      @cjco3145 Yes, agree, I think that's the best value iPad for Procreate right now, however from what I understood from the OP, they wanted to get an iPad for their daughter who may be a beginner to Procreate and in such case I recommend even more budget friendly options like iPad Mini 7 or iPad 10.

    Great video! I've been watching so many reviews yet I found no video that compares the 2024 iPad line up vs the iPad pro M2 mainly for drawing. Can you cover this topic? Thank you!

    • @artsideoflife
      @artsideoflife  4 месяца назад +4

      Hey Kate, the main reason is that the older lineup will soon be unavailable, except maybe second-hand or refurbished. As I mentioned in the video, the key difference with the new iPads is that they support the Apple Pencil Pro, which has extra features. Plus, the new iPads have better processors and screens-both great for Procreate. That said, if your iPad Pro M2 is still working well, I don't think you need to upgrade just yet. Hope this helps!

    Thank you! I want to get an ipad that's newer than the one I have, with my main use being procreate. I want it to be able to use the second Apple pencil so it will have more dynamic lines when I draw. I'm also on a budget so I'm trying to wait for a sale of some sort that will line up with wherever my finances are at the time. So far, i've seen folks say the Air is best. I have a larger older iPad right now that will only work with the first apple pencil/isn't dynamic, but I'd be find with a smaller one that has the features I want. I used a $55 drawing tablet off Amazon before, and haven't used the older iPad I got because it didn't have the dynamic features (and my drawing hyperfixation passed-- but hopefully comes back soon because I've got a long list of pieces I want to make!)

You will be getting the newest pencil and really the best value iPad for Procreate available today. The price is also really good and it will last you for years. I saw on your bio that you currently use a 5th generation Ipad Pro 12.9, would this be a good option for him? He is interested in Procreate but also to use the ipad for other features. I thought the bigger size would be nice and easier but I'm wondering if maybe smaller/lighter would be better? Any suggestions? Thank you for the video!

      Hey Erika, thank you for watching. That’s great your son wants to draw in Procreate. I wouldn’t recommend the 12.9 Pro I have - it might be too big and heavy for him. Neither the new 13”. If your budget allows I’d either go for the Pro 11” / Air 11” or a great beginner/budget iPad for Procreate - iPad 10. You can read more about it on my website artsideoflife.com/ipad-10-for-procreate-drawing-and-artists/ and if he already enjoys drawing on paper he might enjoy my Sketching brushes 😊 you can explore them on my website too artsideoflife.com/procreate/procreate-brushes/ Hope this helps ❤️

      I think ArtSideofLife makes a great point. The bigger iPads seem like the iPads would be heavier for a child. I would agree with her ! my friend bought an iPad like that, a big one 12” for her child. I would have assumed it’s too heavy but apparently the child prefers the bigger screen for drawing and the video game Roblox. Even I prefer bigger screen for video games but my iPad Pro is too heavy and too big for video games. I like the size of the Air or the 10th gen iPad for video games instead of a 12 or 13”. It really is just preference.

    Hello there, firstly;congrats on the video, it's extremely useful and informative.
    Second; I am a amateur illustrator, meaning it isn't unfortunately my main occupation but I have studied art and am pretty good at it. Up until this point I have been drawing and painting conventionally (paper and brushes) but I now feel the time for a transition has come. All my illustrator friends have advised me to get an Ipad and I'd love to finally get one but I am really debating on which one to get. I most definitely can't afford the most expensive one but want a decent one. I do know however I'd get a 13inch one, so the question is; between the 2022 Pro and a 2024 air, which one would you recommend?
    I'd love to hear back from you. Thanks❤

      @artsideoflife  4 месяца назад +1

      Hi Viola, thank you for watching. Glad you find it useful 😊 The 2022 iPad Pro is fantastic with its superior display, but I'd recommend the 2024 iPad Air for your needs. It supports the Apple Pencil Pro, which is a great improvement for Procreate. The Air also offers a great balance of performance and value for amateur illustrators transitioning to digital art.

      Hi Marlene, glad it was helpful 😊 if you are used to working in Photoshop for prints, then working in Procreate will be similar - you can setup canvas size and DPI as you need. The only limitation is number of layers. iPad Mini 7 won’t have many layers bcs of its small RAM so I’d recommend at least iPad Air M2 for any kind of serious design work. Have fun!

      Best Buy has the previous iPad Air for a good price and sometimes open box if you’re into that. You should go with what you’re comfortable affording. The iPad 10th gen isn’t bad. The only thing some people don’t like is that the screen isn’t laminated. It has a thonkkk sort of sound when drawing on it. Some like it some don’t. The Air 5 has a laminated screen and uses the Apple Pencil 2nd gen. Should go with what you’re comfortable spending and if you can afford the better one, go for it.

