Hey John, you strike me as being a very humble gentleman. You also have an affable personality that lends itself to instructing others . . . if you're not a teacher, you should be. While I don't use iso-butane stoves myself (prefer twig stoves), your kit was well thought out, and incredibly light. Thanks for the video, my friend.

I've been subbed to your channel a couple years now. Love your videos, but I still grin with amusement when your channel name pops up. "Intense Angler". You have got to be one of the least intense folks I've ever seen. Your laid back, unintense attitude is a plus though. Keep on keeping on.

I use a similar setup but use the 450ml Toaks with a Fancy Feast alcohol stove. The pot will also work with the ISOPRO fuel and burner like you're using, but that is too much for me for a weekend hike. I like your 550ml pot and would probably use that size also if I regularly used the burner stove. Good job.

"Base weight" should be "what you pack out when you're done." Consumables include food, water, fuel. But *_DO NOT_* include containers that are packed out, including gas canister, water bottle, plastic containers (tupperware). That weight must be counted. Your empty butane canister weighs about 90-115 grams (3 to 3-1/2 oz). A 1 qt Nalgene bottle weighs 6-1/4 oz. A typical 1-1/2 pt plastic container with lid is about 3/4 oz.

Almost exactly my kit, toaks pot only bigger, same burner, same lookin maybe toaks spoon. That bright orange stuff sack is good to throw all small thingies while cooking.
Been pondering about same pot you've got, for shorter trips especially. It holds small gas ganister and burner. And with extra fuel for longer trips also.

I ordered that exact stove. I got it very quickly, but you're sort of rolling the dice. It worked great ... for about two minutes. Then it went out and never lit up again. If you go through Amazon, return is easy. Just know that based on my experience and that of quite a few others, apparently, there's a pretty decent chance you'll get a lemon.

  • @affalaffaa

I have a BRS stove as well and it has performed as I hoped when I've used it, although a little gas leakage if not screwed on perfectly and quickly. The only problem I've had, and I know I'm not the only one, is that it doesn't seem to work with Coleman gas cans. The pin in the stove is too short from what I can work out. A small problem I guess but one I feel worth bothering to mention.

my pocket rocket is always so reliable and I camp a lot in areas where I can't have fires, so always nervous about those cheap little stoves. I use the catfood stove with denatured alcohol and that works for most meals... unless I want to make some gumbo or something that takes 10+ minutes of cooking
    Glad to see more videos!

Nice video, like a casual chat. I must have missed your hair growing out.... how time flies. My one question and observation is that I assume this is a one meal type of cooking kit. I tend to think of a cook kit as 2-3 containers to boil water and something to fry or saute foods and a pot of some sort to keep foods warm, for stews and soups or even to bake in.
And I figure two cups and sporks or utensil sets for an unexpected companion. These few items can always be handed out to others so they can carry the weight. That's really another subject on it's own. Love to hear what you think or suggest as a little more advanced kit.

Nice cook kit, very similar to mine. Only thing is that you should count the weight of the fuel canister in the base weight as you will always be carrying that weight. The fuel portion can go in the consumables section. For those size canisters the canister weight is usually 3.1oz.

thanks for the good tips. I enjoy watching your channel for lots of ideas. I usually go out exploring the outdoors on an ATV, and you have a lot of good tips. If you can, a video on the koozy made from the dollar store sun shades would be nice.
Personally, I have one of the stanley stainless steel cook sets with a little turbo stove like yours and i really enjoy it. A good tip is to keep some denture tablets with you, so if you get bad stains inside, leave a couple inside it full of water overnight, and they will generally remove whatever is in there. Also works well on the stainless steel portion of my stanley click top coffee mug.

do you know a lot about survival knives? Me and SC bushcraft backwoods are thinking of doing a live stream discussion on survival knives. I would like to have you join sometime and have your opinion if you're interested.
    Just wondering, Jep.

Hey bro. No shame on that stuff sack. It could be used to forage berries, nuts, etc.
It would probably even work as a back-up scrubbing cloth. Multiple possibilities. Keep it.

John you are the master.. my thoughts are would it be unsafe (health wise) to put fuel in your cook pot... Due to fumes and make hot coffee taste bad... Just my thoughts....

    • @IntenseAngler
      @IntenseAngler  6 лет назад

Not sure about the "master" part, haha... but I sure do appreciate that my friend! I definitely hear your thoughts about storing/carrying the fuel in your cook pot. I personally have never had any kind of issue with it... always keeping in mind to make sure the canister is clean and capped of course. Thanks for the watch and comment by the way... :)
