Yo! Guess what? I'm an Uber driver (and sometimes passenger) in Atlanta, and this video is ridiculous. I DID have my background checked, along with everyone else who drives for this company. Not all who apply are allowed to work for Uber. Trust me, you are way safer in my car than with some sketchy Taxi driver. Uber knows who is driving whom at all times, should something go wrong (Heaven forbid). Can you say that much for a Taxi service? NOPE. This form of security Uber provides is just one of the qualities that makes it great. And this is a whole new can of worms and a story for another day, but the passengers are sometimes the dangerous ones -- not the drivers...
Yo!!, seems like you have to find hard way about uber's BS, - I don't wish you that, because after that your life will be ruined, either if you passenger or driver. saint-petersburg-florida-taxi.blogspot.com/2014/09/uber-insurance-and-integrity-problems.html ex-uber driver in Tampa Bay
taxi companies know who is driving the car at all time they know how fast they are traveling exactly where the car is (so say you got abducted and called the police saying you in x car they can track it! uber won't do that) taxi's have security cameras so if anything happens you can get footage of the incident. thy know if the meter is on or off and they know if the ign is on or off. the taxi data system is tied into every facility of the car. and no to far into the future will be able to limit or immobilize the car uber will never be able to do that. if your driver decide hey you hot i'm going to rape you they simply turn off their app take you somewhere and do as they will. uber won't know where they are and they don't track passengers phones. also as a driver in a taxi you have a dispatch system behind you that should you be threatened you can trigger an alarm and have everything that is happening in the car recorded and police dispatched to your location. i can't say that for uber as no one is monitoring you! uber is NOT SAFE PLAIN AND SIMPLE!
The video was produced by the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association, a trade organization for the taxi industry. www.tlpa.org/about/index.cfm www.whosdrivingyou.org/about.html Yes, there's an agenda here.
And your point is? You should go over and watch the endless videos put out by the teamsters 986 and CADA, who now represent UBER DRIVERS who are totally pissed off with how this company works.. Maybe before UBER even try to "clean up" the taxi industry.. Maybe they should clean up their own house first.
I'm not an uber fanboy or ride-sharing fanboy in general, I just can't stand over-regulation under the guise of "protecting the people". I honestly can't understand how anyone can support over-regulation unless they work for the government. Of course I want to know that the government is inspecting restaurants, but I don't want them telling the restaurant what percentage of Swiss cheese vs Cheddar cheese should be distributed, because the Swiss cheese manufacturer is somehow someway linked to some government entities. otherworld11 John Watson Please let me here some of your arguments, assuming you can keep it professional.
that's really BS !!! Most Uber drivers are former Taxi or Limodrivers (so am I..) which simply didn't accept the stupid monopoly rules of the Taxiindustry any longer. Most of us have a taxipermit and we are background checked same way as a taxi or a Limousinedriver. Why wouldn't a good taxidriver not rather drive passengers with his personal car instead of paying a high lease for driving a yellow car ??? I WILL TELL YOU THE REAL REASON : It's the same reason why taxidrivers very often refuse to accept credit cards and always find excuses if a passenger asks to swipe his creditcard.. THEY ONLY WANT TO AVOID TAXES AND WANT TO WORK UNDER THE TABLE ! We all know Uber is not perfect but remember it just started business recently and the Taxiindustry had 100 years to make the changes that the people have asked for and just failed badly. Believe your own eyes and make your own experience instead.
Taxi Industry (2 words) is not the Taxi's Fault - it's the regulators reasoning to keep YOU (the driver) and the CUSTOMER SAFE -- the biggest problem with taxi drivers, and I know, I am one, is that 3/4 of them don't speak English very well in America, and 9 out of 10 Americans hate that. I speak English, in fact, I speak American English and the people who get in my cab, love it -- so lets be honest, Taxi cab drivers are not liked cause they speak some foreign imitation of the English language.
This video is extremely outdated. Both Uber and Lyft protect drivers and passengers with up to 1 Million Dollars for insurance. That's in some places a better policy than if you were in a cab accident. Shame on this video for lying to people to prove a point. As far as background checks, Lyft and Uber do the same type of checking that a cab company will do. In either situation you are always going to be jumping into a car with a complete stranger.
Walter, maybe you aren't in the US and it's different but this is the complete documentation on Ubers insurance policy in the United States... blog.uber.com/ridesharinginsurance
Walter Holland It is a picture describing it simply, followed by text explaining all the coverage in detail my friend. These commercial grade insurance plans have been in place for quite some time now with both Uber and Lyft companies.
Tony Sadlon I was on the assumption (unless they changed it recently) that policy you are talking about applies only if the driver has commercial insurance. If the driver only has a private insurace, the Uber policy is void, meaning they wont protect neither the driver, passenger or any one injured in an accident. Read the whole agreement (not just that site you are referencing)
U-B-E-R = T-A-X-I... An Uber is a Taxicab with a little marketing magic. We shouldn't even be having this debate/conversation. Uber IS a friggin' TAXI.
Who hasn't had a rude, funky, nasty, or attitudinal cab ride? The prices, arbitrary charges, and discrimination of pick up. Lift/Uber doesn't discriminate, no charge for bags, multiple people, zone, increase in gas prices, CC's, etc. The only difference in hiring is cabbies take a $500 2 week class before driving. A wacko is a wacko, the way they start the clip is for shock value and don't even provide details, which leads me to believe it's fake. I'm offended when big business tries to stifle small business. It's disgusting.
u'mm you couldn't be more wrong if you cabbies are charging you anything that doesn't appear on the meter you are being ripped off there's no fluctuation in cab fares for gas prices. i'll admit to credit card charges but that's because of the company that runs the eftpos system not the driver in fact the driver doesn't see a cent of the credit card surcharge. they shouldn't be charging for bags. uber however fluctuate their pricing based on demand the same trip could cost you $20 one time and $150 the next there is no pricing structure.
My 64 year old mother was recently held against her will in a cab. The cab driver locked the door and told her she could not get out until she paid him the full fare. The reason she didn't pay him the full fare is because he was yapping on the phone and missed the turn so he ended up going way out of the way. She was not going to pay extra for his mistake, especially when she catches a cab (using the same company) to and from the same destination several times a week and knows exactly how much the fare will cost. We complained to the cab company and they did NOTHING about it. She requested a callback from the manager and he didn't even bother to call her back or address the situation.
Lol, I think most NYC residents can attest to the fact that many NYC cab drivers are downright terrifying, both in demeanor and the aggressive manner in which they operate their vehicles. I cannot say the same thing of my UberX drivers in New Jersey. I also know plenty of women who have been harassed by Taxi drivers. It is a risk you take getting in any automobile operated by a stranger, it is not a problem unique to Uber. This video is just plain stupid.
***** the problem is You don't know who the drivers are. First off, I have seen the same vehicle with at least three different drivers. It's called swapping. So the car can basically be Ib the road 24- hours a day. Secondly, the cities would like to know also who these people are. Cities regulate taxis basically for the sole reason to know who is actually behind that wheel and for the sake of public safety. Uber refuses to even identify any drivers or let the cities know who is driving. I do understand though that Uber is now offering a special promotion.take five rides with Uber on the next ride you get your head bashed in with a hammer for free. . Or how abour the Sophie Liu special. . Hail an uber stand in the intersection he simply runs you over and keeps on driving. .
John Watson 3 drivers in same Uber car within 24 hours? ha, doubt it, but if so, that would be your fault for letting that continue. When you order an Uber ride, you will have the drivers photo, his name and car show up on your App. If the driver is not the one in the photo, then you should immediately let Uber know and cancel the ride and get out of the car.
