I still don't understand why these cars are and were so underappreciated in the US. Here in Mexico they have cult following from a healthy enthusiast community that still run these and modify their 2.5 turbo engines to very serious levels. Back in the day these Lebarons were the best you could get in Mexico from a personal luxury/sporty coupe standpoint. My dad owned a 93 green Lebaron (Phantom in Mexico) with the 2.5 Turbo and it was a freaking spaceship back then in our market context. We loved that car so much that I became a car enthusiast cause it was so different, modern and special compared to our average 93 Nissan Sentras and VW Bugs. I'll buy a 93 Phantom next year as an homage to my late dad and to revive those beautiful memories of my childhood with him and his amazing car... Thanks for the video, my friend and thanks for appreciating these awesome cars. Btw, its crazy that modern cars have digital clusters again and have talking assistance just like these had 30 years ago...
I'm not sure why that is either, but I'm glad to hear that somewhere these cars are appreciated! We've heard from a couple viewers in Mexico already, definitely sounds like these are properly cared for down there.
Because here in the US most of your Mopar fans are muscle car people. The LeBaron doesn't have a Hemi V8 so it is not considered cool. For the same reason, for a long time, the Ford Mustang SVO and Buick Grand National received no love because no V8, although they were faster than the V8 versions.
I was raised in these my whole life. My mom had every LeBaron and every single Sebring until the 2011 200! She leased them. Now I own a 2015 Chrysler 200C v6. And she still has a 2002 Sebring convertible. All LeBarons and Sebring and 200’s for us are all v6’s.
That's awesome! I hope this video brought back some cool memories for you. I've still got my eye on a Sebring convertible, if I had the budget for one I'd definitely pick one up.
i have a 1994 in emerald green i just love it 124k miles runs like new and very quick . it belonged to my best friend of 48 years who passed in 2020, fixing it up in his memory.. MISS YOU CJ my brother for life... RIP
This episode really takes the cake for me. I love the way it turned out! Such a futuristic design with the interior on this car, I could have spent days in it just to appreciate all the detail.
God I love this car, I had a passion for these back in the day and almost bought a 1990 LeBaron LX 2dr. coupe totally loaded. It even had cornering lights and an equalizer in the dash with electronic voice alerts. Sadly it didn't come to be. Thanks for posting this!
I'm glad someone else out there loves these cars! I don't think it's a popular collector car, and the communities online for these are next to none. Those late 80s/early 90s voice alerts are so crazy, future thinking that didn't take off due to reliability.
I had a 1993. With the V6 Never, ever used oil and the top always worked. And I got it from the rental car company. Who knows what the renters did to it before I got it. Not fast but I never had drivetrain issue
My first car that I owned back in high school in the late 1990's was a silver 1991 Chrysler LeBaron Coop that had the headlights flip open when you turn them on.
Great review Nile, it reminds me of the old Saab convertable !. Been watching your channel for a couple of years , always enjoy your videos. In my opinion, you are one of the best car channels on RUclips, always informative and entertaining ! We all love the E38 up dates, I have had three 740s over the last 10 years. Keep up the good work.
Thank you, I appreciate hearing that! It gives me the motivation to keep finding obscure cares like this! I'd love to try out a Saab from this era, I used to see them in Ontario all the time but not so much out here in Quebec.
You can really tell this hasnt been driven all too much with an engine bay that clean (especially in Canada), wow !! And I'm loving the different song you used for this review, helps spice things up and make things more exciting !
Thank you! The last few episodes I've been trying something a little different, slowing the pace down a bit with the music & b roll to help with the overall flow of the videos. I couldn't believe how clean the car was overall, I could have eaten dinner off the underside of it.
I had the 1994 LeBaron GTC Convertible, with the 3.0 Mitsubishi V6, and all leather interior. Mine was a sweet car, one of the favorites of the 37 cars and trucks I've owned over my long life. It only had 96,000 miles on it when I bought it. I didn't drive it often, but my trips were from 300 to 1500 miles when I did go out for a weekend. Hence, the reason it only had 127,000 miles on it when I sold it years later. That car could take off fast and stop just as fast. I had the limiters disabled and my car topped out at 143 mph. I only ran over 100 twice in it, but I ran 80 on the interstates until I got a ticket meant for a 90 mph Acura ahead of me. I never sped again. Wanting to do things legally, I went to "peak and tune" night at the 8th mile drag strip... And I ran consistent 10.5 second 1/8th mile runs all night long. I still have the drag tickets. I beat a Z28 V8 Camaro but I think his car was worn out. No way I should have beat him. I may be in the market for a 2nd one to put in a Mitsubishi VR4 motor (same block as the LeBaron GTC) and the VR4's 4 wheel drive set-up. Now that would be a fun 200 mph car!
Very nice! I can see why you had to sell it, a car like this definitely needs to be driven. I really enjoyed driving this one, I think it's one of those cars that needs to be appreciated more than it is.
@@PRNTestDrive Absolutely. I'm thinking about buying another one so my wife can enjoy having a convertible. She has never even been in one... And I'm very surprised at the price range. From $1,300 to over $13,000. In my opinion the LeBaron GTC Convertible was one of the best cars ever made, for comfort.
Good to know! Finding details on this wasn't easy, it's too bad automakers don't keep historical information like this on their press websites. Researching these older cars we do is a lot of fun, but it ends up being hard to get the right information.
I can’t remember for sure, but for a while this may have been the only, or one of few convertibles for sale in America. It was popular in sunny areas like Florida or California as rentals. Looks good. Almost looks like the Chrysler by Maserati thing Chrysler made when they owned that brand. I don’t see very many of these in the road any more. It is a museum thing for sure.
Seems like it would have been one of the only convertibles, you're right! The Chrysler TC by Maserati shares some design traits, that's a car I'd absolutely love to feature & drive. I've only ever seen one before, last year at the Oblivion 80s & 90s car show in Toronto.
Damn, this video is so underrated.... Should've gotten like 50k or more just judging from production quality alone! With that said, keep up the good work! I hope you would get the attention you deserve some day. 👍
I really appreciate that, thanks! I too was hoping this one would have done a lot better than it did given the condition of the vehicle and overall rarity of finding these in great shape anymore. I just hope it'll be more of a slow burn on the video where a steady stream of people watch it and people find it as time goes on.
Chrysler in the 1980's and early 1990's was really masterful at offering cars with a touch of luxury, attainable by the middle class. That's the essence of Corinthian Leather marketing. You could buy one of these and feel like you bought a budget Mercedes SL. You could buy a New Yorker or LHS, and cruise in a beautiful, classy sedan, that didn't look out of place parked in front of a nice restaurant. I miss cars like that.
I miss cars like this too! I really enjoyed having the chance to drive one, I don't think I'll ever get an opportunity like this again. Makes me miss my Intrepid. I was so close to filming a 94 New Yorker from the place I did the Town Car, but it sold before I could film it.

