- We met with Jonas Berggren of Ace of Base to talk about the making of their unique sound and made him reveal some of the secrets behind one of the bands biggest hits 'All That She Wants'
Ace of Base has just released remastered versions of their albums and a new album 'Hidden Gems' that contains B-sides and previously unreleased tracks.

never was the same without Linn,she had all the charisma and more importantly.............the voice.
Imagine how much drama and tension that must have caused
The younger sister wants more spotlight but doesn’t have the amazing voice, the older sister doesn’t want the attention and the drama, and the older brother is the genius behind the hit songs and has to watch his creation fade

@@uncxrrect3868 They just betrayed Linn or either her sister. Bizarre that the knife incident happen to her Jenny and her mom when Linn wasnt even there and sudenly Linns attitude changes. Linn was pretty powerful in interviews, on stage, outside and in their clips so i dont buy the "unhappy" story. After this also Jenny becomes the front woman who is still covering their songs today with Linn parts. When the band was formed new she twittered that her brother didnt inform her and they were already communicating that. Its not only that Linn stopped but also her brother cutted ways with Jenny and that speaks a lot against Jenny

Jonas is such a musical genius. While Ulf made some genius contributions as well, we really owe the entire classic sounds of AOB and the memories we have associated with them based on his style and method with music. If I could have the chance to be guaranteed to somehow meet and have one hour over coffee with Jonas in Sweden, I would sign up for a flight to go there tomorrow.
"You have to have some wrongs in the music to make it right." - I like the guy so much, he made the whole group of Ace Of Base. Respect.
I think Malin knows it, that many people are missing her - for sure!!!! And i can understand it.... she is very special in many things as a Person -
on the whole, what she embodies is quite rare. Her personality, very sensitivity, very smart, very beautiful, her voice, especially how she uses her voice…. . She decided to go this way. And how hard it would be for a worshiper :-/ we have to accept it even if you don't want it! :-((( With luck you might see her again someday. Nobody should force her to sing, only if she wants it herself! But anyway, a little hello to the fans who stood behind her til today, would be more than nice! Indeed….

What an amazing interview! I would listen to Jonas for hours.. I do respect and admire this personality. Jonas and Linn have a lot in common, even the way of talking, expressing the feelings.. We are waiting for the soul of AOB to appear!!
Today i read is Linn's birthday , i was reading about the band nd seen this, i hope she sees all the nice messages for her, it sounds people miss her a lot

This guy is so right in he says about the usage of "different instruments vs. modern production". He was one the money. Well put! I love the way he explained it.
I just did a deep dive into this band after all of these years. Jonas has quite the grasp of how music creation works. It's filthy and imperfect. They truly had lightning in a bottle. One thing no one talks about when it comes to Malin, she was a contralto. Very rare. It was the secret sauce for success. Now her charisma and natural presence, that was the icing. Such a wonderful human being. Credit to all the members for making a cultural impact on the music industry. Respect
Jonas liked barry gibb of beegees a older siblings,a great song writer composer these guys are a good example of how to manage or to be good of their siblings as a firstborn...and proud to be firstborn child too ...greetings from the Philippines...

I love all the Ace of Base hits.
Jonas also had a hit with "I Saw You Dancing" under the Yaki-Da alias in '94. That tune also made an everlasting impression. He's a very intelligent and talented guy. ❤

I agree the best music came from the 70s and 80s and 90s was ok. He really professionally understands how all this works and is very smart.
Jonas knows that their success came down to Malin. Malin is what made Ace of Base. With him being behind the music and seeing his dream fail, you can see it in his eyes. He definitely wanted more success but as the behind man. But without Malin it's total failure. I think they all knew it.
Wouldn't say it was a *total* failure, but yes I agree, they all knew it would never be as compelling without her. Even Ulf admits these days that Linn already wanted to leave after about a year, and that they had to persuade her to stay.

@@onetwocue If Beyonce suddenly stopped singing, giving interviews and doing any promotion, but still appeared on the album covers, blurred out in the background... yeah.

@@tmb8807 Its not even like a victoria beckham thing. I think Malin is the only person I can think of that was the lead in band and then disappeared. I think Christie McVeee is the closest to being a lead in a band that didn't want to be in a band anymore but she didn't just disappear.
He's an amazing composer, arranger & producer... fantastic pop music!