I am an Uber driver. 1. I've never heard Uber, or anyone else for that matter, claim that they were a technology company. 2. Is the safety of the driver not an issue? Drunk people are more violent than not-drunk people. And drunk people probably Uber more than anyone. 3. I totally agree that Uber shouldn't be held liable for anything that happens. They simply connect drivers with passengers, get people paid, and get people rides. That's it 4. Everything stated in this video sounds like something I would say if I was a taxi driver, or an owner of a taxi driver....... from Alabama..... 5. TAX. TAX. TAX. TAX. TAX. 6. If Uber did follow the rules of the taxi world, then it wouldn't exist. Because it would be a taxi company. 7. This video is ridiculous propaganda. UBER DRIVERS UNITE!
1) I love how all of the comments are mainly from large companies and taxi services. Nope, there’s no agenda here! 2) I know of a state that has successfully legislated the use of companies, such as Uber, that have everything you’re saying Uber is missing. I think if you took the time to look at what other states have done, you’ll find that it has everything that solves these problems. Take Colorado, for example. Background checks? Check. Minimum Insurance? Check. Making sure our cars are safe? Check. Making sure people are safe when they get into my vehicle? Trust me, people getting into my vehicle are safer than the majority of cabs. Not to mention, Uber drivers are rated by their passengers (that’s more supervision then cabbies have), the passengers know the vehicle and what the driver looks like before getting into the vehicle (do you know what vehicle you’re getting into when you request a cab), and the base fare’s in our state are cheaper than a cabs. 3) I like how all the “representatives” in this ad are all older white folks. Yup. Very realistic views of society and what the “people” think. Not to mention, how many of these folks do you think have unbiasedly been in or attempted to user Uber or Lyft? 4) Uber drivers are dangerous? Really? No matter what, you can’t filter out all the idiots. In fact… a. www.myfoxdc.com/story/26767553/dc-taxi-driver-accused-of-sex-assault-on-female-passenger b. www.wjla.com/articles/2014/10/only-on-7-cab-driver-accused-of-road-rage-in-d-c--108279.html c. www.kctv5.com/story/26670449/police-search-for-taxi-driver-accused-of-sexual-assault d. www.kingscountynews.ca/News/Local/2014-10-09/article-3898115/Kentville-taxi-driver-accused-of-sexual-assault,-criminal-negligence-to-stand-trial-in-March/1 5) Have any of you ever gotten into a cab? The few cabs I’ve been in the cabbies have never talked to me. In fact, when I’ve told most of them where I’m going they continue on their cell phone conversation and just start to drive; not even an acknowledgement about my destination. Most have been from out of the country, and not that it really matters but when you’re talking about Uber driver’s not being “professional drivers” I can assure you my driving skills are much more astute and professional, being from this country, then someone who has been here 3 months looking for a job and doesn’t even pull over for emergency vehicles (yup, that has happened). The cabs are usually pretty gross. If you call for a cab they often take an excessively long time to get to you. And the list goes on. “Transportation” companies paved the way for this competition. Had they offered a true “service” do you think so many people would be jumping on the Uber/Lyft/Rideshare bandwagon? 6) Yes, I’m an Uber driver (I'm also a teacher, a father, an EMT/FF, a public health professional, a veteran, a volunteer, and a PhD Candidate). All of the passengers who get into my car tell me how much they LOVE Uber because of the reasons in #5. I’ve taken quite the array of folks, from teens to lawyers to professional baseball scouts and they all the same thing. I’m sorry “transportation services” have a little competition these days but it’s about time somebody gave these money hungry, rude companies a run for their money. That’s the only complaint here, that Uber’s taking business. I mean it MUST be because other states have already solved these “legislation” problems. Nope. We’re not taking anything. Our customers REFUSE other transportation methods because of the exact problems the people in this video purport they are trying to solve - safety, reliability, access, and professionalism. Bottom Line: Stop trying to make Uber driver's and or ride share companies look bad. Instead, try spending that energy into creating successful legislation, such as what other state's have done, instead of a campaign of "disinformation on a scale I've never seen before".
Uber now has enough money to start their own insurance company that provides $1 Million in coverage to all of its drivers. They should charge the customer's an "insurance tax" based on distance and likeliness of an accident depending on the destination they have entered. Uber has all the data necessary to determine this. Apart from the insurance, I don't know what else there is to complain about. The taxi companies are interested in stifling innovation to save profits, just like every single other regulating group in America. A company has been able to grow completely out of control, and wasn't shut down quick enough. I look forward to seeing more of this. Come to think of it, Lyft _does_ have a $1 Million dollar insurance policy in place. So please, tell me what the arguments are. An uber driver can kidnap me, but a traditional driver can't? Someone needs to explain that one to me. Uber knows EXACTLY who and where every single one of its drivers is at all times. A huge incentive not to choose uber as a kidnapping platform. A regular taxi car can't say that, as they do not track their drivers in real time. Those phone calls at the beginning don't sound fake, they ARE fake. Regulate deeznuts.
yeap, seems like you have discovered wheel again about public transportation business ..............or you are simply spin doctor for uber ex-taxi, ex-uber and ex-Lyft driver in Tampa bay read about real uber drivers experience in Florida at: saint-petersburg-florida-taxi.blogspot.com/2014/08/uberand-lyft-drivers-beingchargedwith.html
uber does not track their driver at all time all that is required for an uber driver to go off the grid is to turn off their app. hey presto no more uber tracking. taxi companies do track their cars in real time at all times. the data system they run will tell the company exactly where the car is if the meter is on or off if the ign is on or off (yes thats right they even track the car when it's not working!) on top of that the drivers under go a complete criminal history check.
uber also charges a variable rate on their fares a taxi only varies the fare by a set amount based upon precoded meter definitions to ensure fair pricing. uber however will attempt to charge you anything they please while ripping off the driver by paying them a fixed price. this is why uber doesn't want the passenger and drive to talk about money or the fare so that neither knows what the other is paying or being paid.
kyle hubner so how is the location of the car going help rape victim? GPS on the car is just locate their inventory it doesn't show if the person was dropped off or still inside the cab at any moment and Passengers confirm twice the amount of Surge Pricing is in effect BEFORE requesting Uber
MrDICKHEAD28 right, and Taxi's Meters are regulated by the 1. State 2. County 3. City (one of the 3) and they have to be. Plus they have DISPATCH for emergencies. UBER-X drivers don't .. they have themselves, period. PLUS, as a cab driver myself, I can get away with going a bit faster than normal, not too crazy, but cops like us cause we help them often with picking up passengers of DUI morons and stranded vehicles. We give discounts on those situations as well. Taxi Driving is a Community thing, it's a local business, and it's regulated with the proper credentials as well.. UBER-X is is just Electronic Hitch Hiking thats not regulated AT ALL and its just a way for somebody , whom in many cases, already did their shift at McDonalds and now wants to make extra money, and half of them have no idea where anything in town is. Its actually a JOKE.
For a moment there I thought they were talking about taxi cab companies. Uber Rocks! Half the price, no tip required or expected, very clean vehicles, friendly drivers. Used em to take my kids to and from the mall the other day. Taxi cabs suck, are expensive, expect tips, smelly, old, unfriendly, unsafe, etc...etc...etc...
At the end of the day, an Uber driver and a taxi cab driver are equally dangerous. We all assume a risk when we get into a car. Background checks and regulations only benefit the people who made this video. At the end of the day, the only difference between Uber and other "ride" companies is dollars, convenience, cleanliness, ease of use. Obviously Uber wins.
***** Nope, they're not. Uber drivers are barely regulated, taxi drivers are highly regulated, properly insured, and have to answer to agencies like the TLC. Strict points rules, mandatory yearly drug testing, car inspections, defensive driving. Uber is a scam, straight outta the same sort of criminal minds that brought us the great recession.