Could be an interesting first car. We go over the main issues we were able to find in this video. Chrysler hasn't really had a track record of reliability, so you may find yourself in the shop more often with a vehicle like this. Hope it works out well for you!
Wow, this is only the 2nd LeBaron I've seen with the Electronic Vehicle Information Center. The 1st was in a junk yard and those parts are a box in my basement now. 19:14 I'm calling BS. I've never had communication problems with my LeBarons, or really any EEK car. Modern cars are much, *much* worse about that kind of problem. Modern CAN communication systems are very finnicky, and basically need ideal conditions to operate. These old EEK's use Chrysler's CCD bus, which is a very simple, very robust communication standard - perfect for rough conditions in a car (vibrations, radio interference, voltage discrepancies).
Fair enough! We didn't have a lot of time with this one, and the information online about reliability and ownership experience is pretty limited, as there aren't a lot of them out there.

@@PRNTestDrive yea so I’ve heard and read I will be careful moving forward but I am most likely definitely purchasing the car
Hope you find something that works out for you!
Where is your Lebaron Freddy?
#1 son
yes?
Exact same interior as the 90 1/2 Dodge Daytona I had back in the day..
I believe that, was easier to drop the same parts on different cars to save cost.
Nice
I felt that way the entire time I got to drive this!
Nice 😀
Nice indeed!

"Fighter jet"? Yes-if Chrysler made an 80s/early 90s cheesey "fighter jet"-eh-this is what it would look like.
I suppose you could argue the Lamborghini Diablo was also a fighter-jet produced by Chrysler.
i saved my 91 from a junkyard it had 10000 miles on it
Why was it sent the the wreckers with such low mileage? Accidented?
@@PRNTestDrive no the original owner pasted away and it was sent to auction.from they no one wanted it so they sent it to my grandfather’s junkyard
It's great that you ended up saving it, but now I just imagine how many cars like this were in the same situation and were lost.
First :)
You beat the bots/spam by a hair 🤣
