Messy Bun Hair Tutorial

- We all have those crazy days that call for a good messy bun, and if you're a mom, you know exactly what I'm talking about. We get the real stuff done in our messy buns! I want to show you how to do a messy bun that is quick, easy, and makes you look put together while still looking effortlessly beautiful.
Ultra-Messy Bun
1. I’m going to start by my flipping my head over, gathering my hair at the top of my head, and then smoothing my hair out as best I can.
2. Secure your hair with a pony and create a bun by looping your hair through.
3. Pull out the hair bun to make it bigger and more messy. Tip, if you have dirty hair you can create a much bigger messy bun.
4. I’ve gotta have some hair around my face for me to love this hairstyle, so I just pull small pieces around my hairline, framing my face. It’s also a great way to hide some postpartum baby hair ;)
5. I also pull small sections of hair in the front to add texture and volume.
6. Since I do have postpartum hair coming in I will use some Kendra hairspray + a comb and just smooth it down by spraying and then combing.
This next messy bun is a little more sleek and not quite as messy - it’s probably my favorite to do!
Sleek Messy Bun:
1. Again I’m going to start by flipping my head over and gathering my hair at the top of my head, then begin smoothing it out (keep in mind, while smoothing you still want to get your pony at the top of your head so that you get a high messy bun rather than a low bun)
2. Next I will secure my hair with a ponytail holder, the first two times of wrapping it I will pull my hair fully through and on the last time I will only pull it partially through, creating a loop. Loosen that hair loop, and the take the ponytail, wrap it around the hairband, and secure by tucking it through the hairband. Be sure to leave just a few pieces out to make your messy bun appear more messy and effortless.
3. Again, I will pull small pieces of hair around my hairline to give myself some face framing, and then also loosen the top by pulling small pieces to create more volume.

Yes, product + waves will make a huge difference with the texture of your hair! a messy bun is usually better when your hair is dirty an has product in it. ;)

Yep it’s a real thing! Usually your hair gets thicker and doesn’t fall out much during pregnancy, then for 6 months after baby, your hair falls out like crazy (mostly just back to normal hair or a little thinner) but then it’s when those fallen out hairs start growing back... Baby hairs all over your head! Meh! Lol! But totally worth it for baby!!! ☺️
Thank you! What kind of hair band do you use? I have fine hair as well, but a lot of it. I use a regular hair elastic, but it almost feels like I need something thicker or more sturdy to hold my hair. Help!

I have a question my hair is only shoulder length but the back is shorter it’s not totally touching my shoulder. I cannot get it all up at once. Is there an easier way to do it
What hair tie are you using? I can't wrap my hair 3 times unless the elastic wears down, doesn't take long either cause I have long thick hair. I tried to do it only wrapping it twice but it definitely doesn't turn out well!

Hiiii, great video, def gonna try it again, but I have a lot of hair and its really thick and heavy. Do you have any suggestions for that? Also can you do a video with your sisters, for like teenage girls hairstyles? I would love it!
hi, the biggest thing I would suggest is to be sure that you have a high quality hair bad that can properly hold your thick hair, and also make sure that if has some good texture in it!

Josie, what are your favorite kind of ponytails? I recently bought the spiral hair ties because I heard they don't cause headaches, but I can't get them tight enough without breaking the hair tie.
Hi Michala, my favorite hair ties are currently the gimme beauty hair ties, they are amazing! they don't give me headaches and they also don't leave a crease in your hair.

The same techniques can still be used. You will just need to wrap your hair more and pull it out less since you have longer hair! hope this helps!
Could you do a hair tutorial for people who wear glasses? I know it sounds weird but it makes a huge difference with how a style looks.

I tried it 16 times and I'm getting so frustrated because it's not turning out the way hers is, I think it only works for thin or medium length hair because mine seems too long to act right

I'm really sorry you feel so self-conscious about your post-partum baby hairs. It would be nice though if you didn't berate it so much... some of us have *much* more noticeable baby hair, and hearing you say how much you hate yours makes at least me feel like I should be really self-conscious of mine, that other people probably notice it and think it's so ugly.