This is hilarious :) I'm a proud Lyft driver and thrilled to be an EX-UBER driver because they're a coldhearted company. However, even still, both of those rideshare companies are EXTREMELY better than the taxi alternative. Through my year as a driver I've gotten COUNTLESS "thank you"s for NOT being a taxi driver because taxi drivers are not rated on their performance, drive like psychos, smell like crap, don't speak the language and are rude. Could the process be better? YES. Would the process be better if it MORE resembled a taxi company? NO. No, no, no and that's why Uber and Lyft should not be REMOVED. There should be laws making sure these companies are covering people financially from accidents and such (insurance being a stupid hurdle for companies worth so much) but not stupid middle-men companies like taxi services have to deal with who make money for nothing. You can smell it off everyone in this video. They say there should be more middle-men in the process who say who should be a driver and who shouldn't be. If taxi services HAVE these clearances and they still have the waves of horrible drivers filling their taxis, then how is that any better? This just looks like a total anti-rideshare propaganda video. I really hope it fools no one.
This video must be put out by Yellow Cab. None of this stuff is true. Lets see the stories of isolated occurrences of Yellow Cab drivers. I was FBI background checked, thorough examination of my driving record, and there is a million dollar umbrella policy every time I begin a trip, not to mention you MUST have your own insurance.
The government, the government, the government...that is all I heard in this video. Piss on the damn governments and their draconian regulations. If Uber wasn't awesome they would not last, but guess what, people who use Uber don't go back to the taxi companies with their non-English speaking non-background checked fresh off the boat from Africa or Pakistan drivers. UBER ON!
Kingseller2 You are incorrect about one thing. Every cab driver in the United States IS required to get back-round checks. You are correct about everything else.
In other words everyone that stands to make money from Normal taxi like business will support this video. Hello, bother Uber and Lyft provide insurance to their drivers and passengers. Do your research don'e believe this baloney..
Do YOUR own research..when insurance ministers have been asked about ubers "claimed" insurance they say "we are aware of no such situation"..and IF uber did provide insurance, then uber wouldnt be sitting back saying "not our employees...not our problem"....they would be paying out and nobody would be complaining
You're very wrong, my friend used to drive for Uber, he got into an accident, Uber did not pay a single dime for insurance, they lie to people, theyre drivers aren't even properly licensed, they don't have the education or proper credentials to driver anyone.
You really need to do some research on who you support Here you go.. UBER's insurance document please read.. You will find it ONLY PROTECTS UBER FROM FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY.. Not the passenger in any way.. www.whosdrivingyou.org/ubers-leaked-insurance.html
John Watson this is what i meant, in my friends case Uber claimed he was not logged on...which is a lie...they didn't even pay him a single dime for damages...apparently they will only cover you if you're logged in or go "ON DUTY" as they call it, they LIE to so many people in so many ways...thanks for the info.
A few simple reasons for why Uber is illegal: -Drivers don't have a taxi driver's license -Drivers don't have a commercial insurance -Drivers have no formal qualifications, and the quality of the background checks is questionable at best -Where I live drivers don't pay any taxes for their income because it's all done with bank transfers -Operates exactly like a taxi service, but doesn't follow regulated maximum rates
Tuppoo94 Here in IL: Drivers have a rideshare licence Uber has the commercial insurance from the time we accept a ping to the time we drop off a passenger, a few insurance companies have rideshare riders to cover us all other times. Drivers all have a drivers licence, have their driving record reviewed, and use a background check that is better that what most companies use. Uber uses direct deposit like the vast majority of companies and sends a 1099 to the IRS - yes I am going to pay my taxes. Uber prohibits drivers from looking for street hails and most of the time charges half of the taxi rate.
+Tuppoo94 Another example of someone who pretends to have answers and research but when they empty their pockets... nothing but lint.... and a condom that their father should have used....
Fewer and fewer people find these melodramatic propaganda hit-pieces convincing now-a-days, with the abundance of information available on the internet. This video will only be liked by three kinds of people: paranoid and suggestible old people who rarely use the internet, people who have a financial interest in continuing the taxi cartel, and people in India and Pakistan who work for a "Buy RUclips Likes!" website.
Let's keep in mind that not all drivers do this. I for one would never dream of touching someone in my car or being intoxicated. Who's to say that taxi drivers are perfect?
Wow, I thought videos like these didn't exist anymore... I can't believe the amount of crap, here. Let's talk about Taxi Cab drivers. Shitty cars, creepy people, I've been in a cab with a drunk driver, and so on. They want to leverage all this fire on Uber and Lyft, but completely ignore Taxi cab drivers. If taxis were good, Uber wouldn't exist. The guy keeps going on about how uber drivers aren't background checked. Taxi drivers are, and they still hire convicted felons and whatnot. This video was made by, and these people were paid by, the taxi industry. Make no mistake.
Please, please government control my life and tell me and everyone else what we can and cannot do. All day all night I am scare of all the dangerous things that can possibly happen.
A drunken stoner running from the cops while keeping a hand in your shirt is an experience of a lifetime. Instead of calling 911, you should tip extra!
BroccoliBeefed I drive for Uber too. So many holes in this video. Uber does provide commercial insurance for when the passengers are in the car, everyone is covered. When the app is off, you use your personal insurance, and more and more insurance companies are working with ride sharing companies now. Life Farmers.
+BroccoliBeefed This statement WOULD be true except the entire ride (driver, passenger location, background information, address, SSC #, do i need to list more?) is documented digitally so yeah no its nothing like a hitchhiker.... Don't try to think TOO hard I would not want you to have to over exert yourself......
if you think UBER is so bad, can there just be a disclosure statement. Uber is not a taxi and you are at risk 1 personal safety , 2 financial safety use at own risk. This allows people the FREEDOM to make bad choices. FREEDOM is what this country started on not the thug government we have now.
This whole section on the insurance is BS. I am an Uber driver and when I pick somebody up, the customer pays $1.90 for the insurance on their trip. I can see the details of the insurance policy within the Waybill. If I don't have somebody in my car, then I am using it for personal use and my regular insurance applies.
+Aiden Raccoon Does your personal insurance company agree with your assumptions about for whom and when liability starts or are you just using logic? Very dangerous to do when lawyers and insurance adjusters are around.
1.9 a ride, u make 20 rides a day, this is 38$ a day just for insurance, are u nuts? U can rent a cab for 40$ a day and every thing u make on top is yours. Are u stupid? 40$ just insurance and + 20% you as a driver will be with empty pockets and you need to use your own car, how stupid you need to be.
+sami hicham It is correct. USAA offers an Uber extension in TX but not in GA. Allstate offers the Uber extension in TX and GA and several other states. Geico offers the Uber extension in GA and TX and several other states. There are several other smaller insurance companies that also offer an Uber extension. Uber insurance covers you when you have a passenger and the app is running. While waiting for a ride, the Uber extension on your personal policy covers you. When app is not running, your personal insurance covers you as normal.
This has a lot to do with proven principles and methods of conducting a specific business: passenger transportation for hire. Uber is exposing their drivers and customers to all kinds of unnecessary risks. In a civilized environment you need law and order, without rules and regulations your town becomes a third world social disparity.
It works through reputation not regulations. The market will sort out problematic drivers by not allocating it any business. People take risks going in to regulated taxi as well. In the UK there was a registered black cab driver that drug raped 70 women. Maybe if there was a similar reputation based system in place the first women would have given him a bad rating and then no women would have gotten in to his cab again and this mechanism alone would work as an incentive for drivers to look after their customers so that they can continue to do business. uber is far better than monopolised government regulated transportation. Government transportation is over priced and low quality, they do no express services and all drivers have a bad attitude. This is nothing more than the horse and carriage industry rallying against the auto-mobile industry. But what about all the horses? What will they do? We must regulate the automobile market so that we can keep jobs... Things change and this is just a small part of the new open economy that we are seeing and it is going to take over the world and leave government regulated industry in the dust.
taxi companies have far from a monopoly. what they want is for every entry into the market to be on the same level playing feild in regards to safety and regulations thats not too much to ask for is it?
Gregory Van Der Mewve UberX banned in Tampa Bay or should I say RULED AS TAXI COMPANY and a subject to same regulations as any other transportation providers. www.wtsp.com/story/news/local/2014/11/12/hillsborough-decides-uber-just-like-cabs/18947411/ All we need now is to get Unions to represent Florida UberX drivers to enlighten them, that they are doing slave labour for cents on the dollar
Albert Zee The last thing uberx drivers need is a union. They have more rights being independent than you do in a union that is until the state gets involved and removes all their rights to do business freely so that they can keep the fat cat union happy so that they can continue offering poor value for money and ripping the customer off. Everyone wins apart from the customers and the uberx drivers who are only trying to make a living for themselves.
