Rip Torn is actually a great dad in this scene. If you’re lucky enough to have at least one supportive parent still around, remember everything they’ve done for you and hug them often.
Freddy became a success through his tough love and not just giving him a Lebaron also. The kid who has to work for everything appreciates blessings and is generally less douchey than a cocky menace driving a Lebaron bought with Daddy’s money. I’m not saying don’t be nice to your kids, just watch spoiling them.

I kind of get what you mean. I remember in 2001 when I rented the dvd it came with a audience commentary and for some reason it made the movie funnier to me. I don't look at the movie the same as today but there are still a couple of parts that are funny and I do get what Tom Green was trying to do when making this movie. Crude humor can be funny as long as their is a punch line to the joke, and some of the crude humor scenes in the movie do have that but there are some that don't. I'm just basing it on my opinion a couple years after watching it for the first time. I never saw it again, and my taste in movies kept changing it's possible I might have misunderstood the movie but I won't know until I watch it again.

My vague recollection of this movie having only seen it once 20 years ago is that Tom was an idiot and his father was a mean angry old man who screamed and hollered at him all the time. Now as an adult I see that Rip's character was actually a very loving and supportive father, buying his son a car, telling him he believes in him...Tom really was the villain of this film. Meanwhile, siblings don't get caught up in a war over which sibling gets what. Tom got the car because the parents figured he needed it more. It doesn't mean they liked you less, Freddy. Tom was so lucky that Julie Haggerty was his mom. Bet he didnt appreciate that either.
