That first wolf is like: "Fuck around and find out."
If you consider a single lane of road is 12ft wide, and roughly 2ft of snow is covering the shoulder, you can extrapolate to get a rough estimate as to how tall and long he is from nose to tail. When he walks across the road, and is on the 2ft wide snow covered edge, extrapolation would show he is roughly 4ft tall from ground to top of his back/shoulders. When he lifts up his head, that would make him about 5ft tall to the top of his ears, and his total length is about 6ft, including his sagging tail. That's one seriously big animal. That's roughly the size of the extinct Dire Wolf.
Eye-level with me! _Freak of Nature!_
I once saw a creature similar to that...in Western Oregon. Lanky though, not beefy, not quite as tall. But it looked over the hood of my car. Only thing it could be was a coydog. But some large coyote, mated with a black-and-tan dog...had those colors. Weird little tall ears. Must have been a doberman. But definitely _not_ a doberman.
That's crazy. A hunter once told me a mature male red deer can look an adult human in the eye. So that wolf is the height of a red deer stag. That is both fascinating and frightening!
@@nialler78 Oh, an elk or red deer would look down at you. They're like little giraffes on the road, when you see them in the headlights. Like big horses. Many fatal wrecks west of Portland to the coast...early-morning commuters to work, like loggers, hitting herds as they cross the highways.
@@KathrynsWorldWildfireTracking That's crazy! Maybe you have bigger deer in the States, here in Europe I don't think they get that big although I've only seen one, they're rare here. It's mostly fallow deer and sika where I live, they are a lot smaller than reds. There were huge elk here but they went extinct a few thousand years ago. People sometimes find their antlers in lakes and they are enormous
Gee, that wolf would be eye-level with me!

For everyone worrying about the dog in the first video: The dog lived! I've read the story. The owner was standing by with a shot gun, the dog ran after the wolf because it had been hanging around. She was protecting the property (which is where this took place). The wolf bit her in the back end and threw her up in the air. The owner shot his gun into the air and the wolf ran off. The dog had some wounds but she healed.
EDIT: because of all the comments, this happened in Saskatchewan, Canada. You can easily google it and many articles will come up with quotes from the owner saying exactly what I said in this comment.

Such majestic beasts. ‘Hope they are in a protected environment. We don’t want to lose them to extinction.
I agree @Qiman
wolves are one of the few predators that probably don't have to worry about that. They are increasing in population, not decreasing. And repopulating areas (often without human help) we'd killed them off in.
Yes. Some species are in trouble, like the Ethiopain, & Red Wolf...if that species actually ever existed. But; what's laughable about the USA is calling Grey Wolves "endangered." Um no. They are the Alaska/Canadian varieties that are doing extremely well. All of the native grey wolf subspecies of the lower 48 - ARE extinct. Sad. A mistake. Sorry, can't get them back. They were smaller. Had different coat colors, had VERY different, milder, behavior.
Tricking the public into thinking extra-large, elk/moose/bison-dependent Canada Grey Wolves are somehow THE SAME deer-preying species we lost in the lower 48 and are "endangered here" - is ridiculous. People get enraged for no reason when a livestock taker must be eliminated. (They will switch from wild prey to domestic and never go back to wild prey - and teach all the cubs to only kill domestics.) LOOK - nobody is making them "near extinct." The hundreds of thousands in Canada will regenerate and replace them. They may mostly resort to cattle-killing if they can't transition to deer.
Tricking the public is stupid. You lose trust that way. More stupid - re-introduction of predators, when their prey haven't all recovered yet. Where are the herds of millions of bison? How are the Tule elk doing? Stupid! Setting all the "re-introduced" wolves to fail. :(
Extiction? Try doing some more research other than reddit threads ran by furries. Wolves are FAR from being endangered