I am an UBER driver in Alabama... 1. UBER is a tech company, the driver is the independent transportation company. 2. UBER provides a $1,000,000 insurance policy when i pick up a rider. 3. I had to submit to a police background check when I applied. 4. My car has to be a 2006 or newer and must pass a vehicle inspection. 5. Taxi dispatchers play favorites with the drivers and give work to whoever scratches their back... UBER simply selects the closest driver and has a formula to match drivers and riders when multiple drivers are close to each other. 6. If my star rating falls below 4.6 stars - I am kicked off the system! This ensures drivers are on their best behavior, drive well, and keep their cars clean. If half the time i get 4 stars - i get fired! I'm not saying all drivers are perfect, but this system ensures only the best drivers keep their jobs. Taxi riders do not have this kind of power over what drivers stay and go. Whenever a group of politicians and lawyers put out a video like this, its clear they have an agenda. It would not surprise me if the people in this video benefit (financial) from the taxi industry in Birmingham.
Ha ha. this is such an obvious propaganda piece against uber by the taxi companies. Whatever. Every Taxi in my town is operated by a guy who doesn't speak English and doesn't understand basic manners. I'll stick with Uber thanks.
Uber is a life saver for the people of the US that need work and cheap transportation! The US Government only knows how to get in the way of "true" progress, especially when it comes to the economy!
All of this stuff can happen with a cab driver and it has. I know this girl that used to be a cab driver and got high on crack cocaine while driving a cab and wrecked with passengers in the cab.
Steve Huff Well for a start there are plenty more stories of dodgy uber drivers.. but taxis are regulated and do proper background check. and they have to pass a course.. on top of that drivers who have invested money on a taxi license are more inclined to obey the law or risk losing there license. (which cost money) Where as uber has no really incentive to do proper background checks ( which would cost uber money) all they care about is getting drivers on the road
The rebuttals are all from Taxi companies or others who have a stake in the transportation industry. The % of instances with Uber (notice there are no Lyft ones) drivers is minuscule compared to the number of transactions. The people have spoken and the public says "they love ride-sharing" and that is what counts at the end of the day. The majority of the people complaining are the ones that stand to lose the most in regards to revenue and profit. As far ad Lyft is concerned- I feel we have better driver community because a person actually meets the driver and inspects the vehicle, the driver and road test. Disclaimer- I am a Lyft driver, mentor and recruiter
Uber math: $21 per hour on Friday/Saturday They add an additional 100% workforce to the Uber driving fleet $10.50 per hour on Friday/Saturday. Sign me up! Can't wait to work 12 hour days for $4.75 after gas, insurance, depreciation, car payments, tire expense, brake expense, oil expense, misc. repair expenses. Can't quit knowing that if I do, I will have my car repossessed.
At least with Uber the police will have a concrete record for a court case. Some one gets in a cab off the street you have less chance of getting justice.
Everything in this video is true - PLEASE GIVE IT THUMPS UP - I have done hundreds of trips for UberX as an UberX driver, If Uber is left unchecked they will become the worst transportation company ever - Passengers are oblivious to UberX's UN-ethical practices towards tax payers and UberX drivers alike. Those who love UberX are the Passengers who Love to pay next to nothing for an UberX rides While UberX Drivers get paid next to nothing taking all the risks, doing all the work and putting up 95% of the expenses, and while Professional Taxi Drivers have a Huge overhead from City licensing fees, Taxes, Driver's training, Commercial Insurance, Plate license fees, and Vehicle maintenance and fuel expenses, UberX has absolutely NONE of those costs.
Uber is breaking numerous laws including in states that permit people to conceal or open carry and it bans its drivers from any self defense. Also it does control its drivers that no Taxi Company would do. The states that pass special laws for Uber,Lyft or whatever name it is called did so by violating its own laws on guns. Uber and Lyft should be put out of business and discourage anyone from establishing so called ride share company
Let's remember what Uber is: It's ridesharing! We have two parties that are willing to share a vehicle for a few minutes....Let's Keep It Simple Stupid. Hey I'm a guy with a car and am willing to take someone somewhere....any takers? I think there is some inherent risk that you sign off on by requesting or accepting a ride. When you are dealing with strangers in the real world obviously there are some lunatics you'll be dealing with sooner or later.
I made the smart decision to research commercial auto by myself and enroll! I honestly feel as though it should be uber's responsibility to inform drivers of commercial auto insurance.
This information is either completely false, outdated, or perhaps only currently specific to the regulations (or lack thereof) in the states represented in the video. I agree with the message here. There should absolutely be minimum mandated requirements for drivers -- and there are. I just started driving for Uber in Columbus, Ohio last month and prior to be allowed to provide rides I had to have my vehicle inspected, get fingerprinted and pass a criminal background check conducted by the state, and provide documentation of sufficient insurance. I don't think that's too much to ask for if a person wants to work as a driver and get paid to give rides to people.
They do background checks. do you know how many felons and crooks drive for the cab companies. I'd choose a ride from my mom over a ride from a sex offender. therefore I use Lyft.
"Their using un-vetted drivers that aren't police checked" again it comes down to give more power to the Gov. and have to pay ridiculous amount of fees for something that is already being done. FYI Lyft & Uber run a DMV and a Criminal Background Check before the driver is allowed to transport any passengers.
I went to apply for Uber, they didn't check anything, i said "are you going to do a background check?" Uber guy said no its not necessary, this was 2 weeks ago...i left Uber cuz my friend got into an accident just to find out Uber is not responsible for insurance, they claimed my friend was not logged in at the time of the accident...it was all B.S.
mercy Rivera I applied at Uber and they did not look at my back, just my face. Uber does does make you approve to background checks. They ask for your driver's licence so the can also check with the DMV.
Just like any business it has its up and down. There are individuals that will break the low or company "Uber" policy's. I was a taxi rider for a long time and must of the time had to dealt with rude, nasty drivers. The Taxi driver gives you attitude if you pay with credit card or your distance too short and when you call the company to complain about the individual they will ignore you or just listen to and don't do nothing about it. One the taxi driver was fighting with my teenage daughter for not giving him a tip. I can go on and on . Now I am an Uber rider in the past 2 years and would never change Uber for a traditional taxi again. The Drivers are always Happy, no tips or cash allowed for method of payment so it's safe for drivers and passengers and no more taxi can drive me around so the can charge me more if I am n the new city. If there is a bad driver I can contact Uber and get 100% refund, apology, and free ride next time I need Uber. Can Taxi do that? Maybe few but there are 1000 of cab company how can you be so sure? How many Uber are there just ONE. No company, no government can guarantee the behavior of there employees after they start working for the company. You can look the news now or in the past about Bad Police officers, angry postal worker, drunk pilot, CEO of the fortune 500 companies are all done something stupid , break the law, stealing, abuse their power and ........... While at work with work uniform. So please don't think you can change people's mind by showing this video. I know this got pushed by cap association and people in this video got chunk of cash $$$$ for it.
What BS! I'm an Uber Driver...I had to wait 3 weeks for Uber to run my criminal & driving record background before I was cleared to drive. We hear in the news of police officers getting arrested for drunk driving or using drugs themselves...those are random occurrences, as they are with Uber drivers. Being a female driver, I've only had 1 uncomfortable situation, where the guy riding in my front seat attempted to put his hand on my thigh; as well as speaking vulgarity. I notified Uber right away & they assured me that rider had been kicked out of they club & will never be able to use the Uber platform again. This prompt response & resolution from Uber management proves this company values safety; not only of their riders but drivers, as well.
