either (meaning just the website specs) I'm looking to get the Vortex one. I have no interest in LPVOs and the old 2.5-10x routine is a bit outdated since LPVOs basically forced lower priced optics to have higher level erecters

    • @siegsouls

@@Longshot762x51 I believe that terms such as lpvos, mpvos, or even for rifles like Dmrs, Sprs, Gprs, Sbrs, Pdws, and etc, allow for a useful context on how that gear should be used, including the doctrine of use. Although it's not necessary or perhaps even annoying, I see it as a useful blanket term as any other.

Well damn. I didn't know they were going to release a more traditional ACSS version with the fiber wire. I immediately bought one of the gen 4 1-6, but the Aurora meter version. I love it, but it is my first LPVO. I was literally going to buy a Sog MSR the day before as it went on sale. Then I saw a thread pop up on arfcom just as I was about to hit checkout about the new Gen 4 NOVa and the darklordofoptics chimed in. Figured with the 12% off sale and the discount mount, the PA would not be much more and I wouldn't have the biggest downside of the Sig. The weird ballistic reticle that doesn't easily match anything. But the Sig mount is really nice.
But I did just send mine back the other day. The Energizer battery that was in mine went critical and my illumination was weird after that. So will give an updated opinion after the new one gets here.
But I did love it. It took a bit to get it positioned just right for me. But the scope looks so much better after you take the rear cap off. I didn't understand all the comments about the super thin bezels people were saying. Then I popped it off. So much nicer.

Ok, after watching the video I kinda feel mad the shipped this to me before I had a chance to cancel the order. Guess I will look through it after receiving for a day or two and then if I decide on getting a RDS/magnifier and switch my setup to a 12.5 (because surrounded by wood's, I have Field's that open up to a few hundred yards or so) but I really wanted that 6x, just thought the glass would be better, then again since i may never have it out past 100 except occasionally i may trick myself into liking it. Would you run this on your go to GPR as a primary optic? Idk because kinda looks like if I drop it that wouldn't be good.

I have one of these scopes. I've taken it out to 500m with 77gr rounds out of a 14.5 BCM pin and weld setup.
Glass is pretty clear and illumination is absolutely excellent. Reticle is alright but it is a bit thick and i wish it gave me more holds. For the price its excellent though. I just wish it would have been a 1-8x and id love to see this tech in a mid tier price point like the glx series.

I could live without 8x if the reticle was just a little bit thinner. That's really my biggest complaint. Did you use a 100yard zero or a 50yard? I've been using a 100yd zero and all the holds line up when shooting on a meter range using 77gr AAC ammo EXCEPT the 500m hold. That one is a bit off with the 77s from AAC. I've heard some guys use a 50/200 zero for 77 but I haven't tried that yet.

    I have a budget 16" pencil build that's running a UTG 1-8x28. W/ BG4 reticle.
For $200 including mount, I'm honestky impressed. The reticle is simple and effective, and the glass isnt bad for a $200 scope. It holds zero very well.
The illumination kind of sucks, though, and the turrets aren't great. Turret locking mechanism is a little ghetto, but is very secure when you actually tighten it down.
But... its an LPVO, and I'm already running a top dot on it. Dialing isn't something I see myself needing on a 16" LPVO rig.
If you want to save money on a training rifle,
I recommend looking at it. It's been on a 16" bushmaster in carbine length gas system ($350 for the rifle in 2018, I currently have less than $800 in the whole build, including dot, light, stock etc.) and because its a cheap build, I have spared it no mercy, and its held up to every ounce of abuse I've thrown at it.
In practice, its actually a 0.8-0.9 to 7-ish power, but I've been able to successfully take it out to 500-600 yards consistently, which is about as far as you'd take a 16" 5.56 build.
I wouldn't really consider it for a duty rifle setup... but if youre poor like I was when getting into the AR world, its definitely a good buy to get you started.

Ok Swampfox 1-10 is 20 oz and offers a real reticle with illumination option. Shop well its about $450-600. You may not need the 6-10 zoom, but Swampfox has a 1-8 at 19 oz. This seems to me not to special and possible a bad fit if looking for weight savings/performance/cost.

I want to get their 1-10x SLx SFP with ACSS reticle even though your rant said 1-10x's suck. I just want to be able to reach out to 1k yards with my .308 not for precision but just be able to hit a 3 MOA or so target out that far and the extra 2x is going to make quite a difference at that 1k yard mark. I think it's a great deal for just under $500. I have a Gen 1 MD-25 and I really love the ACSS reticle over the 2 MOA dot I just wish it had shake awake but Gen 2 has it so I just need to upgrade and then it will be perfect. My MD-25 is very clear and crisp even though it's SLx glass, the chevron/horseshoe and BDC are much more precise than the 2 MOA dot, uses a knob instead of buttons so no accidentally changing your settings, has 2 night vision settings if you are cool enough to have NODS and 11 settings total and is bright enough for those super sunny days and 50k hours of battery life on setting 5 brightness. I practice out in public BLM land, so I prefer to shoot out at 100 yards and further, so I really need to get a magnifier I feel the BDC drops and wind holds will be much more easier to use under a magnifier than without one.

I have this PA 1-10x SFP scope with griffin mil ACSS reticle on a AR10 in 308 of which I was banging steel out to 695 yards yesterday!!…. There’s some caveats you need to consider:
1)the ACSS griffin IS MIL reticle and the adjustment are in MOA, so this LPVO is for strictly holdovers. No dialing in.
      2) clarity at 10x is ok… but the 308 heats up the barrel (especially suppressed) giving mirage after 20+ rounds and it becomes less clear. You will need to be at 10x for the holdovers to be correct past 350 yards.
      3) at 10x the Eyebox is really tight and you’ll need to position your scope closer to the stock or rear of the rifle. You’ll need to mange the 308 recoil so that you can spot your shots, if not, you’ll loose your sight picture.
Overall this LPVO is very good for a niche application such as my 308 battle rifle set up. It’s SFP at 1x allows for good usage of the illumination and horseshoe reticle for close engagement (50 yards and in) and the fish eye is not too bad at all. With a 40-50 yard zero, it’s point and shoot up to 250-300 yards at any magnification (5x-8x is best clarity to eye relief ratio)
Just my extensive real world $0.02 cents

I haven’t watched the whole video yet. I already sold my Nova I had preordered when it was first announced. I liked everything except the imagine focusing. I live in a heavily wooded environment and if I powered up I would have to adjust the focus quite a bit to get a clear imagine and then when I brought it back down to 1x it was completely out of focus again and had to be adjusted. That was my first personally owned LPVO and I just wasn’t a fan. The 1x was very good though and the image was clear through all ranges of magnification but I hated having to adjust the focus every time I changed magnifications.
