Stranded on hwy 11 near Jellicoe for 2 days. 2300km away from home. Completely understand that frustration.

Josh, I understand your grief, but it is better to be onshore wishing you are on the water, rather than on the water praying you are on the shore. You are in a protected bay, in the community, that is why it looks so good.
The air strip is on the other side of the community from your location at the ferry landing.

You should get a stranded pay. The town up there should pay you.
I love it when Josh sits in his truck and talks to us! He used to stay overnight at truckstops and he would sit in the sleeper and talk to us I used to love that!! It always looks so cozy back there I used to think that would be like camping!!

And here you just wanted to earn some extra money! Keeping a positive attitude, I admire that. And let's be honest, it's better than being stuck in some random truck stop in Wisconsin or something.
Hey Trucker Josh... think of all the great stories you can tell your children about the time you were stranded because of no ferry service and stormy weather. With the moral of your story to your children should be; always be prepared with warm clothing, extra food and a positive attitude. However, I do feel your frustration and glad you're keeping as positive as possible.

Josh, you know exactly why you accepted this load . 1: you never been and wanted to go,2: good content hopefully more views . you'll be okay, consider this as a reset and work maybe a longer route during the weekend if you need it
I guess the positive is that you can sit, wait and relax, but I could see that getting boring pretty quick.

Not sure what the company is paying you for this load trucker Josh but I would say they need to pay you at least five grand for that load in snowy weather or at least give you $1,000 a day for detention or something like that when the river freezes over I would love to see a big semi drive across a frozen River like they do on the ice road I'm not sure if it's Canada or something!
Seattle ferry operates in the fog all the time on the sound. (the Bremerton ferry operates in the fog on a narrow channel) The need a better ferry.

Hahaha Josh!! I'm a Canadian(Edm and Calgary) living in Perth Australia. Sorry we only give up 3 months of sun during our winter June - Aug.
I drive a trip bus for a school district and charter trips. I've learned when to say no thanks too.

Yup, the first snow is always the worst, ground is warm and soft and the snow is wet and slippery.
You definitely wouldn't do well in BC if you don't like ferries, that's why when I was line hauling I kept a large collection of movies
Hopefully the company will help you out with some kind of retention pay or somthing...if not shame on them
I was literally saying to myself why did you take this load right as he said to himself why did he take this load... That weather sucks big time right now I'm sitting in Arkansas and it's 17 Celsius and I was complaining today because it took me 4 hours to get loaded... things could be worse
I knew a trucker from Manitoba that had a small generator set up on the back to run to give heat and plug the truck in

It is going to be 32 deg C tomorrow mate and it'll be hot until March.
Mate you should be getting demurrage, thats part of their cost in living and operating in a remote area, otherwise as you demonstrated transport operators won't take the job next time
Well if it's any consolation to you Josh, Australia got hit with lots of rain and floods this spring, and yesterday we had snowfalls in the mountains, very rare for late October. It looks like this weather pattern will be with us for the rest of this year. So far not too much sun here either. Take care.

I remember a buddy of mine was stuck on the ferry to Newfoundland for 24 hours circling the bay because of heavy snowfall
On the bright side, it will eventually be summer. Its not like you will never get out of there.
Here in Australia ( Queensland ) I can definitely agree with you.......our summers are too long and I for one would absolutely trade some of our summer if we can get some of that winter. My 9yr old daughter has never seen snow.
If you're working for an employer in the UK all that time you were waiting you'd have been paid for as though you're working. That's because we're paid by the hour, not by the mile delivered.

You need a wind defector on top of your sleeper cab. As your thumbnail shows your trailer is well above your sleeper, greatly decreasing your gas mileage. I realize your truck does not have the higher sleeper cab. Safe Travels.

manage the washroom requirements (you know these no 1 and no 2) while stock there? Do you have to walk to the restaurant every time?
I feel for you Josh. I hope you can get moving tomorrow. You couldn't have known when you accepted this load that you would be stranded in the inclement weather. You have taught us well with what to expect while being a truck driver. If this is the worst that could happen, then we should count our blessings that we will have better days ahead of us. lol thats not north. go to the ice roads in nwt/Nunavut. thats just wet snow that sticks into treads. just send it peddle to the metal and plow on keep the wheels turning and dont go too fast and keeper upright. safe travels

It is not uncommon to have snow on the ground in Winnipeg by Halloween and sometimes it says there till March of the following year. November is a month that gets snow. Snow does not follow the calendar per se.
From what I read, that ferry is stopping operation for the year Oct 31st. Hoping your on the otherside!
That’s got to be stranded unexpectedly! Hope your company can provide some form of compensation to offset some of the lost earnings for the week. Drive safe when you finally get going.

It is sometimes referred to as York Landing but it is still York Factory.

It sucks you are stranded, and now stranded for another day, dang. I am glad you have text ability nearby. That was a beautiful husky you met. Sorry you are losing money by just sitting there. Glad you can now use your cell phone by/on the ferry. I hope you are keeping warm, and I hope you are able to leave tomorrow.
I feel for you Josh, i've been fed a steady diet of Newfoundland loads out of Steinbach last couple of months and have to ferry to labrador for 1 delivery every trip and the crossing costs me an extra day sometimes two days and i'm not earning while i wait either ,i get very frustrated with the whole situation as well.
Went to Oregon for breakfast this morning, a car was in the parking lot with Alberta plates. I laughed and thought of them fleeing the snow to come here! Been asking for a road forever? That $30K for 5 days of hotels in London for fancy sox would be a good start on a road.

IF your company wants to take freight for that community again they will play hell finding someone to take the load. They sure need to make some compensation for your being hung up there !!! NOT fun !!! !

As cold as it gets up there why does Canada have so many mosquitoes? I thought if it got real cold it would freeze them out through the winner. But as cold as it gets in Canada and Alaska and they both have so many mosquitoes that proves the theory wrong!!