Uber has a rating system that is unfair to the drivers, because if a driver just gets a 4 star rating from a customer, and if their rating drops below a 4.6 the driver can lose their account. After my first two weeks of driving with Uber I had a rating of 4.25 that doesn't sound like a bad score to me, however I got a cold hard email from Uber telling me I had low ratings. They also told me to take an online class which cost 35 dollars. If the customers knew they were putting someone's job on the line I don't think they would give anyone less than a 5 star rating. Furthermore the customers are Uber's bread and butter and can not bring myself to give the customers anything less than a 5 stars rating. In addition Uber's rating system opens the door for discrimination to happen. If they didn't have that rating system or at least get in sync with the rest of the world I would like them better. Thank you for letting me voice that.
I used to think that uber is not fair towards taxi drivers, but taxi drivers are always late 10-30mins in my area despite ordering 1 day in advance. After missing my flight because of them, Im never going to use taxi again. Uber never late..
As far as I can tell, all the testimonials in this video were by elected officials who have either never worked a real job or forgotten what the private sector is like. Government regulations are not to keep people safe, they exist to make sure the government gets paid. Taxes, higher insurance rates, other regulations where the worker has to take classes or services: who gets a cut of all of these? Federal, State, and Local governments. Prices get driven up, costs go up, and they get paid.
Just hired in though Uber, as a rider you are protected with Uber and the drivers personal insurance. "full coverage" is REQUIRED. a clean driving record is REQUIRED. You are WAY more safe in a Uber than ANY regular taxi.
Danny Jones also, as having witnessed a Uber accident in my city, the driver AND passenger were taken care of through UBER. What it all comes down to is you people choose to ride with Uber, if you dont think it is safe.. then maybe you should consider driving yourself, or taking another method. Being a Uber rider is YOUR choice.
First of all people need to understand the difference between uber services, Uber x and uber xl are considered ride sharing. Uber does cover insurance for the driver and passengers while the passenger is in the car. The insurance policy is 1,000,000 commercial policy. Uber black and uber suv are required to follow all PUC regulations and are required to have full commercial insurance on the vehicle at all times, depending on the state it could be $500,000-$1,000,000 policy!!!!
Propaganda. Taxi companies and their lobbyists are just mad Uber and lyft are safer than Taxis and way more better in every aspect Speed,Car condition ,the quality of the ride etc. If rideshare services are so bad why more and more people are using it
All individual companies that transport people such as a Taxi, Limo, Uber, Lift, should always have their state issued licences (an additional licence from drivers), and to get those licences they should have commercial insurance, vehicle inspections and a background check. These licences should be clearly on display, like an elevator. Any car spotted without these on display should be fined a minimum of $5,000 and subsequent progressive fines, $10,000 for 2nd and revocation at the 3rd offense.
+Tom McBride The only result from all that crap will be the driver spending more money and the government collecting more money, which is why they write all those laws. The only fine I get is the comment on my ass when I step out of the car ;)
+Phil Peterson I'm with Phil. All drivers have state issued licences, Uber & Lyft have commercial insurance & background checks. Uber & Lyft are already as safe as taxis per US News, so how will displaying licences (who can tell if they are fake) or requiring chauffeur's license help? Would we be any safer if all drivers were required to pass a silly test that asks tough questions like what side of the street odd numbers are located? Test questions can be found on the internet so you can memorize them. www.usnews.com/news/articles/2015/02/11/report-uber-lyft-as-safe-as-taxis
There is a few reasons for this. First for the vehicle, commercial cars that are driven non stop have heavy wear and tear on them and a lot of these cars used for Uber or lift where never designed for heavy use. This is why traditionally taxis where big heavy bulky cars, but as time went on they are all pretty much hybirds now because of fuel costs. One of the way they save on fuel is by using lighter components, which typically mean they wear out faster; try explaining to a cab driver why he needed titanium shocks, won't happen. Taxi's in NYC are subject to daily driving reports which at an honest shop they will fix anything the driver points out, but in the instance of Uber and Lift, there is no oversight and the responsibility is put on the driver/owner to stop his day and take the car in for a check up, which will most probably be at the last minute, remember computers cannot see bad shocks, ball joints. While a lot of cars have wear sensors on brake pads and wheel bearings, the nuts and bolts that hold the cars together mostly do not. So ANY commercial vehicle because of it's heavy use should be inspected regularly, more so then a personal automobile. Second,... People lie,... a lot... Do I need to point out the rape cases and instances where Uber drivers are illegal immigrants? If you are a legit commercial driver, as a passenger you have a right to know who you're placing your life with. Keep in mind, a car is a several thousand pound missile going down the road. As a driver if you don't have a licence you shouldn't be on the road period. As a commercial driver when your on the road 24/7 you have a higher chance of incidence which is why insurance is higher. If you are a driver that takes chances and needs to cut curbs to get from A to B people have a right to know that. At the end of the day, being a driver is like any other business, there are costs involved. Would you get in a plane without a pilot being vetted or the FAA regulating plane maintenance? No... you wouldn't,.. so why would you argue against similar procedures for a smaller vehicle where the costs is lower to maintain, but still there. If I was ever an Uber driver I would have no problem displaying who I was and have vehicle maintenance records available upun request. Once you enter the public arena, you have a responsibility to protect their lives and take reasonable measures to ensure it, more driving = more maintenance = ability to prove it = good driver = prove it again.
+Tom McBride Most of the cab drivers here do not have shocks, titanium or otherwise. The switch to hybrids had to be mandated to get taxi drivers to use them in Chicago, few of the Chicago suburban cabs are hybrids. Yes I think you do need to list out the rape cases and instances where Uber drivers are illegal immigrants (you racist troll), there will not be many. Not as many as taxi drivers. OccupationEstimated number of illegal immigrant workersIllegal immigrant workers as a portion of all workersTotal Undocumented labor force374,00010%Taxi drivers & chauffeurs11,00020%Source: Fiscal Policy Institute, 2007.[2]I have ridden in a 4 passenger plane by a pilot that had the basic flying licence, not the commercial jet certification. Millions of people drive accident-free every day using regular licences. Of course, some want to take that away from us and force us into driverless cars. Are the new hybrid ridesharing policies so inexpensive because Uber drivers are so safe or because Uber is paying millions to cover insurance costs?
In Mexico City, we would be up a crick without Uber. Daily life was becoming untenable until they showed up. Almost everyone had a story about getting robbed, kidnapped, groped and grossed out, or embroiled in hair-raising traffic incidents. (Not even referring to the marauding piratas.) For some reason, these cowboys always remove the seat-belts. Crashes are common with uninsured taxistas, who as often as not just slip into the crowd and for cough. True, licenses and pictures are usually hanging in a passenger windscreen. I saw one once that had plainly been cut out of a tabloid. Uber drivers are a different breed. No ugly sex talk, no drinking or shooting up between traffic lights, and occasionally... no chromosome-corroding popular radio. (One Uberwaalaa even asked me whether I had a favourite station, offering bottled water and a phone charger. I almost slipped into a coma.) Uber screens drivers a lot more carefully in Mexico City than anyone ever checks the taxistas -or their cars. Users can share their itineraries, such that it is unheard of for a driver to slip his leash and commit the sort of crime that defines the pirata and his kissing cousins. I cannot comprehend the reports of Uberwaalaas misbehaving in Toronto and elsewhere. How do they get away with it? Is any kind of technology used there? Very puzzling. Lastly, it is incomparably more convenient to call an Uber for the beleaguered denizens of this festering, congested cluster of restless, seething ghettos. Ubers strategically stake out the whole city, instead of driving around like ruffians looking to rumble. I've never waited more than seven minutes, day or night. Hailing a taxi de calle is more dangerous, because you have to go right out into the street to find and follow up a promising trail of parts.