      Hey Deedo, thank you for watching 😊 For your use case I'd get the Air 13″ unless you have the budget for Pro 13″ and you want to splurge. The Pro Motion is Apple's marketing way of promoting the 120Hz screen. It doesn't slow down Procreate, only insufficient RAM would, which, unless you are using a very old iPad is not an issue. I’d say think about it like you’re buying a sketchbook. Which size do you usually prefer drawing? If you tend to draw on bigger notebooks, the 13 might be better. You can even get notebooks on those sizes and compare how they feel! If you’re more of a a sketchbook on the go type of artist, then go for the 11. Also, if you’ll be drawing more stationary or using a backpack (13-inch) vs being more portable, something that fits in a purse (11-inch).

    What I am afraid of I get the smaller one is that I might want the bigger one when I have learned more?

      Hi Erika, glad I could help. Think about it in terms of sketchbook sizes you like to use - bigger or smaller. I took photos comparing sketchbooks to iPads - you can find them on my website artsideoflife.com/procreate/procreate-equipment/ My first iPad was the 10.5” Pro and I quite liked it bcs I carried it a lot with me. I then upgraded to 12.9” Pro bcs I needed bigger screen for making my Procreate classes and tutorials. If you are just starting out, the 256GB will last you a long time and you can always use external storage. Hope this helps and enjoy your Procreate journey 😊

    Hi could you help in picking an iPad? 🙏
    In all honestly I'm inexperienced & still learn to draw which I have done it traditionally till now. Altough I mostly end up scribbling some things on the iPhone (ibispaint) with my finger lol
    Even so I've been considering buying a tablet to learn both at the same time. Hence should I wait till I'm decent enough to draw?
    Altough if I settle for one I’d also like to be able to download pics on it like 30k for example

      Hey, it really depends on your budget. If you already doodle on your phone, that's a good indication that you want to draw digitally. You can always go for the cheaper one and see if you like it. I've made a quiz that could help you decide artsideoflife.com/quiz-best-ipad-for-procreate/

    I'm still not sure which ipad i should buy. I have still my ipad pro 10,5 from 2017 but it's terrible overheating that procreate becomes unuseable after 30min in terms of handmovements (doesnt work no longer). Also the energy is running out very quickly. I use it mainly to paint in procreate for hobby and my design studies for illustration. Currently i have the budget for a new pro, but im not sure if i shouldn't go for the air because it's really expensive. What would you recommend? :)

    • @artsideoflife
      @artsideoflife  6 месяцев назад +2

      Hey, that used to be my first iPad 😊 Fond memories! If you have the budget for it and plan on career in illustration, get Pro, otherwise get Air. Re. the size I upgraded to the 12.9″ after 10.5″ and I love it so get either 13″ or if you are happy with the 10.5 get the 11″. The new Pros are super thin and light so I don't think the weight is an issue anymore.

      @@artsideoflife Thanks for the fast reply! :) It was also my first ipad. I got it from my parents to christmas, because i realized drawing on pc with a tablet without a screen wasn't my cup of tea. It made a good job around the years but the heating problem got more and more serious. Did you run into a similar issue or is it just a matter of time and overusage? How is the heating so far with the newer ones, is drawing possible over a few hours in a row? :D With my career i'm not entierly sure what to pursue. My main focus in my design study is illustration, digital experience and cgi. But i guess i go for the pro nevertheless, it's not that you buy an ipad every, and if it's a good gadget it will hopefully work for a few years. :)

    • @artsideoflife
      @artsideoflife  6 месяцев назад +1

      I upgraded already a few years ago, so the heating wasn't an issue. I upgraded bcs I wanted a bigger screen and more Procreate layers. I think the heating might be caused by the iPadOS and Procreate updates which require more and more system performance, so the newer models fare better. I haven't had heating issues with my new iPad, nor the ones I tested and I use them for hours. So yeah, if you got the budget for it, get the Pro, it will last you for many years! Enjoy ☺️ and have fun illustrating!

    This video was super helpful!! thank you so much! Only one question, you mentioned that the Pro would be better for video editing, what kind of editing do you mean? If I want to do some basic editing to upload process videos to youtube using maybe iMovie would an iPad Air work as well? or do you recommend jumping straight to an iPad Pro?

    Chat, do we think the new M2 iPad Air 13” is better, or the refurbished M2 iPad Pro 13”? With the Air, we get the Apple Pencil Pro, but have to use a weirdly placed fingerprint sensor to unlock. With the M2 iPad Pro, you can only use Apple Pencil 2, but it has Face ID (so convenient), and a brighter display for drawing outdoors. Is the new pencil worth more than the inconvenience?

Also does the said grainy on the display that noticeable? I’m also worried for burn-in since i’m the type that use things for a long time. I will make a video about the nano texture and new displays, I have the comparison vid with all 3 - 12.9, oled and oled with nano. Regarding the burn-in - I've had few sessions when I used it for 8-10h and I didn't notice any burn it. I think it's because this is not the "classic" OLED but completely new twin-OLED display. Hope this helps!
