SEVERE Thunderstorm INTENSE Lightning 6/30/14 Chicagoland Area!

- A severe thunderstorm came through, got very dark out. They suggested 70 MPH gusts but we got barely any winds. We got a solid 30 minutes of torrential downpour though, and insane lightning. one bolt took the power out momentarily.

Not a bad storm! Hey, did you know that lightning can actually strike up to 10 miles outside of a thunderstorm? Amazing.
I miss storms like this.(we have snow in Ny). We rarely never get storms like this. We've had though bad storms before. Like in 2014 we've got severe thunderstorms every Tuesday in July which was weird. Lol.
We got affected by the same storm here in Wisconsin, although the wind was destructive. Our big grill got thrown into the side of the camper, and the neighbor's backyard table got thrown onto their car. Two trees on the street in front of my house lost big branches and were blocking the street. Many other trees were damaged and fell on top of cars. I thought a tornado went through at one point, even though there wasn't one. We didn't lose power surprisingly, but a lot of other areas did. The lightning, thunder and rain was amazing, and it got almost as dark as night at one point. The system that the power companies use to shut off the power momentarily when a line gets struck is pretty nice to have. Much better than destroyed electronics. Nice video by the way, I love the lightning.

One bolt's on record of going over 400 MILES from Brazil to Argentina. If you don't believe me, look it up. Another bolt elsewhere lasted a tad over 16 seconds.

I imagine at the beginning of this video, the sky over Plainfield looked something like that before they got smashed by a major twister in 1990.

Boy it got dark out for sure! Was this is in the afternoon or evening? Awesome thunder too along with the insane lightning stated in the title of this video!

it was pretty cool i recommend one good viewing spot you can see my footage of a very very bad storm i did fall but due to a lighting strike landing close by but i kept rolling lol any thing for the storms

Our powerlines here in indiana are lightning magnets. I don't know how many storms we've had where lightning has struck a pole killing power for a minute. Although we have had a few power outages that lasted all night because of a bolt striking one. 2 years ago in july we had a tornado warning and before the actual tornado came through, we had a short brief electrical storm and that took power out for about 5 minutes, it came back on, but then the 100 mph winds came through (ef0,1 tornado) that destroyed part of where i live. Out of power for 3 days.

It really wasn't that bad in our area. Just heavy downpours basically. We didn't even get much wind. We didn't have damage to anything either.
+GusHerb94 thats what happened 2 years ago in july. Around northern indiana, trees down, power lines down, massive winds. i still think it was a tornado though and not 100mph+ storm winds
+Christopher Ryan who cares what your opinion says? It was likely a microburst/downburst straight-line wind
that you experienced, unless you saw twisting grass/trees afterwards then yeah that was a tornado. Be glad you still have a home and quit assuming every wind event during storms was a tornado.