I'm an Uber driver and I've had passengers confide to me that they are never going back to taxi cabs ever again I've heard stories of passengers being in cabs with holes in the floor or other cabs that have purposely taking them through bad neighborhoods or purposely pretend not to understand what the passenger saying and take the long way I've heard cab stories where some cabs have actually refuse service to passengers because their destination is too short like going down the street to a rental car place I've also heard a story from one passenger who said that their cab driver kept on falling asleep he smelled like weed he was probably drunk or high kept on falling asleep and the passenger would have to talk loud to wake him up then he fell asleep and almost hit a parked car but at the last minute the passenger had to yell at the driver and he woke up and avoided it and these are the so-called law-abiding taxi cabs sometimes I've even picked up passengers that use Uber as a plan B because the cabs they called for never showed up to pick them up Uber offers a safe secure ride for half the fare that a taxi cab would normally offer I'm not saying every driver is honest but if anything criminal like were to happen the customer has a digital receipt with the Uber driver named the license plate on his vehicle and the make and model not to mention Hoover does extensive background checks so law enforcement already begins with a head start if there was a criminal cab driver and he rape some drunk innocent girl and she woke up the next day and reported it to the police what is she going to say when they asked her to describe the driver it was some cab driver with over you have a digital Trail and receipt with all the info you need not to mention that Uber customer services Top Notch look at it this way if we were was such a bad service the cab drivers wouldn't be spending all this money to put ads to try to take them out of service employment through a phone app is the way of the future the future is now people ride-sharing is here to stay like it or not....
My wife just signed up. She had a background check, had to sign an addendum showing that when she logs on she is under Ubers commercial insurance until she logs off and reverts back to our own insurance. No taxes are taken out, yet. Some states are starting to tax. In the end you still have to pay your income taxes on it at the end of the year whether they take out taxes or not. I told my wife to put 25% of her Uber earnings into a savings account for tax purposes at the end of the year. Because she WILL have to pay taxes on it. This video is a lie.
I supported the idea of Uber and other ride sharing programs like Lyft. It was a way for people to make a little extra money driving in their spare time while providing a service to people who needs a ride. It was a way to get people out of taxi cabs. It was a great concept, but I hate what it has become because there are so many people that are doing Uber full time. You see a bunch of them around airports waiting for the next ride to come in on their phone. People who were probably taxi drivers but quit so that they can do this to make more money. These people think they're taxis. They suddenly stop and disrupt traffic on a 2 lane road. They're double parked all over the city. Its a way for these people to be a taxi cab driver without getting a medallion which there is a long wait list for or can be purchased from another owner for $100,000+ (or wait 10 years and pay much less). You see a lot of cab drivers that are Indian and Middle Eastern. Its not a coincidence that a good majority of Uber/Lyft drivers are Indian and Middle Eastern.
25 years ago I moonlighted delivering Pizzas. I provided my employer a current DMV printout of my driving record and proof of insurance. They paid me minimum wage plus One Dollar per Pizza to cover gas, tires and wear and tear on my vehicle. With tips a good driver could earn about double the minimum wage after price of Gas. If I had an accident MY insurance would cover me but you just know the injured would sue the Pizza company. Chauffeuring People is a different standard than Chauffeuring Pizzas. I wouldn't get in an Uber if it was free...
A rider is in danger anytime they get into a vehicle of any kind. Taxi drivers who've driven 90+ hours and is sleepy is more dangerous than a driver who can stop when he/she is tired. The citizen population has spoken and like the service, the only way to stop uber is to get PEOPLE TO STOP TAKING RIDES(100'S OF DRUNK DRIVERS OFF THE ROADS)!
Uber is living in a fantasy land for the moment. ONly a matter of time before the "tech company" b.s. is finished. I drove for them for two years untill they lowered their rates and tookforever to make an attempt to pay damages done to my car by a hit and run driver. GET YOUR OWN INSURANCE!!!
There are a number of myths being presented in this video. Commercial insurance is made for people whom are using vehicles to conduct business. Commercial hybrid insurance like Uber and Lyft request you have before you drive is so you can drive a non commercial vehicle at times commercially. This video is click bait. People are up in arms over what companies like Exxon, and Mobil are doing, but we currently can't do without the products they manufacture, refine, and distribute.
I was pro Uber til I saw the complaints. The issue lies in their definition. They don't see themselves as a transportation company, to them, they simply connect people needing a lift somewhere.
Uber is also NOT a taxi. I cannot pick random people up off the street. I can't have exclusivity contracts with bars. It used to be I couldn't even go to the airport to pick up anybody. The taxis still had a monopoly on that, but then they whined that we were taking away their business, so the city made us get a low level TNC registration, so now we can pick up from places that we couldn't before. The taxi companies shot themselves in the foot.
I agree Dwight Silverman, The same lobby association who has brought you the medalion system in New York which runs out the small time cabbie and increases prices for consumers.
I've heard worse stories from Taxi Cab Drivers! I am terrified getting into a taxi cab, I've never felt safe with them, and they always rip me off! UBER FOR LIFE
This is your society run by lawyers, politicians, and insurance companies. If a product or service could be provided for X dollars without politicians, lawyers, and insurance company involvement - with them, you can be sure said product or service will cost at least 5 times X. Newsflash Mr. Politiician, Mr. Lawyer, and Mr. Insurance salesman - your regulations and fees will never save lives in car accidents despite your assurances to the contrary.
Raise your hand if you have ridden in a cab a dozen or more times and have not had at least one bad and possibly harrowing experience. Let's see do I want to be picked up by a courteous driver with a clean and often stylish late model car in 5 minutes, or do I want to wait 30 to 60 minutes for a rude cabbie in a smelly, rickety, piece of crap taxi, and have to listen to his dispatcher through his two way radio? Oh, and you get to watch the progress of your driver making his way to you on the Uber map. You can even call him/her to let them know where exactly you are standing. You also receive the drivers name, photo, and car description on your App. HMMM, tough choice, I don't know.... These politicians, attorneys and Taxi Mafia are the only people that oppose this revolution in commuting. The rides are better, more reliable and have better drivers, period. Listen to these idiots, they are just pissed because they want to be in your pocketbook and in your business every step of the way. Please comment if you have used UBER and taxis regularly. I bet the overwhelming majority of riders feel safer in one of the new ride sharing companies and they get a lot quicker and friendlier service. I use both and there is no comparison. My brother is now driving with the UBER app, and the accountability for having a safe, clean, driving experience is very thorough. Uber passengers are very diligent about rating their experiences and drivers are regularly suspended, or deactivated for poor performance. I bet you only get fired from a cab company if you total your cab and kill someone. Oh, and my brother called his insurance company and explained that he might need additional coverage because he is driving Uber. You know what Farmers told him? Don't worry about additional coverage because Uber has a blanket commercial policy that will kick in if your policy will not cover everything. Do you think the insurance agents are purposely turning away new business even when handed to them because they are stupid? No, this agent was being reasonable and knows what the hell the real truth is, and they are in turn not screwing their policy holders. oh, and they do run thorough background checks on all driver applicants, criminal and DMV. Lies are what you are getting here. Oh, and BTW, I am a process server. I cannot tell you how many times I have had to serve papers on Cab companies for auto accidents, and subsequently have the guy intentionally duck service. The politicians, attorneys, and taxi cartels are not your friends people!!
garbage, the driver, on average, is in WAY more danger than riders. a typical ride is 3 riders, 1 driver. I no longer drive due to multiple 3 on one physical fights and multiple incidents of vandalism to my car. It is only a small percentage of riders but happened multiple times per week. By far the drivers are at a much greater risk than the riders.
Victims are not just the passenger. Drivers for Uber or anyone else are and can be victims also! In Chicago a few years ago. A Uber drive was accused of rape. He was charge put in jail. A month later he was released with all charges thrown out of court. Reason ,he recorded the entire conversation and the court deem it all consensual ,and the driver was released .