Got to work at a wolf retreat a few times. You can’t really get a true idea of how big wolves really are until your standing right next to them and see how much bigger than a dog they are. It’s pretty cool. The ones I saw were timber wolves and I’m sure there are a lot bigger ones out there!
I had a dog who was half timber wolf once. We had her for 13 years and she went through about 2-3 years where she would kill animals in the back years when she was younger. There's was a couple skunks, a few birds, a few other. She grew up to ultimately be one of the most docile dogs I ever had and always super gentle with people
I had a wolf Hybrid as a pet. He was 90% BC timber and 10% G. Shep.He was at a full grown age of 3yrs old. 6ft long front nose to butt and was 155 pds. His teeth, the fang was @ 1 3/4 ins. Gentle and highly skiddish but to just long at him when he stared at was enough to make any man back up.
@@ninamoon4381 my hybrid was so intelligent that he dug a hole right beside my house where when he layer in his eyes was level with the lawn. Any animal that came in my yard was Done. 3 cats, a couple squirrels and 1 Ground hog. No birds tho
I believe Timberwolf is the largest remaining subspecies of grey wolves. Almost any wolf in North America - outside the arctic region - will be a timberwolf. Red wolf (another grey wolf subspecies) is all but extinct. The Eurasian wolf is another Grey Wolf subspecies. Basically, all dogs, wolves, coyotes, dingoes, and jackals are the same species, 'Canis lupus'. It's crazy, right? I'm fairly sure they can all interbreed - maybe not jackals but the rest can for sure.
Irish wolfhounds are massive too.
We need a million more to address the wild hog problem.
In humans?
😂 no . Wtf would we need humans.
For those still unaware of the scale, Larger wolf species get to a standing height roughly equal to a Great Dane but with a much bulkier build, in short, they are huge but unlike other Canid of that size they are not slim. They are big, buff and will 100% F you up if they’re mad or hungry
Such wolfs are human equivalents of 6,7 +. Very rare huge individuals. Probably in a place where prey is abundant to allow them to grow so big.

I agree but on the other end i never understood why dogs do that shit, it's such a dumb animal. Cats win the intelligence contest hands down.
People think the dog is going to win, but it isnt. The wolf is running out either to trap it where its most advantageous to it or because it see no reason to fight and get hurt. if it has to fight, there is NO contest whatsoever. A wolf WILL kill ANY breed of dog out there.
They probobly had there dog off leash, so when the poor mut started barking at the wolf there was nothing they could do but pray.
It’s very upsetting, I wish they had attempted to call the dog back to themselves or something. Put it on a leash and walk backwards watching the wolf until they reach safety. Originally the wolf didn’t look like it wanted to attack but the dog was obnoxiously barking at it and following it around it broke my heart to hear it cry out at the end. It was truly scary and luckily they were at a distance where we still had time to make it back. Very surreal seeing this again. I’m so happy the dog is ok
@@swayzy762 LMAO 😂
@@swayzy762 exactly. This is why people need firearms. Would any of you volunteer to rescue the dog with a stick? Be it wooden and blunt or metal and sharp you're humped. Even if you win it wouldn't be without killing or seriously wounding the wolf and the dog is probably already dead, in addition to your own injuries. Or just one deafening bang and the wolf buggers off with it's tail between it's legs posthaste. People forget the world we all live in, our ancestors would be insulted and disgusted to see what they won with over 10,000 years of constant sacrifices.
@@swayzy762 that is the more common perception of dogs, tools to be used and broken. While I didn't specify this, which is my bad, in this case the dog represents anything that you would try to protect and the wolf a predator or other threat that might attack. Did you hear about the recent case in Seattle territory where a guy woke up to find a cougar in his kitchen? We are not helping ourselves by encroaching on predators territory and disarming ourselves at the same time. Plus predators aren't even always the worse. I don't think we have any hyper aggressive prey animals in the US, but cape buffaloes and hippos in Africa kill more then lions, hyenas, venomous snakes, crocodiles, hell everything. Nature is scary and we don't have fangs or claws or armored hides, we only have our brains and tool making abilities.
On your specific comment though, the dog was doing exactly it's job and I never heard the owner even try to call it off. In my mind that creates a moral obligation to protect your proverbial brother in arms, the dog in this case. Thanks for your reply, my original comment was a little off topic.

