Ping Yan totally agree!! My vintage bag has this amazing gorgeous gold on the hardware. Doesn’t look the same!! And the vintage green my mom gave me.... the leather is soooo much softer!!
Louis Vuitton’s price increases are understandable and accepted however Chanel is beyond ridiculous now. Perhaps if there wasn’t a global pandemic we wouldn’t be so disappointed with this move at this time. Nevertheless seems Chanel wants to outshine HERMES. That won’t happen if they don’t fix their quality control !

The following is a quote from the care booklet that might interest you, ‘The metal parts of your handbag are gilded with an alloy containing 24-carat gold, which is sometimes sensitive to sea air and the acidity of the skin, and may eventually wear off. Clasps, chains and other metal parts can be re-gilded. Ask your CHANEL boutique for an estimate.’ Chanel has stopped using real gold alloy on hardware since around 2006 to 2008, according to Yoogi’s Closet.

I do remember the days when a Chanel classic flap was in the $2K. My college friend got one and I was like, “why did you spend so much on a granny bag?” 🤣 I didn’t like the style nor the price then. Then a few years later I stared appreciating the classic flap (maybe because I got older 😂) but didn’t want to pay $3K for it. Another few years passed, I finally decided to bite the bullet and pay $5k for a medium flap as my birthday present, but they increased price again right before my birthday! 😡 Luckily, I was able to find an excellent one in the exact combination I wanted in the preloved market for $4K. Now I have 3 Chanel bags. I think I’m good for a while.
Mikey Chang we’re far from blind ... I just find their tactics really horrible... they’ve fired SAs ... they planned an increase long before COVID but are now using it to justify an up to 27% increase on their classics??? Sorry... but ethics are obviously not an issue for Chanel ... they know no matter what they do ... their bags will ALWAYS be coveted and there are more than enough uber-wealthy people that don’t care about price increases... and they obviously don’t care about consumers like me who cannot afford to buy 50 new bags every season... with this increase... I can’t even justify buying my usual one Chanel a year since I stopped buying everything they put out for several years. Just can’t afford it anymore... sorry Chanel ... I’m not rich enough for you... and now that your trying to be Hermès ... I’ll skip the one Chanel classic bag for this year and next and buy a Kelly. Try all they want ... Chanel will never eclipse Hermès 😊
OUTCLASSER Support Team I disagree... but that’s fine. Oh and not everyone wants Chanel ... I’ve lived in China Singapore Hong Kong to know that consumers there value Hermès far more. Chanel has its classic icons but they also come out with a ton of seasonal things that do not hold their value as investment pieces. Hermès does not follow this model ... yes they have more styles than the Kelly and Birken but Chanel literally puts out dozens of styles that are not classics or icons ... they are seasonal impulse purchases that most people wear for a very short time. Like the Girl Chanel ... that was a disaster... when something brings supercoveted ... they either add it to the classics while getting rid of things like the PST ... that was a very popular classic for years and they discontinued it. Or they do what they did with the Ligne Cambon line ... a lot more price friendly when it debuted... also aimed at a younger client base (similar to the LV murakami pieces) it got too popular... was worn by wealthy people but not the super wealthy people so they stopped the line. It was also heavily copied in the fakes ... but so are the classic flaps ... reissues and boy bags but you don’t see them cutting these lines ... these they just increas prices on year after year but mark my word ... very few people covet a Chanel flap ... compared to a Birken or Kelly. I got my first flap for 1500 dollars in 2004 ... the bag today looks exactly the same and costs at least 5 grand. When Kelly’s and Birken’s we’re become popular... they were already at price points that were unattainable while you could still get a Chanel flap for under $2000 ...