This shit happens in cabs too. Google it. You'll never be safe in a car, period. Now lets get back to the quality of service argument. That's where the meat is.
probably he was drinking out of desperation, because he can not make any money with uber?--- it's very depressing, when you are told, that you going to make $35/hr and then you find out that you are making less than minimum wage after all the expenses ......and you are subject to misdemeanor criminal charges like "violation of city ordinance" an operation of "gypsy cab"
I live just outside of D.C. so they can actually make a lot of money here. I work at Papa Johns as a manager and some of the delivery drivers also drive for Uber in their spare time. They say they make good money-as much as they make delivering pizzas. They make $80-200 bucks per shift depending on the day delivering pizzas so I assume they make about as much with Uber. But either way, it doesn't justify him drinking just before picking me up.
Oh no I agree. This was my only bad experience with Uber. Every other experience I've had was indescribably better than the local taxi cab services. I just felt like sharing my one bad experience.
Insurance companies are some of the most evil corporations out there right now. Just keep in mind that, for these scumbags, the higher the cost of risk, the wider their margins, and of course, the wider their margins, the more money goes into their pockets.
Why pay Uber 25%, get in your car slap a ride share sign on your car, work during surge pricing, sit your car in a busy venue area and with the ride share sign on your car lots of people will walk up and ask for ride.Quote the surge price and roll on down the road. Its easy money
they keep saying drivers are unchecked but im currently waiting for weeks for my background check to clear before i work for them. you can clear a background check and still be a dangerous individual. its tragic, and unlucky occurences that happen. just like getting equally terrible cab drivers
compensation varies from partner to partner depending how long you drive where you drive and what time you drive As a part timer who goes where the app takes me I make about. .50 cents a mile. Adopting more strategic driving tactics would add an easy 30 cents a mile. That represents 30 hours of daylight morning driving and I'm moving generating income.Personally audio books provide a respite from occasionally slow periods.
Yo!
Did Travis pay you to make that statement
Yo!!, seems like you have to find hard way about uber's BS, - I don't wish you that, because after that your life will be ruined, either if you passenger or driver.
saint-petersburg-florida-taxi.blogspot.com/2014/09/uber-insurance-and-integrity-problems.html
ex-uber driver in Tampa Bay
Right on Albert
taxi companies know who is driving the car at all time they know how fast they are traveling exactly where the car is (so say you got abducted and called the police saying you in x car they can track it! uber won't do that) taxi's have security cameras so if anything happens you can get footage of the incident. thy know if the meter is on or off and they know if the ign is on or off. the taxi data system is tied into every facility of the car. and no to far into the future will be able to limit or immobilize the car uber will never be able to do that. if your driver decide hey you hot i'm going to rape you they simply turn off their app take you somewhere and do as they will. uber won't know where they are and they don't track passengers phones. also as a driver in a taxi you have a dispatch system behind you that should you be threatened you can trigger an alarm and have everything that is happening in the car recorded and police dispatched to your location. i can't say that for uber as no one is monitoring you!
uber is NOT SAFE PLAIN AND SIMPLE!
Albert Zee why do you lie in your past comments that you are a Uber Driver?
The video was produced by the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association, a trade organization for the taxi industry.
www.tlpa.org/about/index.cfm
www.whosdrivingyou.org/about.html
Yes, there's an agenda here.
Yeah, proper regulation. I'll take that 'agenda.'
Whoever put this up, it's the truth. Take it or leave it. I am an X Uber driver by choice, not an UberX driver.
Uber
I'm not an uber fanboy or ride-sharing fanboy in general, I just can't stand over-regulation under the guise of "protecting the people". I honestly can't understand how anyone can support over-regulation unless they work for the government. Of course I want to know that the government is inspecting restaurants, but I don't want them telling the restaurant what percentage of Swiss cheese vs Cheddar cheese should be distributed, because the Swiss cheese manufacturer is somehow someway linked to some government entities.
otherworld11 John Watson
Please let me here some of your arguments, assuming you can keep it professional.
Just got hired by Uber and they required both a background check and full coverage insurance. This is the slimiest video I've ever seen full of lies.
mightbegenius this video was made in 2014
that's really BS !!!
Most Uber drivers are former Taxi or Limodrivers (so am I..)
which simply didn't accept the stupid monopoly rules of the Taxiindustry any longer.
Most of us have a taxipermit and we are background checked same way as a taxi or a Limousinedriver.
Why wouldn't a good taxidriver not rather drive passengers with his personal car instead of paying a high lease for driving a yellow car ???
I WILL TELL YOU THE REAL REASON :
It's the same reason why taxidrivers very often refuse to accept credit cards and always find excuses if a passenger asks to swipe his creditcard..
I speak English, in fact, I speak American English and the people who get in my cab, love it -- so lets be honest, Taxi cab drivers are not liked
cause they speak some foreign imitation of the English language.
BS. Next time you are in an Uber car ask the driver for his proof of insurance. LOL.
Walter, maybe you aren't in the US and it's different but this is the complete documentation on Ubers insurance policy in the United States... blog.uber.com/ridesharinginsurance
Tony Sadlon this is a meme, not a document.
Oh and I've seen plenty of bus drivers texting/surfing the web. I guess I just shouldn't leave home.
Here is a brilliant idea..... DO NOT USE THEM... if you are that stupid to get into a BAD CAB... Than you deserve it..
That's it
Thank you!!!!
In fact…

5) Have any of you ever gotten into a cab?
Regulate deeznuts.
yeap, seems like you have discovered wheel again about public transportation business ..............or you are simply spin doctor for uber
ex-taxi, ex-uber and ex-Lyft driver in Tampa bay
read about real uber drivers experience in Florida at:
saint-petersburg-florida-taxi.blogspot.com/2014/08/uberand-lyft-drivers-beingchargedwith.html
uber does not track their driver at all time all that is required for an uber driver to go off the grid is to turn off their app. hey presto no more uber tracking. taxi companies do track their cars in real time at all times. the data system they run will tell the company exactly where the car is if the meter is on or off if the ign is on or off (yes thats right they even track the car when it's not working!) on top of that the drivers under go a complete criminal history check.
uber also charges a variable rate on their fares a taxi only varies the fare by a set amount based upon precoded meter definitions to ensure fair pricing. uber however will attempt to charge you anything they please while ripping off the driver by paying them a fixed price. this is why uber doesn't want the passenger and drive to talk about money or the fare so that neither knows what the other is paying or being paid.
kyle hubner so how is the location of the car going help rape victim?
GPS on the car is just locate their inventory it doesn't show if the person was dropped off or still inside the cab at any moment
and Passengers confirm twice the amount of Surge Pricing is in effect BEFORE requesting Uber
This guy gets paid by Uber to say that lol
Google me. Pretty sure I dont need any pay from anyone.
Cost savings gained by skirting the regulations everyone else needs to follow. Charming.
Politicians, ambulance chasing lawyers, and hack "consultants" paid by taxpayer money. In other words, the usual suspects.
Uber is different then taxi cabs they don't smell like horrible foreigner bo, speak english, and aren't total assholes.. i.e. most taxi cab drivers.
UBER ON!
Hdtex wow, you have a lot of hate. You should seek treatment for that before you harm yourself or someone else.
Hdtex You do what you think you can you coward.
Kingseller2 You are incorrect about one thing. Every cab driver in the United States IS required to get back-round checks. You are correct about everything else.
MultiThrashed With the quality of taxi driver I have seen I just assumed they were not background checked. Thanks for the correction.
CRIKEY! These old donkeys and horses really are making a lot of noise before they die...
You're very wrong, my friend used to drive for Uber, he got into an accident, Uber did not pay a single dime for insurance, they lie to people, theyre drivers aren't even properly licensed, they don't have the education or proper credentials to driver anyone.
mercy Rivera "anyone" meaning a commercial vehicle
You really need to do some research on who you support
Here you go..
A few simple reasons for why Uber is illegal:
-Drivers don't have a taxi driver's license
-Drivers don't have a commercial insurance
-Drivers have no formal qualifications, and the quality of the background checks is questionable at best
-Where I live drivers don't pay any taxes for their income because it's all done with bank transfers
-Operates exactly like a taxi service, but doesn't follow regulated maximum rates
Tuppoo94 Here in IL:
Drivers have a rideshare licence
Uber has the commercial insurance from the time we accept a ping to the time we drop off a passenger, a few insurance companies have rideshare riders to cover us all other times.