I like this guy, i think he's really talented ...i've only known this band for some weeks and i really like their music..i see lots of people talking about Linn in the comments who i'm thinking is the blonde girl because i seen the dark hair girl on a more recent video, both girls have great voices, i really like this band a lot
Hello fellow Zelda fan 😁 this band AOB is my fav from the 90s, but you gotta also check out their lesser known stuff. Like the bridge album. I also strongly recommend the hidden gems albums

+DJMichaelAngelo People would assume their music is written in an hour with no thought. But you can see here, great pop songs and writers have method to their madness and it isn't a simple procedure. I would have become a writer if it wasn't for this guy!

clever guy, he had some really good points
however aob band is amazing when they all 4 together , there completed each other , like another greatband , one personal is stand out but the rest of the band is playing another role , .. - linn is amazing , but without jenny's voice and her dancing style- the results were not balance,.. ..,for the example : we hear song at fully completed in 'the sign ' and another songs like never gonna im sorry - when two voice having the same portion each other ..in 'waiting for magic, etc' , when jennys voices far more portion than linn's , all of songs whice have two voices became harmony . that songs was truly ace of base, .. jonas the creator, joker completed the ideas
Wow he aged! Ace of base will never be without Malin (Linn) and Jenny. Their biggest mistake was kicking Jenny out of the band. Her singing and songwriting was so big in their success. Check out Jenny's album My Story and also her version of the song Come.
When did that happen? Never heard of JB being fired?

@@RedArrow73 It was kind of ugly. The record company wanted a younger, sexier image. Jonas and Ulf decided to go with two 18-year-old girls and they didn't even negotiate it with Jenny. Jenny and Jonas didn't speak to each other for a few years, but I think they've made up now.
The girls were also kind of kicked out, they just didn't hear from Jonas and Ulf again. I don't have a lot of respect for J&U after that.
@@WillowJordan1979 could be but also Jenny wasnt making up with Linn and in the last videos they did together where Linn is hardly acting/smiling you just see her brother taking her in his arms sometimes and shes laughting. Jenny had a solo song quick that flopped when they parted and Ulf was collecting the girls out of the losers from a star search show. Dk if it was really necessary to run after 2nd,3rd place singers to rebuild the band, either seems they searched for a quick replacement as Jenny left. Still today she is singing their old music with her sisters parts and her sister is never by her side. They are all a bit fishy, Linn as she didnt even left a statement, she actually never said to quit the band but just to stay in the backround. Jenny as she always seemed a bit cold via her sister and also appeared to love the new lead role. Also that break in home incident where just she and her mother was at home sounds a bit weird. Well Jonas just comes over like a goof or weirdo also in their clips and Ulf had that NN past what still triggers me as Ace of Base is in face a NS chem/nuke stock wordplay that still exists today for "other reasons" 😁

As a musician there was a flavor in linn's voice that I had never and ever heard in any singer until now! Something that I can't describe it very well but I think listeners know what I mean! I respect her decision but what she did to this band and also to the fans is the biggest disappointment in music history! Her voice was the most unique one I ever heard! I just wish someday she just say hello to her fans!
Malin was a contralto (rare) Jenny was a mezzo-soprano (common) but together they complete each other.

Le cœur battant du groupe c'est la blonde. Depuis la mort du réalisateur, dont elle a été amoureuse, l'histoire des Ace of base s'est arrêtée. La blonde n'avait pas accepter cette séparation prématurée, d'où sa dépression 😢

I think the real story here is .. all three were jealous about Linn's attention and publicity. Especially her sister wanted more without having that skill and charisma. That knife story was bullsh*t and those were are all made up. Linn got an excuse to get the fk out of everyone's drama. She was loving the attention and that's how she did so well both on stage and in the studio. She was always happy and charming.
Simply...Ace of Base was successful just because of Linn and Jonas. Jenny and Ulf were side boys with not much to offer.

Da Capo album sounds overcompressed
Yeah but at this point they were appointed with different producers and didn’t have the same ability to prevent over compression. Da Capo/Flowers for me has aged very well. They sound dusty.
So Ace of Base was....Ok
Le cuesta respirar a Jonas. Tiene que bajar de peso por su salud evidentemente.