They used to be bigger and more plentiful in Europe. No wonder we feared them so much. And our fear is what led to their numbers thinning. Whatever wolves were tamed were selectively bred for size, and boom, dogs grew larger, wolves grew smaller (smaller wolves less of a threat, survived longer)

Dane this wolf looks like something on Underworld, wow
Awww that 2nd one was adorable 😍🥰
First one was terrifying
Wolf size typically depends on their diet in the wild. Wolves that typically get huge usually eat a diet that heavily consist of Elk and Bison. The meat in those animals have clyglocengens that builds muscle in the wolf at a much faster rate then typical sized wolves that feed on deer, gazelles, or smaller aquatic forest animals such as fish. clyglocengens in animals is identical to creatine that helps in strength and muscle building in humans by the way.
I'm gonna start eating elk and bison from now on.
@@thynysan but you live in Mexico
@@angelit161 confused "San" with Mexico. 😆 Tell me you're uneducated white without telling me you're uneducated white. 🤣 Where I'm from we can own water buffalo as pets and are allowed to eat them if we want.
Bryan callen?
Do you mean glycogens? I think it’s the protein from those animals that would make it more muscular, not the glycogen stores
That first wolf is jaw dropping. Easily 190 pounds maybe 200+. His length was unbelievable. I believe the record is 235 lbs. For a wolf. The second wolf was at least 130 lbs.
Yeah the 2nd wolf is pretty big but the first one is massive!! Such a huge and beautiful creature
235 pounds...That thing will rip apart a grown man like nothing...
What the fuck, 235lbsss😰😰
Shitt. even the biggest dogs are dwarfs compared to wolves in general
@@goldenwolf8081 yeap, I'm sure these oversized wolves can easily attack if not kill lions.
Some wolves reach 7feet standing on two legs
That first one is a straight up dire wolf. Looked like it was a grizzly size
That dog went from "The fk off my lawn" to "My bad" in a NY min.
The 2nd wolf looks like a animal from Pet Sematary. Died, buried, and just came back to life.....to kill. 😳
Haha, good reference!
Yea hola at yonboi
Probably looking for the car that hit him
Lone wolf most likely wounds from fights with other wolf packs
Yo I just watched that tonight aswell what a coincidence i read this comment
Dog: I'm bad, I'm bad.
Giant Wolf: You're What?
Dog: I'm scared, I'm scared.

Flying my skiplane up a central Idaho canyon 2 winters ago, I saw what I first thought were two heifers standing on the hillside. As I flew by them at 60 mph and 100' off the deck, I got to within about 80 yards, they were wolves like these, very dark or black and just huge. The were looking at something across the valley and never took their eyes off it, the plane didn't spook them at all, it was a bit spooky. For the first time that day I thought of what could happen if the engine quit!
First dog: "How did you get so HUGE?"
First dog while getting eaten: "Oh."
Imagine 2000years ago before humans starting destroying all the forests how large wolves must have grown with plenty of habitat. Could you imagine a PACK of Giant Wolves hunting you?? No wonder they got their place in our myths.
No myth...legend.
Just imagine though. Some of these humans must have been pretty baller to fight those things. We were probably just beating them to death with clubs, rocks and hatchets.
@Backlash1818 Mobile Gaming Channel We probably lived next to them a lot. Especially during the ice age, wolves probably hunted the same exact animals we did. It's theorized that the origins of dogs are wolves that acted as scavengers by eating from the animals that nomadic humans would kill.
I don’t wanna imagine that lol for some reason it’ll change how I look at German shepherds an huskies
@Backlash1818 Mobile Gaming Channel depends, their fear was probably bred to some degree due to wolves more hostile to humans having less time to breed. and wolves are one of the few animals you could probably 1v1 and win if you're relatively fit, just the minor issue of having to shove your arm down their throat !