Greg Riba Instead of thinking of anything factual to counter my points you resort to ad hominem insults. Way to have an intelligent conversation.
Taxi ride $20
Illegal uber ride. $18
The expression on the face of the Uber driver when he sees his rear window smashed?
PRICELESS
Please, please government control my life and tell me and everyone else what we can and cannot do. All day all night I am scare of all the dangerous things that can possibly happen.
A drunken stoner running from the cops while keeping a hand in your shirt is an experience of a lifetime. Instead of calling 911, you should tip extra!
LOL! People need to know that when they get into an Uber car, it's no different than being a hitchhiker
BroccoliBeefed LOL Living in Fear
BroccoliBeefed I drive for Uber too. So many holes in this video. Uber does provide commercial insurance for when the passengers are in the car, everyone is covered. When the app is off, you use your personal insurance, and more and more insurance companies are working with ride sharing companies now. Life Farmers.
Johnny Luevanos This video is just cheap propaganda.
Artem Cool Your comment made no sense.
+Aiden Raccoon people like u who work for free has no sense.
+sami hicham
It is correct.
Things change and this is just a small part of the new open economy that we are seeing and it is going to take over the world and leave government regulated industry in the dust.
your making very broad statements about things you know nothing about.
kyle hubner what is there to know? the state taxi industry want their state sanction monopolies back.
taxi companies have far from a monopoly. what they want is for every entry into the market to be on the same level playing feild in regards to safety and regulations thats not too much to ask for is it?
Gregory Van Der Mewve UberX banned in Tampa Bay or should I say RULED AS TAXI COMPANY and a subject to same regulations as any other transportation providers. www.wtsp.com/story/news/local/2014/11/12/hillsborough-decides-uber-just-like-cabs/18947411/
All we need now is to get Unions to represent Florida UberX drivers to enlighten them, that they are doing slave labour for cents on the dollar
The US Government only knows how to get in the way of "true" progress, especially when it comes to the economy!
screw the government. it's all about money. I do believe Uber takes out way too much money.
If uber is not a transportation company then why do they dictate what cars are acceptable?
Haha...who's paying for this....The TAXI COMPANIES THAT'S WHO
All of this stuff can happen with a cab driver and it has. I know this girl that used to be a cab driver and got high on crack cocaine while driving a cab and wrecked with passengers in the cab.
Steve Huff True but its more unlikely
badpanda84 why do you say that?
Steve Huff Well for a start there are plenty more stories of dodgy uber drivers.. but taxis are regulated and do proper background check. and they have to pass a course.. on top of that drivers who have invested money on a taxi license are more inclined to obey the law or risk losing there license. (which cost money)
Where as uber has no really incentive to do proper background checks ( which would cost uber money) all they care about is getting drivers on the road
badpanda84 You know nothing.
badpanda84 cab drivers are shaddy characters they drive dealers, hookers, and buddies around.
This is total propaganda
An Excellent video synopsis of all that is wrong and dangerous about TNC services! I hope this gets a lot of exposure!
Uber math:
$21 per hour on Friday/Saturday
They add an additional 100% workforce to the Uber driving fleet
$10.50 per hour on Friday/Saturday.
Sign me up!
Can't wait to work 12 hour days for $4.75 after gas, insurance, depreciation, car payments, tire expense, brake expense, oil expense, misc. repair expenses. Can't quit knowing that if I do, I will have my car repossessed.
Taxis = Blockbuster Video. Uber/Lyft = Netflix
if Uber isn't responsible, they shouldn't be getting a cut.
my best friend, she said she is using uber. I'm praying more than I breath that she will be okay
UBER is the Death Star. Taxi drivers hate them but not nearly as much as their own Uber drivers do. LMAO
Now where's the video of how dangerous, shitty and mismanaged the Taxi industry is. Guess they don't want to air that version.
LOl. Have you actually seen their background checks?
valleywag.gawker.com/uber-driver-heres-how-we-get-around-background-checks-1596982249
***** Why is it that the the 170,030 taxi drivers vastly surpass the 162,037 Uber drivers in criminal complaints against them?
Gale Teschendorf exactly my point they didn't do a background check on you...that's bad.
You can look the news now or in the past about
Bad Police officers, angry postal worker, drunk pilot, CEO of the fortune 500 companies are all done something stupid , break the law, stealing, abuse their power and ........... While at work with work uniform.
So please don't think you can change people's mind by showing this video.
I know this got pushed by cap association and people in this video got chunk of cash $$$$ for it.
Uber prices seem to be going up a lot though. They are not even cheaper than taxis in Sydney and London for example.
I just watched a fraction is of this and its complete shit. Another way for big companies to take down smaller for innovative ones.
I feel like taxi companies came up with this.
Cab drivers in chicago use hybrid.
I rather walk barefoot on broken glass than giving these people my business. It's not always cheaper.
I almost slipped into a coma.)
Uber screens drivers a lot more carefully in Mexico City than anyone ever checks the taxistas -or their cars.
I actually had two issues with a creepy, uber driver. Don't be so quick to doubt.
GET YOUR OWN INSURANCE!!!
you are the one living the fantasy! you are a moron. Even if Uber closes they already cashed out for life plus.... lol who cares?
Huh?
+TheMadManMack Uber already made a metric fuckton of money.
I agree Dwight Silverman, The same lobby association who has brought you the medalion system in New York which runs out the small time cabbie and increases prices for consumers.
those 804 thumbs downs must be those Uber gypsy car drivers.
They're just trying to take your Uber away and make you overpay for a Taxi!
Don't forget operating your vehicle commercially voids your warranty.
Most vehicle warranties state this. Now that's if they find out. So if you run commercial plates......good chance of it.
hey just want to let you know this video was funded by Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association (TLPA)
Because no taxi drivers have ever fucked up, and this was not funded by the parasite taxi companies
"this video is brought to you by the Taxi Cab Commission"
Don't worry about additional coverage because
Uber has a blanket commercial policy that will kick in if your policy will not cover everything.
Where were you picking up riders...the South Bronx?
The last sentence on the video says everything that needs to be known about Uber.
Escape the Matrix
Awweee. You got screwed over by Uber! ROTFLMFAO!
A Black Taxi Cab man got 10 years in prison for raping 2 women in London last Months, not all Uber drivers the same
Victims are not just the passenger.
This guy use to have a cab company so since he lost EVERYTHING he wants nothing more to bash Uber
In other words, "They're making money and I want some of that money too!"
My last Uber driver had clearly been drinking. Smelled like alcohol in the car.
probably he was drinking out of desperation, because he can not make any money with uber?--- it's very depressing, when you are told, that you going to make $35/hr and then you find out that you are making less than minimum wage after all the expenses ......and you are subject to misdemeanor criminal charges like "violation of city ordinance" an operation of "gypsy cab"
How much can you make as a uber driver?
saint-petersburg-florida-taxi.blogspot.com/2014/08/how-much-money-can-you-make-being-uber.html
There will be exceptions and bad apples in any industry. If anything Uber has far less bad apples!
Its easy money
they keep saying drivers are unchecked but im currently waiting for weeks for my background check to clear before i work for them. you can clear a background check and still be a dangerous individual. its tragic, and unlucky occurences that happen. just like getting equally terrible cab drivers
compensation varies from partner to partner depending how long you drive where you drive and what time you drive
As a part timer who goes where the app takes me I make about. .50 cents a mile. Adopting more strategic driving tactics would add an easy 30 cents a mile. That represents 30 hours of daylight morning driving and I'm moving generating income.Personally audio books provide a respite from occasionally slow periods.
This is sad. Taxis will do what ever it takes to say in business. Everyone I know has been ripped off by a cab. Cab ride home $60. Uber $15.
Uber is way ahead of you. In a few years there will be self driving cars and no drivers and Uber will be worth much more than 1.7bn.
